Here's how Maya addresses Phoenix throughout 1-2 in Japanese!

She calls him "Mr. Lawyer" in the very beginning.

"Atashi, Bengoshi-san wo shinjimasu."

"I trust Mr. Lawyer."

(English Localization: "And I trust you...")

"Dakara, Bengoshi-san mo...."

"So Mr. Lawyer [should trust me,] too."

(EL: "So you trust me, too, okay?")

At this point, the localization just kind of dodges addressing him directly until after the first trial where she calls him "Mr. Wright".

"Bengoshi-san!"

"Mr. Lawyer!"

(EL: "Mr. Wright!")

But once Maya becomes Phoenix's co-counsel, she calls him by just "Phoenix", but it's still "Mr. Lawyer" in Japanese.

"Dou.... Bengoshi-san?"

"What do you think.... Mr. Lawyer?"

(EL: "What do you think Phoenix?")

If she called him by his first name in Japanese (Ryuichi), it would be way too personal. As a matter of fact, there aren't a lot of characters who do call him "Ryuichi". The only ones who do in some form are Dahlia/Iris (Ryu-chan), Desirée (Ryuichi-kun), and Ponco (Ryuichi). That's because first-name basis is pretty much reserved for close family and lovers (admittedly I'm not sure why Ponco calls him Ryuichi, and I think Desirée is supposed to be displaying a flirtatious personality).

"But Fixy, if that's the case, why are most of the female characters addressed by their first names in Japanese?" That's because it's using Anime Rules™ and it's often fine to address women by their first names in anime.

And of course at the end, Maya finally addresses him as Nick/Naruhodo-kun.

"Yoroshiku! Naruhodo-kun!"

"I look forward to working with you! Naruhodo-kun!"

(EL: "Yo, Nick! Maya here, ready to get down to business!")

Maya May Special | Maya's Birthday Party!

While working on my T&T rewrite project, Chronicles and Culminations, I looked at the timeline of cases on the AA wiki and cross-referenced them to get a time-frame between which Maya's birthday probably falls. (Assuming that it happens off-screen directly between each game.)

Turns out, May is right in the middle of this range, which is oh so fitting given the existence of Maya May. (And also cause May is my birth month. :D) So I chose the 9th because of the Magatama symbol, and made this!

It's so funny to me when people said that Damian is the only BatFamily member that Bruce didn't choose/want/was forced into caring as if we didn't watch that boy tried to leave on multiple occasions only for Bruce/the other BatFamily chasing him down and dragging him back kicking and screaming

hello!! im sorry if this is too much trouble, i know hiring models costs money and im not sure if the cost depends on the amount of photos so i understand if it isnt possible right now, and im sorry for the long ask too haha, but:

im a rollator user (four wheeled walker with a seat) and i often sit on the seat to rest when im out and about. i would love one of your midi skirts in the future when i can afford one, but im not sure how the length and how the various patterns would look while sitting down...

about half of my time spent in public (where i would wear a skirt) is spent sitting to rest, so its really important to me to like how i look sitting too!

so that being said, i was wondering if it would be possible for you to have photos available of models (or yourselves!) sitting down, preferably from a front and side view, just on any average chair, while wearing your skirts?

i imagine it would also be helpful for wheelchair users, for anyone who sits a lot at work, and just in general!

again, i dont know if you pay your models per photo, so i totally understand if this isnt an affordable expense right now! and i dont expect you to go back through on every skirt and add new pics, haha. i just thought i would ask, never hurts to wonder :}

(ps i LOVE your work (the way you draw people, especially peoples hair, and your rendering on your illustrations inspires me to work on my own art SO much), and i hope you and your whole team have a lovely day!)

hi, thank you for the kind words! we've previously done quite a few sitting photos in our skirts, so i'll show some of those below for the meantime. a lot of our designs have similar compositions so hopefully this should help you visualize what various designs might look like sitting!

i'll keep in mind to try to get more sitting photos again in the future, but right now things are super hectic and overwhelming and i may forget, so please don't hate me too much if that happens. 😅

recently devin and i moved across the country and between that, money being tight, and our social media manager quitting, we've been short on both funds and spoons. we're back to shooting photos of us on our phones in our own house and i'm back to working two jobs (doing the art and the social media)

So it turns out I really enjoy doing those Japanese analysis posts! I didn't mean to make that the center of this year's Maya May, but that's just how things happen sometimes!

But I made a lot of posts and I know tumblr is a casual place where folks can post anything and everything, but I enjoy keeping things organized and this blog is more dedicated to my Ace Attorney Art and my love for Phoenix and Maya.

So, I made a side blog dedicated to these sorts of posts!

...actually I made this blog last July. I wanted to highlight every change made in the English localization of Ace Attorney in chronological order, with each case taking up one post. In the middle of making the first post, I got overwhelmed and set the whole project aside.

With what I was doing for Maya May on this blog made me realize that that was what the format for the blog should be in! Highlighting whatever things between the Japanese and Localized canon that I thought were interesting! Except obviously they won't always be centered around Maya (😭) and they won't be posted daily. As much as I love doing these posts, they do take a lot of time--which is ironic because I did them thinking they would be faster than drawing. Whoops.

Anyway here's a photo of me reading the Turnabout Airport light novel to fulfill the Maya May quota.
