Magnolia of Beleriand and Valinor

Continuing my flower world building from last year where I do flower related world building! More in the spring flower game tag! This was a request from last year from @welcomingdisaster

I've gotten through enough of last year's that I am opening requests again! I'll probably continue to do these even after spring officially ends here :)

The magnolia genus contains hundreds of species, including both evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs.

Magnolia trees can be found in Middle Earth including Beleriand, and in Valinor. About a hundred species including hybrids, created both intentionally and through pollination are represented

Star magnolia is the most widely cultivated magnolia in Valinor. It appears in Vanyarin art, especially painting and textile art such as tapestries.

Willow leaf magnolia, tulip magnolia, lilytree, and campbell's magnolia and about twenty other species can also be found in Valinor as can certain hybrids

Noldorin weddings in Valinor especially around Tirion often are held under the shade of magnolia trees; this tradition can be traced back to Middle Earth, before the Noldor journeyed to Valinor.

Cucumber trees (not related to the cucumber vegetable but a species of magnolia tree) are the most common magnolia species in Beleriand, mostly found in the western regions around Nargothrond.

Umbrella magnolias grow south of Doriath and around the western reaches of the Andram. Their leaves are often etched in constructing stone by the Sindar and are sometimes used in temporary shelters by the marchwardens of Doriath.

Whitebark magnolia grows in the southernmost reaches of Beleriand, including in the forest between rivers. The leaves are collected by Avarin elves and used for culinary purposes including to wrap meat and other vegetables for cooking

Bull bay is the most common magnolia species in the warmer regions of Middle Earth beyond Beleriand. It's beloved for its lemongrass scented flowers and later cultivated in gardens by both humans and elves.

Xenophilius's name comes from two Greek words: Xenos "strange" and -Phile "love” giving the meaning of one who loves the strange Pandora means all gifts, and there is still the legend of Pandora’s box

Orchidwhisker - A Jumpclan Warrior

A small trans she-cat, with warm, ruddy pointed fur, a speckled nose, and hazel eyes. Opalclaw's daughter, Lilytree's mate, and Cloudpaw's mentor. Considered abnormally small for Jumpclan, she is often mistaken by other clan cats as an apprentice. Cloudpaw is already larger than her at 8 moons.

She loves to swim, and finds herself jealous of Sneezeclan's access to water, but not of Sneezeclan's attitude. She has trouble imagining the kind of cat she would be if she grew up as a Sneezeclan cat, all lazy and far too open and trusting of strangers.

At 19 moons old, she is somewhat overwhelmed with being a parent and mentor so soon after becoming a warrior, but she's also incredibly proud. She loves her mate and their beautiful, strong kits, and feels fiercely protective over them in a way she never expected.

Also known by a range of synonyms, which by the look of them were often attempts by the taxonomist to name this beautiful ornamental after people they knew.

Also known as the lilytree and in pinyin as yùlánhuā ('jade orchid/lily').

Native to central and eastern China, and cultivated in Chinese Buddhist temple gardens since at least 600 AD. A symbol of purity during the Tang dynasty and planted in the grounds of the emperor's palace. Also the official city flower of Shanghai.

Magnolias are almost all beetle-pollinated, and are also notable for the extreme age of the family compared to other flowering plants - around 100 million years.

i will have an essay on this but hayato's older sister.... miss yukihane yulan... named after the yulan magnolia/lilytree... whose early blooms look like tiny birds... she took arti's trial when yato was young and barely in school. she did not make it back. as a human, anyway.

Flintshade - A Jumpclan Warrior

A light brown medium-furred tabby with a cream chest and paws. 52 moons old. Rabbitlilac's littermate, Fleetfur's mate, and the father of Lilytree and Duskwhisker.

Flintshade is often viewed as his mate's opposite. Fleetfur is energetic, social, and known for her mentoring skills, while Flintshade is calm, prefers to interact with a few close friends and family, and is a well-rounded warrior with no particular strength.

Currently apprenticing his niece, Lowpaw.
