Do you think that when Kathy got pregnant that Deidre thought she’d end up looking after the baby? Like here is her incredibly flighty baby sister, and she is pregnant herself she can’t think of what it would be like to look after her baby and her sisters baby at the same time, and then Kathy goes to get an abortion in England and she feels relieved. Deidre watches Mary take care of her little girl, and help Sarah take care of her little girl as well, and Deidre may feel like she dodged a bullet a bit, she has her own boy and her own little girl and they are a handful and she is glad that doesn’t have to balance Kathy and her baby as well.

And then Kathy pitches back up years later with a teenage boy that she never actually aborted, and leaves him behind when she goes on her merry way again. And Deidre ends up raising her sisters son like she thought she would all those years ago. And it’s harder than it needed to be because this teenage boy doesn’t really know this family or the place that he has been abandoned with, and Deidre doesn’t know him either and maybe if Kathy had just done this in the first place this could all be much simpler.

I don’t know maybe I’ll write a fic about it but I just have a lot of thoughts about Deidre Mallon expecting to have to look after Kathy’s baby, thinking that she missed that bullet and then ending up raising James anyway.

Hello! My name is Mari Delia. I have been writing stories recreationally for four years now. I have recently started posting my stories since this year's March. I recently made this tumblr so that I have a place to post one-shots, headcanons, mini-series, and more. Now, my full series is over on Wattpad. Currently, I am making slow updates to that story since I am sick. We don’t exactly know what I am sick with, but it’s been going on for three years, which is why I am slow at writing. It’s why I started to post my writings, because there isn’t much I can do anymore. This at least gives me a sense of productivity through it all. In this post, I will go over the rules I have for requesting stories. I must say that I am very strict about these rules. I will also be going over which fandoms I write for. I will only accept requests for one-shots and headcanons.

My Rules

Rule #1: Understand that I have my own private life. I have a family to care for, a job to do, and, as previously stated, I am sick as well. I need to care for myself too, which is why I am slow at writing stories.

 Rule #2: I will not write about real people. As lovely as I think Pedro Pascal and Tom Hiddleston are, I don’t want to be writing about them. They’re real people with real lives, and some of those people aren’t comfortable with fanfiction being written about them. I feel like I would be speculating about their lives, invading their privacy, and we don’t always know if they’re comfortable with that. A character is one thing; a real person is another.

 Rule #3: I don’t really feel comfortable writing smut one-shots. Well, it’s not that I'm personally uncomfortable with it; I just don’t like writing smut one-shots. If I do post one, it was on my own account.

 Rule #4: I am more than fine with writing any pairing, although I will not write a trans character as my main character. I myself am not a transgender person, so I will not be able to truly understand their struggles. I do not want to offend anybody with that, but a lot of the stories I have written have had transgender characters in them; they're just not main characters. I don’t want to portray their struggles incorrectly or write falsely about those absolutely lovely people.

 Rule #5: You can use my ask box to send in requests because I’m pretty sure that it’s open. Make sure to specify which character from the list I have, what idea you have, and whatever else you think I should know about it. Whether it’s a ship or a reader insert

 Rule #6: I am open to trying basically any character pairing as long as it does not involve incest, minor, or adult relationships and follows my rules.

 Rule #7: I refuse to write scenes about the topics of rape, suicide, eating disorders, self-harm, heart attacks, strokes, or CPR. I am willing to write about these topics.

I know its not what most people are taking from that episode, but I really liked how Michelle told Erin that no matter how much she cares about her, she'd have to side with James. Series 1 Michelle would never pick him over anyone, blood be damned, but I love that after the S2 finale she has been in a very Michelle way, been showing that she really does care for her wee English prick of a cousin. I just really care about the Mallon/ Maguire cousins is all.

This isnt a prompt, just something Ive been thinking about, not only is James sort of taking her brother's place in the house and in the family, but imo its also thrown Michelle from being the little sister with a big brother, to being almost like a big sister for James (in that shes having to look out for him) which must be a hell of a shock to the system. Not to mention James going from being alone and an only child who probably never saw much of his family apart from his Mum, to being in the middle of this extended family and having a sibling relationship for the first time. I have a lot of feelings about the Mallon/ Maguire cousins ;_;

such good points, anon, you’ve really had me thinking about this for a couple of days, and it’s sent me down a small rabbit hole and resulted in the unfocused, unwieldy train of thought you see below. i have lots of feelings about the mallon/maguire cousins too! and i don't feel like i've even begun to fully unpack them here.

but i’m thinking about the timeline, especially. i’m doing the math and estimating that niall is probably 2-3 years older than michelle. could conceivably be more, could conceivably be less, but this feels like a good sweet spot to me. but it also likely makes niall an actual child still (i’m thinking he’s 17 when he’s imprisoned, which makes michelle potentially 14 – a year before s1 derry girls) and that’s just really devastating.

and if this all happens only a year before james moves to derry, how incredibly crushing it would be to see james move in, like deidre is just replacing niall who michelle isn’t allowed to go see or even really talk about so it’s like he doesn’t even exist anymore.

so for michelle, james is there, in her house, staying in her brother’s room – it’s only been, like, a week and everyone keeps calling it “james’s room,” even her ma, as if niall hasn’t barely been gone for even a year. it gets her boiling every time – and now she can’t even fucking be rid of him at school. honestly, they should all just let him get beat up at the boys’ school, the english prick – maybe he’d learn to stop making those faces like he’s just tasted something minging every time he looks around at his surroundings.

she’s tried being nice but he doesn’t seem to get it, not with the way he’s always got that sour look on his face. fine then, but she just wishes he’d get it through his thick skull that she doesn’t want him here just as much as he doesn’t want to be here, he’s not special for it.

the night before the start of new term, she thought everyone had gone to bed so when her ma knocks, she lets out a startled, “jesus christ!” and then a “fuck!” because now she knows she’s going to be in for it – for staying up too late, and for the language (as always).

but then her ma comes in looking so tired and doesn't even say anything about the late night or the language, and just sits, perched at the end of michelle’s bed and asks her, “promise you’ll keep an eye on him, won’t you, michelle?”

michelle is so shocked that all she says back is, “aye, mammy, i promise.” which she really fucking wishes she hadn’t said because now she’s going to have to actually do it.

and james doesn’t really, fully understand it. like, he gets that his older cousin is in jail for killing someone – not surprising, if he’s being quite honest. niall always freaked him out a little, and he’s got an…interesting taste in music, if james is going off the posters on the walls – but no one really talks about him until michelle catches him taking down a dead kennedys poster and goes absolutely mental on him.

the next weekend, when his uncle martin tells him he’ll help clean up the room so james can feel more at home, james notices how gingerly martin takes down the posters, rolling them up and labeling them carefully like they’ll be sorted through and hung up again someday.

he feels really bad that he didn’t ask first when he started taking things off the walls before and makes sure he eats all of the cowboy supper they order from fionnula’s that night without complaint.

5. who is your favorite character?

- i have so many favorite characters lol. but first and foremost has to be the love of my life, Klaus 🖤 (i can go into why he’s my number one favorite character another time if anyone wants to know lol) and some of my other favorite characters are under the cut 😅 there’s a lot of them so i thought i should just do this so if anyone doesn’t want to read all of that, they don’t have to lol.

13. do you have any dreams or aspirations?

- i do 🥰 i want to become an actor/actress 🖤 (well i guess actor is the more gender neutral of the two 😅) like to play a character and work on a show or movie that can help someone through the tough times like my favorite shows, movies, characters and actors/actresses have for me, or idk maybe make them feel less alone, that’s all i want.

i want to be able to tell that character’s story well enough that someone can relate to it or feel like they are being seen and heard. i just- to be able to give someone even a fraction of what my comfort/favorite movies, shows, characters & actors/actresses have given me and continue to give me and how they make me feel so much less alone when i’m struggling, always managing to put a smile on my face or making a good day even better, that would just mean the world to me 💙

i would love to be able to give someone the comfort, happiness, love and security my faves have given me and still do give me 🖤 and i would love for there to be more non-binary, bi/pan/queer and demisexual representation in media!

like i realize it’s a long shot. but i have wanted this with all of my heart and soul, have dreamt of this and wished for this to be my career or what i do my whole life 💙 i want this with everything i have and love acting so much! it’s my passion! (hopefully all of that makes sense 💖)

Something so important about Michelle and James as characters is how it’s implicitly suggested that they are frequently left to their own devices. Both Deirdre and Martin work demanding jobs, that’s why the Quinns take them along on holiday to Portnoo.

They’re clearly latchkey kids, they probably go home to an empty house every night of the week. Another indicator is how they both frequently quote or reference movies, like i can just picture them sitting on the sofa together, with plates of beans on toast because neither of them can cook and watching films together while the adults are on night shifts.

And that’s how it’s always been for Michelle, she’s probably spent countless hours alone/unsupervised. But then she has James, and of course she can’t let on but she quickly realises that it’s really nice to have him around? Like maybe it’s better than being on her own and raiding the drinks cupboard? So when he tells her he’s leaving and going back to England, you can see how hurt she is, and you just know there’s so much more going on beneath the surface. Like in that moment she’s imagining what it would be like to go back to how it was before and it’s then that she realises James isn’t just a family member she’s been stuck with, he’s her friend, and if he leaves she’ll really miss him!! You can see how badly she wants him to stay!!

Honestly is it any wonder why they’re always round at Erin’s, where there is always an extra seat at the kitchen table and someone to wash your uniform and a cup of tea close at hand? Where it’s loud and warm and chaotic and feels like home?
