Do you know about the Marchil h-doujin, just called "Marchil Meshi"? (Dunno wether you're comfortable about adult content regarding the ship. If not, sorry and feel free to ignore).

I honestly loved reading your thoughts (the analogy to junk food was perfect!) and I agree with everything you said. The most beautiful thing you wrote was, "Our time should be spent in a way that makes us love life, not distracts from us living it." It’s the whole conclusion of the book really! I’ve noticed that many people in our generation are almost against the idea of this. They call everything cringe, make fun of people who are happy, disrespect anyone who doesn’t believe their nonsense, and try to drag others down. This is the problem of social media I guess and I’m sure you’ve talked about it before.

Also let me point out, the quote at page 202 is spot on! When I began to limit my sm usage and do No Social Media Sundays (thanks to you girl!), I felt anew. I now do not wanna spend no more than like 20 minutes on apps like twitter and tumblr cause it feels weird😭 Cultivating a life worth living is the ultimate freeing state to be in and a lot of these apps become extremely wasteful, once you start filling your schedule with higher quality activities. It’s just like Outkast said, you need to get up, get out and get something. Don’t let the days of your life pass by! 

I would love to hear about any habits you have or will do as well! But here are my habits I would like to implement after reading this book: 

Calling people instead of texting. Honestly, the only people I call are my family but when I make more friends, I want them to know, calling is my preferred method of communication. I want to be even more human again and only texting doesn’t allow for that. (Reference to page 145 about irl communication vs digital)

Printing or writing out directions instead of using google maps. I love google maps but I want to be able to have an internal compass, know which street will come after the other and be able to ask people around me for help like my parents do, without feeling so sure that “oh my phone will tell me”.

Only accessing social media on my laptop instead of through the apps. The apps are there to make the process convenient and addicting but I’m planning on using these apps for a sole purpose which means, I can’t keep caring about conveniency!

Only looking up words in my physical dictionary. As a kid, I loved reading my dictionary and encyclopedia but as technology progressed, it became easier to quickly open the next tab and search "what does [blank] mean?" without thinking. I honestly miss the feeling of cracking open a hardcover book and scanning through the words until I finally landed on what I was searching for. Plus I think dictionaries are good for truth/historical purpose, it’s not based in emotion ;) hehe

Buy photo albums again!! I still use disposable cameras so that’s not a problem, but instead of keeping my pics digital, I want to print them out from my phone and keep them safe in a beautiful family album like how my other memories are. I also was totally inspired by my mom bcs I seen her photo book from her teen years and it warmed my heart completely. Memories will always be cherished, even the silly ones. 

Praying 24/7. To talk, to reflect, to ask for guidance, etc. I’m realizing that praying isn’t to be done only when in a [blank] state of mind nor is it to be "perfect". (Direct reference to page 95)

Learning to not just whip out my headphones when I feel awkward. On page 100, I felt sooo called out when he said iPods created this way of living that now enables you to have a musical backdrop for your entire day lol. I love music too much to give it up whenever I’m outside especially since it helps with my emotions, but I do recognize that being plugged in constantly will not want to make people talk to me, and I want to look approachable and friendly!!

I eventually want to start taking 2 hour walks. That’s it.

Months ago, I wished badly to have love letters written about me from my future man haha, but I realized I could write myself love letters! I decided that every year I could write about what this year was about for me. I don’t know if I will still do that or if I’ll just write everything down in my journal and label that as my "love letter" but either way, I’m documenting off of my phone.

Just like when I was a kid, I now always carry a current book im reading, my word finder book and a notebook whenever I leave the house. Only problem is I need a bigger bag haha.

As a (Black) American, I think it’s crucial for me to learn the skills that my grandmother and great grandmother knew, things like sewing, quilting, and cooking without recipes lol, are what I want to know how to do as well. I think it’s a wonderful way to honor them and when I have my own family, I would love to teach my children too. These crafts should not be forgotten, it’s culture.

“Here goes the freak again,” your friend Victoria muttered to you. 

You looked up from your book to see Eddie Munson across the lunchroom standing on one of the tables ranting about god knows what. 

You snorted a laugh, not at her comment, but at his theatrics. 

You admired him honestly. He was himself, unlike most of the phoneys in this godforsaken school. It also helped that he was pretty. 

“Honestly what is this guy’s deal?” 

“Probably that the popular crowd are annoying as fuck,” you said and she laughed. 

“He’s right about that,” she conceded. 

“Did you hear that Chrissy and Jason-“ 

“Don’t really care,” you said, still staring at Eddie. 

“Careful, the hearts are starting to show in your eyes,” she said with a giggle and an elbow to your side. 

“What?! Are not!” you hissed at her and finally ripped your eyes from Eddie to look at her. 

She continued her laughter and you elbowed her back which caused her to laugh even louder. 

“It's not funny,” you muttered and returned your attention to your book. 

“Sure, like anyone could possibly have a crush on Eddie “the freak” Munson.” 

“Yeah, can you imagine?” you replied with an unconvincing laugh and grimace. 

But every time Victoria was distracted you glanced over at Eddie, you couldn’t help yourself. It was a habit you were frankly addicted to. 

He grinned at his friend next to him and you sighed wishing he was smiling at you. 

You wondered if his fluffy curly hair was as soft as it looked. You wanted to run your hands through it. 

And his hands, adorned with gaudy rings, were large. You knew they were, you handed him a pencil in class last week and it looked tiny in his hand. You couldn’t stop your mind from drifting and thinking about what it would feel like to have those hands on you. 

And his eyes, anytime he spoke to you in class you felt like you were drowning in the soft warmth of his brown eyes. How could anyone accuse him of being the devil when he has such soft innocent puppy eyes? 

“Hello?” Victoria snapped her fingers near your face in an attempt to get your attention. 

“Huh?” 

“Dear lord, you actually are checking him out aren’t you?” 

Everyone around you was packing up and heading to the next class. 

You snatched your book and the partially eaten sandwich in front of you and mumbled, “I don't know what the hell you're talking about. I'm heading to class.” 

“Wait!” She grabbed your arm as she caught up with you and walked towards your respective classes together

“Sorry, I won't tease you anymore. Even if you have terrible taste in guys.” 

You rolled your eyes. “Don’t you have a crush on one of Jason’s lackeys?” 

“Shhh!” 

“He’s a douche just like the rest of them,” you muttered. 

“Eddie is a drug dealer!” 

“Yeah but he’s nice,” you said with a shrug. 

“Everyone demonizes him for being a dealer like they’re not all buying from him. It’s hypocritical,” you said firmly. 

“Damn that’s a good point. You sure you're not being influenced by how, and I quote, pretty he is?” 

You whipped your head around and glared at her as you reached the door to your next class. 

“You said that entirely too loud,” you hissed and she laughed and waved as she walked away. 

You walked into the classroom and slumped into your seat and rested your head on your desk. You tried your hardest to banish the conversation from your mind, but your thoughts kept drifting back to the metalhead that was late to class, to no one’s surprise. 

Class started and you struggled to pay attention. 

Eddie slipped in a few minutes late with a half assed excuse and a wink towards you as you giggled at the teacher’s exasperation. 

The teacher handed out worksheets, busywork yet again. 

God, senior year was such a drag. You sighed as you pulled a pencil out of your backpack. 

“Pssst.” 

You looked back to see Eddie smirking at you. 

“Any chance I could borrow a pencil?” 

You raised your eyebrows at him as your lips turned up into a smile. 

You nodded and turned to grab another pencil from your bag. 

“Maybe you should come to class more prepared,” you teased as you handed it to him. 

“Now why would I do that when I have you?” He said with an award winning smile and a wink. 

You looked away, visibly flustered and grinning. 

You heard him chuckle and you just about melted into your seat. 

You managed to finish your worksheet, but couldn’t stop yourself from glancing back at Eddie a few times. 

His eyebrows were furrowed in concentration as he, wait a minute, he wasn’t even working on the worksheet. He was doodling on the back of it. 

You snorted a laugh and he glanced up at you. He smiled at you, again, and you tried not to swoon. Honestly, the crush you have on him is ridiculous at this point. 

“You know the answer to number one?”

“Yeah, it’s 4.7,” you whispered back. 

“Awesome, and what about number two?”

“Eddie!” you whisper-yelled. 

He had the decency to look sheepish at your admonition. 

You rolled your eyes and checked to make sure your teacher wasn’t watching. She wasn’t, thank goodness, as she was talking to someone in the front row. 

You discretely handed him your worksheet and with a smile he quickly copied all of your answers before slipping it back to you. 

You put the paper back neatly on your desk and breathed a sigh of relief and stopped watching your teacher like a hawk. 

“Thanks. You’re the best,” Eddie said as he reached over and squeezed your hand. 

You were really worried about the power he had over you. All he had to do was bat his pretty brown eyes and you were putty in his hands. 

You were not the type of person to cheat or let others cheat off you, honestly Eddie is the only person you’d ever even let copy your homework. 

And you hated it but breaking the rules with him thrilled you. You wanted to let him corrupt you even more. 

You’d always been so uptight, you never broke rules, you were the perfect student and daughter, had good grades, and never partied. You were so bored with your life. 

You admired Eddie because he didn’t give a fuck what others thought about him. You wished you could be so bold. 

The teacher called out both your names in a reprimanding tone which caused you both to whip your heads around towards her and Eddie dropped his hand from its place on top of yours. 

“Mr. Munson, have you completed your worksheet?”

“Oh absolutely,” he replied with a shit eating grin and you stifled your giggle. “Good, everyone pass them to the front of the class. If you’re done you may leave.”

You and Eddie both rush to pass your papers forward and leave the classroom. 

He threw his arm around your shoulder as you reached the door and walked along with you in the nearly empty hallway towards your locker. 

“I’m in your debt, what ever can I do to repay you?” he asked in a dramatic tone. 

You smiled and rolled your eyes, “I don’t know, maybe bring your own pencil to class?”

“Ah but then I wouldn’t have an excuse to talk to you.”

“You don’t need an excuse to talk to me,” you mumbled as you looked down at the floor. 

“Really?” he asked with a smirk and you smiled bashfully as you looked up at him. You were hyper aware of his arm around your shoulder and the warmth of his side against yours. 

“Have you ever played D&D?”

You raised an eyebrow at him and he chuckled. 

“Right, right, sorry, you’re too pretty to play such a nerdy game.”

“I did not say tha-”

“I’m saying it. You’re really pretty,” he said as you both stopped walking and stood in front of your locker. He removed his arm from your shoulder and placed his hand on the locker next to you as you leaned back on it. 

“Y-you’re really pretty too,” you said as you bit your lip and looked up at him. 

“Do you want to hang out later?” he asked, his voice softer. 

“To play D&D?” you ask skeptically.

He laughed, “No, we can do whatever you want, sweetheart.”

You smiled then said, “Wait, this isn’t just because I let you cheat off me, right?”

He placed his hand on his heart and staggered back a few steps like you stabbed him. He gasped and widened his eyes dramatically, which caused you to huff out a laugh. 

“Of course not. How could you think that?” He said, lips turned into a grin as he came close to you again. He placed his hands on the locker behind you, one on each side of your head and your laughter caught in your throat. 

“I’ve been working up the courage to ask you out for a while. What do you say? Tomorrow night around seven? I can pick you up.”

“Y-yeah that sounds really nice.” 

The bell rang and the hallway was suddenly flooded with other students. 

“Bitchin’. I’ll see you then,” he placed his hand on the side of your face and stroked your cheek with his thumb. 

You looked up at him, wide eyed and flustered as your heart raced. 

He smiled at you one more time before he walked away. 

You heaved a breath as you watched him disappear into the crowd and leaned your head back onto the locker and closed your eyes. 

“Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god,” you muttered to yourself as you turned around and opened your locker.

The rest of your day passed uneventfully, though maybe that was because you were so distracted with thoughts of Eddie you couldn’t focus on much else. 

“Victoria!” you yelled and grabbed her by the arm as she walked past you without seeing you. 

She laughed, “Hey, I was looking for you!”

She linked her arm in yours and started walking with you out of the school and towards the parking lot. 

“So I heard…”

“Hold up. Me first. I have news.”

She smirked and her eyes sparkled like she knew what you were going to say. 

“Eddie asked me out!”

She squealed and you couldn’t help but squeal with her. 

“I was hoping that’s what happened! The whole school was talking about you and him!”

You laughed and couldn’t stop smiling. 

“Yeah he asked me out after class. I’m freaking out, we have to go to the mall. I have nothing to wear,” you said as you tugged her towards your car. 

“Yay! This is the best day ever. I knew you had a massive crush on him.”

“Yeah, great detective skills, Sherlock,” you snorted as you let go of her arm and unlocked your car. 

As soon as you both were settled in the car you tore off towards the mall, intent on finding the perfect outfit.

“Take some deep breaths. It’s going to be okay,” Victoria soothes. 

She heard you take the deep breath she ordered and she laughed. 

“You have the perfect outfit. You’re going to look-”

“Bitchin’?”

She snorted, “Yeah hun, you’re going to look bitchin’.” 

“What if…”

“He’s gonna love you. I promise.”

“It’s not that…”

The silence lingered for a few moments. 

“What?”

“I might have exaggerated my history with guys the last time we played truth or dare,” you said as you bit your lip. 

She gasped, “Truth or dare is sacred! How could you?”

“I was embarrassed!”

“So? How far have you gone?”

“Um… well it was like a year ago and-”

“Seth, right?”

“Yeah, we uh we only ever made out a little bit,” you said, nerves coloring your tone. 

“What? He told the whole school that-”

“Yeah well he’s a liar,” you grumbled. “He wanted to go further but I was scared and he was being a dick about it so I dumped him.”

“Oh hun,” she said sympathetically. 

“Yeah, so uh, yeah. There’s that,” you mumbled. 

“Okay, don’t stress. This is only a first date, okay? And besides, Eddie is nice. He’s only had two girlfriends since middle school and neither of them have ever said a bad word about him. I’m sure he wouldn’t pressure you. He might be a total freak, but clearly you’re into that. It’ll be fine,” she reassured and you nodded along with her words. 

“Yeah, yeah, you’re right,” you said as you took another deep breath. 

“And if he’s anything but a perfect gentleman I’ll beat his ass,” she threatened and you laughed. 

“You’re the best, thank you,” you said. 

“Of course, hun! How long until he picks you up?”

You craned your neck to look at the clock in your kitchen. 

“Shit. Fifteen minutes. I gotta go get dressed. Thank god my nail polish is already dry.”

“Okay have fun! Call me tomorrow to tell me how it went!” 

“Will do! Bye!”

You slammed the phone into the receiver and raced to your room to change into the outfit you had picked out.

“You see that one there?,” he pointed up and to the left, ”That’s ursa major.”

You laid beside Eddie on a blanket next to lover’s lake and stared up at the stars.All the get to know you topics had already been covered and he made you laugh so much your cheeks hurt from smiling. His side was pressed against yours and you reveled in his warmth. The food he brought for the picnic was already consumed and the first date jitters were long gone. The moment was peaceful and the warmth of his presence warded off the chill of the night air. 

“Oh really?”

He snorted, “No idea.” 

You giggled and shoved his arm. 

“Hey! It could be!” 

“It could also be literally anything else,” you teased and he laughed with you. 

“Those ones together look like a dragon,” you said as you pointed up. 

His gaze followed your finger. 

“Totally,” he agreed with you. 

He placed his hand on your arm and slid it up so his hand was cupping yours and moved your finger to point it at a different constellation. 

“Those ones look like a wizard,” he said as he smoothly brought your hand down and intertwined his fingers with yours. 

“Oh, it even has a hat!” you exclaimed and he chuckled with you. 

“So, I haven’t asked yet, but, what alternate dimension did I fall into that you wanted to go out with me?” he asked and his tone was joking but there was a current of vulnerability you could feel.

“What?”

You looked over at him and studied his profile in the dark. 

“I mean, you’re pretty much perfect-”

You cringed and he looked over at you. 

“Don’t call me that, please,” you whispered. 

“I- I’m so tired of being perfect. I feel like I don’t even know who I am because I’ve been so tied up in trying to be perfect for everyone else. And you, you’re amazing! You are completely yourself and do whatever you want to do and I admire you for that,” you said passionately. 

“Wow. Well I can definitely show you the ropes on how to be imperfect and land far below everyone’s expectations.” 

“Eddie-”

“No, listen, seriously, you are amazing and I just don’t understand-”

“Eddie! Stop- stop putting yourself down. I have had a crush on you for years, okay? And-and not to be creepy but my life is so boring and the most exciting part of my day is watching you be so-”

“Batshit insane?” he supplied when you couldn’t find the words. 

You snorted, “Sure, if that’s how you want to phrase it. I just feel like I’ve wasted all of high school. Like, it’s supposed to suck but it’s also supposed to be fun, right?”

“I can show you how to have fun, sweetheart,” he murmured and you felt your face flush with heat as you flustered. 

It was so dark you could barely see him, but throughout the conversation the two of you had edged closer to one another and with every breath you took, your chest brushed against his. 

He placed a large hand on the side of your face before he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. 

His plush lips were soft and gentle yet insistent on yours. He pulled back to give you a chance to breathe but only a beat later you surged forward to kiss him again. 

His hand slipped from your cheek to the side of your neck and you gripped his shirt as he deepened the kiss. 

You kissed him, desperately as a fire ignited inside you that you’d never felt before. 

You slipped your hand into his hair and tangled it between your fingers and he groaned into your mouth as his tongue slipped against yours. 

You rolled from your side to your back and yanked him with you so he was on top of you. Your chest heaved against his and his thigh slipped between yours. 

The hand that wasn’t on the side of your neck was gripping your waist and you made a high pitched whimpering sound you’d never made before. 

“Fuck, sweetheart you’re going to kill me,” he groaned as he pulled back. 

You cut off your sound of disappointment from his abrupt end of the kiss as his lips moved to your jaw then down your neck. 

Your hands moved everywhere they could reach, you gripped the muscles in his arms, his shoulders, down his back, before you slipped your hands under his shirt to feel his skin. 

He sucked on your pulse point and you gasped and your hands on his back attempted to pull him impossibly closer. 

And then, oh god, his teeth, his teeth were on your neck and you moaned, loud enough to probably echo across lover’s lake. 

“Eddie,” you whined as he chuckled and repeated the action on the other side of your neck. 

You tugged his face back up and eagerly pressed your lips against his once again. 

He moaned your name into your mouth as his tongue tangled with yours. 

He kissed you for what honestly could have been hours, you lost track of time as you drowned in him. 

“Hey! You kids down there better get out of here!” a man shouted as a flashlight shined on the two of you. 

You squealed as Eddie laughed boisterously and scrambled up onto his feet. He yanked you up with him, grabbed the blanket you had been laying on, and with his hand holding onto yours he raced towards his van. 

You stumbled as you struggled to keep up with him and he wrapped an arm around your waist to keep you upright as you both kept running. 

You were giggling now with him as he led you to the passenger side door and helped you into your seat. He raced in front of the van, and jumped and clicked his heels together with a wink towards you, before he yanked the door open on the driver’s side and jumped in. 

You were still giggling as he said, “You ready, sweetheart?”

He leaned in to kiss you again and you pushed his face away, “Eddie! Drive!” 

He chuckled as he drove like a bat out of hell away from the lake and back towards town. 

You turned the volume up as AC/DC played through the speakers and Eddie gaped at you as you headbanged along to the music. 

“You’re my goddamn dream girl, I swear!” he yelled over the music and you laughed. 

You sunk into your seat as he pulled into your driveway. 

You looked over at him, hand over the bottom of your face as you suddenly felt bashful again. 

He grinned at you as he turned the music down to a volume more conducive to talking. 

“I had a really good time tonight,” you said.

“Even though we almost got busted by the cops?”

You shoved at his bicep as you laughed. 

“That wasn’t really a cop, was it?”

“Nah it was probably just old Mr. Wilkerson, don’t worry your pretty little head about it.”

You rolled your eyes as you unbuckled your seatbelt. 

“So my band has a gig tomorrow night, you wanna come?” he asked, voice hopeful. 

“Um, at The Hideout, right?”

“Yeah! Normally we play on Tuesday nights but the band that plays tomorrow night canceled so they asked us to fill in. Isn’t that great?”

You smiled as his grin reached practically from ear to ear.

“Yeah, that’s awesome! I just- uh- I don’t have a fake ID,” you mumbled, embarrassed as you bit your lip. 

“Oh! Don’t worry, baby. They won’t card you unless you try to order alcohol.” 

You smiled bashfully at the term of endearment coming from his lips. 

“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow night then.”

He reached over and pulled you to him as he planted a firm kiss on your lips. 

“Goodnight,” you said as you pulled back. 

“Mmmhmm,” he hummed as he pulled you in again, and again, and again until you were giggling against his lips. 

“Eddie, I have to go,” you whined.

“Just one more,” he said as he grinned and kissed you deeply. 

He pulled back and you pulled him back in with a whispered, “Just one more.” 

It was barely a kiss as you both couldn’t stop smiling, you kissed his cheek then quickly opened the door of the van and hopped out before you were tempted to stay with him forever. 

“See you tomorrow, Eds,” you said with a grin. 

“See you tomorrow, sweetheart,” he called out as you shut the door. 

He rolled his window down and wolf whistled at you as he watched you run up to your front door. 

You turned and stuck your tongue out at him which caused him to chuckle deeply as he turned the music back up and drove away.

The Stormlight Archive Volume 1: The Way of Kings’ Review: Chapters 12-15

aaaaaaaaaand the energy continues to be low, naturally I would continue to be lacking recovery at the height of essay writing season. This part comes fresh from the fingertips of my post nap self since I did a grocery shop this morning (i forgot to buy tea :’)))) and just passed tf out after lunch. I would make another cuppa to attempt to feel the benefits of a little caffeine boost but, even though my kettle is in my room, bed too snuggly and warm to leave.

Deffo intrigued by part 2, the prelude and prologue are making more sense in relation to the plot now and im liking the characterisation and relationship dynamics that are being built :))

Spoiler Free Zone: 

The absolutely heart wrenching feeling seeing Shallan NOT in this part that I experienced yesterday was not ok. BUT the introduction of the Elhokar, Adolin, Dalinar, Renarin and Sadeas interactions is kinda worth it bc they’re hella entertaining.

Kaladin maintaining the better energy in this part is great too, he’s on some kinda wild grindset like I could personally never but pop off ig king.

Syl and her progression too? Living for it. I can’t wait to find out more about her as the book continues.

Spoiler Zone:

Interesting change in chapter quotes, I was very much enjoying the before death quotes but I dont know I think I vibe with these too. I’m assuming they’re from a letter to someone and whoever is writing it is so sassy I love it: “I hope this missive find you well” to “now that you are essentially immortal, I would guess that wellness on your part is something of a given” is so iconic.

In the ways of tabs, I simply loved Dalinar’s little moment just riding his horse with the wind hitting his face like mf needs a break from having these visions like the destress must’ve been immense. 

And then his little smile when Elhokar won their little like race thingy, so cute, we love positive masculine relationships omg 

Which naturally just had to be interrupted by memories of his vision and stress out the poor guy. I will say though I love a character that has questionable means of acquiring knowledge that is untrusted by their peers (hello Jonathan Sims of The Magnus Archives) so I’m super on the edge of my seat over this visions business 

On my earlier topic of character interactions tho, Wit is READING the whole family to filth my goodness. Like yeah it was chill whatever when he was just teasing Renarin over girls but the shade on Sadeas? As he fucking should. Sadeas is a bitch and should be treated as such. 

Then the fight, ugh. While I love the lore of like chasmfiends, and gemhearts and how they’re harvested and their uses and all that jazz; and OBVIOUSLY you can’t beat a cheeky little beat down of some insect like creature; Elhokar’s little main character ‘I’m hard as fuck’ call to destiny “I defy you” moment made my blood boil and instantly lose any likeability towards him. It was a major ick. You’d thinking having inherited the title of king that long ago that he would have matured more.

Alas, all I had tabbed in Kaladin’s bit was between him and Syl (what can I say I love her). Her whole self-awareness into gaining intelligence and sentience is so cool and I’m so intrigued to see how it progresses. Its kinda sad that shes stuck inbetween the threat of forgetting into being ignorant of everything that has happened and all she knows and, although that would be easier, not wanting to lose the freedom of what she knows. 

And on that same page, Kaladin says something I think everyone needs to hear: “I don’t know what I am either. A bridgeman? A surgeon? A soldier? A slave? Those are all just labels. Inside, I’m me.”

Hi Liv! A couple things about Daisy Jones and the Six I’d love to chat with you about if you don’t mind.

First, I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen that it ends similarly with the Daisy, Billy, Camilla of it all. And I gotta say it turned me off a bit for a few reasons. I hate the “killing the significant other due to illness, accident, tragedy, etc” so the main character can end up with the third person in the triangle. It just feels cheap and like a cop out. I know you’ve said it a lot but I agree and would’ve loved to see more of Camila and how his and Billy’s relationship is in the book portrayed more in the show. But I honestly was torn between both pairings. The ending also made me think of the How I Met Your Mother finale and I know we all loathed that, lol, so in a way I just was turned off it even more. But also also, the whole time once Daisy enters the Six, I kept thinking of the HIMYM quote Robin tells Ted "If you have chemistry, you only need one other thing, timing. But timing's a bitch." 

Second, I keep thinking of another love triangle where the guy has a wife and maybe also kids and there’s a new woman who comes in and he falls in love with her too but they all try to be friendly, and I believe he also has a brother who tells the new woman “He will never leave her (the wife)” and tries to get the woman out of his brother’s life. And I’m sure there are endless possibilities, but I can’t even remember if it was a show or a movie, or maybe it was even a Hindi movie? Lol, if you have any ideas/this sounds familiar at all, please share what show/movie it could be.

This cast was truly magical and I’m so sad the show is over. Do you think there’s any possibly for another season or more, based on anything from the book that didn’t make the show, or even a new route for the show beyond what was in the book?I remember reading rumors when the show was about to premiere that they have a tour planned, and if so I would absolutely buy tickets if they play in New York City!

Hahah loving jc as the dick that he is is the way to do it! go for it. :) also, sorry this was so delayed I wanted to reread the Cloud Recesses arc so it would be fresh in my mind before answering.

In terms of jc the Cloud Recesses arc is perhaps the most 'mellow' we see him aside from the Lotus Pod Extra but for me it's still impossible to find him a worthwhile person. I can already see the faults in his character that I know will only get worse as he grows older. Canonically I don't see how he would have any friends studying in the Cloud Recesses if he didn't come as a package deal w Wei Wuxian. I mean I doubt jiang cheng would have any friends without WWX period. In fact jiang cheng doesn't make any friends over the course of 13 years. He's also unable to find a wife bc of his temperament and behavior...

What we can glean about their relationship in the Cloud Recesses arc (and even the Lotus Pod Extra) is that any time WWX gets a kind word or understanding from someone, jiang cheng scoffs at it. Any time someone shits on WWX, jc is there to agree, to relish the idea of WWX being punished, and shit on him some more. He would be an immensely exhausting person to be around. He doesnt believe in WWX's ideas and ingenuity, (as NHS does for example), he doesn't believe WWX is hurt, he always assumes the worst of him, he doesn't believe LWJ might like WWX. The only thing he ever seems to believe is that WWX will dishonor YunmengJiang and that WWX should be punished. So for a kid who supposedly wants his father's approval so badly he instead constantly acts like his mother's mouthpiece/minion. He reprimands WWX like he's trying to become Madam Yu 2.0. I see jc stans all the time being like oh he had to keep WWX in check bc WWX was such a lOOooose canon, for the good of the Clan!! lol listen JFM didn't give a f...about WWX's behavior (in his letter to LQR) why are you so concerned? JFM would have preferred for jc to try & save his peers in the Xuanwu cave or at least to understand why that was the correct course of action rather than for him to just sit in front of the class in the Cloud Recesses and tell WWX off for giving LQR as good as he got, while actually still breaking the rules himself but eschewing punishment.

What kind of answer was that? He can get away with saying that sort of nonsense at home, but he had the nerve to say it to Lan Qiren’s face. He was practically asking for the old man to kill him!”

But does WWX get away with ANYTHING in Lotus Pier? When we know he is punished constantly for EVERYTHING? This is jiang cheng fully being his mother's mouth piece. It's not something WWX would get away with, it's something jc knows JFM wouldn't mind. Which is why he's so pissed off. Which begs the question if JFM would not be upset with WWX's behavior why does jc need to criticize him? Again :

A dark expression shadowed Jiang Cheng’s face, and his voice was filled with anger. “Why are you so proud of yourself? What is there to be proud of?! Is being told to get out some amazing accomplishment? You’re making our entire clan lose face!”

and his glee at the idea that WWX will be punished leaves a bad taste in one's mouth considering how WWX was perpetually punished in Lotus Pier by jiang cheng's mother for... existing.

Jiang Cheng smiled grimly. “Now that you’ve thoroughly offended both Lan Wangji and Lan Qiren, you’re basically dead tomorrow. No one’s going to clean up your corpse either.”

and again

Without the old one, only the young one remained. This would be easy to deal with! Wei Wuxian rolled off the bed and laughed while putting on his boots. “Heaven’s charmed clouds are blessing me with shade.” Jiang Cheng was beside him polishing his sword with loving care when he decided to spill cold water over Wei Wuxian’s head. “Just wait until he gets back. You can’t escape punishment.”

Where others like NHS see value in WWX's thoughts

Nie Huaisang thought for a while. “Actually, I thought what you said was very interesting,” he said, not entirely able to hide his envy and yearning.

jc is always dismissive of WWX's ideas. These are inventions that WWX realizes. Demonic cultivation in the first conversation and The Spirit-Attraction Flag and The Compass of Evil in the second:

“Enough,” Jiang Cheng warned. “Whatever nonsense you spout, you better not head down that sort of dark road.”

Changing the topic, Wei Wuxian said, “If only there was something like fishing bait that could draw the water ghosts in. Or, something that could point in the direction they’re hiding, like a compass, that sort of thing.”

“Lower your head and watch the water,” Jiang Cheng said. “You’re letting your fantasies run wild again. Concentrate on looking for water ghosts like you’re supposed to.”

“Hey, mounting swords and flying was also only a fantasy once!” Wei Wuxian said.

He's also a hypocrite. Because even though he berates WWX for misbehaving, he himself breaks the rules. He drinks, he even goads WWX into buying liquor, the only difference is that he doesn't get punished for it, and he doesn't feel like coming forward and getting punished for it :

Naturally, Jiang Cheng was too embarrassed to talk about what Wei Wuxian had been up to. After all, all of them had egged him on to go and buy alcohol, and they all deserved to be punished as well. He could only speak vaguely. “It’s nothing. It’s nothing. It’s not that bad! He can walk. Wei Wuxian, why haven’t you gotten off yet?”

It's no wonder WWX is so impressed by LWJ's integrity in spite of his social status, when he's clearly used to the other dynamic :

“Lan Zhan, I really admire you,” Wei Wuxian said sincerely. “After I told you that you had to punish yourself too, you actually did it. You didn’t let yourself off at all. I can’t argue against that.”

A dynamic which is shown repeating in the Lotus Pod Extra where WWX is the only one to get punished for sunbathing, and which repeats here when Wei Wuxian here stops jiang cheng from confronting Zixuan over YanLi's honor (and jc's) and does it himself.

Zixuan :“Why don’t you ask what about her could make me satisfied?” he said in return.

Suddenly, Jiang Cheng rose. Wei Wuxian pushed him away and stepped between them, smiling coldly. “You think you’re very satisfactory? As though you have the right to be so picky!”

Zixuan: “If she’s unhappy, then let her break off the engagement! I certainly don’t cherish your wonderful disciple-sister. If you cherish her so much, why don’t you take it up with your father? Doesn’t he love you more than his own son?”

After hearing the last sentence, Jiang Cheng’s eyes narrowed, and Wei Wuxian was no longer able to contain his own fury. He flew at Jin Zixuan, his fist raised.

WWX takes the punishment alone. Same way he offers to do when he hurts himself falling from a tree because jc threatened him with dogs. meanwhile jc is gleeful to see him being punished.

[Wei Wuxian] was kneeling on the stretch of pebble road to which Lan Qiren had assigned him when Jiang Cheng walked over from afar and mocked him. “You’re kneeling so obediently.”

“It’s not like you don’t know I have to do this all the time.” Wei Wuxian’s voice filled with schadenfreude. “But this Jin Zixuan guy, there’s no way he hasn’t been pampered and spoiled rotten since birth. No one’s ever forced him to kneel, I’m sure of it. If he doesn’t wind up crying for mommy and daddy today, I’m not named Wei.”....

Wei Wuxian "...It’s a good thing you didn’t do anything.”

“I was going to. If you hadn’t pushed me away, the other side of Jin Zixuan’s face would be hideous too.”

“Stop it. His face is uglier for being lopsided."

WWX is happy to have spared jc from getting into trouble but jc makes the whole thing about himself anyway (like everything else ever) and is upset JFM would rush over for WWX - in his mind. Even though JFM clearly had to rush over to meet with Jin Guangshan not to coddle WWX in any way.

"Jiang Fengmian had never rushed to another clan in less than a day because of him. Regardless of whether what happened was big or small, or good or bad." Never

WWX on the other hand tries to be observant of jc's feelings and reassure him & distract him from his moods :

When Wei Wuxian saw Jiang Cheng’s melancholy expression, he thought he was still upset with what Jin Zixuan said. “You should leave. You don’t need to keep me company any longer. If Lan Wangji comes again, he’ll catch you. If you have time, you should find Jin Zixuan and watch his pitiful kneeling.”

Later in the book after nearly dying in the Xuanwu cave WWX leaves his sick bed to run after jc and comfort him after his mother's rant, even though WWX had to listen to his parents (and himself) being slandered by YZY. jc doesn't spare any thoughts for how other people might be feeling or suffering. His entire perception of the world is centered around himself. To him even WWX's greatest fear doesn't generate empathy, only amusement or later on a form of torture.

From that point onward, they made trouble everywhere together, and if they encountered a dog, Jiang Cheng would always chase it away for him, then enjoy a peal of derisive, unbridled laughter at Wei Wuxian’s expense beneath whichever tree the boy had leapt atop.

he grew up on the streets, often having to fight for food with vicious dogs. After several bites and chases, he gradually became extremely scared of all dogs, no matter the size. Jiang Cheng laughed at him because of this quite a lot of times.

This brings me to the last point. jc's resentment of WWX's interest in Lan Zhan, or in a serious friendship outside of him. I see so many ppl say that bc WWX fought he was kicked out of the Cloud Recesses early... but was he?

Jiang Cheng was somewhat taken aback. “Lan Wangji? What was he doing here? He still has the nerve to come see you again?”

“Yeah, I think his bravery is laudable if he still has the nerve to come see me. His uncle probably told him to check on me and see if I was kneeling properly.”

Repeatedly throught his stay in the Cloud Recesses even while NHS was observing that LWJ's behavior around WWX was strange and unique, jc was telling WWX he is hated and bothersome. When WWX wanted to apologize to LWJ jc is completely dismissive of it :

“He hates me already? I was thinking of apologizing to him,” Wei Wuxian said.

“Oh, so you want to apologize now? It’s too late!” Jiang Cheng said derisively. “He’s exactly like his uncle. He thinks you’ve been wicked ever since you were an embryo, so it’s beneath his dignity to pay you any attention.”

Later on when WWX mentioned wanting to invite LWJ to Lotus Pier jc categorically says no.

“Jiang Cheng had on a stern expression, “Let’s make this clear. I don’t want him to come, anyhow. Don’t invite him.”

BONUS

jc also always doubts WWX. He suspects him immediately of wrongdoings. He doesn't believe that getting hit with the discipline ruler in Cloud Recesses actually hurt him until LXC confirms that WWX might take more than a few days to heal. He doesn't understand WWX is in actual trouble from the Waterborne abyss and assumes he's fooling around luckily Lan Zhan is there to rescue him:

He maintains this same mindset when he tries to whip LWJ and WWX as they're attempting to leave Lotus Pier after the ancestral hall confrontation when WWX passes out.

Is jc evil in the Cloud Recesses ? No. He's just an annoying, basic, disagreeable asshole who doesn't bring anything positive to someone like WWX. People like jc become obsessed with kind, outgoing, generous people, people who don't set boundaries on what they give and what others take in their friendships. Even though they're dependent on them for their social interactions, because who else would socialize with them willingly, they resent them in equal measure, but at the same time they wouldn't be drawn to another selfish, self centered piece of shit person like themselves.

On a personal note, even Cloud Recesses jiang cheng is someone I would exclude from any personal friend group. Friendship with him is adding a minefield of jealousies and snide comments to every interaction. Things that then others will need to compensate around because he won't compromise or empathize w issues outside of his own concerns.

honestly you're one of the rare ones who didn't lie about reading the dmbj og books bc after seeing some ppls tweets there are way too much of 'its bc i've read the book i hate it' and then they proceed to describe the thing they hated that was in the book and i just start laughing. anyways same about the 'restart'. like hell i'd exchange what zu yilong and huang junjie did for what was happening in there and it all ending with wu xie rapidly aging and going bald no thank you

I just think that this is the kind of a rare fandom, where whether you are a fan of the books or not, it doesn't matter unless you're making sense and consistent with what you're saying, bc the novels are a hot mess tbh. Like even if you're a huge fan of the books for some reason, there had to be places where u were like "well that was... strange" lol

Like the only Qilings I love are Yuliang & Junjie, but whoever came up with the "Yuliang is the closest to the book Qiling version" is hella wrong and lying, you can check it yourself. But I can't consider the fact that they're so much softer and more gone on Wu Xie as a flaw, although some aparently do xD

Same as I personally can't accept the Wu Xie's "don't worry about him" line in the new one, but know for sure that there was tons of moments in the books like and I quote here Wu Xie literally going "knowing how skilled Xiao Ge was I wasn't worried about him at all, so I just watched him as he ran, distracting the creature". Like I'd rather have SOP version of Wu Xie being hella scared even when XiaoGe just jumps down stuff and running to check on him first out of everyone else after bomb explodes. But thats not whats happening in the novels, so it's technically ooc haha

Also I saw one UN review that was positive, but just went that Xiao Ge in that part felt more like humane or smth, bc "at some point he even grew a scruff". I mean just bc Shen Wei or Lan Zhan look perfect all the time that somehow means they don't have feelings or less human beings? I do not get.

So all these tantrums of "ISTG IF THEY EVER SHOW QILING JUST PROTECTING THEM... I'M GONNA BLEW UP" and the same one saying that they're the book fans, I'm like "how didn't u blow up during several books already?" lolz

I like love reading so many different opinions, when it comes to this fandom, bc it's so fascinating, but some arguments just don't go together well haha

fjdjd no they’re not it (at least not really; i think to an extent his wealth and status would allow him to just be Like That but my crack posts are definitely exaggerated). i have a post from a while ago where i talk about him more seriously but i don’t think i’ve done headcanons??? i’ll do some for you now

Hello my children

I just finished the book and I want to talk about it, so -- obviously -- spoilers ahead.

First I want to talk about the fact that this writing was AMAZING for me.

I used to get the feeling that sjm had one type of writing with tog and another with acotar (tog being my fav and ccity I have to reread to get into a bigger understand) but this book OMG.

I'm not talking exactly about the way she did it (though I loved the small chapters) but the things she decided that were important.... We got so many good stories about the courts, history, THE ILLYANS history, that was fucking amazing.

The second thing: how she handled the girls. They found each other,they loved each other even not knowing what """" they've done"""", Gwyn, Emerie and Nes are EVERYTHING and YES their stories ARE worth telling.... Sarah made their growing really good, made them take their time and that last scene when they tell each other everything, I cried SO MUCH, it was really well done for me.

I'm gonna talk about nessian first, then Nesta.

Nessian... Their development, the fact that Sarah made them already know about the bond (BITCHES WE WERE RIGHT) but " not act upon it" and Cassian making mistakes (because that's how it works) and Nesta even when he did kinda "understanding" and the scene when she tells him everything they indeed found healing in each others arms.

And the sex... Guys..... THE FUCKING SEX... I knew it would be 😳😳, but I was NOT expecting both of them enjoying a little pain, saying stuff like " think of you. Of your cock." or “I love being so covered in your seed that it leaks out of me for ages afterward. I love feeling it slide down my thighs and knowing you left your mark in me.” THAT WAS BRUTAL.

Anyway... Nesta Archeon.

There were a lot of quotes and things that Nesta has said that made my heart cry, the thing about selling herself for food, the way Nesta said she hated herself and the thing with Thomas and her mother omg, Nesta deserves love.

She is definitely one of the best characters I've ever read. Her journey.... We've learned A LOT from her past (stuff that we've missed it because it has been Feyre's pov and feyre herself never knew), we have her dacing, her love for music (that music box, I cried), we have her confessing many times that -unfortunately- she pushed away "bc didn't want to hurt anyone "and then saying to herself stuff like "she would do it again" about Cassian... AND THE STEPS.

That was AMAZING to read. The ideal behind it...Nesta going and going and everything something went wrong she went again and through the book you can see the change of "I'm doing to get down there and drink " to "I'm doing to put myself together"... Personally it was an amazing way of showing that even though, idk, she fucked cassian, the fact that any priest had signed to train with her still bothered her and brought everything back, because that's how life works triggers and stuff.... And then Amren doesn't believe in her and she finally gets down, I honestly thought that she was going to the first tavern she would find but NO she goes to Amren and Feyre is there and Nesta does something that crushes her spirit.. And the "trip"... Him giving her the space until she finally says everything -- she feels totally comfortable around him to say it.. That scene made my heart so sad and worm omg.

The Valkyrie thing... Nesta is going to LEAD...SHE BASICALLY WON THAT FUCKING THING, SHE IS A POWERFUL AND BRAVE WARRIOR AND I'M SO HAPPY FOR HER THAT OMG... I loved it.. She found a purpose and when she talks about leading the priests and cassian is on board omg, she is a fucking general and well, in the next war they will be leading armies together...

Az and Nesta... I saw it coming, they are PERFECT...When she hugged him I felt hugged as well.

RHYSAND AND NESTA "HER BROTHER" that's all I'm going to say.

Feyre and Nesta.... nes's first I love you was towards her sister, she gave her power away for her sister, she loved feyre very much, that's it.

A little bit more of nessian now (lol)... The fact that in the entire book we have so many beautiful things being "thought" from both, and then she just says everything...That he is good and brave and she thinks she doesn't deserve him but we know that he was the one who thought that and the EVER OMG THE E V E R . (HE CRIED, I TOLD YOU GUYS HE WOULD).

And then... the talk about them being mates.

They both knew it, they both felted but she was afraid and he didn't wanted to pushed into her so he left and omg the struggle and then “Because my mate taught me well.” I SCREAMED... Nesta saying many times that from the moment they've met she couldn't stop thinking about him and it drove her insane and scared but we know it was kinda a of a "good scared" and if you think about it and look back, when feyre asked cassian "why do you bother" HE KNEW ALREADY and in the beginning of the book Nesta asks him the same thing and he just “Why did you stay at my side when we went up against the King of Hybern during that last battle?” DUDE THEY KNEW!!!!

And a cute fact that I cannot left unsaid: she also named his poses/faces :")

Eris... I hate him, he wanted to BUY Nesta and said those bullshits to Cass...But I pity him.

About Az pov I'm only going to say one thing: Elain does not love Lucien, she can barely stand him... I think Az may be in a bad place rn so that whole "the cauldron may have made a mistake" was really "Hey ho, hold up" (I'm nut exactly okay with how rhys handle it... He wasn't wrong I guess but idk, the scene felt weird)..

I haven't read the feysand scene :(

To summon: I loved the book, a lot of amazing things to say... I can say that the similarly with feysand in a particular scene made me go a little "it could have been different" but still a powerful scene after all and I don't think besides that I have actual complaings... Only that I wanted a scene where Cassian looked at Nessian's tattoo and talked about it.... And since we are mentioning him... He has the biggest wingspan... There's no way that a bigger cock exists :)

”A Very Long and Comprehensive Analysis of Feyre’s Experience w/ Trauma and Abuse

- This is not a kind analysis of Nesta but please still read it if you want. It’s not in the wrong tags tho so please don’t rant about how much you love Nesta. I love that for you. Personally, I hate her. :)

Also- I use many of the quotes that @feysandlover and @dont-rattle-aelin used to prove her point that Nesta is abusive because she pulled many of the really jarring ones. 

I was looking through the Rhysand tag and for some reason someone posted something comparing Nesta and Feyre in terms of their trauma, and they said that Nesta had experienced way more trauma than Feyre and I-

That’s disgusting.

First - don’t compare trauma

Second- they were wrong and lacked critical thinking skills that left out Feyre’s full experience with abuse

Nesta was sexually assaulted ( which nobody talks about enough) and her family’s fortune flipped making them poor overnight. Because of this she fostered anger towards her father. I get that. I sympathize with that. She is then taken away from her life and forcefully changed into fae. I cannot imagine what that felt like for her. It must have been devastating. Her whole identity was shifted in one day and she went from hating fae to being fae. Confusing and overwhelming. She then goes into war and develops PTSD and depression from her experiences. She sees her father die and is unable to reconcile her anger and his death. It’s horrible and I cannot even begin to understand the depth of her emotions here. I have zero issue saying that about Nesta because it’s true she has gone through extaordinary trauma and I cannot imagine how she fully feels. She deals with this trauma in unhealthy ways because they only exacerbate her feelings of worthlessness. Not her fault. However, she also treats Mor and Feyre and Rhys in disrespectful ways and Cassian and her have an unhealthy dynamic where they insult each other. Her and Amren have a shaky and partner like relationship but it is by no means a sturdy one. Az and Nesta don’t seem to have a relationship at all. She has no true healthy relationship with anyone but Elain, and you could argue even that is not truly healthy.

Much of Nesta’s trauma is due to extraneous factors and a multitude or variables. It’s valid and it matters just as much as Feyres. They are both real. However the amount of traumatic experiences she has gone through does not come close to rivaling that of Feyre’s and to even try and compare them is disgusting. Trauma should never be compared but I want to show Feyre’s experience in a broader light to show her development from a scared girl to high lady

Feyre was never an active abuser in any relationship she was always the one being abused. Nesta was abused and she was also the abuser. It is important to point that out because it heavily impacts Feyre’s story.

Also, I believe the reason Feyre became so accustomed and slipped so easily into being a victim to Tamlins abuse is because Feyre was already the victim of emotional abuse from her sisters. We see this everyday, research shows that victims of abuse go back to abusive relationship and form new relationships that center around abuse because they are used to it and find it comforting. This is an extraneous point that you can agree with or can argue against it’s just a personal connection I made. However, it is very evident how Nesta and Elains treatment of Feyre affects her. She has no self confidence, she remains illiterate and with no real knowledge of polite manners ( something important in the real world, something that holds her back from being able to assimilate into the real world), her spirit is broken down at home because she knows  that verbal attacks are going to come and Nesta is going to lash out and say horrible disgusting things to her if she asks her to do something or holds her accountable for her lack of work. She is constantly degraded for everything that she does and it has a pronoucned effect on her psyche throughout the trilogy and novella. 

Like Nesta, Feyre also had to go through her family losing their fortune, she also had to bear the weight of her promise to her mother, she had to support her sisters financially going into the forest alone to hunt animals just as big as herself at 14. She never had money for herself because her sisters took it from her. Like they literally took all her money to buy things they did not need, leaving Feyre with basically nothing.

“I’d love a new cloak,” Elain said at last with a sigh, at the same moment Nesta rose and declared: “I need a new pair of boots.””“I kept quiet, knowing better than to get in the middle of one of their arguments, but I glanced at Nesta’s still-shiny pair by the door. Beside hers, my too-small boots were falling apart at the seams, held together only by fraying laces... I drowned them out as they began quarreling over who would get the money the hide would fetch tomorrow…”

 And Nesta complains and whines and doesn’t stop gaslighting Feyre because of her lack of hard work. But, she doesn’t want to do work herself because she thinks it’s beneath her. 

“I thought you were going to chop wood today. Nesta picked at her long, neat nails. “I hate chopping wood. I always get splinters. She glanced up from beneath her dark lashes. Of all of us, Nesta looked the most like our mother—especially when she wanted something. “Besides, Feyre,” she said with a pout, “you’re so much better at it! It takes you half the time it takes me. Your hands are suited for it—they’re already so rough.” My jaw clenched. “Please,” I asked, calming my breathing, knowing an argument was the last thing I needed or wanted. “Please get up at dawn to chop that wood.” I unbuttoned the top of my tunic. “Or we’ll be eating a cold breakfast.” Her brows narrowed. “I will do no such thing!”

She doesn’t care about Feyre or the fact that starving is their new reality. Poverty is what they live in. We all know if Feyre didn’t go hunting Nesta would be furious at Feyre and belittle her and make her feel small and responsible for their hunger.

“Take those disgusting clothes off.” 

“Any bit of praise for anyone—me, Elain, other villagers—usually resulted in her dismissal.”

“Is there a problem, Feyre?” She flung my name like an insult, and my jaw ached from clenching it so hard.”

“You stink like a pig covered in its own filth. Can’t you at least try to pretend that you’re not an ignorant peasant?”c“Take those disgusting clothes off.” 

“What do you know?” Nesta breathed. “You’re just a half-wild beast with the nerve to bark orders at all hours of the day and night. Keep it up, and someday—someday, Feyre, you’ll have no one left to remember you, or to care that you ever existed.” She stormed off, Elain darting after her, cooing her sympathy. 

Then Tamlim comes and kidnaps her. More trauma. She falls in love with him, I think partly because of Stockholm Syndrome and also because he shows her a level of kindness that she was not given at home, and then he disappears so she has to go back to her life with her sisters. Her sisters have all the benefits of her being stolen away bcs Feyre was able to provide their old house and wealth back through Tamlin’s gift. Her sisters literally never did anything to provide for themselves or help their father or sister. If you really think about that situation as a whole it’s devastating. Then she goes to save Tamlin and finds that her home and her loved one was basically destroyed. She goes to save him.

While under the mountain Amarantha humiliates and tortures her for fun. She makes her run around trying to get away from a monster, her illiteracy is exploited for amusement while she is under pressure of death by fire, she is forced to kill fae in order to save her love, and she has to suffer with her injuries in a basement where everyone is rooting against her.

Then she fucking dies. And like Nesta she is forced to become fae in order to survive. Like she can’t catch a break. Her whole life has really just been horrible and so traumatic. A series of abuses.

That’s not even all! She goes home and is deeply depressed and struggling with PTSD and Tamlin, who she literally was tortured and died to save, takes advantage of her sexually because he is too scared to acknowledge that she is struggling. He uses her body for his pleasure while she throws up every night after he leaves her bedroom due to the nightmares she gets from saving hundreds of fae. She is also forced to fit into a box that she doesn’t want- wearing dresses, pretending to be happy, becoming a figurehead as Tamlins bride knowing that it means she will have to be submissive and have children. Lucien emotionally abused her and ignores her obvious depression because of his own fear of what Tamlin would say. He is a bystander. She is so broken that she stops caring about everything, even painting, the one thing she always loved. Then he traps her in his house which is traumatizing again because she was just trapped under the mountain! Even the people she loved, the people she trusted, continually can’t stop abusing her.

She finds happiness and stability later on after intensive work on herself, and months of building healthy relationships, but she is still troubled because of the guilt she feels from the townsfolks anger and their sense of righteousness for her actions even though she did the best she could in every circumstance. When she goes to try and save those townspeople it becomes clear that Nesta still hates her. She shows Feyre no kindness. The only reason she is allowed to use the house, the one that Feyre got for them, was because of Elain. Even after that Nesta insults her repeatedly for being fae. Those statments from the first book that I quoted higher up in this post are just a small part of how she speaks to Feyre in the following three books after she finds out that she is fae. Even after Feyre saves her and supports her she continues abusing and blaming Feyre. She continues to insult. degrade, shame, and humiliate her to uplift her own lack of self worth. Its a technique to stop her own insecurity and depression but it is in no way excusable. It’s no wonder Rhysand hates her. She abused his mate for years- something that he experienced under the mountain (shame, gaslighting, and humiliation). That is her life. She goes on to see her father murdered. She suffered so much in such a short amount of time is a wonder she wasn’t more broken.

Don’t come to me saying Nesta experienced more trauma to prove your point that Nesta is a good person and not responsible for her actions because she “feels to much” and is a woman that is cruel, and prideful, and unapologetic “bcs that’s who she is.” She has to be held accountable for her actions, her attitude, and her lack of words and apologies to everyone she wronged- especially her sister.

Feyre sacrifices her childhood, her body, her mental health, and her life in order to provide the stability that her sisters felt was their norm. They are inherently priviledged because of that sacrifice. They felt and still feel entitled to her money, and her loyalty, and that of her friends and mate. They survive because of Feyre. And Feyre never once called them out on their behavior, not even when they continually disrespected her after she provided them with a place to live and money to live off of. This was due to her feelings of guilt and the trauma that she had continually been victim to as a child and in Tamlins court.

Some of y’all use the excuse that they never asked Feyre to do any of that and I’m genuinely appalled that that is even a response to her genuine sacrifice. Her mother asked her to take care of them. Nobody was stepping up. Nesta was not going to go into the forest and neither was Elain, both for different but equally disappointing reasons. They both would have let the family starve. Also, Nesta and Elain were both older than her. Elain and Nesta as Feyre’s old sisters should have, and had a responsibility, to ensure that Feyre didn’t have to do what she did. Their apathy and ungrateful attitude is disgusting. Disgusting and unforgivable. Sure, Feyre may have been able to do it but she never should have had to. The three of them should have figured out a plan of equal work to give and take and survive. Y’all saying that Feyre never had to do that I- ... do you not have a family? Do you not have loved ones? You don’t have to do something to help your family, but you do it anyway because you love them and you hate to see them suffer. It’s just that usually you aren’t being exploited and taken advantage of at 14, for years on end, because the sentiment is usually reciprocated.

Perhaps if they had taken better care of their younger sister she would not have been in the woods and killed the fae. Perhaps all three of them would have bore the brunt of their fathers injury together and made a family. Perhaps if she hadn’t killed the fae in the forest when she was starving due to her sisters laziness, Elain and Nesta would never have been forced into being fae.

They neglected Feyre. They aren’t as responsible for her as their father ofc but they actively neglected her and Nesta even slut shamed her for her consensual sexual relationship with Isaac. The one thing she had that her sisters couldn’t take and Nesta called her filthy and disgusting for it.

“At least I don’t have to resort to rutting in the hay with Isaac Hale like an animal.” 

Nesta remains unapologetic and to me she is not a feminist character. Sarah J Mass tried to use her as that trope to fulfill her idea of a “powerful woman” icon but she’s just a cruel and traumatized woman who people let off the hook. She gets away with it because she gaslights other characters while taking no responsibility for herself. She was abused and traumatized herself but that’s never an excuse for her in turn abusing someone else.

Now I don’t mean to say that Nesta or Elain are irredeemable. Frankly I think they both have potential to be good characters if they just apologized to Feyre in the next book, and really put those sentiments into actions. I do think Nesta is a bad person right now, I think she’s an abuser. And I think it’s hard for abusers to change their pattern of abuse. Elain is less of an outright abuser and more complicit in the abuse. I don’t know if either of them can change, but they definitely won’t if people keep letting them off the hook for their disgusting behavior. I am not impressed or charmed by either of them. Until they show a hint of gratitude and remorse to their sister because as y’all can tell she went through hell to make sure they were taken care of. Not to say that they didn’t do anything for Feyre. They both  had important roles to play in the war, and they do have their moments of kindness and bravery and showed they cared for Feyre but abusers can be kind and considerate and brave one minute and then switch up just as fast. It’s about showing a consistent pattern of respect and love. 

Just because Feyre took care of Elain and Nesta their whole damn life does not mean she has to be responsible for them as high lady. Also she is not responsible for knowing how to deal with their trauma. Her own abuse, and lack of real world experience- because Nesta and Elain never taught her to read, and Nesta continually degraded and made cruel remarks to Feyre about her lack of manners “ disgusting pig, take off your clothes didn’t anyone teach you ...” (manners she didn’t develop because she was in the forest)- means she is not perfect at confronting Nestas PTSD or depression. Feyre’s intention was always good, whereas you can’t tell me that Nestas was good and pure. She is not exempt from being respectful and kind because she is hurt and has mental illnesses. She is not exempt from apologizing because she “feels to much.”

This applies to all of the IC as well. They are all healing. They all experienced trauma that rivals what Feyre went through. It’s no wonder they built a family from that shared bond. They are healing together- not healed. Nesta is not entitled to Feyre’s care or her friends kindness. She is not entitled to be added into the group painting or their secret jokes or parties because she continues to push them all away. Then she insults them and disrespects them. The inner circle has already suffered so much they are not exactly going to be open to accepting Nesta knowing her history and her current actions and remarks, and the history of the IC. Do y’all not remember Mors family nailing a stake into her body for losing her virginity? Or Cassian, Az, and Rhys being forced to bond together to survive, being called bastards, and being ganged up on by all their peers? Rhys being sexually abused for 50 years and seeing his parents murdered? Az being stuck in a basement so long he became the shadows and his hands being burned so badly they were hard to look at? Or Amren being in the wrong body for centuries and still she and all of the IC remain a family because they try to understand each other and their experiences. Nesta was not only rude to them she was cruel and spiteful, especially to their high lady, and they don’t need an excuse, but especially as victims of abuse, they are not perfect, and they sure as hell are not obligated to embrace Nesta into their family. The IC and Feyre deserve better.

A lot of people have posed the argument that if Nesta was male everyone would love her but I disagree. If an older brother let his sister go hunting alone in the woods for years while sitting on his ass, slut shamed her and called her dirty and disgusting, blamed her for her family’s poverty and spoke to her like she was trash for years and years, verbally and emotionally belittled her, felt entitled to her possessions and her kindness while they were both struggling to heal from abuse, predisposes his sister to accepting abuse as a form of relationship, and then rather than apologize “steels [her] back” and says nothing-not even an apology or a thank you for saving their life tenfold- he would never even have gotten a redemption story, or a mate, let alone a 700 page book. He would be the most hated character in the series but because it’s Nesta and she’s a woman and y’all pose her as this feminist it’s okay that shes abusive all throughout the series.
