HELP I was writing a TMA fic I have been working on for a while when I suddenly thought of a kindergarten au with Gertrude Robinson as the teacher and Gerard Keay and Michael Shelley as the teacher assistants.

Long story short, now I'm procrastinating writing my fic and making kindergarten au art instead

That giant feeling of wanting to escape constant perception, view, judgement from others, the inescapable pain of being noticed, always, and just trying to find somewhere-- anywhere-- where you can be alone in the quiet. Finding a place where you can just be large and loud and wild and clumsy without constantly having to fear consequences to anything but yourself. To be able to turn off the need for extreme concern, of the necessary micro-managing (heh) that comes with having to exist around people so much smaller than you. They may love you, they may care about you, but in a world built for them and not for you, they can't truly provide you a place to be yourself. How far would you need to go to be unheard if you screamed or yelled? How desolate a place would you need to find where you can be absolutely sure that there'd be no one there for you to upset, scare, or hurt by accident as you try to unwind and remember all of yourself? There are moments you wish it could be the opposite of how it is-- how you wish you could be small enough to hide behind a bookshelf or under a dresser, go completely unnoticed by those around you-- rather than to be this thing that somehow seems to always be in the periphery at the absolute least, and always in the direct gaze of innumerable people at worst. How free are you to truly to be yourself when there are no moments of privacy? Where everyone sees all of you, all the time, and you have to behave accordingly to that? You can't escape their conclusions of you anymore than you can escape their perceptions. The picture they paint of you gets clearer and clearer to them every moment, and you have to suffer through the inescapability of that.

Happy Queer Media Monday!

Today: Other Ever Afters: New Queer Fairy Tales by Melanie Gillman

*sigh* I’m back, trying to stay back. This book is awesome.

Other Ever Afters is a graphic novel that groups together comics originally published online. They are all female-centric queer fairy tales that twist the stories usually told to young girls. They center community over royalty, and the “monsters” are often on the protagonists’ side. 

Melanie Gillman is an award-winning artist who has worked on a number of queer comic books, both original fiction and as parts of a franchise. More importantly, you know her stories from social media. What first caught my attention in this book was that it contained two stories I’d seen shared around on Tumblr.

Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

Watched The Host (2016) for the first time and I have some thoughts:

This soundtrack deserves a better movie

In concept it's.... not built for a visual medium. In the hands of a really really good author (not meyer) it could be interesting but. I assume the story was supposed to be Wanderer discovering the good in humans and their inherent worth despite their flaws? Which is fine and all but if I'm not in her head then I'm still coming from this as a human who already believes that so... Now I get to hear not enough of her thoughts on the matter and just sort of watch her stare at normal people being normal in a post-apocalyptic cave sanctuary.

I couldn't tell the male leads apart so I felt nothing for either of them. They barely had any personality to distinguish them and they were both conventionally attractive white guys. So if the movie was banking on the romance angle it failed hard.

Wanderer and Melanie had more chemistry than either of them with either of the boys. If it had been an enemies-to-lovers story with them the movie wouldn't have been good but I would have felt something positive while watching it.

In conclusion it's a really annoying movie that just makes me want to listen to Imagine Dragons
