little known aspects of robodoki/robodoki fun facts

Robodenki Holy Thunder is based on those cartoon electricity gags where you see their skeleton briefly but they're unharmed apart from soot. You know, this one.

Robopixel was originally going to have the ability to teleport to other places via computers (via jumping into one computer screen and popping out of another one, like a network of portals sorta deal) before that was scrapped in favor of the less-overpowered hologram-based robopixel wildcard ability. It would've tied into Pixel's skills with computers.

Robohoshi's apperance is based on a fairytale princess. Roxanne Mirage's design was based on an evil queen, specfically the one from Snow White. This is not a coincidence, nor is the similarities to that and the evil mirror Mikuro.

The sub attacks that the robodoki gang have are based on the sub attacks from Happiness Charge Precure

The robodoki gang can see the attacks they're going to do and various other stats in their visiors/shades, in a similar vein to iron man's suits.

haha finally debuting my magical girl marvels au! i was thinking of a manga cover while making this; i really wanted it to have a kinda hyperpop and sailor moon style.

So! In my version of this AU, the Marvels travel through different dimensions to fight the forces of evil to balance the multiversal scale! They do this, via train! The train is usually a subway, but it magically adapts to the dimensions they are in. (Ex. Submarine Looking Train for a mainly water dimension, an old style train for a dimension with a earlier timeline.)

Billy Batson is a Train Conductor! I based his outfit on those train conductor uniforms and I really like it. His main base powers are, of course, lighting, and the ability to make portals! He uses the portals in his fighting style, dodging with portals instead of blocking attacks. Billy can only teleport to a mirror dimension without the aid of the train, so he actually teleports to the mirror dimension in fights when he dodges, then portals back to the og dimension. The train boosts his powers so his ability to travel to the mirror dimension is enhanced, and he can travel to other dimensions when using the train. (Other then that, its a basic portal power lol)

Mary’s design was inspired by fairy tale princes, which is actually really random but I made it work. I wanted the three of them to be different genres of magical girls, but still fit look like they are in the same style. Her base powers in this AU is basically charisma (yes, literal charms), and lightning. So, her charisma powers are pretty much just that people will be more inclined to do things her way; she lets off an aura of power + confidence that no one can say no to (besides Billy and Freddy, they are immune). She also will look extremely intimidating to people when she wants to. So in a nutshell, her power is to change the way people perceive her, and use that to her advantage. Mary often uses this to do undercover work, or info gathering about the dimension they are in.

Freddy, is a mermaid based magical girl. He can shift between having a mermaid tail and his legs. His base powers are hydrokinesis (ability to control water) and (can you guess it?) lightning! Though not shown here, Freddy actually uses water to float himself around. The water is thinly covered over his body and he uses that to get around without his crutches. He learned how to do this after seeing how he can float in the water when swimming. Freddy doesn’t do this all the time because it requires a lot of control and it can tire himself out. He used to do it all the time, but once in a battle, he shifted all his focus into the fight and lost control of the water that makes him float. Freddy learnt to not completely rely on his powers all the time after that. I’ll go more into this specific event later bc I think this scenario would really impact how Freddy sees his disability, and how he learns to accept it. I imagine this Freddy is more recently disabled and that he still has bitter feelings about it. The thing with Freddy’s dad in the boat still happened (they got attacked by one of Billy’s enemies), and that’s when he got his leg injury. He met Billy that way and got his powers. (Basically just how CM3 got his powers.. idk why im explaining it)

The thing is that I, myself, am not disabled so I need a bit of help understanding what that would be like to accurately write Freddy’s struggles with his disability. 😭

Another thing is that I’m not sure what their hero names would be? I tried doing those precure names like ‘Cure Marvel!’ but that would only work for one of them and I would still need names. Marvel *insert something here* or *something* Marvel is an idea but I wouldn’t know what to put.

Side Note: Nursery Rhymes being adapted is more for Shrek. So they won’t be here- sorry about that. But they do a good job at it. This anthology is meant for readers 12 and up, due to some of the themes in some of the stories.

Futari Wa Precure / The Two Of Us Are Pretty Cure! (2004-2005)

Classic. Gay. One of the big recommendations, equivalent to Kuuga, the one the tokusatsu server I'm in insisted upon as the best start and one of the best shows. The big yuri season with the big famous opposites-attract two-sides-of-the-same-coin pairing, it also started Precure's whole glorious bit of being magical girls who fight with full hand to hand combat and stick to walls like spiderman. Cards will never stop haunting me; the henshin devices are flip phones that accept swipeable cards, and also contain cellphone greachers.

Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure (2019-2020)

Recommended by my friend, this precure is a space road trip (something i fucking love so much) with alien precures, musical transformations, a Lisa Frank aesthetic, and a mix of scifi elements in with the magical girl standard that defines Pretty Cure! Space magical girls, what's better than that? The other themes are astrology and imagination, potentially toqger-style, and the henshin device is a colored pen.

Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! / Witchy Pretty Cure! (2016-2017)

Recommended to me by the tokusatsu server (though they insisted on Futari Wa) as a good starter precure, Mahoutsukai Precure is about two witches and a Hobbesian teddy bear (that is also a henshin device!) and a fairy fighting dark magicians and hopping between a mundane world and a magical world. Also the opening seems to be referencing the same song meter as Catarina Claes's anime??? What's the reference. Hm.

Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure (2020-2021)

My friend's second recommendation, this one has excellent character dynamics and a consisently increasing scale of quality plus a funny mermaid and a mascot that is literally just a normal seal. It seems to have more commitment to the Makeup Bit:tm: than other precures, its core theme is motivation, and the henshin device is a mirror compact.

Wanderful Pretty Cure! (Now)

It’s the currently airing installment!!!! This would have backlog at the start but essentially become a weekly liveblog. What if a dog could b a magical girl. An actual dog. And several other animals and humans. The core theme is being friends with animals and with other people, and the henshin device is a mirror compact.

Weapon item: Her gloves with like knuckle protectors? Her bare fists? She sprays her perfume over her gloves and they become big and shiny and she basically punches her way through her troubles <3

Weapon item: Bow and arrows. Her mirror shatters - the handle of it turns into her bow, the shattered pieces become the arrows. She's also able to shift her arrows into other forms, specifically water and ice.

Transformation item: A watch. Joe made it <3 and it broke and froze at the time when Joe died </3 but it got fixed with Jhost's lime green magic filling in the cracks <3 It's like Yes 5's transformation.

Weapon item: Ribbons! They burst out from her watch, something about turning back time, something about the hands of her watch extending to form multiple ribbons.

Pearl: "The chaos of creation and the clash between shadow and colour! Cure Moon!"

Transformation item: A camera. It takes different snapshots of her, and every time it takes a photo, that part of her transforms. Something about Pearl wanting to capture the joy of creation but was unable to do so in her villain era. Something about becoming her new self with flashes of light. The camera doesn't record her old life, it creates her new life.

Weapon item: A paintbrush and a palette! Colours get extracted from the iridescent lens. She's able to create illusions and attacks.

Gem: "The bravery of creation and the delight of dreaming! Cure Birch!"

Transformation item: A charm bracelet. It represents the wishes of all the people from the Hermit Kingdom. Some charms on the bracelet are wooden (representing home and nature), some are gemstones (representing Gem herself), some are metal (representing strength and battle), etc etc.

Weapon item: A sword! One of the gemstone charms in her bracelet becomes the gem embedded in her big sword. She also has the cool effect of stretching out her hand and letting the sword materialise from her bracelet.

Wonderful Precure First Impressions!

I stayed up until way past my bedtime for the reveal (it was hard, I'm way too much of a morning person for this). I'll go go character by character first:

Cure Wonderful/ Kumogi

She is indeed a dog! And a cute one, the plushie leaks didn't do her justice. She's Friendy's pet, but i wonder if she's a magical dog that ended up as a pet, our if she's similar too Mofurun i.e. a normal dog that acquired speech/a human mind recently. I love her civilian design, it's really fun and cute, i love the ponytail.

Cure Friendy/ Iroha

When I first saw the leaks I was afraid that she was going to be too close to Mashiro in terms of personality, and we would have a similar dynamic with the lead than last season, but i was completely wrong! She looks like a pretty extroverted and energetic character! Also i like that she have a pretty different hairstyle than her cure form. She gave her last name to Kumogi, so I'm guessing they'll end up with a sibling like dynamic?

Cure Niammy:

Most likely a white cure with a blue subcolor. Probably my favorite design, she looks like she has a fun personality too, a bit full or herself. She's definitely the white cat Yuki-chan, even if it hasn't been confirmed yet. I'm very curious to see her civilian design too!

Cure Lillian:

Obviously she's Mayu. She look maybe a little bit older than Iroha. On the promo pic she's taking pictures of Yuki-chan so I'm expecting her to be the kind of person that is obsessed with taking picture of their pets (she's just like me for real).

Miscellaneous :

So we have those to character Satoru and Daifuku, and it once again it's pretty obvious who our midseason cure(s) will be. I'm expecting Satoru to have a similar supportive role to Ageha in the early episodes and to become a cure on his own later. Like Toei is going to pass the occasion to make a bunny themed character/mascot! And his outfit is suspiciously color themed (There's a quote on Cure Soleil's Wiki page where that says that yellow/orange cures are bit more free to be experimental than the pink and purple who have to be more marketable, so I think that's why he'll have a similar color to Wing). His design instantly reminded me of Yukito from Card Captor Sakura, and apparently the character designers does a lot of Clamp fanart that might actually be an inspiration.

The kirarin animals are the other mascot that will be included in this year tamagochi like toy. I'm expecting them to have a similar role to the star princesses or the elements spirits and that they will give the cures specific powers to collect as they rescue them etc.

About the merchandise it seems that we're getting different transformation item/wand for each pairs (RIP to the collectors wallet), so no hope to find the Mid season cure there, it's probably absent from the mirror pad update, just like majesty was, so it seems that they're hiding them well... The wonderful pact is really pretty I love how shiny it is!

There seems to be a lot of women in the staff this year which is really cool to see!

I think the season looks super adorable, and i can't wait for it to start!

Background:

Kaida is born to Misako and Garmadon, unfortunately due to Garmadon's descent into darkness Misako didn't have a choice but abandoned her kids at the Boarding School for Bad Boys and it's sister school Boarding School for Bad Girls to protect them for him.

Her life there is absolute hell cause the majority of them have bullied her daily like splashing water at her, throwing food, pushing her down the stairs and even went as far as putting poison into her food.

And if anything she doesn't really care anymore and became numb to the pain, she ran away overnight and accidentally bumped into a mirror deep into the woods and ended up in Twisted Wonderland.

She was founded by a lovely couple named Aiko, Hiiragi and their daughter Charlotte, and ended up being adopted by them.

But unfortunately happiness didn't last long as the Gravedawn Village ended up being attacked and her parents being killed, leaving her and Charlotte as the sole survivors of the attack, which is worse when both of them we're 6 when the village was attacked.

Luckily they were rescued by Lilia and ended up being raised in the Valley of Thorns.

Both her and Charlotte ended up coming PreCure at the age of 13 but it only lasted for 3 years before Charlotte died due to an attack leaving Kaida all alone.

Personality:

Kaida is a calm, deadly quiet and almost emotionless girl who only spoke a few words and very difficult person for people to make her angry.

However she wasn't always like that, during her youth she used to be a shy and timid girl but because of the treatment she got when she was in BSFBG she slowly became like this.

She has a sense of justice and has good intentions but she doesn't know how to execute them properly.

He's also a skate punk who masquerades as a student council president, but that's a story for another day. You can just call him Flip or Dai for short.

Summary:

Many years ago a butterfly named Vanessa created different words, each with different types of magic. One world, however, did not have this and was the center of the universe. Vanessa reins over her own world, as the Empress of Crystal Empire.

But one day, a hedgehog named Diabolos was not happy with this. So he created words that were formed around the negative of each word. And one by one each positive world fell.

But when each world fell a Cure would be born. A cure was a person who can transform into a legendary warrior. The respected ruler of each world would send out one or multiple Cure Chaos, Flickies, or Spirits to search out chosen people to take up the role of Pretty Cure.

However one day, Diabolos, fed up with losing, attacked the Crystal Empire. With the last of her energy, she sealed him away in a mirror and soon she faded away. Even though their leader was gone the Black Crystal Empire still fought and this is where our story begins…

Wonderful Precure Episode 23 - Tanabata and a Howl

Ya.......it's a story progression episode as we get more lore and hints to the mysterious foe behind the Garugaru Animals and it's a sad story, which makes sense given the theme of living with animals this season has.

they came across a shrine that had a line up of small animal statues, and the Cures did not notice they matched up with the Kirarin Animals they had been saving they were also told there is an old shrine further up the mountain and deeper in the woods, and that the area used to be home to wolves, but they went extinct 100 years ago (they had to explain to the young dog Komugi what extinction means in kid friendly terms)

meanwhile the episode had started with Komugi in a field with the magical Mirror Stone shining brightly……while a wolf howled in the distance from a mountain and the episode ended with a shot of an old and neglected shrine…..and a malevolent spirit growling inside it I am very concerned now about the chance of Komugi, Yuki or Daifuku getting turned into a Garugaru. >.> I also think this Wolf Spirit is possibly a Lost Kirarin Animal. Kirarin Wolf, you could say.

We pick up from last week's Hamster Garugaru two-parter for a just really, really good episode about Mayu, her fears, and her relationship with Yuki.

We kick off with a bunch of cutely-illustrated Japanese turns of phrase, most of which were new to me, and all of which are animal based. This has minimal relevance to the rest of the episode, but I mention it because it's cute.

We also meet the evil general for only the second time, though once again he simply encourages the garugaru to Be Angry while giving it some new powers, advice it has no problem taking. The animators deserve some credit here for making a goddamn hamster seem like a credible threat (and for making Yuki seem genuinely threatening in turn when she trash talks it a bit later in the episode), what a feat.

Given that this episode is called "The Birth of Cure Lilian", it's no surprise that Mayu's Cure alter ego debuts here, but we actually get an explanation of that name in the episode itself. Mayu's mother mentions a lily-yarn that Mayu made for her when she was young as an example of Mayu imparting positive emotions and experiences to other people. Given some flashbacks early in the episode and, really, her entire previous existence in this series, it seems like this is a hard thing for Mayu to believe. She's honestly *so* scared of *everything* that it makes her come off as having an actual anxiety disorder of some kind. Same, girl!

This all makes it that much worse when the garugaru, using its newly-granted ability to shrink Komugi, Iroha, and Yuki to the point that they're too tiny to be a threat. This leaves Mayu alone against the garugaru when she comes across Yuki.

Standing her ground even in this frankly pretty scary situation---because she's even more scared of losing Yuki than she is of the garugaru---allows Mayu, through the magic of the Mirror Stone, to become a Precure herself, and with that, our core team of four is complete.

I still like Yuki just a bit better as a character (I have a weakness for bitchy catgirl's from this franchise idk), but Mayu's transformation into Cure Lilian might actually be even more drastic than Yuki's into Cure Nyammy. It is relatively rare that a magical girl transformation feels so truly transformative. As much as I love them, one gets the sense that Komugi, Iroha, and Yuki are basically the *same people* as Cure Wonderful, Cure Friendy, and Cure Nyammy. This isn't really the case with Mayu. With the Mirror Stone's power, Lilian becomes everything she couldn't be without it. Graceful, strong, courageous, a protector. It's fantastic, and her voice actress Ueda Reina absolutely pours her whole heart into her performance in this episode to help sell it.

After the garugaru is defeated and turned back into a hamster fairy, Mayu and Yuki reconcile in a genuinely really sweet moment of teary-eyed reaffirmation. They want to stay together, so they will, no more to it than that.
