I would love to read the VP deity AU (sorry I don't have an angel wing emoji so please accept this in its place)!!
A young man walked in and looked around in some surprise. Presumably, he had not expected Antika’s shrine to be taken care of. Pete didn’t recognize him. Well, it was dark. That was, until he made it up to the altar and lit a few sticks of incense.
Pete almost gasped, but covered his mouth just in time. It was Khun Vegas, cousin to Khun Noo and nephew to Khun Korn. Pete didn’t know he had returned to Krung Thep. He was sure, however, that no one had been taking care of his shrine. It had been several years, to Pete’s knowledge, since Khun Vegas had come back to the City.
“Mae,” Pete was startled out of his reverie as Vegas began to speak. Vegas was prostrated on the ground on all fours, head to his hands which were in a wai in front of him.
“I’m here now, like you asked. The only thing I can think is that you want me to keep an eye on the new brothers.”
sorry it took so long i got kinda burnt out the other day!

European cities still known by exonyms in English
by u/Aofen
Cities still known by exonyms in English tend to fall into a few categories:
Many cities in the Low Countries have traditional English exonyms. Many of these, such as Flushing for Vlissingen or Harlem for Haarlem have fallen out of use, but larger cities still tend to be known by their exonym. Most towns and cities in North Belgium were historically known by French exonyms, but are now currently known by their native Flemish names. The exceptions to this are Bruges, which is fairly large, and Ypres, which is widely known for its significance in WWI
Many major cities across Europe are known in English by their French names (i.e. Cologne, Belgrade, etc.) and a smaller number of cities are known by Italian influenced names (i.e. Vienna, Corfu, or Aleppo).
Some cities in Germany that were historically connected to the UK have English exonyms. The British King was also the monarch of Hanover and Brunswick during the rule of the House of Hanover, and Heligoland was a British colony from 1807 to 1890.
Towns in Greece and the Levant are often known by historical versions of their names, with exonyms sticking around because of the cultural importance of Ancient Greece and the Holy Land in the Anglophone world.
It becomes harder to distinguish between endonyms and exonyms in countries that do not use the Latin Alphabet, but the use of exonyms for cities generally fades as you move away from Europe and the Middle east.
Some prominent cities outside of this map known by exonyms in English include Bangkok for Krung Thep, Havana for La Habana, Batticaloa for Maṭṭakkaḷappu, and Vientiane for Viangchan

Flügel / A Kaleidoscope of Life ~ Moon 2023
Tumblr media
4.5-year awaited Grand Theater return on September 22 (before things) ft. my eyes dead from the unseasonable heat and yet another failed attempt to get my FLYING SAPA REFUND FROM 2020 THAT THEY STILL OWE ME.
This, unexpectedly, turned out to be the hands-down Takarazuka highlight of Tadaima ’23, and that’s… despite a play of extremely questionable content. Tsukigumi—Mugen Musou / Krung Thep—had the honor of being my last live Takarazuka before the shit hit the fan globally, and the troupe is such different vibes I felt like I stepped through a portal (not that Yukigumi isn’t, dear lord, but small theaters are always a little weird vibe-wise). I had a feeling this would be my first and last live top Tsukishiro Kanato, and she did indeed announce taidan days later. We have no shortage of 95th top stars, but, since I was a hardcore Yukigumi fan ten years ago, Reiko is the only one I’ve been closely following since her shinko days. She’s gotten so good, and every time I’ve watched her since the Romance Gekijou stream, I’ve seen in her movements and expressions that she's absolutely watched Komu on repeat in her moments of doubt. It makes my heart sing.
FLÜGEL SPOILERS (can’t believe I’m saying this again, but cw suicide, also nazis 🙄):
If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Gee, you know whose take I’d love on the politics of a divided Germany? TAKARAZUKA’S,” well, maybe this show is for you! It’s the 1980s (although you wouldn’t know it till they bust a hole through the Wall… they really dropped the ball on costuming) and Jonas (Reiko) is a GDR officer who grew up thinking his mother (Shirayuki Sachika) was a nazi after she was arrested in his childhood for war crimes and they were separated on opposite sides of the partitioned country. After we open with a completely historically inaccurate scene from the Russian Afghan war (just SCREAMS Takarazuka, doesn’t it?), Jonas is put in charge of overseeing an East German concert featuring wildly popular West German idol Nadia (Umino Mitsuki), while other GDR officer Helmut (Houzuki An) is tasked with keeping an eye on them/preventing spying or something (idk, this plot doesn’t hold a ton of water to be honest). The general conflict is that Team Reiko is pro-unification, and Team Chinatsu is staunchly anti. Amidst a flurry of various activities that realistically would have gotten Jonas thrown in the gulag 1000 times over—including helping old war buddy?? Amashi Juri escape to West Germany via an underground route operated by Irodori Michiru and Haon Mika—Team Helmut attempts to dampen pro-unification sentiment by plotting a terrorist attack at the concert (in the form of an exploding microphone) and pinning it on a priest (Yumena Rune) and his band of peaceful student protestors. Thanks to Jonas and Luis Wagner (Kazama Yuno), who is Nadia’s manager and also secretly the best spy in the world or something, the mic is retrieved and the plan is thwarted. When Nadia returns to West Germany, she is moved to become a pro-unification activist thanks to the friends she made on the other side, and leads a protest that results in breaking the wall down. Helmut, unable to cope with the defeat of his ideology, takes his own life quite dramatically (so be aware of that). After travel is permitted between east and west, Jonas discovers that his mother (aging with dementia), while employed by the nazis, actually used her position to help Jews escape. Jonas and Nadia don’t fall in love, but they do look off into the sky together in hope and friendship.
I really did not care for this plot, yet somehow I also didn’t absolutely hate watching it. I think there were enough isolated highlights to make the experience worth it:
I! Love! Reiko! And I’m so happy I got to see her as top once! And her voice is fantastic lately!
Reiko and Chinatsu have an unexpectedly compelling chemistry
Chinatsu has an unexpected chemistry with me and my feelings
The final protest scene (set to a dramatic rendition of Ode to Joy) features Chinatsu repeatedly trying to hit Reiko, while Reiko just blocks all her punches and stares straight into her eyes. It’s a lot.
I had similar feelings watching Oda as I did watching Agachin; she wore those 4.5 years loud and proud. +1000 confidence, absolutely ready for her nibante era.
Nice little send off role for Ren Tsukasa, who is ABSOLUTELY BELOVED. People cheered the theater down for her, it was genuinely moving. No one in anything else I saw got that much applause except for maybe Kaiho Naoto.
KALEIDOSCOPE SPOILERS:
This, brainchild of Kurita-sensei making her revue debut, was the revue of the year, and probably the revue of all pandemic era for me. It was fresh, it had a theme, the music slapped, it actually called back a little to Ogita-sensei who I will miss in tkz until the end of time. LET WOMEN MAKE REVUES!!
The premise is a journey through different eras of Tokyo, triggered by the turn of a magic kaleidoscope. Each era’s scene is beautifully designed, and has a little self-contained plot. The transitions are seamless, and I loved the song choices (CITY! POP! CHUUZUME!). Tsukigumi as a whole is vocally outstanding right now, and the impact was awesome. Verbal descriptions dont do it justice! If you’re tired of Fujii/Saitou/Nakamura B throwing all their old scenes into a tumble dyer and pulling them back out in a random order, watch Kaleidoscope, even if you aren’t a fan of Tsukigumi.

Day Twenty-Six, Part One: A Day in Bangkok
I’ve got to admit that, even after nearly four weeks of travel in four different countries, Bangkok could still overwhelm me. There’s only one word for the places we went today: breathtaking. Every time you turn around, there’s a scene that’s even more spectacular than the last. Neither my words nor my photographs will, I’m sure, do the city justice, but it is undoubtedly a place like nowhere else on earth. No wonder Jim Thompson took up residence here.
To begin with, you have to understand that Bangkok isn’t the real name of the city. The real name (and I’m not making it up) is Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. When my guide, Rich, pronounced it, it almost sounded as though he were singing a pop song. Of course, if you only had a four-week vacation, and you said that one of the places you wanted to go was Krung Threp etc. (or, in honor of Yul Brynner, “Etc., etc., etc.”), your four weeks would be up, and you wouldn’t even have left the travel agency yet. So, Bangkok (meaning “The Village of Wild Plums”) is a useful nickname.
Our first stop of the day was the Grand Palace, a place that almost redefines the meaning of both grand and palace.
Tumblr media
Rather than a single building, the Grand Palace is an entire complex of buildings in white, gold, and a host of other colors that manage to be impressive without the “Oh, come on, now,” overdone nature of the White Palace at Chiang Rai.
Tumblr media
Around one portico is a series of 178 scenes, recently restored, from the Ramayana. Here, for example, is an image of the monkey army pledging its loyalty to Rama.
Tumblr media
Demon figures guard certain doorways.
Tumblr media
The quality of the carving and painting is exquisite.
Tumblr media
A large gold stupa stands surrounded by smaller stupas, each of which is impressive by itself.
Tumblr media
Around each corner is another phenomenal building, such as this one
Tumblr media
and this one.
Tumblr media
Golden Naga snakes lead up to gold inlaid doors.
Tumblr media
On one wall, in another scene from the Ramayana, the monkey king, Hanuman, pursues the mermaid, Suvannamacha. (This story would become important again later in the afternoon when we saw it re-enacted at a dance recital.)

Random fact for the day, what you and most people outside Thailand know as the city called Bangkok, actually has an official name that is quite different and longer than name we have come to know.
The official name for Bangkok is Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.
For official government purposes though, they only use the first four word Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.
Do you think you could remember all of that 😂

GN-005 Gundam Virtue
Tumblr media
Origin: Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (Anime)
Timeline: Anno Domini (A.D)
Unit Type: Heavy Artillery Mobile Suit
Pilot(s): Tieria Erde
Developer: Krung Thep
Operator: Celestial Being
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT
Heavily armed, heavily armored and heavily… well, heavy, the Gundam Virtue had the most offensive and defensive firepower among the Gundams of Celestial Being. It was designed to specialize in artillery warfare for fleet battles and assaulting enemy stronghold, with the caveat that it wasn't effective in anti-mobile suit combat, and its mobility was the lowest of the Gundams. Not that it mattered very much, because the defensive strength of Virtue's armor, combined with the ability to generate a 360-degree GN Field barrier around itself that nullifies most physical and beam attacks meant that Virtue didn't have much need for dodging anyway.
It had incredible propulsion capabilities, with it once overpowering the combined thrust of six Tieren Space Types. Like the other Celestial Being Gundams, Virtue had a GN Drive in the center of its body that provided near-limitless energy and generated GN Particles, which also had a unique mass reduction effect, meaning the Virtue weighed only half as much as the similarly bulky Tieren Ground Type.
Due to the insane demand of GN Particles needed to operate its beam weaponry and the GN Field, large capacity GN Condensers were mounted throughout its body to store the excess particles produced by the GN Drive when the Gundam wasn't in operation. These particles were controlled by various GN Cables, meant to facilitate the supply of particles to each part of the Gundam.
Virtue's development was the slowest among the Gundams. It had an alternate design, a physical projectile-based suit named GN-005/PH Gundam Virtue Physical, which was still designed as an artillery unit. In the end, Veda chose the first Virtue, due to it displaying better teamwork with the other Gundams, and discared the Virtue Physical as alternate equipment, due to the difficulties of switching equipment mid-mission.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EQUIPMENT
Virtue's main weapon was the GN Bazooka, a large handheld cannon that fired a high density, high energy beam that could vaporize multiple mobile suits in a single shot; with the caveat being that it had to be charged beforehand. It could switch between "Normal Mode" and "Burst Mode", and when needed, Virtue could equip a second GN Bazooka, effectively dual wielding them.
Despite not being designed for close range combat, it was still given a pair of standard GN Beam Sabers, one stored in each knee.
It also carried a pair of GN Cannons, large twin barreled beam weapons mounted on the left and right sides of its backpack. Weaker than the GN Bazooka, they were still immensely powerful and had the advantage of being able to target enemies in a wider area. Virtue could also fire the GN Cannons and the GN Bazooka at the same time and at the same target for an especially devastating attack.
Just like the other Gundams, the Virtue was given the Trans-Am System, capable of releasing all the compressed GN particles accumulated in the Gundam to enhance all of its capabilities and allow it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time. It also had the same optical camouflage membrane as the other Gundams, and ran on the Veda-linked Operating System.
One particularly unique mechanic the Virtue has is that it can purge its armor to reveal the GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh underneath, a special trump card that could take control of other Gundams within a certain range; an ability designed to stop betrayers of Celestial Being.
Tumblr media
--------------GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY
The Virtue had an extensive history within Celestial Being and as Tieria Erde's signature Gundam. Given to Tieria in 2305 A.D, it took part in the many armed interventions Celestial Being conducted. It would also team up with Exia's pilot, Setsuna, to confront Team Trinity after their armed interventions had strayed too far from Celestial Being's ideals.
The Virtue would fall in Celestial Being's last stand against the UN Forces, where it and Nadleeh were heavily and irreparably damaged. The Virtue would be succeded by the GN-008 Seravee Gundam after Celestial Being made its return.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEGACY
The Virtue was succeded by the previously mentioned Seravee Gundam, and the Nadleeh was succeded by Seravee's partner unit, the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam.
Tumblr media
---------------GN-008 Seravee Gundam-----------------
Tumblr media
--------------GN-009 Seraphim Gundam-----------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Opinion: Its such a chunky boi, I love it. I'm not as big a fan of Nadleeh's design but I do really enjoy the "shedding its armor to reveal a Gundam within the Gundam" gimmick, especially because its really interesting that it was given to Tieria specifically, who reflects the Virtue and Nadleeh's designs in their personality.

Thailand Week Day 3: Nuclear Warfare - Devastation on the Battlefield (2017)
Tumblr media
Continuing on with our Thailand Theme Week, Cave Dweller's own Sidney Davidson introduces us to some first-wave black metal inspired thrash metal from Krung Thep (Bangkok) by the band Nuclear Warfare.
Nuclear Warfare's 2017 album Devastation on the Battlefield is some great traditional thrash, paying tribute to the old guard of Brazil while pushing the envelope past thrash enough to sound fresh. They don't take themselves too seriously either, which is a welcome reprieve from the seriousness of their inspirations. Nuclear Warfare has a new album upcoming, so keep an eye out for that too.

bet! Pete Deity AU
Pete’s grandmother had worshiped many gods when he was a child. A few of them were forbidden, but Yaai had always said,
“What gods a woman worships are between herself and her deities.” Pete had been no more than ten so he’d asked,
“Is that true for boys too?”
She’d laughed at him. Later thought she had been sure to tell him: “Yes it’s true for boys, luk.”
So Pete worshiped many gods that didn’t call Krung Thep home anymore. His favorite was the lady of Death, Antika was her name. Despite the fact that worship of her was discouraged to say the least, her shrine still remained intact in the city of the gods.
He went there more for solitude than anything else because it was always empty. Despite that, Pete swept the main room, lit incense and brought Khun Antika the best mangos from the orchard.
He’d never been bothered while he was at her shrine, which was why he was shocked to hear the large stone door scrape against the ground as it opened. Pete stood up and looked around, trying to find a hiding place that was better than the pillars in the big empty room.
