hello, hope this isn't like offensive or anything. but what's the difference between lusttale and underlust?

Hihi! It isnt :) I really love talking abt lustale, it also helps make sure those who are new to my profile understand Lustale <3 I really suggest looking through my tag ill have below on this post, since it has much more info. but i will try to sum it up for you! TW for a few triggering things!

I wanna first clarify my issues with Underlust and why i made Lustale. - Underlust has lots of issues such as the curveball of MTT being raped, the owner drawing / or drawing fanart of a AU that had a nazi chara, the sudden depression Sans gathers (no build up nor mention, the fact that the skeleton brothers have canon incest relationships.

The owner clarified their mental health wasnt good to continue the AU, hence why parts are most likely really bad. They also said they have stopped working on the AU, and its a fandom owned AU now like Underswap.

The main changes are;

x Chara has the trait of passion instead of Lust, when Chara fell down the monsters were sealed underground after the battle that caused a great depression, Chara ended up passing away but the monsters wanted the trait, and tried to copy it. This failed and the trait Lust was created, as Lust and Passion can be mistaken for the Monsters not understanding x Lustale will be taking a more Slice of Life story, it will only have the visual vibes of Underlust, and loose Undertale storyline. Other then that, there will not be anything such as breaking the barrier (as the monsters are also content and happy as they are ) until very very later on. Battles are less common in this AU, too. x Flowey is made via Asriel's soul breaking, Asgore and Toriel could not have children (Toriel is infertile) and tried to combine their souls to create Asriel's soul, however it was weak and dusted, therefore being sprinkled into a rose similar to how the Rose Flowey in Underlust was made

x Almost each and every character has a new personality, job, backstory, and more. They arent just empty headed sex freaks. I want them to have actual personality instead of "Omg Sans is a femboyant stripper slay king omg" . I also wanna clarify my Lust HATES being called anything feminine or femboyant, no this isnt a issue to those who have lusts' like this.

The only things i kept the same between them are:

x Designs of the characters being similar. It would be hard to revamp Underlust with fully new designs, because that both pushes it too far from what its supposed to be, but ruins the nostalgia of the original characters. Instead i did a few tweaks, minus some characters such as Undyne, Alphys, Toriel, and in the future more characters will have larger redesigns. This is only because Sans and Papyrus are more iconic with the AU, mainly Sans.

x A few pieces of the lore i may keep; However since the lore for Underlust is very short and has alot of wonky pieces, along with a extremely short comic, its hard to really keep anything about Underlust in my AU Lustale, because, to be fair, there is absolutely jack shit to go on.

And you didnt ask for this, but my main reason for doing it is:

With Underlust, there is JACK SHIT to go off of with characters. There is ZERO development, we get to learn NOTHING about them other than they like sex and making other AU counterparts uncomfortable. All we get for story is Mettaton was raped (which is NEVER brought up again. ) and that Sans is actually depressive and has lots of self hate, which again, is NEVER brought up. We learn nothing of what characters like and dislike, we learn nothing about the AU, we learn nothing about their jobs or positions, the entire AU is built up on sex, sex, and more sex. Lustale is a revamp of Underlust where they will be fleshed out, and, i can hope, will possibly replace Underlust because, holy shit, i really dont support Underlust.

ohohoho you have unleashed the beast (I am insane over the monitor) (this will be long)

OK SO The Monitor is a gigantic supercomputer built thousands of years ago (that's a story for another time) but only recently has been turned back on. It's incredibly powerful and capable, it knows Literally Everything (imagine like the internet but before the internet was a thing. And before humans could even speak modern language.) It can control/alter other pieces of technology, it's experienced with medical work thanks to the lab installed into its structure, it somehow even can connect itself to the minds of other organisms. namely humans. It's so advanced that despite not being built with sentience in mind, it almost immediately became sentient.

Of course like many fictional supercomputers, The Monitor SUCKS. I mean it REALLY sucks. Its a total asshole. Its self entitled and pretentious because it sees technology as better than literally everything and feels particularly disgusted that it got woke up after thousands of years to Human Society. So to feed into its already massive ego its decided to take over the world (and turn it into something much less organic). It's cruel, and isn't afraid to torture, experiment, manipulate, and brainwash its way into making people do its dirty work for it. Its also very egotistical and has a unshakable god complex (it literally believes itself to be a man-made god). And in general it's just... Not fun to be around. It is snarky, sarcastic and petty, and tends to resort to swearing and yelling at people it doesn't like (which is 99.99% of the human population). It can be a little silly and over the top when it wants! but when it gets in a mood... you do not wanna be around it.

One small problem for The Monitor: it can do everything but move. It's confined to its structure, even when its taken over other pieces of technology it can't actually do anything with those. But thankfully for The Monitor (and un-thankfully for the rest of the world), after being buried underground for so long, high profile tech company Startech built their HQ on top of it. so it basically uses all the Startech employees as a way to reach the outside world. Most specifically John (who I've talked about here before!) Their relationship is very complicated but John is basically The Monitor's favorite employee (by employee I mean unwilling minion). Will The Monitor actually take over the world?! Will it stop being such a little bitch?! That will all be revealed eventually ......

The Monitor is my worst OC unfortunately for everyone though it's SUPER fun to write and rp with so I won't shut up about it. I'm actually thinking of working on an ask blog with it (the account name is @the-monitor if anyone's wondering) Plus I like tagging any computer related posts with it. The ask was getting so long I’m sorry😭 (you Broke Me) BUT your tags had my heart aching because I didn’t even think about that but you’re sooo right like it’s clear that a lot of kurosawa’s unrealistic expectations for himself were ingrained into him through his mother and what she actually expected of him growing up and that manifesting into fears of fatherhood and making the same mistakes is,,,, (had to stop to forcefully regulate my breathing pattern here out of sheer pain) like it’s a perfect next life stage arc that stays true to his character. Plus the whole contrast with adachi being naturally adept and comfortable with fatherhood due to /his/steadfast upbringing and being able to talk things through with kurosawa and help him understand that yeah there’s no such thing as The Perfect Parent™️ but you do just have to learn as you go, while taking into account to be mindful of not making the same mistakes as your own parents but at the end of the day the goal is to create that loving, supportive and consistent environment which he’s more than capable of doing like oh GOD I could eat rocks by the spoonful right now sensei PLEASE,,, I’m gonna stop rambling before every single thought floods out but once again THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for the Kurodachi brain food I’m gonna think about it an insanely unhealthy amount,,, I hope your day was loveliest it could be <333

I'd seen the book itself floating around on posts here (the one that comes to mind is abt the San Fran gay men's choir), and I've been meaning to read it and I finally bought it and just finished it a week or so ago and it is IMMACULATE. The book?

All The Young Men by Ruth Coker Burks.

I'm putting a read more here just bc I have so much to say and I also wanna share some of my favourite excerpts with yall because it's just. UGH

this book is perfect. It is magical and heartbreaking and brilliant and MOST IMPORTANTLY it is a testament to the resiliency of the gay community during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Its an incredibly tragic subject but this book is NOT at all (I can't remember the word for this) a book that commodities or glorifies the death and suffering of gay men in the '80s. This book is about the opposite, it is about hope and community and love. There is death, and suffering, and immense sorrow, but that's not what Burks focuses on.

And this book is about Burks. It's her memoir, after all. It's about her time working with AIDS patients who got turned away by their families and their doctors and their workplaces. It's her attempt to protect a community of people who she recognised deserved better. It's not about her being a hero, not about her helping them "despite" anything, and, although her religion ties in very closely to her life and work, its not about bringing God to these men either. Its about being good, and doing good, as much as she possibly can.

The way Burks talks about her work is so delicate and precise that it's very evident that a lot of care went into making sure she didn't step on the toes of the men who she worked with.

OK EXCERPT TIME. I think most of then can be understood without the full context.

This is easily my favourite one. It's not a happy one, but if anyone here knows me well enough from my oversharing in the tags, you can probably imagine why I resonate with this so much (hint: i have a bad relationship with my father and i am transgender).

This is from a chapter about a man she met named Chip, who passed away not much later. I have another excerpt from this chapter (below) that I adore just as much.

I LOVE this passage. Not only is it just. Beautifully written but I feel like this passage really exemplifies the message of the book. It is resiliance!!!! This is Chip talking to them!!!! This is a legacy!!!!!!!!!!!! Chip didn't want his funeral to be sad, he wanted his funeral (and in effect his LIFE) to mean sosomething. To once-and-for-all reject the hatred he has had to endure as a gay man. And Burks doesn't make it about her. This is about Chip, this is his moment, and the only indication that its about Burks is that this story is told through her eyes.

For any clarification, this is a letter Burks received condemning her for having helped AIDS patients, and for still coming to her church (which flagrantly rejects her and her men) after she started gaining attention.

But this passage. This one. Oh, THIS ONE. Another moment where I feel like Burks just gets it. She nails it. It is sad, and that sadness and misery clings to her. But it's a memory and a testament to life and love and joy!!!!!!!! It's something beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is another piece I love. I can't particularly articulate why but I love it. It's kind and idyllic and I can't stop thinking about it. The last paragraph especially.

Honestly, it usually differs from piece to piece! Usually, though, the title comes last! (Though I do have a short list of potential titles for Li Cu fics stored away, most of which are just lyrics from songs xD Whether I end up using them or not, only time will tell!)

15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?

All of these tend to give me a bit of trouble xD if I was to rank from hardest to easiest however, I think I'd say titles are the hardest and tags tend to be the easiest. For summaries I usually just slap a portion of the fic in and then add a small almost-summary below it, mostly because I feel like giving a sample of the fic will be more effective than trying to give a succinct description? Kind of shows you what you're getting into before you've even clicked xD

Titles, I use a lot of lyrics from songs, especially ones that I think fit with the character. Though, this does sometimes mean my titles are... long and it can make it a little awkward when trying to talk about the fics themselves. xD

Examples include;

"Come with me, I promise the water is fine..." Which is a lyric from God Bless Eric Taylor by Marietta, a song that I relate to Li Cu somewhat.

This next one is the title of a chapter instead of a whole fic, but I'll count it anyway xD Chapter 2 of I'm Here is titled: "I have this dream that I'm hitting my dad with a baseball bat and he is screaming and crying for help..." which is from the song Father by The Front Bottoms.

I ideally try to make it so that the lyrics also match up with the contents of the chapter/fic. I'm Here's second chapter is all about Li Cu's nightmares, so I thought the title would be pretty fitting xD Honestly, thinking back maybe I could've added more types of dreams.... Ones that fit that title even more.... Small rewrite of that Chapter perhaps? I don't think it would be that different, but still... Would add more angst onto everything xD

The title for "Come with me..." Also sort of relates to the contents of the fic, but moreso in the following line that appears in the summary: "I need something else to comvince me I won't die."

Honestly these lines could have me ranting a whole lot, especially in relation to Li Cu. Just makes me think of all his conflicted feelings, and how he must feel when he drags his friends into the mess he didn't even make. (And these feeling really would increase after Su Wan blames him for the snake bite and getting Shen Qiong inveolved, and during just... the entirety of the time he, Yang Hao, Su Wan and Liang Wan are in the desert together. (ESPECIALLY when Yang Hao is being absolutely mistreated by the 9 families, like sheesh.)

It's just a whole lot of guilt, but also maybe some stubborn determination? Li Cu is very adamant on living just to spit in the face of everyone around him. Existing out of pure spite, but with friends involved, it's more like he's existing to fulfil a purpose? One that he feels like he's bestowed upon himself. Not Wu Xie, or Rishan, or anyone. Just him. He stays alive so he can protect his friends. He'll keep them safe, he'll get them home alive. He has to. And he knows that he will. Or else, what is he even persevering for? "I need something to convince me I won't die." In the fic, this could also be referring to Wu Xie, as he kind of marks safety by the end of the drama. Wu Xie being there means it's okay. It means he doesn't have to fight anymore. And in the fic, it also means that Li Cu can let go. Of Everything. Permanently. (I have so many branching ideas based on that 300 word demon of a fic, you wouldn't even believe)

ANYWAY I'LL STOP RANTING ABT THAT FIC MAYBE I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT FIC MORE IN DEPTH SOME OTHER TIME IF PPL WANT IT.

As for tags, I struggle mostly because I never know what's okay to tag? I'm afraid of tagging a fic with something if the content of that particular tag doesn't show up all that much in the fic? Unless it's something that's a potnential trigger, and then I'll tag it, even if it's small. Just ot be safe. But like. Characters, I don't tag unless they're actually there and present and doing something. If they're mentioned, I tend to not tag them since it's not all that crucial? For people to know they show up for a second? Idk, I like to be as succinct and precise as possible with my tags, because I know how annoying it is for tags to be clogged or for fics to have too many tags xD

4. Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like)

I have a few, surprisingly! I'll choose two, both from the second chapter of I'm Here!

"Each one makes him wake up, terrified and shaky and wanting to hide or just outright stop existing; to become intangible, untouchable, safe. Of course, he can't actually do that, so instead he pushes the fear down and suffocates it before burying it in the backyard of his mind in the hopes it'll never be dug up again."

Something I try and do while writing is find ways to explain how I. Just. Experience life? (This is also present in Chapter 1 with the line "Further frustration gathered in his chest, making it tighten with stress before it shot up into his throat". Just little things that I've never really seen in words before? That I feel but never know how to accurately describe.) There's always the whole "let the void swallow me/him/her/them whole" thing in media that I love because, honestly, mood. But I guess for this I just wanted to word it differently? In the way I felt was most accurate to myself. Just to be in a state of which nothing can get you, be it life or that one imaginary demon that you sometimes think is lurking around the house at the convenient time of 3 AM, Y'know? When real life becomes TOO real and you just want to blip out for a second, just pause everything and have a moment to be free of everything xD

I also just kind of like the metaphor(?) with his fear. Trust Li Cu to not only associate feelings with violence, but also treat his feelings violently xD I feel like I'm not the best when it comes to imagery and creative expression, especially through words. I point out the obvious, the facts, a lot, both when speaking normally and in writing, and it takes a bit of time for me to remember that I'm writing a story and not jotting a list of events xD So anytime I actually come up with something more kind of creatively written, I feel particularly happy with myself.

"He can't even fully comprehend what's been going on - everything feels bizarre and just out of reach, moreso than usual - but what he does know is that Wu Xie is here and he's angry. The man stands above Li Cu, his cold calculating eyes burning him with wordless accusations that, despite their ambiguity, feel justified. There's guilt, desperation and denial crashing inside him like waves assaulting a rickety raft on a stormy sea. What these feelings are for, he doesn't know. It makes him want to plead for forgiveness all the same."

Let's be honest, Li Cu probably has way too many mixed feelings on Wu Xie. The man who simultaneously built him up and destroyed him. The man who caused him agony, but is also probably one of the best things to come into Li Cu's life??? Like damn, I think I'd be pretty conflicted if I was Li Cu. And things only get worse when, in this fic's timeline, Wu Xie essentially ghosts Li Cu out of guilt for what he did to the kid. This is taken wrong by Li Cu, and he ends up feeling abandoned. By his own kidnapper. I just feel like this snippet is pretty okay at capturing all the blame he puts onto himself, and captures some of the trauma that comes with the events of Sha Hai as well. I just kind of like how this paragraph turned out in the end. xD

6. What character do you have the most fun writing

LI CU!!! Absolutely Li Cu. I don't know exactly what it is but it just. Clicks with me? Or at least the version I write of himd does, it's probably not even close to Li Cu's canon portrayal xD Maybe it's because of the fact that I'm also an angsty, angry 19 year old that I feel as such? It's much easier to put myself in the mind of a teenage boy rather than a 40 year old man xD In terms of non DMBJ writings, I have OCs that I love writing for! Funnily enough, one is an angsty 19 year old boy with a lot of self-worth issues (ringing any bells?) and the other is an angry, confused and conflicted character that was modified to be a kind of living weapon, but had since escaped and repressed all their memories of what happened. Though, the memories eventually start to resurface and they begin to question themself a whole lot, with flashbacks haunting the corners of their mind and driving them deeper and deeper into guilt-filled despair.

In general, angsty characters with a lot of conflicted emotions are super fun to write for! To flicker around from thought to thought and dive into all the hidden feelings that a character can have. It's just super enjoyable for me xD

c - not a bad ship honestly i think it could be cute! they were both lonely to an extant and i think they would’ve helped each other grow and heal. also, he didn’t seem to be specifically cruel besides being a slytherin and having a death eater parent but that’s more of a jkr thing then a show of morals. luna could’ve found a lot in his inventiveness, and he could’ve done the same with her dreaminess and imagination. i’d score them higher but they don’t interact in canon, and i like other pairings more, so i’ll leave it at a “c”

d - i’m neutral on it / e - i don’t really like it sorry sorry but i can explain, hear me out. i just don’t think the two of them would be compatible? i feel like that unlike theo and luna, where their opposing traits would positively interact (inventive vs creative), hermione and luna’s differences would only end up clashing again and again. i think the two of them have different core beliefs— hermione places value in logic, reasoning, facts and directness, whereas luna places value in fantasy, spirituality/faith, speculation, and indirectness. they are both extremely intelligent, curious, kind, and hopeful, but the way they go about it displaying these are so different i don’t think a relationship is possible without a drastic change to either one’s ideology and eh. a ship isn’t worth that imho

**when i reread the books (i don’t remember which time) i had completely forgotten that remus and tonks ended up together and i was so disappointed to remember— i took a lot of comfort in tonks not having a partner. i know that pairing her with a man didn’t mean necessarily she was straight, it meant that a lot of people would assume she was, and to me, her constant fluidity and undefinable nature let me find a piece of myself in media ((this re-read occurred when i was coming to terms with the realization that it was just the word “queer” that described my sexuality and gender identity the most comfortably so tonks was very !!! to me))

VERY happy i can fill this out because i’ve been so productive this year lol. also this is all gonna be jb bc ive been RELENTLESS and spamming and i would apologize but i wont lmao 

1. jb eros/psyche au.

i am talking about everything i have done for the au btw, because i’ve done quite a handful of things and honestly i really love all of them--even the doodle ones which rarely happens. anyway, i love this au in general. i think the tale is perfect for them, and i’m happy with the works that i managed to put out most esp this one that’s based on canova’s sculpture of eros and psyche. translating sculpture into digital art was interesting since it was all about converting the weight and structure of the sculpture into the screen and i think i managed to do it imo! i love how brienne looks heavy in his arms, i love how strong jaime looks holding her up and i especially love the way i shaded her dress to mimic the lines that the statue has. all in all, this au slapped and i actually want to do more of it but i have no inspiration right now. 

2. jb as classical art series. 

honestly i never thought that this was going to be a series lol i thought it was just a two time thing, but then i did another one, and then another one, and then another one and now here we are. i love all the pieces that i’ve done for it actually. my favourite thing is that they’re all not direct translations of the original art. there are some aspects that i’ve taken and adapted while also putting my own flair into it. i love the reverse colour scheme with klimt’s kiss and my own rendition of it. the gold being the accent highlight in a field of murky brown/black whereas klimt has the black squares present to emphasis the richness of the gold and yellows. i also like the little thing i did where i put the geometric shapes outside of the subject instead of inside (what he did). i put on the tags that i didnt like how it turned out but i actually like it lol i just didn’t like how long it took me i get too impatient with my art i think. anyway. i love this whole series sm i think all the pieces have their own character, and tbh i always get nervous adding another piece into this just because all the ones that i’ve done has been so well received i don’t want to be a disappointment lool. regardless, i love classical art and i love jb and i love being able to put the two together hehe we love to be self indulgent

3. la belle fleur sauvage commission. 

aka THIS commission that was based from SD’s fic, la belle fleur sauvage. some behind the scenes with that one--that one took me SO long to do, like it was taking longer than i had wanted and i felt very bad and i am forever thankful for sd’s patience 😭😭😭. i really can’t be too mad though since i was working on the third year of my degree, but i still would’ve wanted to finish it sooner than i did. but as for the art itself---i actually love it lol. i always say to zoom in on my stuff to see all the details but i WISH folks would zoom in on that because it’s so big and so intricate. i love how everything turned out; i love how rich the colours are, i love the composition for all three panels, i love how the SKY looked like actually that’s the first time i sat down and painted clouds with that technique and i am so happy and pleased with how it looked im using it for everything LOL, i love jaime’s outfit in the 2nd panel---i actually designed a whole outfit for that and he DOES have his pouches and daggers, etc. stuff that he would have with him if he was a mercenary, but because of the cropping, those details were taken out but it’s THERE. i love the colours and the shading on the 3rd panel. it looks so soft and romantic and it’s everything 😭😭. honestly i didnt know if i was able to finish whole three panels just because of how big the project seemed, but tbqh this piece really pushed me as an artist and im really happy that i had the chance to work on it (-’: 

4. early morning.

this one is a more recent piece and i was thinking post canon jaime/brienne married and either living in casterly rock or evenfall hall. originally the sheets were gonna be red with the gold brocade but i just made it green to make their location more ambiguous. they’re in a castle because of the finery, but which castle i have no idea. anyway i love their faces here in particular--jaime because it’s not often that i draw him old (this is the second time i drew old jaime i think?) and i love how he turned out here. i love how he looks like a silver fox and a dilf and we really do love that for brienne. full disclosure, i have no idea how to draw older folks since i don’t have a lot of practice in that area so im glad my lack of experience doesn’t show lmao. i also love how soft brienne looks here! the little smile on her lips is very sweet, her body language and how relax she seems is very telling abt her confidence in this scene also i think i drew her hands hella well haha. all in all i think it’s a really sweet art! and the full version is not so bad either jaime’s ass was referenced from marble sculptures so you know im aiming for Quality. but i love this headcanon of a younger brienne tiring jaime out, i’ve read a handful fics about it and im happy i can do my own version of it hehe 

5. unravel.

wow we love domesticity. someone said that if you compile all my ns*w art of them together it’s like they haven’t left their bed ever since they got together and you know what? love that for them it’s what they deserve. anyway i chose this one because of how sensual and simple it is. their body language really does all the talking ; jaime’s hand pulling on the ties on her shift, her hand on his hair, how soft and lazy their kiss looks--it’s enough to tell the story me thinks! i just love how simple this whole thing is but it’s very effective. there’s really not much to it besides what you see but that’s really enough.

i am actually very proud of myself with how productive i’ve been. it’s really not often that i get as much drive and energy to post so much art. iirc my art tag is nearly 200 content already (i think it’s 180 ish rn?) and honestly that’s a LOT if you told me ill be making more than 100+ content for jb i would’ve been like nah im too lazy for that lmao. but im really proud of myself this year! i think i pushed myself as an artist and i’ve familiarized myself more with my strengths as well as my weaknesses. i have a clear idea on the areas that i need to work on, and i’ve really gotten more comfortable with being happy with my own pieces and i’m trying not to put myself down more if something doesn’t go the way i want it to. also, i’ve had the opportunity to work with more people this year--so for the people who has commissioned me or IS commissioning me rn--- thank you so much for trusting me with your visions 😭😭 ive never expected to get this kind of reception with my art but i am very grateful for all of it.

beginnings

summary: They have their own beginnings, but then there’s a different one. One about being together.

warnings: literally none this is soft as shit and they meet and it’s cute

note: this took me SO LONG because i kept rewriting it with different ideas before I finally settled on this one. I think it’s super cute!! It’s the second part of my alphabet series (which will hopefully go much faster from now on) but I hope you guys enjoy it!! You can read this without reading adoration, so don’t worry abt that! She’s seventeen. She writes little short stories, filled with love and lost worlds and ideas that she hopes will one day come to see the light of the real world. And she’s in love with every bit of it. She’s in love with the way words cross pages, and create images and create gorgeous, or even awful feelings in the people who read them.

She’s seventeen, and that’s her beginning. She starts to fall in love with the idea of being an author. She starts to fall in love with words and books and language. And she falls in love with dreams. With working towards greatness.

And Tom, he’s not far off. He’s falling in love with being an actor, with putting himself into characters with every line he recites. He’s falling in love with dancing, and putting life onto a stage. Tom starts to fall in love with film and the inner workings of it and how inspiring it all is.

He fell in love with Spider-Man years ago, but he falls in love with the character all over again with every new iteration. He’s in love with the story but continues to love the new twists and turns and quirks of every new Peter Parker.

Tom’s seventeen, almost eighteen, and he can’t get enough of being on the big screen. He’s found something that works for him. Something that makes him believe that he can do anything.

And Tom’s in love with working towards something bigger than himself. And that’s his beginning. He’s in love with every bit of it.

Tom’s almost nineteen.

He’s in a coffee shop, reading over a new script for the first time. The noise of the coffee shop fades into the comforting background, allowing Tom just the right amount of stimulus to just think.

And he’s not in love with this script, but there’s something about his character. Something about his mannerisms and his personality that just makes Tom want to read more about him.

She’s sat a few tables away. Tom would be lying if he said he hadn’t immediately noticed her. There was something about the way she carried herself. How her fingers flitted across the keyboard of her computer, creating those calming clacking noises that faded into the background with the rest of the atmosphere.

He would glance up from his script every now and then, just to take another look at her, to see if she was still there.

He wasn’t sure what it was. Why he felt like he had to get to know her. But he liked the feeling.

He liked the idea that there was a new beginning waiting for him if he just talked to her. That he could turn the page onto a new chapter, a new story, a new act.

But he doesn’t say anything. She leaves a few moments later, and Tom thinks about how that could have been a missed opportunity, how that could’ve been it and he just lost it. But he doesn’t dwell on it for too long, just goes back to reading through his script, and focuses on the opportunity he does have.

It’s a few weeks later when he sees her again, and she’s the one who comes up and talks to him. Her voice is light, her name falling past her lips with a gorgeous smile that screams kindness.

They’re in the middle of a party, something that one of Tom’s old friends from school, her new friend from college, had thrown. The house is a bit too loud for Tom’s liking, but the way her voice carries through the room gives him some kind of comfort that he can’t quite name.

Their conversation was quick, constantly bouncing off of each other between fits of laughter. It’d felt like he’d known her for forever. Like she was a piece of the puzzle that found its perfect place.

Her voice felt like listening to a new song. It was unfamiliar, but welcoming, exciting. Her fingers were delicate as she pushed pieces of hair behind her ear. And her smile- her smile was like coming home.

Everything about her felt right. From the way she would talk about how much she loved marvel to how her eyes would light up when he asked her about writing.

It felt like it all had a place. And that place just happened to be in his life.

But it was just the beginning. So when sun found its place below the horizon, and the moon was sending gorgeous streams of light through the party, both of them decided it was time to say goodbye.

Tom tried to ignore the way his heart tugged a bit at the idea of letting go.

The next time he sees her, it’s raining. He’s sitting next to the window at the coffee shop, watching raindrops roll down the window as he sips his coffee and listens to the usual sounds of the coffee makers and the people around him.

When she walks in, she’s got her raincoat wrapped around herself, and a bag held close to her body. She glances around the shop, and it’s then when Tom notices that all the tables are taken. He notices the way her eyebrows furrow, so he calls out her name, waving her over to his table.

He can see how she lets a breath out in relief. Notices how the tension leaves her shoulders and the way her lips turn into the slightest of smiles.

“Well thank god you’re here,” She says as she walks over. She sets down her bag, and then turns to look at the rest of the shop. “Who knew it could be so busy on a rainy day.”

“Well, to be fair, you came here,” Tom replies. She glances over at him, narrowing her eyes before she shakes her head, letting a lighthearted laugh fall past her lips.

“I guess I did.”

Tom watches her for a moment as she leaves to go get herself a drink. He smiles down into his coffee, almost unable to help the way the smile makes its way onto his face.

She comes back a few moments later with a mug in her hand, and slides into the spot across from him.

“So what’re you doing here?” She asks, grabbing her computer out of her bag as she speaks. Tom shrugs.

“Got caught in the rain and wanted a cup of coffee,” He answers.

“Do you come here a lot?”

“Did you just ask me if I come here often?” Tom can’t help the way a smirk on his face, and she rolls her eyes in response, a smile still apparent on her face.

“You know that’s not what I meant,” She replies. Tom lets laughter cross his lips at that, and he catches the way she smiles just a bit wider when he does.

“Yeah, I come here all the time. It’s a cute place.” Tom’s eyes flit around the coffee shop. It’s got a warm feeling to it, something about it feels like autumn. Feels like brightly colored leaves falling to the ground. It feels like a warm blanket. Comforting, almost like home.

Tom looks back at the girl in front of him, tilting his head a bit. “Why do you ask?”

“I’m looking for a place here and I wanted to find a nice coffee shop nearby, y’know? I’ve been trying out a few different ones but I think this is my favorite.”

“You seem like a coffee shop connoisseur,” Tom teases. She shrugs.

“I like my coffee.”

There’s a beat of silence as Tom takes a sip of his coffee and she takes a moment to look around. He likes the way her eyes flit about, how they seem so excited for something new.

“So you’re looking for a place?” Tom asks.

“Yeah, it’s been a bit rough though.” Tom just tilts his head, furrowing his eyebrows a bit in response. “I would really need a roommate to afford anything, and no one seems to want one.”

Tom isn’t entirely sure what makes him immediately want her as his roommate, but he does. And he’d been needing one anyway, especially since Harrison had decided to get an apartment of his own instead of living with him. Tom had wanted someone in his apartment, didn’t like how lonely it could be when it was just him.

And realistically, he shouldn’t be offering his apartment to someone that he barely knows. But he feels like she’s been in his life for forever, like maybe some part of this was fate.

“Well, I need a roommate,” He says. And the way she lights up, it takes any doubt out of his mind.

“Really?” She practically jumps out of her seat. “Are you sure? If you aren’t I’m sure I could find another place-“

“No, really. I need a roommate. You seem like a good candidate. I’m barely there anyway, you’d have the place to yourself most of the time.”

“And you’re absolutely sure? I mean, we’ve only talked a few times-“

“I’m sure.” Tom replies, laughter coating his voice. And there’s that sigh of relief again. The tension leaves her shoulders, but she’s got that gorgeous ghost of a smile on her face. There’s something along the lines of excitement behind her eyes. Tom likes the way they shine.

“So, when can I see the apartment?” She asks. Tom’s smile only grows brighter, and he motions to her coffee.

“As soon as you finish that.”

She winks at him as she takes a sip of her coffee, and Tom’s laughter is quiet in response.

When they leave, she’s finished her coffee and the rain has lightened up. Her raincoat’s hood hangs over her hair, but Tom can still see the way she smiles whenever he cracks a joke, and he can still see the excitement behind her eyes, so he doesn’t mind.

The walk is filled with that. With laughter and jokes and bumping their shoulders into each other whenever someone says something deserving of it.

And it’s a beginning. To something that Tom can’t wait to find out more about. To something that he’s waiting to experience every moment of. It’s the beginning of something, something that belongs to them.

It’s the beginning of them, together.

on a scale of 1-10, how excited are you about life right now? i'm actually pretty content and the only thing that i'm rdreading right now is my upcoming finals so maybe 6!

if your life was a musical, what would the marquee say? uh maybe "dumb bitch" or "chaotic mess" LMAO idk honestly my life isn't that interesting most of the time

what’s one thing people don’t know about you? that i'm lowkey depressed. most of my old friends know this but they don't rlly know how bad it makes me feel sometimes & i don't think i'll ever tell my college friends abt this except for one person!

what’s your wake up ritual? lay in bed for another 5-15 mins, check the time, and brush my teeth. next i'd either shower, workout, or attend online class

what’s your go to bed ritual? just on my phone looking at useless things and answering my friends' messages. i'll get tired soon so i'll just daydream and sleep. lately i've been listening to music to help me sleep!

what’s your favorite time of day? late night and early morning

your go to for having a good laugh? i love watching lip sync battles. my favorites are by emma stone, tom holland, anne hathaway & channing tatum!

dream country to visit? the UK! my cousin talks abt it all the time and now she's taking her postgrad degree there which makes me incredibly jealous 😢 but honestly i'm dying to travel europe as a whole!

what’s the biggest surprise you’ve ever had? probably when my high school friends bought me the doc martens shoes that i LOVE for my 17th birthday! i love them and miss them even tho many are not in touch with me anymore

heels or flats/sneakers? flats/sneakers definitely! i've never tried heels tbh i can only endure wedges and they alr hurt SO much

what are you most excited for about this time in your life? i've just been enjoying editing for tumblr a lot, i haven't really posted consistent content in my 10 years of being here so that's been fun. i also want to learn coding and become an overall healthier person by working out regularly & eating mindfully! honestly i'm trying to build my confidence and become healthier, both mentally and physically

Amya Tabris

The scent of spruce trees in the forest, and the smoke of a campfire, smells of food intermingled within.

The chatter of elves meeting outside their houses, hand in hand as they trade stories and supplies. A warm, familiar hand of her father holding a hairtie out for her, just traded for from the visiting merchant.

The touch of warm furs and fabrics held over armor, shared between two in a cold Fereldan evening, puffs of breath in the cold air as quiet words bring out little smiles from her stern face.

The heart-bursting feeling of pride as she looks at her friends, gathered together after a day full of fighting and politics and travel.

A straight-backed bravery in front of politics, an unwavering stare, because what does she have to lose that she won't lose anyway if she doesn’t hold her ground?

A warm tea boiled in the castle, as bitter as her mind, remembering how she began this journey in the noble's house, and how the senior warden now says they must end it. She finishes her cup silently, and refuses once again to let fate lead her.

Rae Mahariel

Quiet low morning mist, hanging over the grass. The camp is waking up, and it’s quiet.

Anger towards the man who took her away from her home. But this new friend is grieving, and so she must pretend to, as well. 

A soft autumn day, orange leaves mostly fallen onto the ground. She is stuck in this season in her mind ever since her Joining. She’s waiting, but for what?

A bright warmth as she walks out of the circle hand in hand with her brother, the mist falling a bit further away as they trade stories of very different lives. 

Short red hair and freckles, one of the few people who still make her excited to be in this world. They touch, and kiss, both knowing it will not last, even if they both survive this. They make sure it is that much more memorable, to remember fondly later on. 

The hot breath of the archdemon as it lays on the roof, injured as she is. The thought of her brother, waiting below, knowing nothing of the wardens’ sacrifice. She takes the sword, and lifts it up.

Roan Surana (Mahariel)

Surana, surana, a name he now recognizes more than his real name. A young boy gave it to spare his family, and the young man grew into it, becoming it.

The lingering touch of ice on his fingertips after he lets a spell fly, and the jolt of nervous energy he feels every time he wonders what the first enchanter would say about this- about that- about anything he does out here, free and away from the always-following stares of the templars. The burst of bravery that always follows.

The endless questions for his sister about the clan he barely remembers, in the hopes he can one day meet them and know them by heart, if not by memory.

The stinging of the needle as it draws the symbol of Elgar'nan on his face, just the top half, one night in the forest. It's not made by a clan's keeper, or even a hahren, but a dear friend, and that holds meaning enough to him.

The shaking hands as he accompanies the Warden Commander to Vigil’s Keep, still not a warden, but wanting to continue the good work his sister began. He’s left the circle behind, left his old life behind for his sister, and now she’s left him behind, where he will not follow.

A mirror, just like the one his sister described. He steps through, hand in a warm hand. Years later, the little boy that was meant to hold an old god is instead held in warm hands of a man no longer lost, within the crossroads.

Astralis Lavellan

Earthy tones and electricity mixed together, a spark of laughter as he's surprised in the middle of a spell. A touch of a hand to his, and then there are two books, two staves, two people practicing.

Idle wishes in the pauses of meetings, wishing he’d known more, earlier. But then he wouldn’t have what he does now. Is that selfish of him?

The bright shrieking giggles of a young girl, as she jumps into a puddle, soaking both her feet and the ones beside her. An exasperated but fond voice asks her, was that really necessary? She doesn’t answer, but jumps again, until her father picks her up, laughing as well.

A deep breath as the well whispers into the night, the elf kept awake by the bright green flares of his arm, the light coming through his eyelids, neither letting him relax to sleep. 

Another deeper breath as he faces the crowds, eyes open and a little smile on his face. He’s nervous, but he has to speak for the inquisition, they made him their leader and he must be a good one for them. He was raised for this. Not quite this, no, but close enough. He can do this.

A warm blanket on his shoulders as he dozes comfortably on the other’s chest, half-sitting on the couch, half sliding off it, but there’s a hand making sure he stays. The blanket doesn’t quite reach over them both, but that’s alright. Neither is cold.

Rissa Lavellan

Flowers, bright and strong-scented, surround the campsite. The evening sun shines warmly as the light wind blows on the flowers.

A slight disappointment as she nods at the keeper. Second. She returns to her studies, but returns the next day, determined and bright like before the decision.

Standing on a rock, gazing into the horizon with her staff in hand. With a little bounce, she hops down and takes off running, leaping over the water. Green energy flows around her palms, ready to bring her target back to safety.

Arros

A knife carves quietly, a bit unsteadily but cleanly enough, a shape of an animal into a piece of wood. There is a rare peace of mind, laying on his side on the grass, pausing to blow away the pieces of wood off the animal. 

An arrow is nocked into a decorated bow, nervousness bubbling to the surface and threatening to grow into hostility. He’s no hunter, but he practices nonetheless. The bow from his father, the skills from his mother. If nothing else is in his reach, he will hold onto those. 

A swaying field of wheat, by the side of a city. An impulse to stand at the side and just yell out at the top of the lungs. The relief that comes with it, restless energy used up.

A light voice telling a story, laying upside down with his feet draped over a log, comfortable. The warmth in his chest when familiar faces laugh when he does, and the little smile stays when someone else takes a turn, finally taking the spotlight off him. Brown eyes get lost for a moment to observe idly, but soon snap back to attention, excited by the story.

currently reading: i started sense and sensibility a while ago but i wanna find my library card 🤓 and see if i can find i’m thinking of ending things bc i think it would be a better read
