Judging by the chorusing round of sighs and disappointed head shakes from the kids, that was definitely not the right thing to say. 

"We've nearly defeated Kyuss," Mike shouted, throwing his hands in the air and shooting Steve a severe glare. 

"But all of you are passed out or paralyzed!" Steve shot back, gesturing around the table at the rest of the figurines which were lying on their backs. 

"Yeah, but you're a tank! You could take out the monster with one more blow. Now we're going to have to do it all over again.” 

But….wasn’t that the whole point? Doing this over and over again? Steve shot a helpless look at Eddie who just gave him his DM witchy grin and spread his hands open wide. 

“You can change your mind, Sir Steven,” Eddie offered, “But be warned Kyuss is hungry for flesh,” 

Steve hesitated, looking down and around the map. 

“No…I don’t think I’m gonna.”

"God, you're so stupid sometimes, Steve," Dustin groaned, letting his head fall onto the table with a soft thunk as the rest of the party started yelling. Steve forced himself to smile, his cheeks flushing as his stomach did an uncomfortable flip flop. It was loud, it was hot, and Steve just wanted to go home. 

"Stop it.”

Eddie voice cut through the rest of them. It wasn’t like he had spoken particularly loud, it was his tone. Severe, and brimming with uncharacteristic rage. Enough to make all of them quiet down and look at Eddie with wide eyes. Steve’s anxiety got even worse, and he was sure that Eddie was about to start yelling at him. Steve let his eyes slip down, shame making all the bones in his body ache. 

"I'm sure all of you were strategic geniuses the first time you played, right? You never stumbled or needed a second to think about the right move to make?” Eddie practically snarled, throwing dirty looks at every one of the kids. Steve sucked in a breath and dared a glance up, not quite believing what he was seeing. 

Eddie was defending him. Him. Steve. And he wasn’t done yet

“You all moan and grumble and fucking whine about how 'Steve never plays DnD with us', 'Steve won't even give it a chance', ‘He would see if he just played once’” Eddie said, raising his voice to a high pitched nasally yowl, “Of course he doesn't want to give it a chance, you are all being jerks.”

“Steve can handle it,” Max said with a roll of her eyes. 

“Yeah he can,” Eddie agreed easily, sparing a quick glance over toward Steve, “but that doesn’t mean he should have to. Especially not from you all. You little nerds have never had to deal with this, because you’re always ahead of the rest, but take it from the guy who failed his senior year twice- Being called stupid your whole life hurts .”

Eddie let the final word ring out, not bothering to hide the pain that lived in those words. Steve had never really considered that Eddie might’ve heard the same things he did, cause Eddie was the smartest person Steve knew besides Dustin and maybe Will. 

“From now on anyone calling anyone else stupid is getting 10 HP knocked off of their stats. Permanently. I don't want to hear that word. Got it?”

The kids all nodded, guilt weighing down their shoulders and lowering the mood. One by one they quietly apologized to Steve, Eddie nodding in satisfaction as they did. 

Steve didn’t really know what to think.  Eddie turned towards him, and Steve stiffened up, both worried and intrigued. 

“You can roll to run away. That's actually probably the smartest thing you could do here, seeing as you're pretty much the only member of the party left standing.” Eddie said softly, giving Steve a gentle smile, “Still wanna do it?”

Steve nodded, ready to fight this battle another day.

Vax: really the sadboy narrative for Liam has always been stupid but it's egregiously bad that it started with Vax, who is like, sad for maybe a fifth of the episodes and largely because Liam O'Brien's actual mother was dying, like, with all due respect what the actual fuck, fandom.

Vex: I am the founding and probably only member of the "Vex is my favorite character and also I am 100% cool with Colville's depiction of her." The generosity she shows even very early on in C1 is still a generosity borne of some degree of security - they have a keep by then - and I also just don't think you have to like a character to write them fairly. Granted it's been a minute since I read early VMO but nothing stood out to me as out of line with my understanding of Vex.

Pike: repeating myself once again but I like Pike a lot and wish we could have seen more, but because we didn't, people who say she's their favorite in C1 do tend to turn me off in that I feel they're looking for a relatively flat and widely praised character to project onto rather than a character who goes through more messy development.

Grog: I think he's often underestimated and I was guilty of doing so myself, to be honest, until I saw Travis play more and until I personally got better at D&D. Also I still maintain that playing INT 6 sensitively and well is infinitely harder than playing INT 16, all things considered, and this is yet another reason why people should play high INT more often.

Scanlan: Also underestimated; I do understand being turned off by the whole extremely horny playboy thing but as I've said before Bard's Lament is a major litmus test for me: if you think Scanlan is completely at fault here, you are wrong, and if you think he's not partially at fault, you are also wrong.

Tary: I genuinely love him and think he's a great character and one of Sam's best, but while his character arc is strong the Taryon Darrington Arc of the VM Campaign, through no fault of his own (and partly bc I personally think D&D Hell, especially pre-Descent Into Avernus publication, is kind of boring), is one of the weakest parts of the campaign because it's kind of a grab bag of loose ends. With that said I would happily watch more Darrington Brigade-one shots.

Percy: Percy is also generally a litmus test in that it's like. Is he a good person? Eventually I believe he becomes one, and even before that I think he's very sympathetic and deeply traumatized and like, 24, so I get it, but also, who the fuck cares. This ties into the Essek and the Ashton opinions and all kinds of other stuff but why are people so invested in fucking absolving their blorbo of all sins? I want someone who's lived enough of a life to have done some heinous shit because that's fun and interesting and it's pretend and also because then they can have a rewarding character arc by either working towards redemption or coming to terms with who they are or spiraling into tragedy.

Keyleth: I like Keyleth a lot but I am, as this post indicates, far more sympathetic to Vex, and so while I do think Keyleth is a fairly good person she is also extremely sheltered and naive and terrified of doing the wrong thing and I would have, like Vex, wanted to scream at her half the time were I just a random NPC wandering about the campaign. On the other hand C3-era Keyleth? fantastic no notes she has grown up in such an interesting way.

Tiberius: I think we, and by we I mean people capable of separating the art from the artist, can recognize that his concept actually fucking slapped and unfortunately he was played by someone who absolutely sucked in a myriad of ways. I would love to see the alternate universe in which the same general concept (prodigy sorcerer from Draconia who is full of themself) had to face not just the destruction of their civilization but the realization that they were taking advantage of the Ravenites and while they did not deserve to be killed by Vorugal, had done nothing to justify aid from those they had subjugated either. Like, the alternate world in which one of the current cast members or like, a close friend of the main cast (Ashly, Erika, Mary Elizabeth) played this is one I'd love to see.

Chetney is fucking hilarious, I love him

I love that FCG can just…hold liquids without any real consequence (at least for now, idk). Like Liam put it: “last campaign you had a flask, now you ARE the flask”. Also, he’s just super sweet I love him. Idk how Sam went from Absolute Bastard to Traumatized Mother to Best Robot in the span of 3 campaigns, but I love all of his characters the same (for their own reasons)

I am very quickly becoming REALLY fond of Dorian. I don’t wanna jump to conclusions, but…I’m fairly certain he’s going to be one of my faves, if not my blorbo of the campaign. He’s just a funky little guy, I love him.

Laudna intrigues me, with her ties to Whitestone and the Briarwoods. I know that all will be expanded upon fairly soon, but still.

I like Ashton, he’s cool

Fearne is so unhinged I love her. She just deadass asks people “yo, can I have this?” With like the sweetest smile, and if they say no, she usually tries to steal it anyway. She’s great.

Still no real opinion on Imogen and Orym. They’re not bad characters, but I’m fairly certain that their characters don’t get to really shine until later on. For right now, they’re just kinda…there.

You know, I'm actually not normal about how much I love Orym of the Air Ashari (and Liam of the motherf*cking O'Brien but that's beside the point). I think it's something to do with the fact that, in theory, he's just... a guy. A little guy at that. He's the most normal looking out of this whole nightmare group of robots, dead ladies and werewolves, but he's still one of the more (if not the most) compelling characters on the table and the ammount of just straight up flavor Liam has put into this tiny dude is honestly insane.

And the deeper we get into it the more I love him, because he isn't just an ingenious little battle Master with some of the coolest action moments I've ever seen in D&D like trapping the giant monster with the magical rope (R.I.P) and battle ramming that guy off the motorcycle with his own body, he also sleeps curled up between a blue air genasi and a giant goat lady like a puppy, he piggybacks off Fearne's shoulders and tells her excitedly about their race before immediately passing out like a toddler that had too much sugar, he calls Ashton "Ash" and jumps on his shoulder to see better over all the other people, he calls dorian late at night just to tell him he's missed (and to listen to his voice again ofc, I'm watching you, Liam), he has a heartbreaking story that he literally carries around on his sleeve, and still he cares so deeply and is so willing to still love and protect other people it's impossible not to see in everything he does, and it's... UGH. I have no more words. Liam has me by the throat once again with another angsty blorbo and I'm not even mad.

after hours of searching i was able to watch andy in Accused and ohhhh my god. my sick little blorbo i want him so bad

YES. Liam Black is one of my favorite Andy characters! He's so complex and flawed, and, while his actions are horrible, there's such a humanness to him that I can't help but sympathize with (to a degree). You can just see how miserably lonely and starved for love and connection he is, and how it feeds into his desperation. The writing for the episode was already fantastic at portraying that, but Andy's performance elevated it to a whole different level! (Because he's amazing.)

Also, and most importantly, HE'S STUPIDLY HOT WTF! 😭😵‍💫 Andy pouting and yearning is just 🤌

So…several…weeks ago…now, I was talking with a friend (@user-needs-new-hyperfixation) about creating characters. Because while she wants to try original fiction, all her ideas for characters start feeling too close to her Favorite Blorbos, and that’s not what she wants from original fiction characters.

And I get that. But if you can’t get your blorbos out of your head but you want to write an OC, here’s what you do:

Make a few intentional choices to take them away from that character. Oh, I know that sounds like it wouldn’t work. I promise you it can and does. You just gotta commit.

Here’s an example. The example I used with Hyper was Liam, but he’s sort of niche, so I wanted to think of a more Popular character to use as an example that still had the depth I needed to explore this.

(Very sorry to everyone who wants the Liam example. You can request it if you want, I guess)

I’ve settled on Dean Winchester. Very sorry about this. But he’s a character from a very well-known and well-watched show and frankly he’s around for long enough to have a lot going on with him.

Dean Winchester is, among other things, a very protective family man, a silly geek who wasn’t very academic in school and makes corny jokes, a sex-motivated man, a nomad, a Mama’s Boy, a devoted mechanic, a guy trying maybe a little too hard to espouse the 80s vibe.

And if you change just one of those things, his whole character can shift. Let’s take one that gets changed a lot in fanfic for Supernatural: Dean is no longer nomadic. He lives somewhere reliably and regularly.

If you’ve seen the show (I’m very sorry), you know that Dean is deeply protective of his car. But he’s protective of his car because it’s the closest thing to a home he’s ever had. If you actually give him a home and make him a kid who didn’t have to move every week or so growing up, he has a whole community, neighborhood, and city to project all that protective obsession onto.

Which means: he's not obsessed with his car. Or any car. He never learned how to to put it back together over and over and isn't a mechanic or a restoration specialist. And if he doesn’t want to preserve that car and his home so bad, maybe he’s not obsessed with classic rock and leather jackets and outdated references, either.

(And once you’ve done that with him, very few people would probably even mistake them, lol)

And maybe that protective nature led him to becoming a cop. And maybe once he realized they don’t really Protect or Serve, he becomes deeply disillusioned by them entirely. Canon Dean has problems with the cops, too, but that’s because he’s an actual criminal, not because he’s just disillusioned about what they’re doing (the series is really pretty pro-cop with characters like Jodie).

And if our “Dean” is no longer a drifter, then he’s not just going to leave when he’s solved one problem extremely messily. He’s going to have to stick around, attend school board meetings or something. Bail protesters out of jail, IDK.

And once you’ve gotten to that point, you might have a Mama’s Boy who loves his family too much and makes silly jokes while playing silly games with his friends, but you don’t really have Dean Winchester. You have your fun blorbo vibes, and you have some of your favorite traits about them. But the longer you write this character on this entirely new path and give them new experiences and see them react in ways Dean never would…

Well, now you have an OC.

You’re probably going to have to go back to the beginning and edit the first part of the character to keep them in character with what you realize about them later. But that’s honestly not a big deal and you’ll probably have to do that no matter how you write it anyway.

When Captain Marvel's in the watchtower, Billy's usually fronting with Marvel and Solomon being co-conscious (in front or near front but just vibing).

Cap's switched in front of League members before. Billy regularly steps back and passes the mic to Solomon whenever someone asks about an old ass magical artifact or seeks counsel. People assume that's the Wisdom of Solomon (the power) kicking in and they're not wrong.

Solomon really does just step up, dip into the deep ass well of limited omniscience that is the Wisdom, and start info dumping. It's in these moments that Cap seems older, wise beyond his years, and laser focused. His speech patterns shift, as does his posture, and if whoever asked the question wasn't currently furiously taking notes they'd probably start to think on it.

Billy usually dips from front entirely if Solomon starts going on for longer than six minutes. He's not needed and he trusts Solomon to yoink him to front if anything less dry happens. It's part of his job after all.

But you're asking for angst.

There are several things that could trigger Billy to front or co-con. Let's go from positive to neutral to negative.

[+] If someone's talking about archaeology or really old civilizations or anything in those veins he'll head to front to listen. A lot of what Liam has to say about their parents is centered around their jobs and the stories they'd tell them from work, so Billy has a lot of positive associations there.

[+] If tigers come up in conversation Billy will peak into front to check out what's going on. He fucking loves tigers (as does Liam) and will never miss an opportunity to talk about them.

[o] If Billy hears his name he'll start heading to front from wherever he was, but unless there's urgency behind it or his name comes up a lot he's not gonna rush. Exception is if they were in big form when he dipped, then he books.

[o] If someone who's fronting says Shazam either out loud or internally, Billy and Marvel will basically fucking teleport with how fast they try to get to front. If someone else says Shazam that also gets them there quick, but not as fast.

[-] Billy's almost always fronting in small form but if he's not (or if he's not paying attention) and you touch the small form he's gonna show up real quick. He's going to bristle and he's gonna try to get you to stop making contact and if you refuse to then things are gonna get ugly.

[-] Doesn't matter what fucking form he's in or who's fronting, if Billy perceives someone saying William in a /neg tone to address him he's going to throw hands. Hercules usually isn't far behind whenever Billy gets pissed off but in this case he might not step in. You called this upon yourself.

These are the ones I've thought of so far. More will probably come up as I keep spinning this blorbo in my brain. Already 100% possible one of the negatives happens and from that point the angst writes itself.

I'd like to say I am and will never be good at naming things, my new pokemon file is proof of that.

I'm also curious about the harder names like Calpernia, which is latin and not as popular or well used as the alternative Calpurnia which is Julius's wife. But tbh I dont wanna call male Calpernia, Julius nor Caesar.

No Upside Down AU where Steve still acquires his seven little nuggets.

El is the daughter of a cult leader (Brenner) who runs away the night Will gets taken by the cult. They all help to rescue Will ala season one and Steve still gets his shit kicked in by Jonathan- Concussion #1

Season two Billy is billy so Steve gets his second concussion protecting the kids from him. After the first one he had some tinnitus he was struggling with, but after this one he's officially deaf in one ear and HOH in the other.

Season three there's no Russians just a fire in the mall. Robin and him get close during their time working at scoops ahoy together, and she loves to learn languages so she starts to learn sign and teach him (Autistic Robin whose special interest is languages no I will not change my mind) and so after he saves her and the kids from the fire and is even more HOH in his one good ear, he pretty much sticks just to sign when he can.

The kids are the kids and they love him and they take it as a challenge to learn sign to be just as good at it if not better than Steve is at his own language. Most people do not realize that Steve is Deaf/HoH because he was never dethroned he just became very isolated past sophomore year and everyone thought that he was doing a too cool for school above it all type thing.

I will do these for my OC Erim Lavellan (DA:I) who is my most favorite blorbo, and for my latest OC Aubrey Till (Shoresy) who I haven't actually introduced yet but is living in my brain rent free.

4 do they wear their hair down when they sleep, or tied up / braided?

Erim: He's got pretty short hair so he sleeps with it as is. But a bonus HC is that when he's on long mission for the Inquisition his hair grows out a bit longer and Liam loves to run his fingers through it. But it irritates Erim when it's long. It tickles his ears and feels hot.

Aubrey: When she has the time, mostly when she's on her own, she'll loosely braid it before bed. Once she and Hitch are an item, he learns how to do it for her and will braid her hair while they listen to tunes in the evening.

14 do they stay up too late? do they like staying up?

Erim: Absolutely not, unless he needs to. Erim loves sleep. And he's an early riser. He never stays up much past dark if he's got any say in it. That said for a time after loosing Liam in the Conclave he didn't get much sleep at all and would spend his nights reading the musty books from Skyhold's library.

Aubrey: Most definitely. She finds the night a freeing quite landscape perfect for unwinding and letting off steam. Sometimes she'll stay out at the bar/club with her friends, others she's at home for some much needed r&r, and every so often she's out late at the hanger working on her plane.

20 what do they hate being teased about? are they teased often?

Erim: when he blushes his ears turn bright red. Liam often teases him for it. Lovingly, of course. But Erim still hates it.

Aubrey: it's fairly common for the men she works with to point out that she's a female pilot and give her crap for it in a teasing joking manner. She doesn't take it well which has lost her some jobs in the past. But good riddance to them. There's always more work somewhere else.

its funny cause i give my parents updates on this tournament, and the only frame of reference they have is the bands/people i'm into generally. (my mum says "well, you should be glad i don't know who you're talking about because that would mean i'm trying to be hip and cool" lmao). anyways

i think its soooo funny because like. my parents obviously know who oasis is. i have a poster i got from knebworth 22 in my room (place of pride for real), and i've played them in my care a LOT. my mum has a very vague idea of who HIM is because i've got a shirt for them (heart pentagram is such a sick design and i will die on this hill). i showed the two of them to my mum and she was like "obviously liam. the other one looks too much like a girl." and on one hand it was like "you don't understand." but on the other hand, validation. cause like. yeah. liam's gorgeous obviously. but then like. i showed her other picture of ville valo cause i totally voted for him (i'm so sorry liam but how could i not) and she GOT IT.

anyways, dad's upset mariah carey won because "she sings that hideous christmas song and anyone is better than her" and also, he's of the opinion that i should have immediately wanted to vote keanu reeves instead of holding out until i knew who he was up against (still not over liam vs. ville valo the ultimate betrayal and sadness lol)

dad's opinion is also that axl rose should win the next round solely based on the fact that he knows who he is, but really, what does he know, cause he made fun of me rooting for jarvis with my entire being.

idk where i'm going with this sorry. i love this tournament, and hilariously i'm more invested in this than the original bracket, but that's cause my most beloved albums got eliminated soooooo quickly (seeing the same in the 2000s bracket and i tell myself that my taste is just more niche rather than bad)

also, i agree with the anon that said than radiohead man aged real nice where as damon didn't. given, i last saw him with a mullet, and thought he aged like spoilt milk, but radiohead man (remembered his name Thom! aged real nice)

also, as much as creep is like the stereotypical radiohead song and kinda considered overplayed, it UNDERSTANDS ME and also me as a teen. props to him. idk if i can bring myself to vote for him though (not cause he's kinda weird looking - odd looking people are HOT ok) but cause i had a devestating crush on a guy who was obessed with radiohead and he literally told me that i give off "emotionally unavailable vibes and its cool to make friends with someone so similar to me" and it ruined me emotionally for a good like 5 months)

also, props to oasis for having supersonic as one of their top songs, cause hell yeah Give Me Gin and Tonic! literally my drink of choice lmaooooo
