basically i was reviewing floweys true no mercy new home dialogue for reasons, and saw this, and went WAIJT IVE SEEN THAT WORDS BEFORE and so went and scrubbed thru a true pacifist playthrough for the true lab tapes

JUDGEMENT

The last corridor is probably a pretty common subject in UT fan art but I decided to attempt it anyway because I wanted to test my lighting and perspective skills~

I have two different headcanons that I like indulging in when it comes to Flowey's death at the end of No Mercy.

The first is that, while he's pouring his heart out to Chara about how he became like this and how he'd actually be fine with a little house on the surface so long as they're there and how badly he missed them...he's assuming that they're there and listening. But he's wrong.

Perhaps this heartfelt speech would've worked on Chara. But though Chara has helped out this whole time and been present, right now it's 100% Frisk. And Frisk is deeply unamused that while they're threatened and taunted and assaulted, Chara is the only one to get special treatment and even empathy from this flower.

The other headcanon is that it is indeed Chara who deals the killing blow(s) against Flowey. Why, though? Why would they heartlessly kill their own best friend like that? Is it because he's weak, because they consider him a traitor? Because they no longer care from him at all, or desire the LV from the kill?

Or...perhaps there's another reason.

"That power. I know that power. That's the power you were fighting to stop, wasn't it? The power I wanted to use. [...] Well, that's all. See you later...Chara."

"But, you and I are not the same, are we? This SOUL resonates with a strange feeling. There is a reason you continue to recreate this world. There is a reason you continue to destroy it. You. You are wracked with a perverted sentimentality."

Perhaps, after hearing how the best friend they perhaps once idealized fell from grace and turned the world into his plaything, believing himself above consequences...they were just a teeny bit irritated. An eensy, weensy little bit.

i could talk about the parallels between the dreemurr siblings and the skeleton brothers and how one is more reserved and is closely related to your choices and willing to make the hard choices that their brothers can't while the other is more energetic and refuses to kill even in the face of certain death and is closely tied to belief and hope and how both are so extremely codependent and how the dreemurrs were doomed because of it but the skeletons avoid their fate

but instead i'll just say that chara and sans are joined in "my brother is the coolest" solidarity

80 - The Final Cut

...so, you have made your choice.

Do you remember what I once said, my light? That the bonds you break may make you stronger? And oh, what a brilliant fire you've made from those bridges, as rudely incandescent as the sun itself.

...I can hardly stand to look at it, it stings my eyes so...

For the final time then, let me roll out the red carpet and bid you welcome to my kingdom. No subjects shall resist your entry, as there are none to defend this place... I have to wonder if you planned it that way, but I'm not certain you were even thinking that far ahead. They would not be able to stop you in any case.

I see the twisted sword in your hand, o Lightbringer, its tortured edges baying for something to sunder... but there'll be no satisfaction for you here. Even if I wanted to FIGHT, even if I were capable of standing against you as an equal... that would just be playing into your twisted game, where statistical superiority is all. And it is not a game I have any interest in playing.

So then... will you proceed? Will you reap the bitter harvest of your conquest of this world, and run your sword through my unguarded heart? Will you then march on to plant your flag in the ruins of your hubris...?

...but what am I saying? You've come this far, why stop at the final bump in the road? After all, you and I both know this isn't real, and that none of this even matters... if it ever even did to you in the first place.

And then I suppose you'll go back, wont you? Back to before you broke it all over your knee, just to see if you could. Because you can. And if you can, then why not? Such is the luxury your godhood affords you.

Then all that is left to say is: thank you for playing our game, Lightbringer. I hope that you had fun.

today on twitter i saw someone complain that the no mercy route is repetitive. i said that it's not supposed to be fun, and someone else replied with this:

it is literally suggested in the game itself that you, the player, are killing everyone just for the sake of seeing what happens, just like flowey did in some of his earlier resets. the whole point of the route being tedious is to punish you for your completionist mindset and desire to do everything you can in the game, no matter how cruel. chara takes your soul at the end of the game in order to punish you for insisting on completing the violent route. your morbid curiosity is meant to be reflected upon and questioned
