Poornima - Channe Ke Khet Mein 1994

Anjaam (Consequence) is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language psychological thriller film directed by Rahul Rawail. It stars Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles with an ensemble supporting cast. The film's music was composed by Anand-Milind, with lyrics written by Sameer. The film is about a woman facing the brunt of her obsessive stalker. It also focuses on the atrocities committed against women. At the 40th Filmfare Awards, Anjaam won Khan the Best Villain award for his performance. Madhuri Dixit repeated the iconic dance moves for the song in the 2022 Netflix series The Fame Game when her character meets some fans dancing to it.

Poornima Shrestha was the first successful child singer in Hindi films, and became one of the most prolific female playback singers in Bollywood during the 1990s. She was one of the top-ten selling 1990s artists with her album Mera Dil Bole Piya Piya. I just read your thoughts about Scarabia and Leona's arc development in game, and I got very interested.

There's very little info on Arabian culture online, at least that I've seen, and also African. A thing that makes me very curious is about their mythologies, folklore, and also music. We know a lot about food, since it's something so universal, but the rest is hard to get info on, unless it gets popularized or romanticized by someone else.

The scarabia arc is one of my favorites for a reason, and that is because I'm very sympathetic with Jamil, and very sad how his and Kalim's story together got so "twisted" so fast (ehe). Honestly there are so many layers to it that it would take many many chapters, and events, to close the situation. But I think it's good they left the future open like that, since it's something that can't be fixed overnight.

And also, *gets down* PLS PLS PLS PLS 🙏 I love the fluffy fics, are you going to also add Bolllywood songs? They are so good seriously it's so dancing and fun! I love Jamil so much and I MELTED with the headcanon short fic where we are taking care of him. I wanna hold his precious handsome face and just kiss it all over! He is so cute I will go FERAL-

hey qamar 💕 this was a pleasure to read! honestly, i feel like both the scarabia and savannaclaw chapters were too short? of course, we were introduced to the themes and then the whole conflict—resolution mountain for stories, however i just feel like they could have done more with the both of them.

also, i think the reason why the southwest-asian and african themes aren’t covered is because the source material is literally disney films 💀 like we get a warning before rewatching aladdin since they just now realized it was kind of racist (still a major part of my childhood though 😭 “a whole new world” in arabic is delicious). based on how yana has written other characters that are meant to be from south asia, there’s a big chance it would have been disappointing anyways.

plus, with scarabia in particular, there’s too many cultures trying to be represented due to how colonizers deemed all of the countries to be the same thing in different fonts 💀 you’d never confuse a nepali with an omani, but winston churchill sure did not care.

the original aladdin movie was meant to take place in baghdad, a city in iraq, but due to political conflicts at the time (george bush a war criminal regardless of saddam hussein’s crimes. the usa literally gave saddam weapons to kill kurds and then turned around and invaded when he wasn’t convenient anymore 💀). baghdad became agrabah—but the culture is still an amalgamation of west asian, south asian, north african, and like eurasian/turkish culture. im sure they’ve got stuff from central asia too 😭

the issue with this is that from ethnic group to ethnic group/country to country, the culture varies a lot. yemenis and palestinians are both arabs, but our cultures are vastly different, with yemenis having more eastern african influences and palestinians having mediterranean influences. i personally headcanon the scarabia duo as arab, but honestly, they could be from anywhere. for all we know, kalim is afghan and jamil is tunisian—it’s all up in the air due to the original source material. but i digress!! i rambled a lot 😭

ON THE BOLLYWOOD NOTE! omg this brought so many good memories back. we used to watch bollywood films with shitty arabic dubs 🥹 i miss those days. i love that idea and ive always wanted to write bollywood inspired fics, like based on the crazy and unrealistic romantic moments in bollywood. it’s just so much fun lmao. honestly, i think that’s a great idea especially when so many bollywood songs just lead the listener through a story anyways. im so glad you enjoy my fics!!! that’s very sweet 💕 have a great day, qamar, and take care of yourself

Sanjib Chaudhary chanced upon StoryWeaver, a multilingual children’s storytelling platform, while searching for books he could read to his 7-year-old daughter. Chaudhary’s mother tongue is Kochila Tharu, a language with about 250,000 speakers in eastern Nepal. (Nepali, Nepal’s official language, has 16 million speakers.) Languages with a relatively small number of speakers, like Kochila Tharu, do not have enough digitized material for linguistic communities to thrive—no Google Translate, no film or television subtitles, no online newspapers.    In industry parlance, these languages are “underserved” and “underresourced.”

This is where StoryWeaver comes in. Founded by the Indian education nonprofit Pratham Books, StoryWeaver currently hosts more than 50,000 open-licensed stories across reading levels in more than 300 languages from around the world. Users can explore the repository by reading level, language, and theme, and once they select a story, they can click through illustrated slides (each as if it were the page of a book) in the selected language (there are also bilingual options, where two languages are shown side-by-side, as well as download and read-along audio options). “Smile Please,” a short tale about a fawn’s ramblings in the forest, is currently the “most read” story—originally written in Hindi for beginners, it has since been translated into 147 languages and read 281,000 times.

1. What is your current favorite film?

I really enjoyed 14 Peaks on Netflix, a true story about the Nepali mountaineer Nims Purja and his quest to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in 7 months. Nims’ journey is super inspiring, and the views atop the mountains are incredible.

Some constant faves are Arrival, Howl’s Moving Castle, and the LOTR trilogy.

2. What was your favorite film as a child?

The Great Mouse Detective and The Jungle Book are definitely contenders! Basil of Baker Street and Baloo would be a duo for the ages.

15. What is the funniest movie you’ve seen?

I have vivid memories of laughing a lot at 21 and 22 Jump Street, but I’ve only seen them once, and I don’t remember much about them! I also thought Barbie was entertaining, but it might have been the crowd; there was a lot of energy in that theater. Everyone was wearing pink; someone dressed up as a shark in pink stilettos because it was also shark week; and someone brought their dog. It was a time.

oooh hard one! Kathakali, because it's very vibrant and expressive. I used to learn Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Kathakali when i was younger. but I've mostly performed Kathakali on stage.

Durga puja. because the city doesn't sleep those days. Everything becomes colourful and bright.

sitting with my hand inside a bucket of water when i was 5. it was Diwali and i put my hand too close to the crackers. i spend rest of the night looking at my sister burst crackers while my hand was inside the bucket. (the crackers we used to burst weren't sound ones)

my second cousin from my father's side. we both are the gay cousins of the family🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈
