By perceiving deserts as frontiers for experimentation, the developers of these real estate projects facilitate the disappearance of fragile ecologies – like that of the saguaro cactus – not only representationally, as in Telosa’s renders, but also materially, causing the very ruin early generations of settlers projected onto such arid landscapes. As our ecological crises solidify, such imaginations of devastated landscapes are becoming globalised, leading humans to perceive the planet itself as a test bed, open to experimentation for those advancing speculative design solutions, technological innovations and business models to mitigate the climate emergency, with little understanding or consideration of their future impacts. Desert cities such as Telosa, Neom and Masdar, and the capital that funds them, are complicit in both the demise of deserts themselves and the planet more broadly. While presenting themselves as inventive solutions to various ecological crises, these supposedly post‑carbon utopias in fact squander the opportunity humanity possesses today to effectively address the climate catastrophe.

Masdar City: A Driving Force in Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030
Tumblr media

🌐 Visit: www.purehome-re.ae
As nations across the globe push for sustainability and innovation, the UAE has emerged as a forward-thinking leader — and nowhere is this more evident than in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s flagship sustainable urban development.
More than just an architectural achievement, Masdar City plays a critical role in Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030, the emirate’s ambitious long-term plan to diversify its economy, reduce its reliance on oil, and promote sustainable growth.
A Blueprint for Sustainable Urban Development
Masdar City was launched in 2006 with a bold mission: to build one of the world’s most sustainable cities, powered by renewable energy and designed for minimal environmental impact. From energy-efficient buildings and solar farms to pedestrian-friendly layouts and advanced water recycling systems, Masdar is a living model of what eco-conscious urban development can look like.
It isn’t just about green buildings—it’s about creating a scalable urban ecosystem that supports human well-being, environmental preservation, and long-term economic resilience.
Innovation Hub for Clean Technology and Research
As part of the Vision 2030 strategy to become a knowledge-based economy, Masdar City has become home to an expanding network of startups, international companies, and R&D institutions focusing on clean technology, AI, mobility, and urban design.
Institutions like the Masdar Institute (now part of Khalifa University) have helped the city evolve into a research-led innovation cluster. This supports Abu Dhabi’s mission to transition from hydrocarbons to intellectual capital and sustainable industries.
Supporting Business and Investment Growth
Masdar City is also a growing free zone, offering competitive business setup packages and flexible office solutions for companies looking to operate in a low-carbon, innovation-driven environment. Its unique “living lab” model makes it a dynamic location for companies to test, develop, and commercialize sustainable solutions.
Initiatives such as Start Lite and Business One are designed to reduce barriers to entry, particularly for clean-tech startups and SMEs — aligning with Vision 2030’s goal of empowering entrepreneurship and private sector growth.
A Model for Future Cities
Perhaps the greatest impact of Masdar City lies in its role as a global benchmark. As climate resilience becomes a priority for governments and investors alike, Masdar shows that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand.
The success of this city demonstrates that environmentally responsible urban development is not only feasible but essential for long-term success.
Final Thoughts
Masdar City is more than a smart city — it is a symbol of Abu Dhabi’s forward-thinking leadership and a tangible contributor to the goals of Vision 2030. For investors, innovators, and sustainability advocates, Masdar City represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a transformative journey that redefines how cities are built and how economies grow.

🇮🇱⚔️🇵🇸 🚀🏘️💥🚑 🚨
💥ISRAEL'S ATROCITIES CONTINUE WITH ENDLESS AIRSTRIKES ON CIVILIAN HOMES ACROSS THE GAZA STRIP💥
📹 Civil Defense crews work to recover the bodies of five martyred Palestinians and a number of wounded after Israeli occupation forces bombed a residential home, east of Gaza City, while another strike targeting a 7-story residential building in the Al-Rimal neighborhood buried dozens of civilians under the rubble of the collapsed building.
Meanwhile, in another Zionist atrocity, occupation warplanes bombed a residential home in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp, in central Gaza, killing another 7 Palestinians and injuring several others.
At the same time, Israeli fighter jets bombarded another civilian home, this time in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of at least five civilians and wounding dozens, most of whom were children.
Another civilian was killed, and several others wounded, as a result of Zionist artillery shelling which targeted the Abu Dawabeh family home in the town of Al-Masdar, in the central Gaza Strip.
As a result of Israel's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, the death toll has now exceeded 31'490 killed, mostly women and children, while another 73'439 civilians have been wounded since the beginning of the current round of Israeli aggression beginning on October 7th, 2023.

On Monday, April 15, the Palestinian Football Association announced that three children from the Al-Wahda Sports Academy had been killed during Israeli raids in Deir al-Balah, located in the heart of the Gaza Strip. “We announce the martyrdom of players Sami Bilal Abu Issa and Muhammad Bilal Abu Issa,” Al Wahda Academy announced on its Facebook account, which followed up by announcing the death of Adam Ramez Nabhan in another Israeli bombing. “Our hearts break for their loss.” The three children—the youngest of whom was was four years old, with the other two aged six—are among the hundreds of Palestinian athletes who have been killed since the war broke out between Israel and Hamas on October 7, 2023. Later that same day, the PFA revealed that at least 182 athletes and sports officials had been killed amid Israel’s destruction of Gaza, including no less than 28 children. An overwhelming number of the athletes killed were members of Gaza’s once vibrant football ecosystem. Among the notable names is Hani Al-Masdar, a former player and manager of the Olympic team, and Mohammed Barakat, Gaza’s first centurion of goals and a former national team player known as the “Legend of Khan Younis.” Israel has also destroyed or partially dozens of football facilities in Palestine since the start of the war. These include all of Gaza’s professional football stadiums, as well as the PFA headquarters, which was also targeted by Israeli airstrikes. Meanwhile, smaller facilities and dirt pitches have been transformed into makeshift refugee camps, field hospitals, and mass graves.
You can find the entire list of athletes murdered or injured by Israel in link above

More than 300 Palestinian sports teams are calling to ban Israel from the Olympics over its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Israeli offensive on Gaza has claimed the lives of 26,706 civilians, including 11,422 infants and children. Ninety percent of Palestinians are internally displaced and living in inhumane conditions with “no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel.” No functional hospitals. No mosques. No churches. No libraries. No schools. No universities. No bakeries. At this rate, the brutal Israeli regime will soon destroy every aspect of life in Gaza, including its sports.
Join the global campaign to peacefully disrupt the road to Paris 2024 calling on the IOC to #BanIsrael until it ends its crimes against Palestinians and recognizes our UN-stipulated rights.
Register your group to join the campaign
We thus urgently demand:
An immediate suspension of Israel from participation in all international sports until it fully complies with international law and sports regulations
For global and European sports governing bodies to immediately uphold their statutory obligations – especially their own rules on human rights and non-discrimination given Russian, South African and other precedents. This would include, inter alia, a ban on Israel competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and UEFA’s EURO.
For a deeper analysis on the rationale to suspend Israel from international sports, please review this paper (also available in Spanish) that will be sent to sports organisations.
Tumblr media
Here’s what you can do.
1. Join the Global Day(s) of Action, March 15-17
Ahead of the IOC executive board meeting in Lausanne Switzerland (March 19-21), take the call from Palestinian teams to your National Olympic Committee, International Sports Federations and Recognized Sports Federations. Organize protests, sit-ins, peaceful disruptions, or awareness raising events on Israeli attacks on Palestinian sports. Register your group for more information.
2. Olympics qualifiers and events
From now until the Olympic Games start in July, the road to Paris will be filled with opportunities to remind the IOC that there is no place in the Olympics for genocide perpetrators. Earlier this month, four runners took the #CeasefireNow message to the Olympic Trials Marathon in Florida, crossing the finish line with Palestinian flags. Find information on Olympic time trials and qualifiers (also here) or other Olympics-related events in your area. Register your group for more information.
3. Kick Israeli apartheid out of sports
Is your country a signatory to the International Convention Against Apartheid in Sports? If so, it has an obligation to “take all appropriate action to secure the expulsion of a country practising apartheid from international and regional sports bodies.” Register your group to learn what you can do.
4. Sign the petition to ban Israel from world sports
Join more than 70,000 people from all over the world who have signed the petition calling for banning Israel from international sport.
