Language Resources 🎀
*that I currently use for studying Spanish. When I pick up studying Japanese again, I will make a list for that as well <3 I currently use a handful of resources for learning Spanish, and they've all proven very useful so far!
🩷 My Current Resources for Spanish
Busuu - hands down my favorite language learning app. So much better than Duolingo, in my opinion (especially for languages with a different alphabet/writing system). I bought the premium for a year, which will expire in Septmeber, but I'm debating renewing again because I love it so much.
LingQ - I like using this for reading in Spanish. It gives me different types of things to read about, and while I don't have premium, I do put all the words I don't know into flashcards on AnkiApp on my laptop and translate anything I don't know using SpanishDict.
SpanishDict - favorite translation/dictionary app. I know it has lessons you can use, tho I haven't tried it yet, but I really do love this app. It's super helpful when I'm making flashcards or writing random vocabulary notes.
Goodnotes - This is a general note-taking app, but I love it because it allows you to import and write on PDFs, and that's just perfect for me! I've downloaded free PDF short stories/children's stories in Spanish and made notes of words I don't know, and taken notes in the app too. Definitely my favorite notes app, ever.
Italki - I know this is a website, too, but I use the app. It lets you work with professional teachers/community tutors in your target language. You can have structured lessons or just use it for conversation practice. I did a trial lesson not too long ago and have an upcoming lesson booked out in about 5 days. You pay per lesson, so there is no subscription, and there are so many languages and teachers/tutors to choose from. I did a lot of research before choosing a teacher, and I'm very happy with my decision so far. Definitely useful if there's not native speakers near you or you're like me and not confident talking to people you know in your target language/their native language.
Quizlet/AnkiApp - I use AnkiApp more then quizlet, and the Anki I'm referring to is NOT the same way everyone else uses, but it's the flashcard app of preference at the moment. I tried the AnkiDroid app and hated it. But yeah, AnkiApp is useful for flashcards and I really like it. I have it on my Chromebook and my Ipad.
Netflix - I love watching shows in Spanish on Netflix so much. I am currently watching La Reina del Sur on it (used to watch that sporadically in the past at a friend's house) and plan on watching some other shows, including Elite.
Spotify - I enjoy listening to Spanish music and podcasts right now. The music is more of an entertaining/enjoyable fork of audio input, and the podcasts help me get a feel for speaking and pronunciation and I choose podcasts that speak on topics of interest tk help with vocabulary in those areas I'd like to be able to speak about.
Textbooks - I have 2 PDF textbooks, Gramatica de Uso del Español: A1-B2 and Gramatica de Uso del Español: B1-B2. I've heard these are great for learning Spanish (and they're both only written in Spanish, like there's no English in them) and plan on using them once I figure out how to take good and useful textbook notes! I definitely need to improve on my grammar.
Those are all my current Spanish resources! I'd definitely say my current level is like a high A1 right now, nearing A2, but I have just a little bit of work to do before I get there. These resources are definitely gonna help, tho!

I spent the first 37 years of my life in Israel — surrounded by Hebrew, living and breathing it, without even thinking twice.
Then I relocated.
Suddenly, I was speaking a second language (English) every day.
Suddenly, I understood in my bones what it feels like to reach for words that don’t come naturally.
To long for the comfort and ease of the language that feels like home.
To feel the ache of disconnection — not just from a place, but from a part of yourself.
That experience shaped how I teach Hebrew.
I don’t teach it like someone who’s standing on the other side of the ocean, handing you a list of rules.
I teach it as someone who knows what it’s like to crave clarity, connection, and confidence in a second language.
I know the longing many of you feel — to get closer to Hebrew, to Israel, to your roots, to your dreams of fluency, to something you’ve been carrying in your heart.
That’s why I’ve built better ways to teach Hebrew:
✨ Personal, because no two learners are the same.
✨ Clear, because you deserve a path that’s simple and step-by-step, not overwhelming.
✨ Connected, because this isn’t just about grammar — it’s about building a living, breathing bridge between your world and the language you love.
For me, teaching Hebrew isn’t just a job.
It’s a bridge I’m building — for you and for me.
A way to keep my own connection to Hebrew alive while helping you create yours, no matter where you are.
If you’ve been wanting to speak Hebrew but feel stuck, scattered, or unsure where to begin — I see you.
I know your frustration.
I know your longing.
And I’m here to help you cross that bridge.
Let’s make Hebrew something personal, clear, and truly yours 💙

2025 language goals
🇫🇷 French
I will be learning French passively this year. I'm at a B2 level, and I simply want to improve my speaking and listening skills. I'll work on reading and writing next year, or end of this year. I'll mainly be watching YouTube videos and series and listening to podcasts.
Improve my vocabulary on self-care, discussing books and movies, and world news. I plan to add more vocabulary topics as the year goes on, but for now, these are my main topics.
Have a 1-hour conversation effortlessly by the end of this year. I usually have 30-minute conversations on the weekend and it's not a problem but I wish to have longer conversations.
Find a French-speaking tutor from Paris with whom I can practice speaking. My current tutor is from Algeria, and I plan to continue practicing with them, but I would like another tutor, specifically from Paris.
Watch a new French series each month. I'm currently finishing a series right now and it's helped a lot.
🇰🇷 Korean
I haven't studied Korean in so long so I'm starting in February this year. I'm an A2 but I have some B1 vocabulary.
Learn Korean numbers - This is seriously a priority as numbers are super important.
Learn basic Korean vocabulary - I already know a lot of vocabulary but I am lacking some of the basics.
Learn time vocabulary - This is really important as this was the hardest thing for me.
Learn/review grammar points - I already know quite a bit but I need to learn more grammar. I'll be using an Excel I made for this.
Have a 30-minute conversation by the end of the year. Probably around September. I've already spoken Korean before but I was struggling with it because I didn't have time to do immersion regularly.
Learn common expressions used by native speakers.

4月4日2024年ー「木」
I’m writing this from my building’s laundry room floor. One person is taking up 6 washing machines…I haven’t done laundry in a week and a half….Anyways.
What I’ve Gotten Done:
Genki I Chpt 4 Practice
Anki review (L00 - L06)
WaniKani review
GenkiKani deck L03
Wrote down new vocab from NHK Easy News
Journaled in Japanese
What I Have Left To Do:
Nothing
I literally got 3 and a half hours of work done today, probably overcompensating for doing basically nothing yesterday. I’m glad I got so much done though.
Bonus: you can see my girlfriend’s binder in the background of the first picture; we were working in the uni library together.

Just had a thought about fluency in language learning:
I think one of the telltale signs that you're fluent in a language is, if you watch a video or listen to a podcast and you understand everything, but you don't remember, if it was in your target language or not

Current Study Split 🎀
I am currently studying Spanish and Korean, and while I want to spend more time on Spanish because I'm at the point of beginning to speak Spanish and am still an absolute beginner in Korean, my brain keeps trying to make me focus more on Korean because I'm having so much fun with it. So here is the way my week is broken up, with a little bit of insight into how I like to study for the languages.
Sunday - Spanish
Monday - Spanish
Tuesday - Spanish
Wednesday - Korean
Thursday - Korean
Friday - Korean
Saturday - Whichever I Want
My main ways of studying Spanish are:
Busuu
Listening to music
Actively listening to and studying podcasts
Actively watching and studying from movies/TV shows
Practicing flashcards + vocabulary
Italki lessons whenever I get the money
My main ways of studying Korean are:
Busuu
Learn Korean with Billy Go on YouTube
Passively listening to music
Passively watching kdramas
Practicing vocabulary
Practicing Hangul via writing + flashcards
Italki lessons when I have the money
*I want to start using Talk to Me in Korean, but I don't have the money for a subscription just yet. My italki teacher advised me to focus on Hangul and light vocab for now, given my (lack of) current skill in the language.
*My Spanish italki teacher gave me some good advice for studying using podcasts that I can't wait to try out. She said it'll be useful for our next lesson so I can come prepared with something to speak about. Not to sure how I feel about continuing lessons with her but I'll give it a couple more tries and see how it goes. I do like her, but I don't know if it'll be the out helpful with the way she runs our lessons.
I will start posting monthly goals for my languages starting in August! I think it'll help me guide my studies a bit and help me check my progress.
til next time lovelies 🩷

Publishers' Binding Thursday
Since it's the beginning of the semester we're sharing an educational book that will help you reach your Language Goals just like the fellow on the cover. Language Goals was written by Dr. Henry G. Paul, professor of the "teaching of English" at University of Illinois, and W.D. Miller, "Formerly Superintendent of Schools, Easthampton, Mass." I've shared several of this sort of book here and for most of them it's been difficult to find anything out about the authors, as is the case here. However, we do know that the publisher, Lyons & Carnahan, was a textbook publisher based in Chicago and published this book in 1931.
The book's cover features some tree or leaf (?) like designs in columns on either side of a man with his arms triumphantly raised atop a long staircase or pyramid. This book has some personal touches to it that we can only assume were added by the person whose name adorns the flyleaf: Russell Frank Engstrom. We also know Engstrom's address (2447 North 62nd Street, Wauwatosa, WI), home room (116) and English teacher (Miss Macdonald, Room 117). There is also a little doodle of a man labeled "Uncle Sam" and written on the foreedge is "R.E. L J.M." and "J.R. L D.W." I can only assume the Ls stand for "loves."
When we preserve books we sometimes also get to preserve some stories or memory of the people who owned them. In this case, the fact that Russell Engstrom of Wauwatosa loved somebody with the initials J.M. when he was in junior high in 1931 gives us the idea that maybe junior high has always been about crushes and who likes who.

March 2025 Language Goals Reflection
25.5 hours this month! I believe that's an all-time record!
Tumblr media
Anki
Do reviews at least 15 days (15/31)
Clear backlog on A2:01 and A2:02 [218 cards]
Keep up with S25 deck
So a decent month for Anki, although didn't forge ahead much on the A2 deck. I'm only about 70 cards behind on S25 but I do have a vocab quiz on Friday so that's why it gets a partial lol.
Immersion
Finish season 1 of Die Kaiserin [4.5 episodes]
Do something outside of class with deutschsprachige friends, either movie night or study session
Didn't even touch Die Kaiserin, but I've been watching other German stuff—mostly reality TV. The department started hosting Drag Race Germany watch parties, and my friends and I are starting Too Hot to Handle season 2.
So this was a pretty good month, considering I didn't touch the language for all of spring break. A mixed bag in class: bombed a vocab quiz on stupid errors (mixed up the preterite and perfect multiple times, guh) but the last few readings we've done have gone really well.
