Loving day
Today is Loving day. It marks the 57th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, the Supreme Court case that struck down Anti-miscegenation laws in the United States.
my parents were married in 1976. 10 years prior, their marriage would have been a crime.
Forgive me, i'm tired. i didn't sleep well.
I could wax poetically about how important to my, and my children's existence, this ruling is.
I could tell you how it enforced many of our rights through the use of the Due Process Clause of the 14th amendment.
I could tell you how obergfell and roe v wade were based on the reasoning of the due process clause of the 14th...
I could tell you how justice thomas, who is himself in an interracial marriage, questioned the validity of that right and reasoning.
It is all interconnected. Race, LBGT+ issues, our rights in general.
If you are LGBT, or poc, both, or whatever, you should know that your rights are being targeted. and it isn't in hiding. It isn't a secret.
You can see it on project2025. You can see it in Thomas's concurrence in Dobbs v Jackson women's health. It is out in the open. easy to find. spelled out.
Today is Loving day. and if you want to celebrate this day with me in the future, be sure you fight and support Obergfell, for our trans friends, for women's rights, and all the other interconnected issues out there.
Also: side note. Mildred Loving never wanted to be in the spotlight. She wanted to live a normal life after her and her husband's name became a rallying cry for civil rights. Her husband, Richard Loving, passed away in 1975 from a car accident. She passed away in 2008. Prior to that, on the 40th anniversary of Loving V. Virginia, Mildred Loving came out of her quiet life and said, "I am still not a political person, but I am proud that Richard's and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and loving, are all about."
She knew it was all connected. Let's honor her memory.

Thinking about the transgender allegories that come with being a halfa. (Needing to hide your identity from the world, the government not respecting your autonomy as a person, only trusting your ghost half identity with very close friends and other members of the community)
Thinking about how Spectra weaponizing Danny's identity against himself, Skulker hunting him down for being what he is, and Walker's rules being as strict as they are and giving nobody any chance to learn them all feels like LGBT+ Community infighting metaphors.
ESPECIALLY Walker, and especially when combined with the genius headcanon that he is Maddie's dead dad because in that situation, Walker is the homophobic/transphobic man who spent his life fighting against these 'strange others' and when discovering that he's not as cishet as he thought, starts policing the community as a moral authority who's strict to an unobtainable degree.
Thinking of Skulktech's existence in general.
Thinking about how despite being told Ember and Skulker are a couple in canon, we never see much (if any) of their chemistry together. In theory, them being a couple could lead to an episode about them hunting Phantom down as a band/team as Ember's trying to engage in Skulker's hunting interest and Skulker's reciprocating by trying to engage in Ember's music interest, but we don't get anything like that.
Thinking about how all the cute couple stuff between them comes from phanon and in the show their relationship is more of an obligation. At best they're mutually bearding (Ember gains scary dog privilege with him to spook off the creepy fans and Skulker gets free seats to the shows of the most popular rockstar in the ghost zone), and at worst they're in an unhappy forced hetero-normative relationship.
Thinking about how Danny's arc going from fighting ghosts to working with them and deciding to be the bridge between the human world and the ghost world could be an allegory for him learning to love himself for what he is.
Thinking about how those transgender allegories also apply to Vlad on the grounds he himself is one.
Thinking about how we never even see or hear about Vlad's biological family outside of an off-mention about a sister he might not even have. "If anyone asks, you're my sister's cat".
Thinking about how Vlad and Danny are thematic opposites despite being the (former) only two of their kind, how Vlad has everything but the family he wants so badly and how we're proven time and time again that when the chips are down and when it comes to it, Jack and Maddie always love and accept Danny and his ghost half.
Thinking... Did Vlad get disowned from his family for being what he is?
Also with all of these thoughts, Badger Cereal in a nutshell is 'trans teenager whose only experience with lgbt communities is toxic cesspools filled with infighting tries to cancel his pseudo-uncle/godfather on twitter because "he used anti-lbgt slurs" (to describe himself) and instead of being mature, Vlad retorts with "My transsexual whore ass was with both of your parents back in college, I'd recommend getting a DNA test before throwing stones Little Badger"🫶. Because he himself is also pretty toxic and petty.'

Sorry, i know these few reblogs dont go in this blog, but its my country and my life and ive been feeling like shit since yesterday.
Fascism just won in my country.
A man who plans to privatize public institutions, wants to dollarize our economy, legalize fire arms and organ trade, wants to get rid of so many rights we fought so hard for, LBGT rights, abortion, sex education. He wants to deny the vote to immigrant people.
He admires Trump and Thatcher, he denies the dictatorship that disappeared over 30,000 people and stole hundres of children from their parents hands. The dictatorship that kidnapped, killed, raped, tortured thousands and thousands of people. His vice-president is the daughter of one of the worst military men in that dictatorship.
The people voting him claim that he "won't be able to anything". He has actively said he wants to get rid of public education and public health, and they say "he never said that", or "he was taken out of context". These people lack memory, because he very much can, as so many have before. And as so many have before, we're going to have to fight for those rights again, win them all over again, go out every day to mobilize and scream and shout and cry and fight and stick together.
I've been telling myself since yesterday. We did this before, we did this in 2016, we did this in the 90s, we did this in 1976. I look at my latinamerican siblings and how they survived their own battles and I repeat to myself Brasil survived, Chile survived, Bolivia survived. We survived and will survive, and we will fight to our very last breath. But man, is it tiring to repeat this.
I know this blog is for fandom and silly drawings, but I felt the need to speak about it, I just can't be quiet about it when this is gonna set us back so many years.

Zoomer Huey, I tend to see people saying why Gen z don’t have sex much.
Holy
Fucking
Shits
These journalists surprisedly have WORSE self awareness than there boomer relatives
Here a hint https://x.com/swannmarcus89/status/1762582001507323991?s=46
And gender dynamics are…nuked in the fields they are surveying. Women and girls are told that all men are predators and misandry is left unchecked
Also, why Hollywood act surprised about the sex abuse?
We all heard about the casting coach, and how suspiciously people from working class backgrounds like Micheal Jackson (yes his dad had his music connections. But essentially mj was a slave and was arguably was the first black child star unless I’m missing someone) and Walt Disney (though not as bad) are painted as monsters while the actual monsters are protected for decades
I mean look at Judy Garland, she was a sweet person and she did help the LBGT in Hollywood and supported the civil rights movement
But her “crazy” behavior makes more sense because she was sexually abused at a extremely young age
And she not the only one, Shirley Temple, the boy who played at the first LA Dennis the Manis
Oh and the Peter Pan actor (a lot of people leave out the part where ALL of Hollywood basically says he can choke and die because he was “too” Disney)
But sorry about the Gen stuff, but the false rape accusations, maybe if you guys didn’t view men (especially white ones) the same way Nazis viewed the Jews while saying all the working class men were Weinstein.
My Gen would have more sex
Tumblr media
Entertainment industry has been like that since the beginning of forever, probably less so when women weren't allowed to participate but still a thing I'm sure.
As for Judy Garland it was nice to see people come out swinging in her defense when someone tried to start shit over well
She was not in control of her carer, saying no was not an option for her with this, but dumbasses that can only think in terms of today's standards never think about that.
Jay North (Dennis the Menace) did ok, so did Shirley Temple, plenty of others not so much, more recently we can look at Drew Barrymore and RDJ who both had fairly public meltdowns and problems.
Drew was ruined since her first film was ET and Spielberg takes care of the kids on set, going beyond the legal requirements.
Bobby Driscol was the Peter Pan VA top of his Wiki article.
Robert "Bobby" Cletus Driscoll (March 3, 1937 – c. March 30, 1968) was an American actor who performed on film and television from 1943 to 1960. He starred in some of the Walt Disney Studios' best-known live-action pictures of that period: Song of the South (1946), So Dear to My Heart (1949), and Treasure Island (1950), as well as RKO's The Window (1949). He served as the animation model and provided the voice for the title role in Peter Pan (1953). He received an Academy Juvenile Award for outstanding performances in So Dear to My Heart and The Window.
He just fell into the child actor pit, where he wasn't "cute" anymore couldn't get gigs and couldn't adjust to not being in the spotlight, the way he went and nobody knowing is awful to think about still.
Jackie Coogan, on the other hand was a different story.
Tumblr media
His parents sucked and as a result there's a series of laws named after him California's Coogan Law all about protecting the earnings of child actors from their parents. % goes into a trust iirc.
He ended up OK in the end though
Tumblr media
The false accusation thing, #me too hurt women because #believe women was taken advantage of to such a degree that even this coming out to light
Tumblr media
has still probably not cleared up for the trooper, and men are opting to not mentor women because of not wanting to risk a false accusation, everyone screams about how rare they are, to which I say so what, why should they assume the risk even if it's minor
Former VP Mike Pence came out and said he won't be alone with a woman that's not his wife in order to ensure that there is no possibility of someone making a claim of impropriety.
And he got this response
Why is anyone going to put their neck on the line when something like what he said is going to get this kind of response.
Maybe instead of crying about how rare false accusations are they should focus on shaming the people making them and coming up with solutions to keep them from happening.
You know instead of blaming the victims of the false accusations.
All this and so much more going on that isn't in this ask goes to the I don't blame people for not having as much sex, it's actually kinda nice too, fewer std's this way.
I went on a couple tangents, hope that's ok

So, someone tried to assasinate Trump.
Pity they missed.
I KNOW its wicked to wish people harm but... Some people I dont think you would be sad to see drop dead. Trump, Putin, people who hurt young woman and children. The isarealis! The ones murdering, slaughtering children, bombing homes, raping prisoners, all while LAUGHING and smiling about like its a big game.
At the very least strip them of power so they cant hurt anyone anmore, which I though they were doing, his name dirt, losing money, being cut of tv appearences, losing buisiness... AND yet they allowed him to seriously try for a second candecy?
Im only sorry for the victims who were in the area. Supporters of him or not. I wish they hadent got killed.
Some of the plans Trump has for America include:
Ending gay marriage.
Ban-remove trans troops from the military.
Ban trans healthcare for kids
Outlaw Pornography
Imprison people who create pornogaphy(DEMONIZING sex workers)
Oh and btw the asshole and his platfrom "project 2025" defines transgender ideology as porno, so, YEAH, gunning to get any "dirty trannies" into prioson
National abortion ban
Abortion medication ban, restrict ivf acess, limit acess to conctraception in an effort to end recreational sex( SO your sex life is now the govs buisiness, and if you dont want a baby, there taking away you right to engage in safe sex)
End no fault divorce
Public health clinics must EMPHASISE the important of STRAIGHT marriage
Repeal any programs that support single mothers or LBGT parents
As per the bible the only legally recognized families are those of a husbad wife and BIOLIGICAL children(so I guess adopted dont count)
Limit social media interaction for children via parental and govermental controlls. They claim its cuz its for there own good, but its so they can controll what they see. They dont want confused kids looking up infromation about feeling trans, maybe gay, non binary, whatever, or even Gaza and progessive issues via the net. ITS CENSORSHIP and there thinking "Our kids wont be dirty lil homos and freaks if they cant SEE these sites"
End free school lunches
Infuse public education with christanity
Band education on race gender and slavery
AND thats just some of it.
....TRUMP is a bigoted, STUPID, racist, intolerant, SACK of shit. Hes like one of those old time polictions in the old days where segagration still existed and a woman was still property of her husband. And seems to want America just to be that way again. HOW much misery did he cause the last time he was president?
I dont care who defends him, he is a terrible human being with terrible, EVIL policies. And I wont be convinced otherwise, EVER.
There are some people SO awful, the world truly doesent need them
Voters, please, do your best! I live in England, but I would, I would WEEP, if these policies came into effect in the USA. I thought MOST of the world would.

I Can See You Chapter 5: Family Support
Tumblr media
Ture by Spandau Ballet enters Colin's ears when his navy blue eyes see her for the first time in years.
The only word he could use to describe Penelope Featherington is the Greek Goddess Venus.
Gah, Colin misses her red curls. Yet her eyes still alternate like the meditation ocean, with multiple shades of blue, constantly changing depending on her mood.
According to his two eldest brothers, Anothy and Benidenct, she has been Eloise's best friend since high school, but his sister warned everyone in the family that he isn't allowed to meet her.
Colin wasn't sure why they obliged his sister's request until the day after her 18th birthday.
He remembers it being a cold November morning when Eloise asked everyone to be present at our mother's dining room table. She had an important announcement to make.
All fifteen members of their extended family were sitting on the longest family heirloom, with our mother at the right end of the table.
She always had us eat breakfast at her home before attending Sunday Mass as a family.
It was the one request our mother had for her family, and everyone knew they couldn't miss it unless an emergency occurred.
Colin can still picture Eloise fidgeting in her seat in front of him.
His second youngest sister couldn't stay still until Daphan had enough and shouted, "For goodness sake, Eloise, just tell us what you need to say!" in frustration.
Simon was next to her with their son Auggie Hastings on his lap. He was feeding his first son while trying to get him to eat his breakfast.
Everyone at the table stopped what they were doing to pay attention to their outspoken sister.
"Alright!" Elooise began, "I just don't know how to start this conversation."
Benedict teases Eloise by asking his sister, "Does this have to do with your crush on Pen-el-ope?" emphasizing her best friend's name in a sing-a-long ton.
A blush crosses her face from the question, while Daphne, Francesca, Hyacinth, and Kate "aww" in adoration at their baby sister's reaction.
Eloise immediately looked down at her table setting before glazing at their mother while confessing, "I am bisexual."
Simon chuckled at her confession, but he recovered by coughing as his wife Daphne gave him a deadly glare.
Everyone then turned their heads away from Eloise and waited for their mother's reaction to her daughter's announcement.
Anyone who comes from a catholic family knows that coming out is like being exiled.
Some parents kick out their children.
Others shun them.
And then some push said feelings aside because it is a sin in our religion and accept their faith rather than accepting themselves.
It is why so many people from the LBGT community despise the Roman Catholic community. They do not understand how difficult it is to come out without accepting the aftermath of their confession.
It is harder to decipher when you are taught and raised to believe that some of your beliefs are sinful in the eyes of the Lord.
Many people would say, "We are a disappointed bunch of homophobics." but not all of us feel this way.
There is a small population of Catholics who support those who dare to come out.
After hearing Eloise's confession, our mother, Violet, smiled at Eloise with pride from coming out to them and stated, "I wish I could protect you from the hate people will send your way, my darling. However, you do not need to worry. We will be there for you."
"Exactly," Anthony pipes in, " We, the Bridgetons, support all types of love. Our mother raised us to accept and respect others. We are to embrace ourselves. For every human is unique."
Daphane was next to support our sister, "Our home is always opening, Eloise.". Simon nodded in agreement with his wife.
Eloise sighed with relief as everyone took turns supporting her.
As for Colin, he would do anything for his siblings to find their happiness.
Therefore, Colin knew he couldn't get in between his sister's feelings for her best friend.
He isn't sure if they are together or not. But he is guessing that Eloise hasn't told Pen about her feelings.
Nevertheless, Colin Bridgerton wasn't blind.
Penelope Featherington is gorgeous.
And-- that dam black dress!
It enhances all of her curves perfectly, which causes him to want to break his promise to his sister and see her as more than a forbidden.
To prevent himself from being near Penelope Featherington, Colin decided to walk out the door with one text message,
10:30 pm Eloise. Hey sis! I am here. I will be waiting outside next to our Uber. Please come quickly. Thanks, Colin
The thirty-three-year-old walks out the club's door with hopes and doubts of keeping his distance from her.
Yet, he would never admit it to anyone.
Colin Bridgerton can see Penelope Featherington.

Hey so I have a question and would like a different perspective. I'm part of the lbgt+ community but I am not trans. I do my best to listen to those in the community and hopefully educate others when an opportunity presents itself.
Well I'm not sure how this conversation started I kinda walked halfway in it but my mother and grandmother were talking about this friend of one of my aunts. This friend's child transitioned from female to male, and their mom was accepting of the transition but having a hard time accepting the long-term adjustment. And my mom said, mourn the loss of your daughter and the history you had then embrace your son and the new memories to be made.
Now I do not claim to know nor speak for all trans views and I understand you're not a monolith and many have different views but this seems to be a more agreed census that this notion is extremely transphobic and hurtful at least that's what I gathered when entering trans spaces. I tried to explain that to my mother since the person in question is not dead, they're more alive than they''ve ever been. The parents should be happy and accepting isn't that what every parent should want? For their child to be happy and true to themselves.
My mother then argued that it is sad and the parent is losing their child and history and future they planned for their kid. And that's another thing! Parents put needless expectations on kids and then get disappointed and angry when that kid isn't a pre-programmed mini-me but an individual with autonomy and different wants and desires.
My mother said too damn bad the trans person is entitled to their feelings and should be validated but so should the parents and get over it. I'm hoping to be in the mental health field and I know a lot of trans people struggle getting the support they need.
So my question is how should I go about this when I very likely do come across this situation in the future? How do I support my trans clients in their journey and acknowledge the hurt or if a parent of a trans person is my client and is expressing these feelings in therapy but internally I know this is extremely hurtful and bigoted to said kid?
Any advice would be great so I can be an effective ally. Us sexual and gender minorities within the sexual and gender minority club have to stick together. \(^_^)/
I hate that fucking reasoning.
Your child is not dead. They never were, and to mourn someone who was never there is putting more emphasis on what your misconceptions of your child than the living human being in front of you. It's insulting, trans men are not your dead daughters, trans women are not your dead sons.
We are alive. We've always been here, you just didn't know it because we needed to find that out for ourselves first. The future that you thought of, the history that's there, that was with your child, not your daughter or son, your child. To act like that's now gone is to act like that child is never coming back.
I appreciate that you wanted more opinions and did your research. It's great to see that you want to help, but more importantly to do it whilst educated.

A gay Republican politician in Colorado was apparently shocked by a recent email sent out by state party head Dave Williams, which called LGBTQ+ people “evil” and “woke creeps,” Westword reports. Now the gay conservative is rejecting any endorsements from the state GOP following this incident.
Valdamar Archuleta, president of LGBTQ+ conservative group Log Cabin Republicans of Colorado and current candidate for the state’s First Congressional District, said, “It’s alienating a large group of people within the party. Not just LGBT people, but our friends, our allies, our families. This was a massive mistake. We need to work on unifying the party and growing the party, not isolating people with divisive messages like this.”
Archuleta said on X how he rejects the Colorado GOP endorsement following this email and posted a three-minute long video where he called the state GOP email “troubling” and said he has asked to be removed from their list of endorsees.
Tumblr media
Archuleta himself, though, has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. He previously blamed LGBTQ+ individuals for the Club Q shooting and said that queer people are “groomers” – or child sex abusers – a negative stereotype that has been used to justify hatred and discrimination.
“If you’re really upset about being called a #groomer maybe you should step back and reevaluate your activity around children,” Archuleta wrote on Facebook just a week after the mass shooting. “At the very least for appearances sake.”
“The biggest threat to increasing violence towards the LGBT community are LBGT Activists and Organizations who make LGBT people look insane, unreasonable, and menacing,” he wrote several weeks later. “We will face more hate in the future directly due to these activists and organizations.”
Now, though, he’s saying that the state GOP went too far.
“That email was blatantly hateful,” he says now. “There’s really no condoning it in any way. We need new leadership, and we need to start looking for new leadership now.”
While Archuleta is shocked by the email – which had the subject “God Hates Pride” – this isn’t even the first time that the state party used this kind of rhetoric. Williams sent out a similar email last year that characterized the community as demons and degenerates, a word associated with the Third Reich. In 2020, he tried to push for a bill that would ban marriage equality in the state.
“We make no apologies for saying God hates Pride or Pride flags, as it’s an agenda that harms children and undermines parental authority,” Williams said.
“Messages of hate, bigotry, and government control over people’s lives are not Republican or Christian,” Republican Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon said.
“Colorado Republicans who care about public safety, property taxes, reducing homelessness, and supporting the constitution have kids, grandkids, friends, neighbors, or they themselves are part of the LGBTQ+ community. How do messages of hate serve them and our communities?”
Laydon concludes, “If you want to support kids, quit telling them that they’re worthless for how God created them and encouraging them to kill themselves. Thanks, Dave Williams, for the reminder to actually study God’s incredible love for all people and for Coloradans, especially Republicans, to get huge Pride flags.”
The email continues by parroting the infamous “groomer” line, alleging that queer people want to hurt children. This has been widely debunked.
Tumblr media
It concludes by sharing a video with a thumbnail saying “God Hates Flags” – a name riffing on the infamous Westboro Baptist Church slogan “God Hates Fags.” The video consists of Pastor Mark Driscoll saying that the pride flag represents “the demonic realm” and “human indecency.”
It is unknown what demonic realm he is referring to.
The party doubled down on social media, making a post on X where they call for all Pride flags to be burned.
Tumblr media
They have also retweeted several other posts that call the LGBTQ+ community abominations and demonic.
The state GOP made headlines last month after telling constituents to take their kids out of public schools lest they be turned transgender.
The X account shared several posts from hate influencer Chaya Raichik, who goes by “Libs of TikTok” online. Her posts have resulted in death threats sent to LGBTQ+ individuals and bomb threats sent to schools across the country.

An issue that I’ve never seen any direct discussion of—how does the American state deal with cases of religious conflict between minors and their guardians? For instance, if a child of strict Christian parents decides to become a Muslim. Is there any precedent for a state intervention in the child’s favor to try to ensure them some sort of exercise of their religion?
My impression is that there is simply no guarantee of freedom of religion for a minor (or rather, freedom of religion is interpreted as supporting the guardian here against the state), allowing guardians to discipline their minors as they see fit, and that any state intervention in the minor’s favor would be limited to if the guardians met the normal standards of child abuse and no sooner.
Cases related to this are talked about all the time, especially with LBGT minors, but I’ve never seen one framed as a freedom of religion issue. Which is pretty bizarre to me.
Do you have any knowledge of any relevant precedent or practice here?
There was actually a case about this recently that did Not involve LGBTQ topics, just a horny teen boy getting it on with his girlfriend in the high school parking lot.
I have an uncomfortable suspicion that historically, USA case law may have been more supportive of minors who converted to Christianity than other religions, but this is a really interesting question. @barren-and-trivial-words or anyone else who has topical expertise know anything about this?

SIGN THIS PETITION TO HELP STOP THE KOSA ACT.
Please sign the petition! This act is clearly aimed at members of the LGBTQIA+ community and they are trying to, once again, prevent children from having access to a harmless community.
The worst part is that this act was made by republicans, and it specifically targets LBGT and other websites that could contain such content, ao3, tumblr, tiktok, wattpad, etc, could all be taken down for having said content.
You would have to use your government id to be able to use the internet, not only that but your parents would have complete access to everything you’re viewing on the internet. THERE WOULD NO LONGER BE LGBTQ+ SAFE SPACES
It’s promoted as an act that will protect kids online by keeping them from any inappropriate content, but in reality is a loophole that will allow censorship online and even lets them shut down sites.
This bill/act is backed by both democrats and republicans so there’s a HIGH CHANCE That it’ll be passed

In light of your post on the lack of value for education in the US (& to an extent, also so for Canada), might such be apparent especially in such cultures as the ghetto & redneck cultures, which both devalue cultivation & are rife with infighting while showing more than a passing similarity to each other (while possibly sharing a common lineage along with possibly descending from each other)?
As someone who worked in education in the "ghetto" they culturally showed a much higher appreciation for education than what I witnessed in middle class white people. They certainly had frustrations with the education system, however, that frustration was more towards the systemic under funding of...everything in their area. Not really towards the teachers or the curriculum. Also, parents who are in poverty in general are likely working overtime or two jobs at a time. They often appreciate education, but can't help out their children with school... they don't have the time or the money (or the education themselves... it's a cycle!).
Whereas, for middle class white people, who lean far more conservative, have another set of objections towards education. I completely understand the motivations of the upper middle class who send their children to private schools... the devaluing (and eventual under funding) of public education helps their privately educated kids get a leg up while pushing down families trying to gain economic mobility. They have outright stated this several times.
However, I don't entirely understand the white middle class to lower middle class aggression towards educators. They might not have a motivation beyond fears of "socialism" or "queering children" or "CRT." Which, to be fair, the equality of LBGT people and PoC do undermine the patriarchal white supremacy in which they actively benefit from. So perhaps those fears aren't entirely unjustified.

Phantom Carols
For the @jatp-adventevent prompt: Queer Day
Day Seventeen: Done We Now Our Gay Apparel <-AO3!
Julie comes to him as a teen and tells Ray that she thinks she likes girls and boys. Ray pulls her into a hug, tells her he loves her, is proud of her, and he’ll happy welcome anyone she brings home… when she’s old enough to date. She rolls her eyes and whines, but the small bitten off smile tells him all he needs to know as she skips off, presumably to tell Rose.
Ray breathes out a breath, running his palm down over his face and then grins. He loves that Julie is able to tell him this kind of stuff, and that the world is a kinder, though not perfect place for queer people now. He remembers the hatred from his college years towards his LBGT peers, and the subtle undercurrent of derision when both he and Rose tried a few things out, with her liking everyone, and Ray falling more on the ‘heteroflexible’ side of things, but happy enough to have a bit of fun if the opportunity arose.
When Julie is old enough to date, she and Flynn decide to go together with their dates, which Rose thinks is adorable, and Ray feels like it will make things way less tense for the girls. Julie is going with some guy from the lacrosse team. “Who’s the lucky guy Flynn?” he had asked as the girls got ready.
“Girl, actually,” Flynn replied. “I’m a lesbian.” She finished applying her eyeliner, then turned to look at Ray. “It’s Carrie, by the way.”
“Well then, good job. You’re both lucky girls.”
Flynn scrunched in on herself at that, and then bit her bottom lip. “I… I don’t identify as a girl actually. I’m non-binary, I’m using they/them pronouns now. Is that okay?”
Ray gathers her into a hug at that, assuring her-them-that it is, and promises to try and remember and be respectful. He’s never met anyone who identifies as non-binary, but for Flynn, who is practically a second daughter to him, he’s more than willing to learn.
A year later, Julie brings home her bandmates. Ray likes those boys, they’re sweet and respectful, and the music they make is pretty darn good. Rose has a smile for each of them as they come in the house, and she always has a tray of snacks at the ready for them. Today though, she’s out shopping, so Ray throws something together to bring out. Julie is squat between Luke and Reggie on the couch, the three of them hunched over a notebook.
But Alex is sitting on the armchair, another boy practically in his lap, playing with his hair. “Oh hey Mr. M!” he says with a wave. “This is my boyfriend Willie.”
“Yo!” Willie says with a jaunty wave.
“Very nice to meet you Willie,” Ray replies. “You’re welcome any time.” He turns to Julie then. “Make sure to get your homework done amidst all the song writing please, and dinner tonight is lasagne if anyone wants to stay.”
He leaves the garage then, but just after he clears the door, he hears Julie say. “I told you he wouldn’t care. He’s not like your parents.”
“I know, but he’s still a dad,” Alex replies. “He just… happens to be a good one.”
Ray has to smile at that, and by the time the band meets up again, there’s a Pride flag in the window and Alex beams when he sees it, nodding at Ray when he greets him.
Luke actually comes out to Rose, and Ray just happens to be there. He approaches shyly, asking her if she thinks Julie would say yes to a movie date if he asked. Rose beams and says yes, but he’d be better off asking Julie herself.
“And you don’t mind that I’m…” he trails off, but moves his cut off so the scars are visible.
“No,” Ray says firmly. “If Julie knows and doesn’t care, then why should we?”
“She knows,” Luke says. “And that I’m pan, and she likes me just the same. She’s pretty accepting.”
“Well I’m pansexual too, so she grew up knowing that who you are attracted to doesn’t mean squat as long as you’re a good person,” Rose replied, and Luke offers her a fist bump at that. Ray grins, and thanks whatever force sent these boys to Julie, and to them. He knows not every parent would be as cool with it, and from the whispers he's heard, some of these boys parents are not.
Reggie is the last one to come out, and it’s in a weird, roundabout way. Julie and Luke march into the house, Reggie in tow and tell Ray that they’re all dating now.
“O…kay, you want to give me more details there mija?”
“I’m bisexual,” Reggie says, his eyes downcast. “I… I kind of just figured it out recently.” He lights up though when Ray grips his shoulder, offering him a warm smile. Ray has a fondness for Reggie, and any chance to make his sunshiney self come out, he takes.
“We all like each other, so why not all date?” Luke supplies.
“Love triangles are stupid, especially when polyamory is a easy solution,” Julie finishes.
Ray and Rose exchange glances, but re-assert that they love them all, and whatever they need, all they have to do is ask. There’s a lot of hugging and tears, but Ray can see those boys adore Julie and each other, so what more can he ask? Life will be hard enough on them, he doesn't need to add to it just because he doesn't understand it yet.
He and Rose spend a lot of time researching after that, but they always let their kids... all their kids know that they are loved, accepted, and safe in their home. If the guys spend more and more time there after that, well Rose just starts buying more snacks, and Ray offers as many dad hugs as they need.
That holiday season, Ray puts up a small tree in the garage. The kids all spend most of their time there anyways. And knowing the varying levels of acceptance from their respective families, bedecks the tree in as many queer themed ornaments as possible. It's a rainbow mish-mash of flags and hearts, but it's theirs. Everyone loves it, and when he brings snacks out this time, he catches the conversation as they take it in.
“Man are there any actually straight people close to us?” Alex comments wryly.
“Tia Victoria?” Luke offers.
“She’s aro-ace actually,” Willie replies. “She told me herself when I came out as demi.”
“Carlos?” Luke proposes.
“Carlos is twelve,” Julie says and Ray can almost hear the eye roll. “He's still figuring himself out.”
“You dad,” Reggie replied.
“You rang?” Ray says as he comes in, setting down the tray of hot cocoa and cookies.
“We’re just saying you might be the only straight person we know,” Julie says as she thanks him for the treats.
“Who said I was straight?” Ray replies with a wink, walking out, whistling Jingle Bells, and giggling to himself at the gobsmacked teenagers he left behind.

A school-board meeting in Dearborn, Mich. was shut down earlier this week by hundreds of protesters opposing the circulation of LGBTQ books across the city’s public-school system.
Viral videos recorded by a Detroit Free Press reporter circulated on Twitter showing pandemonium breaking out at the meeting Monday night. Many of the protesters carried signs in English and Arabic: “Keep Your Dirty Books in the Closet,” “Stop Grooming Our Kids,” and “Homosexuality Big Sin,” some read.
Tensions boiled over when Roxanne McDonald, chair of the school board, limited attendee speaking time to three minutes. The proceedings were then halted due to fears that the growing crowd violated the fire code. Shouts of “Vote them out!” broke out.
Dearborn and neighboring Dearborn Heights are overwhelmingly Muslim communities just outside of Detroit. The town elected its first Arab-American mayor in 2021 on the back of the community’s support. Rashida Tlaib’s congressional district, Michigan’s 13th, abuts the area, too.
One of the community’s prominent religious leaders, Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini urged followers to attend the school-board meeting during his Friday sermon. “Some of those books are completely inappropriate for our children to read,” Al-Qazwini said. “Some of those books promote pornography. Some of them promote homosexuality. We don’t need this.”
“What happened tonight at the school board meeting in Dearborn is very embarrassing and is totally rejected,” Osama Siblani, publisher of the Dearborn-based Arab American News and a longtime community leader, wrote in a Facebook post.
Among the book titles temporarily restricted include All Boys Aren’t Blue, The Lovely Bones, Flamer, Push, as well as Red, White & Royal Blue. Many, though not all of the books, deal with sexuality, gender, and sexual violence. Another one under review, This Book is Gay, prompted backlash because of “the explicit nature of the book alone, and not the LGBTQ+ themes,” The Arab American News reported.
The Dearborn incident is reminiscent of similar British Muslim protests against same-sex education. Weeks of protests wracked Birmingham when local schools sought to teach “LBGT-inclusive content” to young students. At one point, LGBT campaigners and their children were pelted with eggs by protesters, and about half the school’s students were voluntarily withdrawn from classes by parents.

Just saw Strange World and y'all
There's a biracial LBGT character whose crush ISNT just swept under the rug. Like his parents tease him about it, his friends tease him, his grandfather doesn't bat an eye and just launches into how to impress a partner
It's just
Healing to my very soul
Also the plot and major twist? As well as the critter/landscape designs?
I'm in love
I went in with mixed expectations due to the negativity surrounding it and turns out the reviews were mostly just bigoted pricks mad that their heteronormativity was challenged
I usually dont like hyping up a move from the House of Mouse but seriously. Go watch it.
Plus, as an environmentalist, I adore the bigger message
