What? oh it’s nothing just the crippling grief of watching a nineteen year old abuse victim with a barely-functioning support system and a manipulative father figure try his absolute hardest to give the child he was unwillingly saddled with something resembling childhood by making war a game. Because he doesn’t have any other ideas. It’s just the slow horror of her wonder and innocence dimming over time. It’s just how her childishness was portrayed not as the good and right nature of her age, but a liability on the battlefield. Not only that, but her childhood personality was actively loathed by us, the fans watching, because it was annoying. Have you ever met a fourteen year old who wasn’t annoying? It’s the dawning realization that none of us liked Ahsoka much until she’d had her innocence seared out by blaster fire. It’s the shame of knowing that we saw her slow painful slide into loss and suffering as growth, as development into something more palatable, less bothersome, more mature for her age. Because it’s fiction, and fiction doesn’t need to be realistic, just entertaining, and we’d never look at a Real Kid that way. It’s just the knowledge that anakin was a slave with a slave mother until he was nine, and at nine spoke with the gravity and wry wit of someone who has witnessed hell. It’s that he was married with a child at nineteen, crouched in the dirt bloody as bombs shot overhead and his little sister tried not to cry in his arms and his men died without hope beside him, and would stay that way for three years.

They stop keeping score a few seasons in. I don’t remember when. They stop because it wouldn’t work anymore, it wouldn’t be funny. We wouldn’t find it funny. Games can’t make war fun when you aren't a child.

Actually I have thoughts about this bc I agree.

I think Kremy made a contract with Gideon that was filled to the brim with clauses and catches, though with the guarantee of food and a ticket to a good afterlife if conditions were met, when they first teamed up. He thought he was an easy scam at the time. When they became friends, he ended up shredding the contract out of a rare glimpse of guilt. When he told Gideon about it, and that he can leave if he wants, no strings attached, Gideon said,

"okay...but like. I can stay if I want to right?"

"Yes.."

"And you'll keep cookin'?"

"Yeah, 'course. Can't let you starve"

"Alright. Well. I'm gonna go back to sleep now. See you in the mornin'"

A new contract was made, but in much simpler terms. In basically read, "this contract confirms the friendship of Gideon Nathaniel Coal and Kremy Lecroux, and, upon death, Gideon Nathaniel Coal will be permitted as a +1 to the afterlife promised by the Baron, per Kremy Lecroux's request". Kremy wanted no obligation on Gideon's part, but did want him to join him after death.

Similar situations played out with the rest of the Krew. Each of the workers of the carnival had to sign a contract, though they were not promised an afterlife (it had been a special stipulation for his bodyguard position). As such, Frost, Gricko, Torbek, and even Hootsie had signed contracts already. They, again, were full of sneaky wording and small text to guarantee he could get the most out of them. After traveling for a while, though, he decided that the contracts were "outdated" and "needed revisions".

The new contracts aren't as straight forward as Gideon's, but they are fairly simple in their terms.

"By signing this contract, you agree to follow and join Kremy Lecroux until dismissal or death. A guarantee of food and companionship is provided to you. By signing this contract, you also are provided protection from Kremy Lecroux, who will not harm you under his own autonomy, with intent to kill unless this contract is broken.

If you harm Kremy Lecroux under your own autonomy, with intent to kill, your contract will be void, and consequences will ensue as he or the Baron see fit"

He offered passes into the afterlife, but Gricko and Frost (and Hootsie) declined. Torbek has yet to be offered it.
