AAAAAAHHHH I HAVE A MATH TEST TMRW

Normally, I’m not so stressed, but I missed class this week (I was skipping shame on me 😭) and I have no clue what’s going on… Me and the math teacher are besties because he’s the coach of the golf team, so I’m scared of disappointing him with my bad test scores.

I also had a long lab in chem this week. It’s really sad because we got bad results even though we ran our trial for over and hour lol. I think it’s my lab partner’s fault because he keeps on putting his crusty fingers all over the cuvettes which is messing up the spectrophotometer. Hopefully he actually writes his part so it’s not another repeat of last year.

why are most sci fi fans the most idiotic and ignorant debate bros. a book called "Three Body Problem" has nothing to do with queerness? it has nothing to say about gender binaries and sexuality? not even imply? oh i see it's just a sci fi show. oh so adding queer characters is pushing an agenda. oh adding queer characters is pushing a WESTERN agenda! really!

i dont know how to tell you that a show adapted for a Netflix/American audience called "3 Body Problem" is 1) inevitably going to become a little bit more Americanized, but also 2) saying something about QUEERNESS as well as POC, you know, the most marginalized communities in America. If the characters in the trilogy aren't explicitly queer, don't you think the show is trying to say something about QUEER ASIANS when they DO write them to be queer??

off topic for a sec but stay with me: the issues with American politics and ideology is that it's so binary and strict. creating a third "body" of/to control is not the solution. the path to improving America is to look outward. for example, Chinese philosophies of yin and yang, give and take, wholeness of the self, etc. The American government's obsession with surveillance and controlling your feelings, thoughts, identity (Catholicism) is disrupted by Buddhist philosophy of meditation: calm concentration, harm no living creature, whatever is in your own head when you meditate is up to you, no thought you think is inherently bad.

so how is the story NOT about queerness and marginalized people? the first episode shows a half white, half Chinese woman kill herself before immediately cutting to a white woman singing on a stage, "I kissed a girl and I liked it." That juxtaposition is deliberate film-making dude!!! it's on PURPOSE!!! why is the asian woman at the bottom of a lake while the white woman gets to dance on stage? why is the asian woman silent and dead while the white woman gets to sing and live?

People who don't fit into the binaries, like queer people and mixed race people, are threatened by the world that says, "You shouldn't be here. You don't fit in. There isn't space for you." When these non-binary (as in, not fitting into binaries) characters hear that "God" is coming, that the Judgment Day is coming, it feels like the world is ending, they're gonna be the first to be killed, and it's best to just get it over with. Really similar to how queers, disabled people, poc often react when fascists rise to power. the showrunners are not doing this on accident!!!??

lastly. including queer characters in a story that was originally written in Chinese is not disrespectful to the work or to Chinese culture, because guess what!! there are queer people all over China too!!

We have started doing matrices in math class. It is not as bad as I remember it being last year, but it still is not particularly enjoyable. It is not as difficult as I thought it would be though, so I am happy about that.

What are some common (pure mathematics) applications/uses for block-diagonal matrices? Also, what (generally) are some interesting properties about them?

Additionally, what could you say about an “increasing block diagonal matrix,” where the non-zero submatrices of a square n x n increase from dimension 2 x 2, 3 x 3, ... , n/2 x n/2?

🌱 week 5 I 28.10.'24 - 30.10.'24

Matrices, baby! Nothing too difficult yet, but still a lot of fun. This is already my 5th week at university and that sounds insane to me to be honest. My week now mostly consists of doing assignments, studying, drinking way too much coffee and tea (definitely a healthy mix) and reading. And I love it!
