《Keep On》 - but with the Terrans!

This is a recreation of Digimon Adventure's ending scene with Earthspark characters :)

As a cross-fandom fan I've wanted to do this for a good while and eventually started working on the project in December, 2024. While it's not perfect and a lot of pieces are still missing, I decided that it's good enough for now and it's time to just post it. Also, this is actually for an International Children's Day (June 1) Chinese fandom event.

The first sequence is just the main character's silly faces, which is the most fun part to draw! And they already look adorable even without the rest of the video or any music.

I also need to create the flipping effects, which I initially attempted to do with Figma but realized that flipping 8 images at once overloads the tool and makes its animation laggy. I need them to all flip in sync, so this part is actually done with a Python script.

Compared to the OG video, the middle row is missing. I initially planned to draw the human Maltos but unfortunately ran out of time.

The second sequence provides an overview of 1) locations in the show, 2) side characters of the show, 3) iconic items that belong to the main characters.

For the locations, I took screenshots and edited them into having anime vibes:

Also had to distort the side characters' images so they follow a tilted route. The distortion part is also done with a Python script.

00:51 - 1:17 Roll out!

In the OG video this part is the main characters rolling out with their Digimon partners. For the Terrans, of course they will be rolling out with their mentor-ish counterparts. (I'm so sorry that Bumblebee wasn't included. You are the best mentor. But like, you are the shared mentor so it's kind hard to point to one Terran and declare you their specific mentor.)

At this point you probably already realized that the only characters that I do not run out of time for are the Terrans. And yeh, once again I run out of time for the Mentors and had to use low resolution stock images, screenshots, and even very inaccurate toy images.

I struggled to decide whether Starscream should stand by Hashtag or Spitfire, but Spitfire really doesn't have anyone besides Starscream so it had to be this way, which is again pretty cursed.

Turns out I do run out of time even for the Terrans! I was initially planning to draw the "everyone running towards the silver lining" scene but kinda suck at drawing animation. So have some Terrans dancing.

1:31 - 1:42

Hesitated between drawing "Terratronus getting armored up, each armor piece representing one Terrans" - which would be a perfect way to represent the ending of S3! But it'll probably look weird with a horizontal frame so I eventually just drew a traditional family photo.

episode four: date with bachelor number four

memories of last episode replay in your head causing you to smile at the thought. jay’s beautiful song, the delicious food, and jay’s unwavering attention that just drew you into him. there’s no such thing as perfect but to you, that date was perfect. it was all you could talk about for the last few days besides the fact that whoever the next guys are, their dates better blow your mind because jay was currently in first place by a great margin. 

when the next filming day eventually arrived, you and your style team spent a good chunk of time while you were getting ready just giggling and talking about your first date. they were telling you about how giddy it made them feel watching it back and how everyone on the internet had already started to root for you and jay to be endgame. they even went as far as to show you the hashtag viewers trended called “SingForMeJay”, “YNPrettyLikeASong” and “YNJayMrandMrsRight”. 

you laughed at the idea of those hashtags because they were somewhat long for a tag and you weren’t even sure if jay could be the one based off of one date. of course the date was better than you could’ve expected and it set a benchmark moving forward for the rest of the dates; but you couldn’t tell for sure if jay is mr. right just based on that. 

but he was sure on his way to earn that title. 

your outfit for today was pretty simple but cute. the stylists didn’t give you any hints on what your date was going to be but all they said was that the outfit they styled for you had to be comfortable for the activities this date would entail. you were nervous that the date would involve some physical activity because of that comment but considering your outfit didn’t look like activewear, you ruled that out fairly quickly. 

the outfit for today’s date consisted of baggy jeans, a comfy blue zip up hoodie and a crop top underneath. it was pretty sunny today but there was a consistent breeze so you made sure to keep the hoodie zipped up so you wouldn’t get chilly. 

and just like before, you’re driven to the location of the date. the car you were riding in had the windows covered so you couldn’t see where you were and once the car came to a halt, the PA blindfolds you just like last time. 

for some reason, you were way more nervous today than the last date. you thought it would get easier since you kind of got the first date jitters away, but because this date was completely different from the last; your mind wandered to all of the things that could go wrong. 

what if you trip and fall? 

what if the bachelor doesn’t like your outfit? 

what if the two of you don’t mix well? 

“alright, yn. ready?” the PA asks and you just nod, her hand grabbing yours as she carefully guides you out of the car and onto the filming spot. you could hear plenty of things going on around you, people talking, large machinery you assumed, and the overall sound of large groups of people. you couldn’t put your finger on it but you felt like it was at the tip of your tongue, you just couldn’t fully decipher where you were. 

on the count of three, you’re instructed to take off your blindfold and turn around, to which you did and are met with one of your favorite places. the amusement park, specifically the sanrio amusement park. this place held a lot of fond memories for you because it was not only the place you and your friends would often frequent but this was where you went on your first date with your most recent ex. 

sure, the two of you have broken up and are probably finding new people– but you held onto the good memories of that relationship even if it sometimes left a bitter taste in your mouth when you reminsce on the closing days of your relationship. the tension between you and your ex as you both try to avoid the inevitable. you two just weren’t on the same page anymore and that’s okay. 

“are you excited?” the producer asks from behind the camera and you nod, telling him that you love amusement parks so this date was already going well for you. “alright, today you’re going on a date with bachelor number four, he’s waiting for you at the entry gate so go ahead and find him, ok?” you’re told and with that, you make your way over to the gate with no help. 

it was like you knew this place like the back of your hand. 

soon enough, a person standing all by himself with a large mymelody plushie covering him comes into your vision. he’s standing in the middle of the gate and the sight alone makes you smile. it was cute that he had gotten you the abnormally large plushie but the fact that he was hiding behind it made him so much cuter. 

you were excited to meet him, all of the nerves already leaving your body as you arrived at the familiar and favorite location, but the image of the boy in front of you helped seize it fullty. “hi, are you my date?” you ask as you come to a halt in front of him. the excitement soon leaves your body and nerves quickly return when he moves the plushie away to reveal himself. 

jake, your ex-boyfriend. 

both of your faces mirror one another, wide eyed and mouth ajar at the unexpected reunion between the two of you. neither of you couldve expected to see each other, especially not in these circumstances so shock was an understatement. you felt almost blindsided? there was no way production knew that jake was your ex and no way for jake to have known you were going to be on the show so although you didn’t want to call it merely a coincidence, there was no other explanation. 

“um, can we cut?” you ask and the team around you just exchange awkward glances with one another, not doing anything as the producer looks at you with a puzzle expression. “i said cut!” frustration in your voice as you walk away, heading to where they had dropped you off. everyone on the production crew halt filming, a single cameraman following you as you walk away while the producer tells everyone to reset and hold places for filming to start again while they try to figure out what happened with you. 

“can you give me a minute, please?” you ask the cameraman and he reluctantly stops filming, at some point he was a bit nervous to stop because he didn’t want to risk his job but the troubled expression on your face prompted him to comfort you. “hey, is everything ok?” he asks, a sniffle coming from you in response, choosing to stay silent because you didn’t know how you even felt at this moment. 

“you’re clearly going through something, just tell me; it’ll make you feel better.” he offers once more and so you take his kindness and tell him what’s wrong. 

“that guy- the bachelor for this week; he’s my ex.” you explain and his face softens, like he completely understands the root of your behavior, no need for further explanation. “i didn’t think i’d see him but it’s been so long– i wasn’t ready for any of that..” you continue.

“so, this is it? you’re just going to walk away because you’re scared?” jake says, running his hands through his hair with a huff of frustration. the two of you originally met up to just “talk” but this talk has turned into a 2 hour long conversation, talking in circles and unable to arrive at a conclusion about your relationship. you loved jake and jake loved you but he wanted something you weren’t ready for. jake wanted to settle down, start a family, and build a life together but you were so young. 

you wanted to have a life with jake so badly but would it be at the cost of your youth? the two of you still had so much to live for, so much to learn and to see and to experience. you loved jake, but you loved yourself too much to deprive yourself from not being able to experience all the world had to offer. 

“i’m not afraid– i’ve never been afraid. jake i tell you this all the time, the one thing i value most in my life is my freedom, and i’m not saying that being with you will take that away but… 

right now i’m going to choose my freedom because it’s the one thing i know i will always have no matter what and i think if i were to settle down right now, my freedom would be an option opposed to the noptio.” and with that, you told jake goodbye, walking away from your boyfri- now ex-boyfriend, tears running from your eyes while jake watched your figure get smaller and smaller as you walked further and further away from him. 

the life he thought he had planned out with you failing before it even started. 

“for what it’s worth, your freedom should never be up for debate when finding someone to love you. your freedom should be something he helps you embrace, not something he takes away from you.” you give the cameraman a thankful glance partnered with a smile. 

filming resumes just minutes after your peptalk with the cameraman, a sense of comfort that only a stranger who knows nothing about you can provide because he was in no position to judge you; but instead to choose kindness. 

you apologize to all of the staff and crew, sending an apologetic gaze to the producer who simply just waves it off and tells the crew to begin filming at his countdown. “are you ok?” jake asks and you just nod, tidying yourself and putting on your best fake smile for the cameras. 

you and jake try your best to reenact the initial meeting, big and bright smiles on your faces in comparison to the first time where you both mirrored your shocked expressions. “hi, i’m jake.” he says, offering you the giant plushie in his arms to which you slowly accept before thanking him and introducing yourselves. you aren’t sure how your chemistry was going to read to viewers through a screen but you were going to try your best to give this date the benefit of the doubt. 

sure there was still some resentment between the two of you but if jake was willing to try; so will you. 

the date goes on, jake taking you to your favorite spots of the whole amusement park, your usual routine since your very first date. it made you laugh a bit knowing that he chose this as the first date because it was just like your very first one all those years ago. he took you to bumper cars, to which he always drove because he knew you were a bit scared to drive the bumper cars. 

then he brought you to several carnival game tents where he won you several sanrio plushies because he knew how to beat the riggory behind the games, a triumphant and proud smile on his face each time he won another prize and an even bigger smile when he’d see how happy you got that he won you something. 

just like old times, you dragged jake to a few rollercoasters that you were excited to ride and knew he’d be scared of. that was always the dynamic between the two of you when it came to rollercoasters; you’d tease jake for being scared and he’d try to show you he wasn’t but he’d end up clutching onto you with his eyes closed until you’d pat him on the heqad to let him know it was over. 

much like how you were now as the rollercoaster came to a halt, jake had his eyes shut while he clung onto you, comfort washing over him knowing that you’re by his side. something that he’s missed for a long time. 

“okay, no more rides. please.” jake says, dramatically clutching his chest like he just got done fighting for his life when the ride lasted less than 3 minutes and was the slowest of them all. “stop being a drama queen, come on!” you say with a chuckle, grabbing jake by his hand and dragging him to the next ride. your hand in his caught jake off guard, but he didn’t oppose. he did always think that your hand fit in his the best, like it was meant to fit into his as if it was molded by a sculptor. 

“last one, i promise.” you say as the two of you arrive at the giant ferris wheel, hello kitty’s face in the center of the large circle. the sun had gone down by now and the anxiety from the beginning was long gone, the two of you falling into your usual routine before you broke up. like no time has passed and this was merely another date the two of you had planned. the bitterness of reality yet to come back as neither of you choose not to focus on the fact that you are no longer together, haven’t been for awhile, and this was all for a tv show. 

when your carriage on the ferris wheel arrives, jake helps you on first and follows you after, a slight wavering in his expression as he steps onto the suspended cage. “it’ll be okay, jake.” you reassure him. thankfully the camera crew couldn’t follow you because there were only two per carriage so they followed behind. 

“was there a reason you wanted to go on here so bad? what if we fall?” jake says, slightly peering over and taking a gander at the height that you were now at and instantly leaning back when he sees how high up you were. 

“aside from seeing you all scared like this?” you ask, a teasing gaze. jake just pouting at you in response, “i wanted a chance to talk to you without having the cameras in our face.” you explain and jake gives you a nod in acknowledgement. 

“i know it;s been a while since we last saw each other and i know we didn’t necessarily end on the best terms but– i hope you’re well, jake. 

i never meant to hurt you and i’m sorry i chose myself but i did love you. i loved you so much.” you confessed, jake’s hand flying to your face as he softly wipes away your tears with his thumb. you grab onto his hand and melt into his touch, a type of longing you didn’t realize you had been yearning for until it was brought back to you. 

“you have nothing to apologize for. i just want you to know that i’ll never hold it against you to choose your happiness and freedom, i just wish i could’ve been the one to give that to you. maybe i still can..?” he says, hope in his eyes as the moonlight reflected in them.

“yeah..” you say and when jake looks into your eyes, he sees all the color of the world, pink, red, blue, and so many more that he wishes he could identify but your gaze alone was enough to leave him in awe. the loud popping of fireworks fills the park as bright combinations of colors illuminate the darkness of the night. 

traditional shapes of fireworks are partnered with those that resemble the images of beloved sanrio characters. you and jake take turns pointing out the ones you recognize, appreciating the joy of the moment as you two forget about the past, thinking that maybe this was an instance where moving on and starting over was a possibility. 

an option that neither of you knew were available. 

you gently place your head onto jake’s shoulder and he places his on top of your head as the two of you take in the rest of the night, finding comfort in each other and the familiarity seeping back in as the fireworks drown out the looming feeling that something could go wrong. 

once the ride was over, concluding your date; you give jake a short hug goodbye. jake wishing that he could hold onto that feeling for the rest of his life. 

“what was your favorite part of the date?”

yn: the rollercoasters, for sure jake: not the rollercoasters… that’s for sure. maybe seeing how happy yn got when i won her a prize?

“would you date the other?”

yn: yeah jake: 100% yes

“do you think he’ll be mr. right?”

yn: it’s too early to say but i definitely think he might have a good chance “do you think you’ll be mr. right?”

jake: i’ll do my best to be that for her.

after the question is asked, you try to get up and leave but you’re told to sit back down as they had another question for you, same with jake who was doing his interview in a different location. 

“your conversation together on the ferris wheel, you do realize you’re still mic’d up right?” 

yn: oh.. jake: i see.. 

the two of you hadn’t even taken that into consideration when choosing to talk about your past. no one besides the two of you, and the cameraman, knew about the two of you being exes, and now the whole crew knew about it. you didn’t know how it was going to reside with the audience but since it was briefly touched upon in previous episodes, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad that everyone knew. not like it was something to hide. 

“how does it feel to see your ex again?”

yn: i’m not sure, but i just know it was better than the last time we saw each other.  jake: it feels like fate..

The different 'parts' will not be different chapters, but different fics entirely. There is so much stuff shoved into each individual part that if I put them all into one singular Ao3 fic it would be like 100 chapters. Sorry if thats annoying, I enjoy my organization. This is a rewrite/AU, its not going to be accurate to canon however I try to be. Most if not all main canonical events will likely happen in some capacity within the AU, generally it may be tweaked as some aspects of the story I do not like/I've changed to have a deeper impact.

What is the AU even about??

Thought I'd properly go into it.

ONE MORE NIGHT is a Five Night's at Freddy's AU/Rewrite, that generally follows the main events and story of the original GAMES franchise, with some very minor inspirations from the books. The story will be written in third-person, and will occasionally swap point of views (in-between chapters) throughout the fic.

The story itself is more character and relationship focused. Themes i wish to explore include, the destruction of the mind/spiralling, (the stages of) grief, revenge , etc. Since generally, i dont really enjoy the fanon characterization of certain characters, I really want to explore them from my point of view, as well as develop the relationships and motivations of all the characters which I feel are sort of lacking in the main FNAF media? I'm aware its there, its never truly properly explored though.

I really like horror, and this is my first proper opportunity to get a crack at it. I highly doubt its going to be shiver me timbers terrifying, I try my best. If you want a reference for the type of horror I'm into and what I am inspired by, its mainly media such as, The Magnus Archives, as well as a few more gothic works such as Frankenstein (currently reading the book).

Content Warnings:

This story will likely include pretty graphic depictions of violence, ESPECIALLY when in referral to Micheal Afton, Jeremy Fitzgerald and William Afton, you'll never guess why. I will tag these chapters, and if needed, will provide a brief summery at the end if a person is to skip past it but doesnt want to miss what happened. Generally, i will try to avoid describing the children too graphically, since theyre, yknow, kids. But uh, yknow, its FNAF, so be warned.

Other general warnings, outside of the warnings I'll give on individual chapters include, Abusive relationships, (mild) suicidal thoughts, and sensitive topics such as grief and loss. I'm sure theres stuff I'm missing, these will be tagged in specific chapters.

Generally I have no idea if anyone ever would read this fic, so if you, specifically, the one guy reading this, IS interested, most of the stuff will be on this page. (Side note: For the record, when i say 'relationships' this mainly refering to platonic relationships within the story. Theres a very minor romance side plot which you can like, easily choose to ignore, but its there, and its horrifically slow slowburn, so its like barely there 90% of the time. All of the creatives behind CC and CT seem to genuinely love Yasammy, do you feel that's the case?

Also more importantly, is there anything I as a professional nobody can do to help support artists in the current action?

Absolutely! A lot of us always thought they should be together on both shows.

And yes, for those who are unaware-- our union, The Animation Guild (which many of the folks who brought you Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory are members of), is currently in negotiations with the AMPTP (The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, who represent all the studios who EMPLOY union workers) for a new contract for LA union animation workers.

There's a lot of different issues being negotiated over right now (including AI, better pay for undervalued crafts, and a vast number of craft specific issues), but I and many of my former coworkers have been personally affected by the growing trend of studios outsourcing more and more previously UNION jobs to nonunion workers, who are vastly underpaid and overworked without the protections that were negotiated for us here in LA.

I have personally been out of work since February. This can partially be attributed to the fact that studios haven't been greenlighting very many new shows. But it can ALSO be attributed to studios looking for shady ways to cut costs, and deciding they no longer value TV storyboard artists enough to hire them union and pay them what they are really worth (many outsourced storyboard artists are paid a third of what we are paid in LA). Practically everyone I know who I used to work with at Dreamworks TV (with the exception of 1 or 2 people who are about to hit their own end dates soon) are no longer working there, and many are also currently unemployed as well.

To be clear-- I do not blame outsourced workers-- they are also taken advantage of by the studios, and they are often awarded contracts based on whoever bids the least money and time, and then not treated fairly. In an ideal world, everyone should be paid the union rate with the union benefits if they are doing work for a union studio, no matter the location, and whether or not someone is hired should come down purely to whether they are a fit for the project, not whether or not they are the cheapest labor a company can exploit.

So! This (and many MANY more reasons, including trying to replace EVERYONE with AI) is why I am rooting for any and all gains our negotiations committee can make towards these eventual goals, as well as further protection of our current members this negotiations cycle.

To avoid seeing certain tags or posts on your feed or in search results, here's a guide on how to mute them...

I have been getting a lot of questions from my mutuals about how to filter out certain tags or blog pages from their dashboard or search results. Instead of answering each person individually, I decided to make a post about it. With the current state of our fandom, I believe this feature could be useful to many of you. The steps are straightforward, so here's a brief guide:

To begin, click on the Settings option located on the left-hand side of your page. Then, navigate to the Accounts section found on the right-hand side of the page.

Scroll down the page until you reach the Content you see section. Within this section, there are two options for filtering content: hashtags and page links.

In the Filtered Post Content, you can include links to specific blog pages that you wish to hide from your dash. Whereas in Filtered Tags section, you have the option to suppress certain hashtags from appearing on your feed.

And voila! You've effectively muted the tags and blogs without having to block the account. So go nuts and enjoy the peace and quiet – HAPPY muting, everyone! 😙🫶

Fun fact abt this drawing! The logo on the shirt is a punk hip-hop band from Serbia called Sunshine! With Edonia’s location it can be assumed Jake is half Serb (as a half Serb, I will die on that hill) so I thought of what music he might listen to and Sunshine, specifically “Iza Horizonta” by Sunshine, struck me as very fitting. He’s also one of my fav Resident Evil characters, he’s so cool and so close to my heart.

President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Chinese imports have sent millions of manufacturers, retailers, and small businesses on both sides of the Pacific scrambling to cope with a sudden and punishing rise in costs. After Beijing responded with its own retaliatory measures, the White House said that a wide range of Chinese-made goods—from toys to electronics—will now face an effective tariff rate of 145 percent, a steep jump from the 34 percent figure Trump initially outlined just last week.

But despite looming economic pain, China is not backing down or making concessions to Trump. If anything, the government appears more defiant than ever, especially after some political narratives about the country’s manufacturing strength have started to shift in recent years. In the long run, in fact, an escalating battle with the US could wind up being an opportunity for China to leverage its growing soft power. “If the US is determined to fight a tariff and trade war, China’s response will continue to the end,” Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, DC, said in a statement to WIRED.

The US previously justified its punitive trade measures against China by citing the country’s troubling human rights record and accusing it of repeatedly stealing American intellectual property. But China has now developed its own global tech brands, is home to a leading artificial intelligence startup, and has opened more branches of domestic drink shop Mixue than there are Starbucks or McDonald's locations worldwide. The Trump administration’s alleged human rights abuses, meanwhile, are alarming civil liberties groups and observers around the world.

“This is kind of an interesting confluence of events where you have this soft power win over on the China side combined with effectively a complete abdication of soft power altogether from the United States,” says Kevin Xu, founder of the technology hedge fund Interconnected Capital and a former White House staffer under President Obama.

Many Chinese citizens seem pleased that their leaders are standing up to the US, though public polling in the country can be sparse and unreliable. As Trump’s tariffs went into effect, the Chinese government appeared to censor hashtags that mentioned the specifics of the measures, like “104 tariff rate,” but it allowed others focused on making fun of the United States to continue circulating. “America is fighting a trade war while begging for eggs,” read one particularly popular hashtag coined by China’s state broadcaster.

“We support our country in standing firm to the end! We’re not afraid of temporary hardship—what we fear is eternal cowardice," says the owner of an artificial Christmas tree factory in China who asked to remain anonymous due to the risks of speaking to foreign media outlets. The owner tells WIRED that the tariffs are already having negative impacts on her industry, and she expects the competition for non-US markets like South America and Russia to be stiff next year, but “no matter what, we'll get through it.”

Trump administration officials have promoted the tariffs as a way to boost US manufacturing and create more high-paying jobs. But American small business owners painted a very different picture of the situation on TikTok. In one video, the founder of a trendy hair accessories brand rolled her eyes and explained that the company’s products “literally cannot be made here.” In another, the CEO of a shoe company similarly said China “is just the only place I could manufacture.” The owner of a company that makes self-checkout kiosks lamented about how awful his experiences have been working with suppliers in the US compared to those in China. “What it’s about is Americans are a bunch of babies and they are hard to work with,” he told the camera.

The founder of a London-based clothing brand struck a more heartwarming tone, uploading a slideshow of pictures of herself posing with the garment workers her company partners with in China, set to The Fray song “Look After You.” The text overlaid on one photo read “Our wins are their wins.” The TikTok post received over 55,000 likes, an indication of how attitudes toward China have evolved among at least some Western consumers, compared to the past, when the country’s factories were mostly associated with pumping out cheap, flimsy goods. “Suddenly people see, oh, it’s not this imagined ‘slave labor’ that's making my clothes, they're actually humans,” says Tianyu Fang, a fellow at the New America think tank and one of the cofounders of the Chinese internet culture newsletter Chaoyang Trap.

In recent weeks, as the Trump administration’s ever-changing trade policies enraged close American allies like Canada, a number of prominent commentators have even begun suggesting that perhaps the era of American exceptionalism was over. The coming decades, they argued, would now be defined by the rise of China.

“The Chinese century, brought to you by Donald Trump,” David Frum, a staff writer at The Atlantic and former speechwriter for George W. Bush said in a social media post on April 2. New York Times opinion writer Thomas Friedman published a column the same day raving about a recent trip to China during which he witnessed the country’s impressive infrastructure and technological development. It was headlined “I Just Saw the Future. It Was Not in America.”

“When people say this is the Chinese century, what they really mean is that the consensus that this will be the American century is being broken,” says Fang.

Growing Influence

When Trump’s most comprehensive tariffs caused global stock markets to take a nosedive earlier this week, US social media influencer Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed to his over 100 million collective followers, was wrapping up a sprawling tour across China with stops in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and other cities. Watkins spent days livestreaming himself mingling with Chinese celebrities and ​​taking a boat ride with Hong Kong’s glittering skyline as the backdrop. By broadcasting in real time, IShowSpeed’s fans got an “unprecedented opportunity” to see “an unfiltered China,” Yaling Jiang, CEO of the strategy firm ApertureChina, wrote in her newsletter.

Many Americans got another direct glimpse inside China earlier this year when the US was set to ban TikTok nationwide. Anticipating the app might soon disappear, hundreds of thousands of people flocked to RedNote, another Chinese-owned social media app, where they saw posts of people in China showing off their domestic-made electric cars and comfortable urban apartments. TikTok itself, which was created by the Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is a testament to China’s growing soft power. Trump has vowed to save the app, and despite warnings from US lawmakers about the data security risks it poses, fewer Americans support banning it than did a few years ago.

But positive depictions of China won’t shield it from the economic damage ahead. Trump’s tariffs are so high that they will likely bring trade between the world’s two largest economies to a screeching halt. The signs of that disruption are already visible: Bloomberg reported that Amazon has canceled a number of wholesale product orders, like $500,000 worth of Chinese-made beach chairs for the upcoming US summer season, while a toy maker in China’s Guangdong province told The Wall Street Journal that a longtime client in Maryland similarly canceled a shipment scheduled to be delivered in June.

In as little as a few weeks, Americans may have a harder time finding some products on store shelves, which will eventually lead to higher consumer prices. The Chinese workers who make those items, meanwhile, could soon find themselves out of work. “The US is facing shortages and inflation, and on the Chinese side, they’re facing job losses and deflation,” says Gerard DiPippo, acting associate director of the RAND China Research Center and an expert on China’s economy. DiPippo adds that he’s stocking up on cooking ingredients from China in case they become unavailable, like szechuan peppercorns.

While there are some ways the Chinese government could try to stimulate spending and prop up local businesses, its options are fairly limited. Over the past few years, a domestic housing market crash has eroded the savings of China’s middle class and youth unemployment has soared, causing demand for things like shopping and eating at restaurants to fall. In response, China focused even more on increasing exports, making the country especially vulnerable to Trump’s attacks. China sent about $400 billion worth of goods to the US last year, and there are few other places it could shift that trade instead.

It’s unclear how things will unfold. China’s economic challenges could limit its ability to extend influence globally, and many will continue to view its authoritarian regime with skepticism. In the future, the cultural void left by the US may remain vacant as the world becomes increasingly fragmented. “I personally see the vacuum scenario more possible, where we’re all kind of fending for ourselves,” says Xu.

It is common for researchers to create their own accounts on Tumblr to facilitate research. Fink and Miller (2014) used Tumblr extensively prior to the development of their method, with their reflective “autho-ethnographic dialogue” (Fink and Miller, 2014, p. 611) being inspired by their personal experience. Maintaining a Tumblr presence enabled several researchers to acquire a fuller understanding of their chosen communities and practices. Hillman et al. (2014b) state that their participation on Tumblr was responsible for their discovery of the fan spaces studied, and for their acclimatisation to the “unique culture of practice” (Hillman et al., 2014b, p. 775) found within. Daer et al.’s (2014) study of the rhetorical function of hashtags across social media used similar methods: "Over a period of 18 months, we became participatory observers and regular users of the social media communities we studied […] interpretation of meaning was indeterminable without knowledge of context, timing, affordances, and personalities of each social media network" (Daer et al., 2014, p. 18).

Restricted information No data is provided on geographic location of users when they make posts on Tumblr (unless specifically provided). It is also not clear whether a post has been made by a user through the desktop site, through the Tumblr mobile application, through a third-party mobile application or via e-mail. Xu et al. (2014a) consider access to location information is “crucial” (p. 406), and note that geo-tagged content is supported by other microblogging platforms including Twitter. Tumblr’s deficiency in these areas can be a deterrent to researchers.

Deficiency huh. So not employing excessive tracking like other media sites makes research on Tumblr slightly more difficult :(

Tumblr’s current perilous financial state and falling user base could become a major limitation to academic research (Bell, 2016; Fiegerman, 2016; Kim, 2016; Flynn, 2016). Tumblr has potential for research, but only while the platform is developed and supported. Those considering future research on Tumblr should ascertain the health of the platform before proceeding.

adopting Lost’s grid layout, i’ve compiled a list of blogs whose archives consist of an extensive amount of [ideally] self-hosted audio posts. the links directly bring you to their filter:audio archive displays for ease of access.

my intentions for this project stemmed from getting so pissed off trying to locate specific tracks via hashtags, all to be bombarded with completely irrelevant nonsense. it also encourages the discovery of new music for anyone interested.

What do you think of these Uchiha, Senju, Uzumaki, Hyuga clans?

I'm connected from my phone, so I can't link the specific post. But I've already talked about the Uzumaki clan in particular. I'm very interested in them and wish we'd get more on them. I enjoy fanfics that expand on their lore. If you're interested in reading the post, you can check the hashtag #uzumaki clan on my blog, you should find it quite easily. Actually, I always tag as #uzumaki clan, #uchiha clan etc when I post about them.

I'd like to talk about the Hyuga first. It will be the easier, I think. This clan doesn't interest me that much. I have a distate for Hiashi and it probably colours my view on the clan itself. So lets start with the seal. That thing they use with the (fake) ideal of protecting the byakugan. This "precaution" isn't enough. Ao ended stealing one with no problem. And if it happened once, then others were probably able to grab one too. They also activate it to torture their kin (something Hiashi did with no regret) and to kill them.

Now, we can continue with the other point. Their "byakugan" has many capabilities. It can see the chakra points including the tenketsu (something the sharingan can't do), see very far (10 km for Hinata's case) and throught almost anything with a vision close to 365-degree. Do you see where I'm going ? It's doesn't make sense to focus only on taijutsu. I suppose their "conservative side" have a role in that. But while the Uchiha have a special taijutsu, fire techniques, shiruken jutsu, genjutsu and even kenjutsu, the Hyuga don't seem to bother with versatility. They could have their own shirukenjutsu. Imagine Hinata with a bow and arrows. The girl is in a tracker team and can see at least 10 km afar and she's just locating things with her byakugan ? Am I the only one who see a problem with that ? Or they could have been very useful in ninjutsu medical. Even if they don't want to share their techniques, then have them keep hidden in the clan.

The lore of the Hyuga don't really make sense to me. It seems like Kishimoto lost interest in them after the chunin arc. I mean he forgot to draw one of Naruto and Hinata's kids with a byakugan. With the way he treated them, I can honestly believe that.

I don't know enough about the Senju to have a strong opinion on them. I love Tsunade. She's the last one of her clan (as far we know) and Kishimoto didn't really expand on her identity as a Senju. He clearly connected her to Hashirama, and tried to paint a "parallel" between them. But that's it. The era of Madara and Hashirama "deserve" its own manga. I would totally read it.

As for the Uchiha, they're the most developed clan in the manga. I love their versatility in their techniques. I like the fact their members are diverse as possible in terms of personality and ideals. You can empathise with them, with Sasuke but also Fugaku or Madara and Itachi. They clearly deserved better. They wanted peace, to be heard and respected. And while they are traditional and very proud of their power and strength, they also value bonds and family.

Kishimoto really liked the Uchiha (or at least Sasuke) and you can see it in the way he developed them, gave them conflicts etc. He really worked on darker themes with this clan and it's interesting, in my humble opinion. The rivalry with the Senju made sense (before the founding of Konoha). It kinda works as a legend for the worldbuilding of the manga. I don't know how to explain it.
