Warning: I had never seen any of the Star Wars movie. I only read fics of it....uhh so sorry about that.

Star Wars AU

Tobirama ducked beneath the rock that practically dwarfed a patch of greenery he found as a shelter in the vast desert. He knew that landing in this little planet far away from his destination is a huge mistake on his part. Just because he felt a wick of a child who's developing Force sensitivity...it doesn't mean he had to quickly retrieve said child without a backup even.

Now, he found himself cursing as several platoons of Uchi'ha's started to chase him. He hasn't even assume that several dozens of the warrior Clan would even visit this tiny planet. It boggles his mind as to what they were doing here....

Tobirama flatten himself as he felt five Uchi'ha had passed by his hiding place. He gritted his teeth, if he can run without being spotted for at least a few meters more he could latch on his Hiraishin markers so he could safely ride his ship again and get the hell out of this Uchi'ha infested planet.

When he was sure that the five Uchiha are several meters away from his position. Tobirama leapt to his feet as fast as possible and run like his body was on fire.

A minute later, he stiffen in surprise and he made a frantic leap to his left as he felt the air behind him being displaced as a sign of a weapon nearly cleaving him in half passes him by.

Tobirama snarled under the hood he was wearing as he face his attacker. The Uchi'ha had a long mane of black hair that spike in every which direction. But his face was covered with a mask that differ with the Uchi'ha he had seen. This one wore an Oni looking mask with two faces on it. The stranger wore an elaborate armor and is wielding a Gunbai. He is shorter than Tobirama. But the large gorge he had made on the ground tells Tobirama that if he hadn't successfully dodge that underhanded attack he could have been dead in just a second. ( His brother would have surely despaired if he died in the middle of bum fuck no where. )

The Albino shuddered in fear as the red glow of the mask eyeholes brightly lit up.

" What business does a Jedi needs in my territory?. "

Tobirama furrowed his brows. He hadn't known that this little planet was an Uchi'ha territory. If he had known he had never step foot on it, regardless if there's a child that needs him.

" Nothing. I only landed in here to chart it. I had never seen this little planet upclose. I am sorry if I disturb you all. I would leave quietly. There is no need to harass me. " he lied boldy. The Uchi'ha was only hostile because Tobirama had landed in their little territory. He really hope that the man would accept his bold face lie.

The Uchi'ha tilted his head and studied Tobirama's face. " Figures, Such bold faced lies easily fell from a Human's lips. Your kind lies as easily as you breath. You will never leave this planet alive, Jedi!. "

Tobirama scowled. He didn't want to fight. But he had to because he could sense the Uchi'ha's blood lust in the air. He leapt backwards in haste as the man quickly leapt towards him with the intent on cleaving him with his oversized Gunbai.

The Albino called the Force to aid him in stopping the Uchi'ha. He threw several big icicles ( much larger than his own height ) at the man, but the Uchi'ha easily slices it in half as if they were made of sheet of papers. Tobirama frowns; he called his Water Dragons and directed them to attack the charging Uchi'ha. But before his Water Dragons could swallow the man....

The Uchi'ha's mask quickly click open and the man's mouth spewed a great black fire the likes Tobirama had never seen. His eyes widen as the resulting explosion surprisingly blew him off of his feet.

Tobirama flew backwards a few meters away and he hack his lungs out as the gritty sand entered his mouth and nose. With teary eyes, he slowly stood on his shaking feet and he eyed in trepidation the Uchi'ha that was running to determinedly chase him again.

The Albino quickly pivoted on his heels and run the opposite direction. He's outclassed with the man's surprising ability. He cannot hope to beat the man with his own techniques. He would die in this desert if he tried to fight this unknown Uchi'ha.

Just only a seconds he could feel his Hiraishin Markers again. This monster of Uchi'ha would be left behind in this hellhole as soon as Tobirama can latch on his ship's Marker.

As soon as he saw the outcropping of rocks in front of him. He leapt up and climb it in haste. He also planted some little surprised bombs to slow down his pursuer. He could feel the man's presence was a few steps away from him and Tobirama shuddered in fright if the man ever caught him.

As he prepared to jump down, Tobirama's short breath was suddenly knocked out of his lungs as tons of pounds heavily drop on top of him. He wheezed painfully as the Uchi'ha clamp his one broad hand tightly on his neck.

" Strange, I hadn't even known there is A Blessed for a Jedi. Tis a scenario I wouldn't dare dream for myself. " Tobirama eyes widen as the man's gloved fingers carefully traces his eyelids, the skin beneath his eyes and his temples.

Tobirama tried to buck the man off of him. But his futile struggles only brought amuse chuckles out of the stange Uchi'ha.

" Struggle all you want my dear Blessed. You will never escape me for I won't allow it. You are mine in this day forward till the day we die. "

Tobirama glared weakly and he had only had a second to realize that he can finally latch on his Hiraishin marker before the man could put a suppression collar on him.

Aa soon as he landed inside his ship he tiredly leaned on the console and hack repeatedly to expel the remaining sand in his nose and lungs. He trembled in fear as he recalled the enrage bellow the man had let out as he successfully escape him. He really hope he does not encounter him again.

He knew he wouldn't successfully escape the second time around if the Uchi'ha decided to chase after him again.

He absolutely would've been an Animal Jam kid, if the timeline of his character wasn't based in the early 2000s. He'd be the type of player who scams people out of their rares and hacks into the website to give himself glitched magenta items. We also know from his interviews that he likes roleplaying, so I'd bet my left leg that he'd be the type to join those Clan/Pack roleplay groups- you know, the ones that had those weirdly professional looking pages on the AJ Clans Wiki?

So yeah, my definitive answer is Animal Jam Kid.

But, if anything, I think he'd be more into other MMOPRG-type browser games, like World of Warcraft or Adventure Quest Worlds or Runescape, or maybe even Wizard 101. Since Noah's canonically a "Kosmic Kaos" kid, which- from what little information we're given about it from his interviews- is apparently an online MMOPRG sort of deal. Also, as someone who experienced the thread-ends of the 2000s era "browser" game scene, I think Noah would've loved games like MapleStory or FeralHeart.

Old Bad Movies I Enjoyed Recently (And So Can You!)

TUFF TURF (1985) I am torn about Tuff Turf, because this short movie is confused in tone, bouncing between badly written romance, teen shenanigans like crashing the buffet tables of country clubs, rad rock concerts, and...oh... intimate partner violence and attempted murder. James Spader is a bicycle vigilante rocker who gets on the bad side of his new school's local bully/gang leader. Things do not improve when Spader also decides that he simply must charm said gang leader's girlfriend. What tension!

Honestly, the only reason this movie sticks with me is the presence of a young Robert Downey Jr, who is, I apologize to say, fucking hot. He plays the drums at a rock concert shirtless using handcuffs as belts for his leather pants. Look it up. Rather than the main romance, the more interesting chemistry is the friendship of RDJ's and Spader's characters (insert Ultron fanfic joke here), which borders on the intensely homoerotic. Really, Tuff Turf makes me yearn for a more interesting film that would have removed the "fighting over a girl" element of the story and just had RDJ and Spader as rad rocker/vigilante boyfriends partners.

IRON EAGLE (1986) This movie about fighter jets actually predates Top Gun by a few months - only instead of Tom Cruise and very heterosexual volleyball matches it's about a group of military brats living on a US Military base. The main character's dad is a pilot who was shot down over a non-specific (but definitely evil) Middle Eastern country, but since the mean adults don't want to do anything, it's up to the kids to steal an F-16 fighter jet and rescue him! This film is only the Purest 80s Reagan Americana where you get to see classic Teen Movie shenanigans evolve into "and then the main character committed war crimes."

A ridiculous, awful film. Did this movie change my life? Possibly.

AMERICA 3000 (1986) A strange, weird, absurd film set in the post apocalypse, where nuclear war has set humans back to the stone age and Amazon women rule over (mostly) intellectually inferior men. My friends and I couldn't decide whether the slang they invented and used copiously in this film was annoying or not. Hilariously, it being in the 80s, the dumbest thing about this whole film is that despite the tyrannical Amazons hating men and only reluctantly using them for breeding, this film also stubbornly refuses to acknowledge even a hint of the existence of homosexuality. Which is probably a blessing, to be honest.

I found it tolerably bizarre enough to watch. Once. Your results may vary.

HACKERS (1995) We now jump into the 90s, and have you heard of these new-fangled things called computers? Standing out as one of Angelie Jolie's earliest movies and a real breakout role for her (it's also where she meets her future ex-husband, Johnny Lee Miller - who most people on this site will recognize as Sherlock Holmes in Elementary). The movie is essentially about a group of high-school hackers with ridiculous handles who run afoul of a corporate conspiracy, are framed, and must dodge the Secret Service while trying to clear their names. But the plot doesn't really matter all that much. What makes this movie shine is the dialogue, the characters, the costumes, and the✨ vibes ✨. This movie is a cult classic for a reason, and the queer coding of all the hackers is undeniable to a modern audience.

It's not a good movie, but its imperfections are what make it so strange, hilarious, and unique. I felt the oddest sense of nostalgia watching this movie, despite the fact that the bizarre pseudo-futuristic world it depicts never actually existed. It made such an impression that I instantly acquired a physical copy of Hackers after my first viewing of it. Hack the Planet!

Space Truckers (1996) To round us off we have Dennis Hopper starring in this film with surprisingly good production values (for the time) failing utterly at everything it attempts to do. Ostensibly about down-to-earth (ha) blue collar space truckers just trying to make an honest living hauling goods across a solar system being increasingly corporatized and hostile to independent workers.

Throw in an evil corporation, space pirates, and a plot to overthrow earth's government with night-unstoppable killer robots, and you have all the elements for what could be a decent movie, but none of them really mesh and are soured by some pretty uncomfortable "romance" elements that have not aged well.

It's a movie that fails in so many ways, but it is at least interesting in its attempt. The people who made Space Truckers took a risk, and in this age of constant sequels and reboots even a failure like this feels...refreshing.

Now Is the Perfect Time to Watch Some Movies Set in 2024

Now that we've made it to the new year, why not enjoy some old visions of it? I at least love to start the first few weeks of a year by going through the films set in the new year, as listed marvellously by Wikipedia.

Because I'm interested in old visions of the now-present, I usually skip movies that were produced in the last ten years. Because these usually don't provide very bold predictions. This criterion leaves the following seven entries for a Get Ready for '24 watchlist:

Beyond the Time Barrier. A 1960 time travel flick. Never heard of it. A quick look at the plot reminds me of Return to the Planet of the Apes. Which I kinda liked for its batshit abstrusity. Anyway, the movie is short and exactly what I'm looking for. So I'll definitely try to somehow get my hands on it.

A Boy and His Dog. This 1975 movie likely is the most notorious of this list. Not sure how well the film has aged, but it has been loitering on my to do list for years now, so the stars are aligned as good as never before.

Highlander II: The Quickening. Very likely to be the worst movie of this list. Haven't seen it yet, I think (or I forgot it after watching). And I haven't heard anything good of it, but at least it tells a story related to climate change. Which is better than nothing, I guess.

The Thirteenth Floor. I absolutely l o v e the German TV movie "World on a Wire", and Thirteenth Floor is a remake of this. I watched it once, but before seeing World on a Wire. So although Thirteenth Floor has only on small bit of its plot actually taking place in 2024, I really look forward to a rewatch of this 1999 production.

.hack//The Movie. A 2011 CGI anime movie. Never heard of it, but why not.

Underworld: Awakening and Underworld: Blood Wars. I remember liking the first Underworld movie, and I don't recall much of the other four films. So I think I'll use the final two installments playing in 2024 as an excuse for a rewatch of the whole series.

Narcopolis. This is a 2015 movie, so my Older Than Ten Years rule technically disqualifies this entry. But I'm quite intrigued by the story of a UK that has all drugs legalized. So I'll give it a watch.

Even more Danny Phantom headcanons and Pink Astronaut headcanons.

Danny Fenton was mostly rasied by his sister Jazz. His parents barely pay attention to him. And when they do they're either overcompensating and being suffocating or they compare him to Jazz. It gets worse the older he gets, and more worse when he becomes Phantom.

Growing up Danny spent a lot of time over at Tuckers house. They've known each other since they were babies.

No point in calling the cops on the Fentons for anything because they have serious government funding. Anything that's serious gets sweeped under the rug when it involves them.

Sam moved to Amity park because she got kicked out of a boarding school for stalking(and harassing) boy who didn't like her back and was her friend. Her parents manage to pay the school off and the boys parents. This is Sam's big dark secret. She gets jealous and possessive very easily. She has issues, trouble letting go and dislikes anyone who disagrees with her.

Danny before the accident got good grades. Not as good as Jazz, but Danny is not stupid. He's good at math and science, and loves art class. Is other classes he got Bs. After the accident he's sleeping in all his classes. Skipping school. Or getting to class late. His grades of course are affected. Danny's still smart. And once a few people know. Things get better.

Danny still sees space. He may not be able to be an astronaut. But he gets to see space and the stars. Mostly because he becomes the ghost king.

Danny didn't want to be ghost king but he eventually does accept the title.

Danny sees clockwork as a father figure/grandfather figure.

Danny's relationship with Paulina is complicated at first because she only knows and loves one part of him. But she does eventually finds out and accepts all of him.

Danny when he grows up fully comes into his power and goes into his roll of ghost king. But he explores space, watches the ghost zone, protects amity park( though now as the ghost king it doesn't need as much guarding) hangs out with his family(Jazz, Ellie, Paulina, Tucker, Clockwork) later starts a life with Paulina.

Danny has always loved space and everything having to do with it. The stars, the moon, the planets the sun. Galaxies and blackholes. Rockets going into space, and the astronauts who go up there.

Paulina loves stars and meteors because of being able to make wishes on them.

Most of the (the little and not always right) knowledge Paulina has of space comes from the sailor moon anime and manga.

Sam hates sailor moon and most anime. She mostly reads a lot Stephen King. But is also a secret Twilight fan.

Sam only develops a crush on Danny after he has ghost powers/after she killed him. She likes his undead appearance and how he's cool now in her eyes. She gets a secret thrill that only she (and Tucker but she doesn't think about that) knows about Danny's full identity.

Tucker doesn't really like Sam. He especially doesn't like her after killing his best friend(twice. One by accident one on purpose).

Tucker is actually really a genius if he applied himself and wasn't just focused on tech and computers, code hacking. Smart enough to skip a couple grades even. But he could never leave his best friend behind.

Tucker owns so much tech and knows so much about it because his parents work in a computer company that creates iphones and laptops/ipads.

Tucker's favorite movie is the Matrix.

Tuckers parents spoil him a little because he's an only child and was their miracle baby. They had him a lot later in life.

Danny was the one who approached Sam and became her friend when they were all 12. He saw that she was all alone and felt bad for her.

In Danny's darkest thoughts and moments he regrets becoming friends with Sam sometimes. Especially after him and Paulina start dating.

Sam really gets bad after he and Paulina start dating. She gets moody. Possessive, and is constantly trying to sabotage their dates. She doesn't really talk to Tucker at all anymore unless they're in a goup thing with Danny, or just hanging out all together. It gets even more worse when Danny tells Paulina who he really is and it ends up working out.

sure hope they plan on flying because that's a long ass drive, even by their standards. and utqiagvik (formerly barrow) is literally the northern most city in alaska/the us. at one point there was a chance my dad could take a job in deadhorse alaska when i was a kid (but we ended up in phoenix instead) which is also extremely far north

Reflective Creative Decision-Making

When it comes to the application of my creative decisions, this project was heavily influenced by various sci-fi movies and games.

For example, in "Star Wars", the different planets each have their unique cultural and fashion characteristics, many of which are inspired by real-world ethnic traditions. Padmé Amidala's outfits, for instance, feature numerous elements from Chinese minority cultures. Similarly, the Jedi robes in the prequel trilogy, including Palpatine's attire, also incorporate a lot of minority cultural elements. These designs deeply influenced me, and I was eager to integrate similar cultural and exotic elements into my own work. The costumes from Star Wars played a significant role in guiding me to blend ethnic art into a sci-fi setting.

On the other hand, the design of robots in video games has also had a profound impact on me. Games not only provide a visually striking experience but also bring robot characters to life through interactivity, giving them depth and personality. For example, in the "Metal Gear" series, players can control highly realistic mechanical warriors and explore the game world through their eyes. This immersive experience made me realize that robot design requires not only intricate visual details but also a strong consideration of their functionality and user experience in a virtual environment.

In my creative exploration, I regularly browse and admire a wide range of works by other artists on ArtStation, particularly those related to robot design. These works not only showcase the artists' exceptional skills and unique perspectives but also offer me a rich source of inspiration. By observing different styles of robot designs, I can see a variety of forms, materials, and functions, ranging from realistic mechanical warriors to futuristic sci-fi creatures. Each piece reflects the creator’s distinctive understanding of future technology, artificial intelligence, and mechanical aesthetics.

This extensive visual input provides me with numerous references and ideas during my creative process. When designing my own robots, I can draw upon these innovative elements and blend them with my style to create unique and personally distinctive works. Additionally, by continuously analyzing and reflecting on the design concepts, color usage, and detail handling in these works, I have gradually developed my aesthetic standards and creative thinking.

Moreover, the community interaction on ArtStation has given me the opportunity to engage with other artists, learn about their creative processes, and understand the stories behind their work. This exchange has broadened my perspective and helped me realize that creativity is a continuous process of learning, reflection, and growth. Each time I learn and draw inspiration from others, it pushes me to break new ground and improve my work.

Through this ongoing observation and reflection, I've noticed that my creative thinking in robot design has become more flexible and diverse. I can now find innovative points within existing styles and am more willing to experiment with different design approaches, allowing me to discover new modes of expression in my work. Ultimately, this process of learning from and absorbing others' creativity has not only enriched the content of my work but also enhanced my creative abilities, propelling me forward in my artistic journey.

Holiday Watch: Santa Claus - The Movie (1985)

Even as a kid, when I saw the trailer for this movie and it looked a little suspicious to me. I don't know what it says that a kid pretty game for whatever looked at this and was like "nah", but I think that gut instinct was dead on.   I would have been 10 when this hit, so I wasn't really the audience, anyway - just old enough to not want to see "a kiddie movie", but it looked like schlock to me at that age, and I just had no interest.  

Apparently neither did Planet Earth, because the movie made about $23 million against an estimated budget between $30 and 50 million.

Flash forward to 2023, and we put this one on and a whole bunch of things became clear immediately.

Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) was produced by the Salkinds, the same shady guys who put together the first three Superman films and Supergirl.  They have their name up there first and foremost, so you know this is an Alexander Salkind joint.  And if you know anything about the Salkinds you know that if you're ethically a little shaky, these are your guys.  

They know how to capture star power, get amazing effects done and make a big, splashy movie.  They also have no concept of what makes a movie actually work, in favor of just hiring big name talent and hoping for the best.  After all, as far as they were concerned, this is what made Superman I and II work.  Not Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz pulling everything together, rewriting the script and making it a coherent movie after drafts from Mario Puzo and the David and Leslie Newman creative dream team.  And they know how to do it while lining their pockets and screwing everyone else.

Well, we have the Newman's back and writing, and boy howdy, is it ever the Newmans.  Unfunny jokes that they go back to over and over (and over), incredibly broad characters and a certain hokey "we're putting on a show" writing style.*  But they came by it honestly - David Newman was partially responsible for Broadway shows like It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman.  Which, if you've ever seen it (and I have) is a meandering mess of a show where they pursued every wrong instinct polite society had about how to deal with genre media.

The Salkinds also brought in director Jeannot Szward, who directed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which makes sense on paper!  He managed to make a classic out of a weird movie about a guy and his factory producing fun stuff for kids.  And they have a score by no less than Henry Mancini and a "hit" single at the end performed by Sheena Easton.**  And, of course, Dudley Moore is our star casting, alongside a blowing up John Lithgow, just off Footloose and a string of hits (I wrongly thought Blow Out was 1984, it's 1981).  Santa is played by The Big Lebowksi's David Huddleston, and Mrs. Claus by Judy Cornwell that only anglophiles will recognize.  Burgess Meredith pops up for no reason.  

So, you can see the thinking.  We have all the elements: can't fail.  Worked for Superman.  

And then they proceed to put forth a clearly wildly expensive, absolutely boring movie that takes a good hour to really get going.  

Basically, we start with Mr. and Mrs. Claus as mere mortals who freeze to death on Christmas Eve, and are resurrected to go live with a cult.  They are treated well, but told "now you will deliver all of these toys we make" which Santa is kind of game for, I guess.  But he has little to no agency - he is literally pressed into service.

The factory, by the way, is an amazing set that makes the Fortress of Solitude look like a hack job.  It's a multi-tiered, all-wood environment with moving parts and covered in toys, elves and colorful detail.  In addition to the expansive environs of the film, the impeccable costuming, all of the effects are fairly top-tier for 1985.  Clearly the Salkinds knew to borrow the flying effects from Superman, perhaps made easier when you can put Santa in a sleigh instead of a harness, but it seems to be a pretty similar set-up.  There are also muppet reindeer that have personality and are part of the story.  And, plenty of optical effects.

Plotwise - it's unclear WHY the elves were already making toys or have this factory.  They say it feels good to give toys away, but they've never done it as far as I can tell.  After all, they have a warehouse full of them.  But they do have reindeer, magical flying powder (more on that later), and an agenda.  So, much as Superman has a lengthy opening sequence, including Krypton and Smallville sequences, as well as the Fortress stuff, this movie thinks Santa needs all that.

He does not.

We're a good hour into this movie before anything like a plot kicks in.  Which is not really how Superman works, but I can see how the mistake was made.  In Superman, you don't see Clark turn into Superman til way, way into the movie, but... plenty occurs with comedy and tragedy and plot tension in that first hour, but not here.  Santa just kind of bumblefucks his way into becoming the Santa we know, including spending *centuries* as the jolly gift-giver before looking at naughty children and  thinking "fuck them kids", taking away their gifts.  With no forewarning, by the way.  

Our plot that eventually surfaces is when Santa (a) promotes his tinkerer pal, Patch (Moore) to be his assistant to help out as the world population explodes.  (b) Patch innovates with an assemblyline, which obviously makes worse toys than by-hand toys.  (c) Those toys suck and break.  (d) People decide the man giving them free toys is a loser after centuries of success.  (e)  John Lithgow plays Dan Aykroyd's character from SNL who sells very dangerous and defective toys.  (f)  Patch goes to work for him after getting demoted and thus leaving the North Pole. (g)  Patch puts cocaine

 magic flying powder into lollipops and hooks kids on the "first one's free" scheme.  (h) Santa immediately wants to quit.

I haven't mentioned the two kids in the film, the very post 1970-streetsmart homeless kid with a bit of a NY accent and then the cherubic girl who lives in a mansion in Manhattan and feeds the homeless kid (successfully, and daily, because no one is paying attention to what this girl is doing).  

Santa meets "Joe" on Christmas Eve and flies him around, but does nothing else for him.  I mean, Santa seems like he could have done *something* to help out this kid, but he just peaces out and is like "see you next year".  Santa, that kid is going to have moved on or be dead.  Meanwhile, turns out Cornelia's uncle is John Lithgow.  

There are incredibly long scenes between Lithgow and Moore that feel like extended cuts of stuff the Salkinds thought worked between Luthor and Otis, but they forgot how Miss Tessmacher provided daffy balance.  Or didn't know.  But, my god, all of it just drags.

And that's the weird thing.  This movie is a full two hours because Act 1 takes an hour.  But when we get to Act 2, no one puts their foot on the gas.  The pacing is murder.  

For all the sets (which are also weirdly and uniformly dark) and costuming and money thrown at this thing, and what feels like thought put into creating a lore for Santa, no one seems to have a feel for what kind of movie this is.  It's not funny despite featuring Dudley Moore, who often seems kind of sad.  It's not upbeat or quirky.  It kind of just keeps happening with sort of joke-shaped moments occurring.  

And, most bizarre, the movie ends not on a December 24th, but in late March, on the recently deployed "Christmas 2", come up with by Lithgow's character to sell more cocaine

 lollipops that allow kids to fly and which, it turns out, will explode violently if placed near a heat source.  

The movie ends with Santa saving Dudley Moore and Joe, there's a pointless bit about missing two reindeer, and the last moment of the movie is Lithgow disappearing into space to die after ingesting too many lollipops as he runs from the cops.  

Christmas.

Look, I've watched some real shit bombs this Christmas, and this one is not the worst, but it sure was trying.  And, most offensively, it was so expensive.  It's a testament to the two most essential things in a film really being a script you can work with and that goes somewhere, and an editor who can try to craft something coherent from whatever wobbling pile they're handed.

The casting of Dudley Moore, famous at this point for playing everyone's favorite raging alcoholic, was weird.  He was oriented to movies for grown-ups, and as a ten-year-old, I remember thinking "that's odd casting" even if I couldn't put my finger on why.  And he's not bad, but he just seems kind of depressed through the whole movie, which was a choice, I guess.  And aside from "Joe", the performances are mostly fine.  And Joe is fine.  He's just... doing the bit in the movie that folks decided had to be in movies for kids until Goonies.  

If there's one note about the visuals, it's weird how old this looks and how much like a modern movie Scrooged looks, coming just a few years later.

For decades I'd been told "not worth it", and, by gum, those friends were just trying to help me.

Anyway, here's Sheena Easton's song.  Try to remember that Sheena Easton is very, very good looking before judging her too harshly.

*there's probably a fascinating career retrospective one could do about the Newmans, because they kind of Forrest Gumped their way through Hollywood as near as I can tell.

Hackers (1995) - Movie Review - Episode 285

Do you remember 1995?  We sure do!  This week as we close out Dystopian, 90's, Sci-fi, Cyber Punk Month, we are revisiting what people thought teens would do with a Packard Bell PC that cost 2k from Circuit City in 1995....HACK THE PLANET!  We're talking about of course Hackers starring Johnny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie.  A movie that we think has some kind of a message, but gets kinda muddled by things like 30 year old actors pretending to be teenagers, Jolt Cola, roller blades, and some pretty insane fashion choices.  But is this movie as bad as some reviewers make it out to be or is it perhaps a cult classic that celebrates young people sticking it to the man....or in this case THE PLAGUE (aka Fisher Stevens). 

So get grab your sunglasses that you wear at night as we check out the "killer refresh rate" of Hackers!
