“Arya had named her after the warrior queen of the Rhoyne, who had led her people across the narrow sea.”
I love that this is the first detail that we get about Nymeria from Arya’s perspective. The show made Arya’s icon Visenya, and while I’ll agree it was a good opportunity for a lore dump, I feel like Nymeria gets to the core of Arya’s character in a way Visenya just doesn’t. Yes, Nymeria was a warrior. Yes, she and her people eventually fought against Valyria, but the thing Nymeria is known for is her ten thousand ships:
“Legend tells us that Nymeria took ten thousand ships to sea, searching for a new phome for her people beyond the long reach of Valyria and its dragonlords. Beldecar argues that this number was vastly inflated, perhaps as much as tenfold. Other chroniclers offer other numbers, but in truth no true count was ever made. We can safely say there were a great many ships. Most were river craft, skiffs and poleboats, trading galleys, fishing boats, pleasure barges, even rafts, their decks and holds crammed full of women and children and old men. Only one in ten was remotely seaworthy.”
-TWOIAF
This is the most blatant historical parallel of the pack mentality that Arya holds dear to in she entire story. It didn’t matter if the ships were seaworthy, it didn’t matter who was in them; the Roynar were her people and she was getting them out of there.
Like,
“Gendry and Hot Pie were city-born, and in the city smallfolk walked. Yoren had given them mounts when he took them from King's Landing, but sitting on a donkey and plodding up the kingsroad behind a wagon was one thing. Guiding a hunting horse through wild woods and burned fields was something else.
She would make much better time on her own, Arya knew, but she could not leave them. They were her pack, her friends, the only living friends that remained to her.”
Of course Nymeria is Arya’s hero!!
Yes, the name of Arya’s wolf does show her gender non-conformity and her rejection of a traditional “lady’s” role. However (and imo more importantly), it shows that, to Arya, “warrior” is synonymous with “protector.”

I do understand some people don’t want to see any criticism of the show, but many of us like to analyze and critique the books and that obviously extends to the show as well, both on its own and as an adaptation. But most of us really enjoy the show as well even if we have criticisms of it. This is not reddit or twitter and the people on tumblr critiquing the decisions that show makes are not doing so in an effort to tear down the show but because that is how we like to interact with media and the text.
And I get that people are wary of complaints/critiques about the show after the racist and misogynistic campaigns against season 1, but that does not mean that all criticism of the show is coming from a place of hatred. And I think it’s natural with an adaptation that people will want to address what changes they didn’t (and did!) like and that’s okay!!

it’s incredible how YouTubers who brand themselves as “analysis” channels consistently just basically repeat what happens in the video scene for scene but shittier, and then when they “present their findings” they say absolutely nothing of substance. And these kind of videos are always 8 times longer than they need to be

I think the reason I hate NWO so much besides the fact Hulk Hogan is mega lame and just sucks as a wrestler is. Like. It doesn’t make sense. It wants to be the other, it wants to be rebellion, but it’s not. NWO is everyone (seriously why is every wrestler in the NWO)… and it’s fucking cheesy to have your boss also be in your like.. fake punk group. It’s cringe.
Like. You want me to take your New Order serious? When Hulk Hogan and Eric Jerk Off are sucking each other off saying how great they are???
DX (the original iteration) worked so well and resonated with so many people because they were hating and dunking on their boss, not enough to get fired, but enough to make a statement. To say look at us. We think you suck but we have to work under you. We’re gonna cause trouble in our own way to get under your skin.
Idk NWO could’ve been something and it’s kinda like a nothing burger to me and it makes me upset cause there’s always potential in everything I think. It just takes the right people to pull out that potential.
ALSO IF YOU LIKE NWO IM HAPPY FOR YOU!!’ I’m glad you’re able to enjoy something! It’s just not for me :3

if i’m being honest i’m not 100% sure what longlegs was supposed to be “saying” about the clinton administration, i’ve seen other ppl referring to this vaguely in their commentary on the movie and it makes me scratch my head a little because besides that giant ass photo they had of him in the fbi guy’s office i really don’t feel like it made a lot of overt connections to that time period politically beyond it obviously addressing and being connected to the satanic panic movement but even that feels a bit off the mark to me because i associate that movement much more strongly with the 70s/80s?? (although checking on it i am seeing that it “died down” in the early 90s so like. okay I GUESS.)
anyways maybe i’m just stupid but i am just sort of confused by this idea that’s being perpetuated by various people that it has smth to say about bill clinton & his presidency specifically. like they didn’t even mention him directly even once in the movie it’s just that giant poster looming in the background TJ Eckleberg style and maybe that’s really all that people mean when they say it’s about the clinton administration. but in my opinion the film is much more focused on general (and um. vague LOL) themes of familial abuse and “satanism” than anything else. so what gives
