Fans who dunk on kataang as a ship because Katara was written flatly post OG series really grind my gears. As if her marrying Aang and having a family with him was the root cause of the LoK writers sidelining her when her peers still got to be way more invloved in the story.
I will be the first to admit that Katara's initial goals and characterization got quite lost post OG series. In a way, she was only reduced to a healer and her accomplishments outside of mothering children with Aang and banning bloodbending are not shared with the audience. For the first season of LoK, I think this is fine. This is not Katara's story anymore and her speech to Korra at the beginning of the season is her passing the torch to the next Avatar to have her own adventures. Katara at that point is basically a nice cameo. We're not supposed to think that this sliver of her life which Korra sees is all that's important about her.
This does not hold water in future seasons when it's revealed that Toph and Zuko are still alive and both have more active roles in the plot, whereas Katara did not have an active role in plot lines she should have been more involved with (water tribe civil war, for example). To some fans, this reduces the little that we do see of Katara's character in LoK to only being those parts, rather than just pieces of a more realized elder from the perspective of someone younger (Korra) who doesn't know her whole story.
The way that people blame her marrying Aang on the way her overall character was handled is so baffling to me. Do these fans honestly think she would have escaped that fate for certain if she had married Zuko or someone else, or stayed single?

I went back to the original cover I had made years ago and used my iPad for a new and improved version, and I honestly am much more proud of this one. Also an updated version of the title.
And I started a separate ig for this fan fiction project: @thejourneyofwanofficial for more future updates! It is a written story, but will feature some illustrations.
So if you’ve been interested in the idea of a project/show/movie/comic/book/etc about Wan’s life after Harmonic Convergence, feel free to like, follow, reblog, and share!

A closer look at Nukilik’s official design in the comic! (Someone stole all the pretty privilege on Team Avatar) Nukilik is our newest member of Team Avatar, and is the youngest captain among Shui’s fleet. An expert in seafaring and spear combat, he proves to be a strong and capable leader without the need for bending.
(Plus, he is slaying with that white eyeliner)
To learn more about Nukilik, you can find is info on our Team Avatar page, which is in our pinned post on our page!
Disclaimer: We are not affiliated with the original creators or the series. This is a project made by fans for fans. All of this artwork is made by volunteers. Do not steal, repost, or claim as your own. All of our work is made specifically for our story, and isn’t canon unless stated otherwise. Our story follows the Avatar after Wan.

is anyone going to tell the kat@angers that it's not feminist activism to argue Katara's arc in LOK is fine on the grounds that "some women want to be homemakers and that's okay!!"
Like you're not helping real women that way. In fact, most antis for the cannon ship ARE women. Many are homemakers themselves.
Katara is not a real woman. She is a fictional woman written by men.
Can the sensibilities and wishes of a girl change by the time she is a adult? Yes!
But as this is a textual character who, as per the text, rejects the societal structure of her fictional world (which mirrors our own) that women are and can only ever be docile homemakers (i.e. I don't want to heal, I want to fight; I will never turn my back on people who need me; let's start a prison riot; let's engage in vigilante ecoterrorism; let's pitch an absolute fit because the boys are not pulling their fair weight in the homemaking; let's confront my mother's killer at the absolute rejection and condemnation of the male figures whom I am to respect; etc) it is perfectly reasonable to argue that this end was not a natural course for her character.
Fictional characters are not real people. This means that they do not change their mind off screen. That is not an acceptable argument. That is called a "plot hole", which is a nonsensical change made at the convenience and contrivance of the writer(s), who in this case are men exhibited to not care for women or girls all that much. It is within THEIR character to write this way.
Regardless of who, if anyone, Katara ended up with, Katara tolerating disrespect, neglect, abuse of her children, giving up all of her former aspirations to live in the shadow of men, and dying as a mere footnote in history (and being alright with it!!) is not surprising given the absolute vitriol Bryke has shown toward female fans of their "creation". It was supposed to be a "boy" show. It was always supposed to be a "boy" show. The creators of Supernatural and Game of Thrones did the same thing. ATLA just did it first.
Arguing "not all women" is not activism in the face of what is really happening in this discourse. Sending death threats to real, actual women with feelings in defense of a fake pretend woman's fake pretend autonomy is performative activism, and worse, hypocritical.
Not all women agree with you. Not all women feel represented and find the outcome of Katara's story satisfactory. If y'all care about feminism and respecting women's choices so much, lay off the real life women you're so fond of harassing. Our views and opinions, while opposing your own, don't affect you.

ways that hero society hurts pro heroes headcanons
Tumblr media
does anyone wanna hear the shit i think that heroes go through and why i feel they’re victims? no? ok
firstly i headcanon hero society as having extremely fucked up beauty standards where heroes face the same sort of scrutiny for their bodies as celebrities do in our world, like if a female hero is too muscular there will be men complaining that she looks like a guy and if a male hero isn’t muscular enough he’s lazy etc
i bet you anything that it was not only the fact that media interferes with hero work that Aizawa chose to stay out of the spotlight i bet in some subconscious way he was afraid of the intense scrutiny that comes with being a hero
not only that but heteromorphic people are always chastised and rarely do well in hero ranking if they don’t appear attractive or fit within the public’s view of heroes, i’m thinking of gang orca for example who is ranked number 1 in looks the most like a villain like for someone who fights villains for a living and has probably been harmed by them first hand that’s bound to take some psychological toll. that moment always bothered me and i think it’s really unfair for heroes to be categorised like that when they’re dedicating their lives to try to be useful. you just know that people with quirks like shoji will find it harder to succeed no matter how great or compassionate a hero he is.
i know it’s common in fan fiction for Hawks to have to hide aspects of his quirk that are unappealing but let’s think about that with other heroes as well like Mirko, i imagine she’s grown up with agents and superiors telling her it’s annoying when her foot won’t stop thumping or weird how she eats carrots or Mic being told to keep it down constantly-i’m sure there are loads of heroes who are made to be ashamed of aspects of who they are and have to hide them in order to sell an image and be more profitable and likeable.
i also imagine that they’re all terrified of aging and that perpetual fear of losing their spotlight is probably a huge part of their psyche as from a young age they feel they have limited time to be successful like when hawks is talking about his prime calm tf down your life has barely started.
heroes are objectified so much by the commission being treated like weapons makes them feel like their bodies are what make them useful-just look at hawks’ reaction to losing his wings calling himself crippled and pathetic because he can’t be as efficiently used despite still being able to achieve so much with his intelligence, determination and physical skill alone. Mirko may not have the same self deprecating attitude towards her injuries however her dedication to continue fighting by whatever means she can is a testament to how heroes are taught to act with no thought for their own safety if they want to be useful. this is what makes AFO scary to the heroes, the fact they can lose their quirk and therefore their usefulness is terrifying. i like to imagine that many heroes felt or still feel about AFO as korra did about amon in s1 of lok.
furthermore heroes are expected to give their lives at the drop of a hat, mirko lives every day like it’s her last because for heroes their is no safety net or garuntee that they will survive they can’t just give up or protect themselves in the face of certain death or they literally wouldn’t be doing their job. you saw how disposable Lady nagant was to the president of the HPSC clearly they don’t have any care for the lives of even the heroes they work closest with. Mirko and Aizawa cut off their own limbs without blinking because they have to and they’ve been trained this way and it’s horrific how ready to die all of the heroes are without a second thought despite how young they are. arguably it’s admirable but if i learnt anything from she-ra it’s that they need to find a bit of self worth and need to be treated as people who’s lives and well being should be a priority rather than disposable weapons to be used with no regard to their safety.
and it’s fucking beautiful that All might chose to live, the man who has been through the most and given pretty much all there is to give. He’s given up his whole life, his bodily health, his self esteem, his friends, his image as a natural born hero and so much more just to protect people. All might was able to break the cycle of death be choosing to live rather than give his life up and Deku will break the cycle by choosing to save rather than defeat or kill.
i just think that being a hero is so exhausting and must take so much out of you, it’s important to remember how much they are victims of the system

Okay Loki S2 E5 Reaction/ Review Time
SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE
"Science / Fiction"
OH MY GOD THAT TITLE
I cant believe I was right about all of them being scattered across different time line branches, Loki having to get his friends back and them not having memories of him :O
Also the fact that the fans predicted Casey to be a dangerous / criminal because he was always so gentle in the TVA and then we see him breaking out of freaking Alcatraz?! And the fish references too XD
B15 being a Doctor was so freaking wholesome, she really just wants to help people whetevee she is :D
OB being a Scifi Author and Scientist was just perfect XDDDD
AND WE FINALLY GOT MOBIUS ON A JETSKI THIS IS A WIN FOR THE FANDOM
And again, the fact that the fans immediately predicted that Mobius was a (single) dad in his life, because they spotted a couple toys in front of the house in the mid season trailer :D
(I could literally hear the fanfiction authors melt into a puddle at the potential of Loki x single dad Mobius XD)
And the fact that he isnt just a Dad, no he is a SINGLE FATHER of TWO SONS
The freaking parallel of Mobius' two sons and young Thor & Loki?!
One being a lil mischievous prankster and the other (most likely the older) one who has to keep him out of trouble?! And the fact that he said he loves snakes?!?! That is just straight up a Thor reference?!
No wonder Mobius knows how to deal with people like Loki XD
But as much as I like the parallel of the two sons, I also feel kinda weird about what it could imply for Mobius, like does that mean he is supposed to be a mirror or opposite of Odin? A version of a dad that didnt mess up with their parenting? That this is why Loki feels drawn to Mobius? Is that what we were supposed to conclude from that?
I know we joke about Loki liking older men, and of course Loki has his daddy issues, but if Mobius is an opposite of Odin then what does that mean for Lokius?
Now to some more lore related stuff:
Can I just say that the spaghettification effect is absolutely terrifying?!?! (as stupid as it may sound) Seeing people get spaghettified fills me with just as much dread as the Dusting from the Snap, but it is so much more horrifying because it looks so brutal compared to how "gentle" the Dusting effect is....
Then Loki & Sylvie's talk about being selfish, about their own wants & needs
"Whats wrong with wanting sth?" -  she asks Loki, but in reality, has Loki ever gotten anything he truly desired? (At least L1130 hasnt, man went straight from the Events of Thor 1, to Thanos to the New York attack, he was never able to mend his relationship with Thor or find friends...)
Now... Sylvie, she still frustrates me.... I do get that she wants a life, but you cant just stab or ignore your way out of everything... plus their world is still ending as a matter fact...
It literally took her fav lil branch getting wiped out, to realize that she was wrong, that Loki was right all along, and that was AFTER she had just convinced Loki to give up his quest... because "wanting his friends back" would make him just as "selfish" as her wanting a life... But the difference is, that while Sylvie would chose her life, instead of helping fix everything, ignoring the casualties it brings, Loki would be self sacrificial enough to give up his own needs, which he literally was about to do, until Sylvie got back because she finally wanted to help avoid the impending doom that threatened to destroy them all.
I think we all kinda knew Loki's drive wasnt necessarily saving the TVA, but wanting/ needing his friends back and wanting to keep them save, but Loki actually admitting that he "wants his friends back, that he doesnt want to be alone"
THAT BROKE ME
Especially with the motive of "no one deserves to be alone" but the Lokis only ever having themselves to find comfort, and if they tried to change that, the TVA showed up to prune them, loneliness was literally what drove Classic Loki out of his hiding and into the arms of the TVA.
And Loki saying "Without them (his friends), where do I belong?"
I didnt know it was possible, but that broke me even more... he just wants a place where he is wanted and safe...
Then the time slipping, Loki being able to Control it?! IS THAT HOW THE MCU INTRODUCES LOKI BEING A WORLD WALKER?!
Loki realizing "Its not about the when, where or why. Its about the Who" (god that part was so sweet, right in the FEELS, it was so over for me, my heart cant take much more of this)
And finally Loki chosing to rewrite "The Story"... actually "Play God" thats now full confirmation of Loki God of Stories right?! RIGHT?! I wanna see my boy, God of Stories Loki is one of my Fave Lokis :DDDD

The Avatar & The Engineer
Chapter 13: Book 2: Storm on the Horizon
Artwork by @jadequarze
After an unintentional and absurd hiatus of two years, I have finally one of my longer running fics. Finally with Book 1 done it now is time to tackle Book 2.
Months have passed since the failed Equalist uprising. Team Avatar have been largely apart from one another, each trying to return to some form of normality and stability. Asami works to regain her bending abilities, Korra buries herself in work while Future Industries stagnates, Mako pursues a new career while Bolin tries to recapture old glory.
When Korra is sent home to Southern Water Tribe to broker a business deal with an eccentric millionaire, Asami and the rest of the gang decide to tag along. But Asami begins to have visions of something sinister on the horizon.
Deepest apologies for the long wait. Hopefully this chapter makes up for it and what better way than to post it on the anniversary of LOK’s finale.
As always comments and reblogs are kindly appreciated. Special thanks again to JadeQuarze for the fantastic artwork.
I hope you enjoy.

What was the yangchen scene that infuriated you so much?
I'm glad you asked!
(I say as if I didn't leave that last one as bait.)
But I'm warning you, the explanation is going to be underwhelming for my level of rage. I'm just so sick of this kind of thing. Spoilers below the cut for both Dawn and Legacy.
In Dawn, the weapon Yangchen had been chasing the whole book turns out to be a trio of Combustion Benders working for the villain. This is treated as something completely unheard of, and no one is even capable of speculating how it might be possible.
In Legacy, Yangchen follows up on this and eventually tracks down the training site for the Combustion Benders. It turns out that the villain hadn't just been trying to churn out Combusters, she was training and researching several different possibilities. Yangchen doens't learn the full extent of what was going on there, but she does encounter the following:
The Combustion Benders
A girl whose bare-handed blows can incapacitate limbs and disable Bending
A chamber with a shackling chair and the remains of a circular metal track that would allow something to travel around the chair; elsewhere in the book, the villain speaks a code phrase and brings a reluctant subordinate completely under her control, compelled to follow her every command
Just- would it have been too much to have one slushing thing that wasn't taken from Aang's adventures? I'm almost surprised there weren't a pair of hook swords at the site or something about lightning-bending or lightning-redirection! By the time Avatar fiction is finished and the franchise is finally dead, do you think there will be one single thing in all of AtLA that won't have its history revealed in a story about a previous Avatar? Just like how everything Korra experiences needs to be explained in a story about the maturing gAang, everything in AtLA needs to be tossed out as chum for fans who can't be trusted to just enjoy a good story.
Combustion Bending can't have just been something that happened over there, it had to be part of Avatar History (TM). Chi-blocking can't just be a rare skill, it had to have been developed by a think tank run by an Avatar's arch nemesis. And Koh forbid Long Feng or the Dai Li actually invented some aspect of their brainwashing themselves- no, it turns out they lifted everything, right down to using a light on a circular track, from a textbook that was written four to five hundred years before they were born.
It's just so, so tiring. It's one thing when the garbage has to toss out this kind of fan-service in order to distract from its terrible character writing, but why does even the good stuff like the Yangchen novels have to devolve into this lack of creativity? It adds nothing to the story and took me straight out of what should have been a harrowing scene.
But Loopy, you say, what harm does it do? Lots of people like to have their fans serviced in this way, so maybe this is just a You thing, and it doesn't necessarily hurt the stories it's in just because Gene Yang was terrible at it.
Well, 'you,' I'd say that it actually does do harm, even in the hands of a good storyteller like F.C. Yee. See, one of best parts of this franchise is the sense of history it evokes. In most fantasy, thousands of years can whizz by with no change in culture, geography, language, technology, or education. But in Avatar, things change. The Fire Nation wins wars by developing new weapons. The Water Tribes go up and down in health and power depending the conditions of the world. A whole new nation is developed as a result of colonization, which itself spurs rapid development of technology. When we jump back to the beginning of time, the very world itself is made to look like a moving historical painting. And, as we increasingly explore the franchise, we find that each Avatar comes of age mostly by dealing with the problems left behind by their predecessors.
And every time something from AtLA or LoK is shoved into contrived circumstances in another era so we can have a pointless fan service moment, we chip away at that unique aspect of this franchise. We make each era more like all the others, so that no matter what Avatar you're dealing with or what era of history you're in, there will always be a Chi Blocker (TM). It takes something we all fell in love with due to its uniqueness and turns it into a formula. Instead of a scene that works by itself, we have a round of Spot The Reference.
And it happens in so much fiction these days. People used to make disparaging jokes about how every character in Star Wars, even the stupid nameless walk-on roles, has their own book. But at least it was their own book, and not the story of how it turns out Anakin Skywalker was best friends with this random alien decades before they randomly walked across his son Luke's path. We measure a storyteller's suitability to contribute to a franchise based on how much of a fan they are, not because being a fan might lend them insight into what made that franchise great in the first place, but because they can pack their stories full of continuity so that it turns out the entire history of an entire world turns on 20 people spread across a single family tree by the time subsequent generations are done marrying each other.
I'm just so sick of it. And being ambushed by it in 'Legacy of Yangchen' just made me groan, especially since I was enjoying the story so much.
Please, let's have a little self-respect as fans, okay?
...
I warned you this was going to be underwhelming.

I know this is outside your usual talking points but: thoughts on the whole "Toph MUST be a 'gold star' lesbian" fanon (The term is not great but it describes the usual fanon jokes I see about this)? Because I do see a lot of confusion about how she managed to have kids when there's like... no rule that states a very gender-nonconforming woman couldn't possibly like men in any capacity. It also ignores the angle that, if we're already doing a queer reading of her, some women would be able to give her a child.
i mean yeah, there's no rule saying gender non-conforming women can't be into men. a woman who presents herself like toph could be attracted to men. but a lot of women who present like her aren't attracted to men and present themselves that way as part of their queer identity. if you read toph that way, it can feel kind of jarring to see lok depict her as someone who had children with men. it feels like heteronormativity on the part of the show creators, like they just didn't realize the character could be read that way. they're not wrong, but they're taking the straightest interpretation.
as for me, i headcanon her as a lesbian. she's a tomboyish twelve-year-old breaking out of the expectations her family has of her based on her gender and disability, and the one implied crush she has is on an older guy in her friend group. it's a crush that can easily be explained as hero worship and a kid still figuring out her sexuality. plus, sokka has canonically dressed as a woman and at one point toph mistakes suki - the person who made him dress as a woman - for him and kisses her on the cheek. there's some ~queer things~ going on.
i think what you're seeing from fans is less confusion and more disagreement. it's "i think toph is gay so her having slept with men and had kids feels wrong to me", not "i don't understand how a gnc woman could have kids". yes, a lesbian could have kids, and could have bio kids with a transfem partner, but lok confirms that toph did in fact sleep with men to have her children. lin confronts toph about never knowing her father, and toph reluctantly gives her his name. it's a very heteronormative gripe for lin to have (it implies that kids NEED a mother and father and feel something missing without that nuclear family) and toph's dismissive attitude actually kind of supports the lesbian headcanon. she doesn't seem to like him that much. so you see how it can all feel a bit contradictory, and how fans could disagree with the way the show takes it.
you don't have to headcanon toph as a lesbian. but headcanoning her that way and therefore being kind of thrown off by her lok characterization isn't saying gnc women can't be attracted to men or have kids. it's an interpretation of a fictional character. she's not a real woman who's going to be offended we're assuming she's gay, and fans with gay headcanons aren't hurting anyone

*Beta Reader needed for a Lin Beifong/female OC centered fic on AO3*
Never mind!! I’ve found my beta!!! Position filled!
Concept art in progress.
Details: female OC is autistic, additional character has Down Syndrome.
Pre-canon LOK (only 1-2 years before the start of the show).
Rating: Explicit.
*Content warnings*: heavy topics, including:
-Trauma/PTSD
-Past mentions of rape/non-con
-Graphic descriptions and/or depictions of violence
-Past mentions of domestic violence/abuse
-Mental and physical health issues
-Death (mainly discussions/mentions of, but animal death…. Sorry)
-Ableism
-Potential homophobia and sexism (likely only lightly addressed, but we’ll see)
-Eventual explicit sexual content
Hello all! As a person who loves Lin Beifong and LOK, I came to the conclusion that there are just not enough Lin-centric fan fictions out there, and there SURE AS HELL aren’t enough Lin Beifong/female OC pairings. And there are NO Lin Beifong/neurodivergent OC pairings (at least that are explicitly tagged/stated as such). Sooo, I figured I’d write my own, because the dynamic will be interesting and fun to play with. I’m planning to write a 2-3 part fic, each part being 200k+ words. This fic will fit the trope of enemies to friends to lovers, and will be a story of self-discovery and self-love as much as it will be a slow burn love story between two women.

2014 was an important year for me. I was in my early 20s and had dated men, realized I liked being friends with them more and also wished I could like them as something more. It wasn’t until the end of LOK that a light went on inside of me, and I realized once and for all that I was queer and it was ok. It was such a relief. I had held on tight, like jaws of life tight, to this denial. But seeing two powerful and compassionate leading women end up together on a beloved show helped me heal. A lot of you are much younger and have other examples of more well defined queer romances in pop culture media, and I’m so happy for that. It’s a privilege to say that their romance was barely noticeable if not nonexistent. But for someone like me, and at the time, there was no doubt that they ended up together. There was no question. It was canon, and I saw it. I cried. My body shook. My heart pounded.
Korra was my hero. She went through so much, and still to this day people hate on her for reasons others would easily get a pass. To say she is problematic, that her story arc leans on trauma, that she is brash and hot headed and at times annoying is actually true. But it doesn’t tell the whole story of her impact on and off the screen, of her growth as a character. A story of a person processing trauma does not automatically make it a bad story. It is real. An incredibly slow burn of enemies to friends to lovers where there is no kiss at the end does not make it a bad story. It is beautiful.
Korra will forever divide fans. She will forever be hated or loved. And honestly I’m 100 percent ok with that just like I’m ok with the fact that there will always be people out there who hate me simply because I am brown and queer and woman. I will forever be scrutinized and expected to show up perfectly in every situation even though I won’t bc I am flawed as is Korra. So I’m grateful for Bryke and this story. Im grateful I am gay. And I am even grateful for my trauma. Bc I realize that my path to healing is love and compassion for others and for myself, even if it is not reciprocated. Even when I’m 50, Korra will be my fictional hero. She will always be my Avatar.

Hello!!!
I figured it would be a good idea to introduce myself on here. I’m not sure if anyone cares LOL, but I thought it would be good just in case anyone checks out my blog and wants to know what I’m about. No worries if I’m not ur cup of tea :) Also I’m not super sure how to go about this so keep in mind that I’m doing my best here to make this readable and informative! :D
You can call me Eddy. I’m 18 years old, I’m in college, and my pronouns are she/her. Nice 2 meet u!!
I’m pretty new to Tumblr, so I’m still getting used to all the buttons and features and everything on here. I mostly follow writers of fan fiction and animal blogs.
Some things I love are Doctor Who, Twilight (yeah I know), Animal Crossing (NL and NH), Crowded House, cats, fish, raccoons, bears, ATLA and LOK, Supernatural, MST3K, and Monty Python. (And a lot of other stuff, too)
I also LOVE reading stuff written by u guys on here!!! So many talented writers! The COD fandom is my current fav, but I’m always seeing new and interesting stuff from you all.
I interact with some pretty NSFW stories/art on here, so I’d like to politely request that anyone under the age of 18 seek entertainment elsewhere. No hate, of course, it’s just that with all the stuff I reblog, my account is not suitable for kids/younger teens! Thx :)
I’m very socially anxious and awkward, so that kind of shows on here. I don’t really know how to talk to people. I promise I’m nice!!! Just awkward sometimes 🫠
I like to reblog and like lots of stuff. I post stuff sometimes, not sure why! Usually just a run on sentence expression of whatever I’m thinking about at the time. I spend most of my time alone irl, so it feels nice to call out into the Tumblr void, even if there’s no answer! Anyway yeah I mostly reblog LOL
I’m not sure how to end this post, goodbye !
:D

As an apology, have some introductions to Nukilik’s small crew of pirates!
Ikiaq (his First Mate), Hanta (the Cook/Muscles) and Sesi (the Navigator who is obsessed with geology and bugs). They’re not your typical idea of pirates, but when in the business of jade smuggling and trade, you gotta take what you can get.
