April 25, 2024: from Moon for Aisha, Aracelis Girmay
from Moon for Aisha Aracelis Girmay
— for Kamilah Aisha Moon, with a line after Cornelius Eady’s ''Gratitude''
Dear Aisha, I mean to be writing you a birthday letter, though it’s not September, the winter already nearing, the bareness of trees, their weightlessness, their gestures — grace or grief. The windows of buildings all shining early, lit with light, & I am only ten & riding all of my horses home, still sisterless, wanting sisters.
You do not know me yet. In fact, we are years away from that life. But I am thankful for some inexplicable thing, let’s call it “freedom,” or “night,” the terror & glee of being outside late, after dark, my mother’s voice shouting for me beneath stars which, I learned in school, are suddenly not so different from the small salt of fathers, & gratitude for that, & for the red house of your mother’s blood, & then, you, all nearly grown, all long-legged laughter, already knowing all the songs & all the dances, not my friend, yet, but, somehow — Out There.
In one version of our lives, it is November. Through a window I see one of our elders is a black eye of a woman, is a thinker, & magnificent. [...] It is always her birthday. She has always lived to tell a part of the story of the world, what happened here.
If not a moon, what can we bring this woman who walks ahead? For whom you were named, & whose name has been added to by you whose language crowns the dark field of what has been hushed, of what is beautiful & black, & blue.
--

Ilang araw na akong hindi okay because of some reasons that others might think petty.
1. Releasing of Speak Now TV, this is one of my favorite albums from Taylor. The songs from this actually helped me a lot during 2010-2011 when i was a struggling college student. That era of mine was so depressive for some reasons, broken family, got isolated from my circle of friends and the failing grades. @taylorswift you have no idea how Sparks Fly, The Story of Us, Enchanted, Long Live and Speak Now gave me something to look forward and carry the hard days. Now, that the album got a new version, it feels like it brings also the traumas and issues that I had 13 years ago. Nevertheless, I’m happy.
2. SG Eras Tour, it’s been weeks of anxiety and overthinking. In the end, i still failed to secure a ticket. Grabe ang effect sa mental health ko. The last time she’s here was during the Red Tour, I didn’t attend the concert dahil wala pa kong enough money that time to afford a ticket, so pinangako sa sarili ko na dapat maka-punta na ko sa susunod. Now’s the chance na sana, kaso napaka-daming nag-aabang kagaya ko, happy ako for them but i’m so down and sad for myself. Sorry, it looks oa sa iba, pero wala silang idea how Taylor saved my life through her music, sa bawat era ng buhay ko, from being a struggling teen, as a confused and tired corporate slave, from the recent breakups last 2019, during the lockdown and the pandemic, she was with me. That’s why ganun siya ka-big deal sa akin ngayon.
I promised myself, I’ll be better in the coming days. I need to be. I have to be. Long live! 💜

Rules: List 8 tv shows for your followers to get to know you!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In no particular order, with explanations:
Harlots on Hulu (2017 - 2019): a colourful, well-acted, diverse period drama set in middle 18th century London, featuring prominently a canonical bi lead character -> Charlotte Wells (it’s confirmed in the written script of the show and Jessica said so in multiple interviews). I watched this show perhaps a bit too young given that the subject matter is… 18th century sex workers. But, Charlotte Wells was one of my early “she’s so me” characters and she was played wonderfully by Jessica Brown Findlay, also, Charlotte Wells at least her outward demeanour and appearance inspired my original character, Audrey.
AMC’s IWTV (2022 - ongoing): I am the target audience for this show, enough said.
WWDITS (2019 - ongoing): it’s about that messed up vampire found family/polycule the comedy edition. Also props to Taika Waititi and the writers for knowing pop cultural vampires.
TURN: Washington’s Spies (2014 - 2017): it is about that messed up found family/polycule — cause I said so, and, they’re spies and it’s the 18th century and American revolution this time. A new-ish edition to this list, I blame @musicboxmemories (affectionate).
Bridgerton (2020 - ongoing): I watched season 1 during the pandemic out of sheer boredom, I wasn’t terribly into it until season 2. It is of course, not perfect, but I love seeing South Asian women stay employed, also I love the aesthetics and soundtrack even if it’s not remotely accurate. It’s fun escapism and not as hefty as the other tv on this list, and that’s okay.
Hannibal (2013 - 2015): a new edition to this list, but, predictable, given how much I like horror and Anne Rice’s work. I fell down a tumblr rabbit hole and now Alana Bloom is another character on my “she’s so me” list. A win for the bisexuals.
Good Omens (2019 - ongoing): I read the book first, purely because I wanted to. Then I watched the show for David Tennant, then I related too hard to Anathema Device and Crowley, also… as a bi, I’m holding them both very gently.
Jhansi Ki Rani (2009 - 2011): I learned most of my early Hindi through this show! A Hindi tv show covering the life of anti British imperialist Rani (Queen) Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, from cradle to funeral pyre. It makes this list purely based on the mental nostalgia I have hearing the theme song and because I wanted to be gender norm breaking sword wielding, Calvary bound, badass anti imperialist Rani Lakshmi Bai so bad when I was younger. It is half the reason I initially did horseback riding and spent a decade fencing.
tagged by: myself.
tagging: @iamthemaestro, @grymoria, @selkiewife & @musicboxmemories (if you want). 💕

How I Met J.
January 16 kasi kami nagkakilala through dating app—so nakwento ko na nga pala 'to—kaya okay narin na 16 yung date namin haha. I never intended to make him my jowa at first, fubu nga lang dapat. charot haha. effort naman magkafubu ng LDR noh, haha. ayun one time bored si accla, naghanap ng makakausap sa dating app, at yun he appeared on my screen. in-skip ko pa yan nung una, pero sabi siguro ng universe wag kong ini-skip kasi siya na yung the one, ayun lumitaw siya ulit. haha.
nag message siya tapos lumipat agad kami sa viber, hanggag sa dinelete na namin yung dating app. na-catfish ko pa nga siya nun kasi gumamit pa ko ng ibang picture ng babae para ipakita sakanya kasi syempre anonymous ako sa dating app, what if makita niya mukha ko tapos di pala siya yung the one. basta ganon, alam niyo naman yung ibang mga nangyayari sa dating app. not gonna get into details na pero nakwento ko yun sa unang version nito. (delete ko siguro para ito nalang haha)
as day goes by, continuous naman yung pag uusap namin. pero at the same time, habang magkalayo kami at hindi pa nagkikita in person, syempre may mga ine-entertain akong iba. siguro in denial lang ako nun, pero looking talaga ako for a new lovelife non.
so ayun nagka aminan nga kami.
ayun napaisip siguro ako sa sinabi niya, e totoo naman, masaya talaga ako that time. with kilig pa.
I have no intention to get serious.
pero first 3 months, kasal na yung pinag uusapan namin. hahaha. who would've thought na yung ini-skip ko lang sa dating app noon, siya na pala yung gusto ko makasama habang buhay. hehe. di pa man kami kasal, pero I feel it, soon—may forever sa dating app.

AR PAISLEY UNVEILS DYNAMIC HINDI FUSION WITH NEW SINGLE “ONLY YOU”
Tumblr media
Today, AR Paisley delivers his first track of the year that’s a fusion of Hindi and traditional hip hop. “Only You” is available on all streaming platforms and digital stores.
Opening with a timeless Hindi melody, "Only You" seamlessly evolves into a vibrant single as Paisley effortlessly showcases his distinctive flow and lyrical prowess, solidifying his position as a prominent hip-hop maverick hailing from Toronto.
“I’m happy for this song to be out for my fans to enjoy. The Hindi addition on the hook is that extra sauce that moves my sound forward,” AR Paisley says of the release. “This starts the year on a good note and I look forward to delivering more music and special moments for my fans.”
The single is accompanied by an official Preet directed music video. Captured in Los Angeles, the visual sees Paisley moving between colourful cars and locations delivering an epic performance of his latest track.
youtube
AR Paisley won 2023’s Hip Hop/Rap Artist of the Year award at Canadian Music Week - a nod to his praised catalogue and releases such as 2019’s Screwface and Timeless to 2020’s AR Paisley VS Money and 2022’s Pressure. The late Sidhu Moose Wala featured AR Paisley on the now Certified Gold single “Love Sick,” that garnered over 100 million streams.
Another achievement was AR Paisley’s On The Radar freestyle, showcasing his influence from '90s and early 2000s flow, further validating his relevance and consistency in hip hop culture.
Following his Rolling Loud Toronto performance; opening for AP Dhillion on his North American tour and selling out Toronto’s Axis Club for his own headline Canadian tour, AR Paisley is set to deliver more music and clothing drops from his popular merch line Paisley as the year progresses.

Discover 5 Must-Hear Underrated Artists
Do you ever find yourself bored with the same old tunes on the radio? Or maybe you're tired of listening to the chart-toppers that everyone seems to be raving about. Well, fear not! In this blog, I am going to introduce you to five incredibly talented but underrated artists that you absolutely must listen to. So, let's dive right in and explore these hidden gems in the music world.
Tumblr media
The Local Train
Let's kick things off with The Local Train, a rock band hailing from New Delhi. Formed in 2008, this band is all about capturing the experiences of today's youth, often blending Hindi and Urdu seamlessly in their songs. Comprising members Raman Negi, Paras Thakur, Ramit Mehra, and Sahil Sarin, The Local Train has released two albums filled with amazing tracks that range from rocking anthems to slow, soul-soothing melodies.
One of their standout tracks is "Aaftab" from the album "Vaaqif." This song, with its slow and moving rhythm, has the power to stir your emotions, leaving you unable to resist hitting that replay button. If you're looking for more, give songs like "Choo Lo," "Vaaqif," and "Aaoge Tum Kabhi" a listen.
Also Read: Find Your Next Favorite Podcasts With These Apps
Anuv Jain
Anuv Jain may have been a singer for some time, but it was during the lockdown that he decided to go full-time, and we're glad he did. His music is dominated by acoustic sounds, with lyrics that resonate with emotions we all can relate to. In Anuv's words, "It's nice to see how people have liked my music, and more people are listening to it."
One of his tracks, "Mishri," reached over a million streams on Spotify. This slow and lyrical song is bound to tug at your heartstrings with its extraordinary lyrics. For more of his soulful tunes, try "Alag Aasmaan," "Baarishien," and "Riha."
Advait
Advait is perhaps the most underrated artist on our list. This musical maestro blends English and Hindi in his songs, creating haunting, slow, and stirring melodies. One of his remarkable tracks is "Tu Hain Kahaan," which incorporates elements from the soundtrack of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." It's truly an amazing piece of art.
Advait's songs are like your best-kept secrets, those pieces of music that you don't want to share with anyone because they are your personal gateways to peace and warmth. Dive into his enchanting world with songs like "Befikar," "Manzile," and "Main So Gaya Hoon."
Prateek Kuhad
You might have heard Prateek Kuhad's name after his song "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan" featured in the movie "Baar Baar Dekho." However, this independent artist deserves much more spotlight than he currently has. His album "cold/mess" caught the attention of former US President Barack Obama, who listed it in his favorite music of 2019.
In 2020, Kuhad made history as the first Indian artist to sign with the American record label Elektra Records. His music effortlessly combines Hindi and English, offering a mix of slow and pop vibes. Don't miss out on tracks like "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan," "Kahan Ho Tum," "Cold/Mess," and "For Your Time."
When Chai Met Toast
Our final discovery takes us to the picturesque landscapes of Kerala, where "When Chai Met Toast" emerged. This band's enchanting music came to my attention when I stumbled upon their song "Firefly" while searching for tunes by Owl City. The band was originally a duo consisting of Ashwin and Achyuth, and later, Pai Sailesh and Palee Francis joined the lineup.
Their songs predominantly feature English lyrics, sprinkled with a touch of Hindi and Tamil. With tracks like "Beautiful World," "Khoj," and "Believe," they've created a refreshing soundscape that will leave you hitting the replay button. Thanks to platforms like YouTube, we have the chance to discover this incredible indie band. Once you listen to their music, you'll find it hard to stop playing their songs on loop.

Conclusion
The music industry is teeming with hidden talents waiting to be discovered. These five underrated artists offer a refreshing break from the mainstream and bring a unique blend of sounds and stories to your playlists. So, if you're in the mood for something fresh and exciting, give The Local Train, Anuv Jain, Advait, Prateek Kuhad, and When Chai Met Toast a listen. You won't be disappointed!

dear diary,
hello. i just wanna say that i finished a report that made me do 3 days in a row. nakaka-pagod. nakakaloka. i did a report with the new and old number of patients and even the costs of it to get the average of each services from year 2019 - 2023, with 5 branches. really, i'm so proud of myself. On that 3 days of working on it, hindi ako nakakatulog knowing na may hindi pa ako natatapos na tasks, at ganito talaga ako even before, and i think i am having a peaceful sleep tonight.
by the way, i am currently listening to this:
i really really love this song. i don't know, it's a heartbreaking song but it really soothes my ears, actually the whole album of Speak Now is my favorite since high school, but girl, this song is the best!
to you, myself. i hope you always smile, the real one. you're tougher than you think you are, you've made it in this type of life and it may long way to go, but remember that you're already far from where you were before. so hang in there more, okay? He is always with you. love 🤸‍♀️ you 🤸‍♀️ beshy 🤸‍♀️
sincerely,
herdeardiaryy.

'Horror comedy' - the one type of horror movie I'm okay with (Stree comes to mind). This time around, it's a Tamil/Telugu/Hindi movie - Devi in Tamil; Abhinetri in Telugu; Tutak Tutak Tutiya in Hindi.
We've got a "I want a modern wife" lead (Prabhu Deva, who is introduced in a scene where a new girl starts working at their job and he immediately gives her his biodata); a village belle who, early enough, becomes his wife (Tamannaah); and, not much later, a superstar actor (Sonu Sood). There's a coupler others: Murali Sharma, Prabhu's friend - but otherwise, it's mostly just these 3 (and, at two instances, his father and her parents).
It's an interesting story about a ghost/spirit/something - though we don't really get much history about why the haunting (is it a haunting?, possession?) takes place. What we do know is that suddenly, almost overnight, this 'village belle' (whom our hero is unhappy to have been forced to marry and whom he has been trying to get rid of) has a complete shift in personality: she goes from a shy, quiet, dutiful wife (really, all we ever really see of her is her cooking, or laying in bed, or being worried about the fact that she can't remember anything) to a very outgoing, modern wannabe-actress. (Which, as a viewer of this movie, we know has to do with the spirit/ghost.)
It's an interesting go, seeing her alternate between these two characters - apparently the minute she steps outside of the apartment, she becomes actress Ruby; as such, any moment she returns to the house, she becomes herself again and retains no recollection of anything going on. And so this charade continues - where 'home' her is always conservatively dressed and kitchen-bound/working for husband, whilst outside/possessed her goes around in 'modern' (read: skimpy) clothes and works on her dream of becoming an actress (and, in the process, making Sonu Sood fall in love with her).
Things, obviously, come to a 'happy' conclusion (if you accept Prabhu Deva as your main character) - in this Hindi version, things end with a mysterious nameplate disappearing, and then a final scene in which it is clear that the spirit has taken over someone else (Esha Gupta, who gets a cameo end-credit song/dance); apparently in the Telugu and Tamil versions, we see the ghost return a few years later and possess Prabhu Deva (to set up a sequel, which released in 2019; for some reason, the Hindi version didn't get a sequel).
It is interesting though that, while we did get a bit of backstory into this ghost (Ruby) and all that, we don't really get how the possession happened and, except for one I think comedic attempt to exorcise the spirit, there isn't much beyond that. We get our hero coercing the spirit to sign a contract (yeah, that'll work...), but that's about it.
It's more about the ... well, I don't know, really. I guess some sort of weird, non-existent love triangle (Sonu loves Ruby, and maybe - just maybe - Devi loves Krishna, but beyond that, there isn't much?), but otherwise it is just Krishna trying to keep Ruby from fully taking over Devi, not so much because he cares for Devi but because she's his wife and he seems to think of it as some obligation, or something. Which makes the sudden change of heart in the ending (his; Ruby's change is completely predictable, especially as we see the bit of her watching herself on screen) very frustrating, because it doesn't really seem like the movie has gotten to that point.
Though, I can't complain too much - because the minute Krishna "falls in love" (again, it doesn't really show any reason for that, other than a very Bollywoody "I accidentally got stuck, literally, to you for a second," much like that scene in K3G), we get the 'Chalte Chalte' song, which I adore. (The title song isn't too bad either; Chal Maar & Rail Gaddi aren't too bad either.)
I don't know - I fairly enjoyed this movie, though it is severely lacking in explanation for why exactly things are happening at all (sure, she wanted to be an actress & then died without achieving that dream - but usually, these sorts of movies involve a subplot of revenge, which this one doesn't have at all, so you wonder why this particular spirit exists and no other spirit seems to do so). It was fun enough.
And I do like Sonu Sood, who is pretty awesome in this. Poor Sonu's character.

How to download famous Bollywood songs
Streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music allow users to download songs for offline listening.
Users can also download songs from music downloading websites such as Saavn, Gaana, and Hungama.
Some Bollywood songs can also be found on file-sharing platforms such as torrents, but it is illegal to download copyrighted material from these websites.
Many artists and bands also release their music on their own websites, which can be downloaded directly from the site.
Which quality song is best for listening
The quality of a song that is best for listening depends on the listener's preference and listening equipment. For high-quality audio, a lossless audio format such as FLAC or ALAC is considered to be the best as it preserves all the audio information from the original recording. These files are typically large in size and may require more storage space on your device.
For a balance between sound quality and file size, an uncompressed audio format such as WAV or AIFF can be a good choice.
If file size is a concern and you're looking to save storage space on your device, a compressed audio format such as MP3 or AAC can be a good option. These formats use algorithms to remove certain parts of the audio that are considered to be inaudible to the human ear, resulting in smaller file sizes.
It's worth noting that some people might not be able to tell the difference between high-quality and lower-quality audio, and the quality of the audio can also depend on the listening equipment and environment.

Million Ways - Druv Kent
Tumblr media
“Million Ways” is the lead single by BBC 2 playlisted, international award-winning, triple #1 chart-topping, indie-artist Druv Kent on his brand new EP “Love in F#”, following two #1 single smashes “Magaresa (Runaway)” and “Wanna Love Again”, both also on the EP. “Million Ways” is an out-and-out pop smash: hooky, lyrical, top vocals, amazing production, and global sound. Kent’s signature retro-folk songwriting and modern-pop sonics combined with world-music instrumentation make the song unique and fresh, with the music video grabbing the song’s spirit of connection, adventure, and fun. The 5-song EP “Love in F#” also includes the #1 hit “Wanna Love Again”, with its pulsating underbelly, soaring chiming-guitar chorus, smouldering vocals and resonant lyrics earning substantial playlistings on BBC, Spotify & Apple Music. The music video captures the elusive, explosive high of being consumed by first love… again. The dance smash and TikTok hit “Magaresa (Runaway)” blends retro-electro-funk guitars, tablas, Indian flute, and a thumping bassline to create a modern World Music dance anthem. The high-octane, playful video captures the song’s funk-disco essence. The word ‘Magaresa’ is the combined notes of the Indian classical music scale (Sa Ra Ge Ma…), backwards. The EP features “Give U Luv”, a brand new, catchy, modern, reggae-infused, world-music track, brimming with Indian refrains & beats, Swedish keys, Caribbean rum, and bursting choruses. Hindi. If you’ve recently experienced heartbreak, your prescription is thus: take once a week with plenty of water do not exceed the stated dose. There isn’t a single shock over these 12 tracks, all of which sound, essentially, like Adele songs, but the nods to Hollywood scores, 1960s soul and even her own back catalogue inject the melodrama needed to pull off the more languished ballads. Nonetheless, you’d listen to Adele sing the phone book, even at this funereal pace. The almost seven-minute To Be Loved is as drawn out as a Taylor Swift short film, which will nourish the grief tourists and annoy the daylights out of anyone who wants to get on with it. Can I Get It swaps piano balladry for steely acoustic guitars and whistles, but while the background whoops in the verses might be a homage to Serge Gainsbourg, the chorus is more like Ed Sheeran at his most chart-focused.
Tumblr media
The thumping bass drum and handclaps of Oh My God hark back to the era of Rolling in the Deep, when she was caught up in the post-Amy Winehouse frenzy of jazz-inspired chart singers. Sonically, at least, it’s not all doom and gloom. It’s a welcome injection of Adele the likable celebrity-who’s-just-like-us, before she batters us with woe again. “All right, then, I’m ready,” she says at the close of the song. Sweeping strings, mournful organ and Adele’s signature vocal range comfortably move through the paces. “I’ll be taking flowers to the cemetery of my heart,” she begins on Strangers by Nature, played with all the warm timbre of an old gramophone. What is on Adele Adkins’s mind at 33? The same heartbreak that fuelled her breakthrough, with 21, and shot her to global stardom, with 25, persists on 30, a record of melodrama, ballads and a hint of 1960s soul.
Tumblr media
Or you might be waiting for the delivery of some other artist’s LP, cursing pop music and everything it stands for because Adele decided to press 500,000 copies of her latest album during a vinyl shortage. What is your relationship with Adele? Maybe you’re one of the 277-odd million people who have streamed Easy on Me on Spotify, awaiting a return to permissible (even encouraged) long-form heartbreak.
