Todays rip: 04/12/2023
Top G Alert!
Season 7 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume Ruby
Ripped by RHMan
youtube
In the last few days, I've been slowly chewing my way through Volume Ruby in my free time - its been a really fun way to re-experience Season 7 and uncover a lot of rips I missed out on. I try to always stay up-to-date with the channel, but I'm not perfect: sometimes real life just gets in the way for a week, and I miss out on the big meme for a while until its buried amidst other rips later on. And unfortunately, that meant that I sort of missed the boat on the rips referencing Bottom G, Bumblebee, and the "Top G" himself. The smile on my face when I realized what Top G Alert! was doing was simply magic.
You've likely already heard way too much about everyone's least favorite convicted sigma male - Tate's an "influencer" in the sense that he spews vile and annoying rhetoric to his audience of young men to basically teach them to be assholes in order to succeed in life. His role as an obnoxious asshole is well known in just about every circle that actually follows him, and its led to a bevvy of mockery and parody of the guy: most famous of which being "Bottom G" from TikTok. He's an exceptionally talented dancer who happened to look near identical to Tate, and decided to play into that as a form of parody, performing flamboyant dancing to encourage a far superior "sigma" lifestyle to the world. Its hard not to find his energy infectious, and that carries over to the equally infectious song he's most closely associated with - Bumble bee by Norweigan pop artist Bambee, sped up in an eerily similar fashion to Caramelldansen.
After finally drawing all of these connections together - uncovering the rabbithole of Bottom G and finally getting up to speed with all of Tate's drama - it was oh so fun to realize that the SiIva team had been playing along with it the whole time, particularly with its rips of the fake game "Tate's Journey". Yet Top G Alert! takes the cake for me - Bowser's Inside Story is a game I hold very close to my heart, and I've even covered it on here before with Brothers ~ The finale is afoot!. In all the game's music, there's such a fun bouncy energy to the music, such bizarre yet always fun instrument choices and fun rhythms to go along with - and Top G Alert! mixes that instrumentation with the nightcore-ified Bumble bee song and vocals. Its a banger that I appreciate in the exact same way I do the original Tough Guy Alert!, through being simultaneously fun and silly whilst still having a really commanding percussion and overall progression. It grabs your attention and asks you to dance along, and RHMan did an absolutely incredible job translating that energy over with integrating Bumble Bee into the track.
A recent favorite of the season, and an excellent showcase of how SiIva continues to grow with new jokes opening all sorts of new opportunities for creative rips - Top G Alert! is a rip I'll gladly have added to the playlist of bangers.

“It Shows Us What It Is That Is Worth Saving”: Aurora’s Five Songs for the Earth
Tumblr media
Interview for Peppermint Magazine by Lauren Baxter (January 10th, 2023)
“Our world and our environment have always been a heart matter for me.” So says Aurora Aksnes, the enigmatic and beguiling Norweigan alt-pop artist known mononymously as Aurora. “I’ve always believed that communicating her beauty and her importance through art, music and film is what touches us the most. It shows us what it is that is worth saving.”
Returning to Australia this March for the open-air festival WOMADelaide, alongside a slew of east coast dates, Aurora crafts music that covers themes ranging from global capitalism and the environmental crisis to love, shame, desire and morality. It’s something that rings true through the artist’s entire discography – her voice, while often described as otherworldly, is of and for Earth. “I feel like I’ve always been the opposite of apathy my whole life,” Aurora shares of this affinity for the natural world. “I’m just extremely emotional and extremely thin-skinned, I guess. The world wants to raise you to have thick skin – it’s built around caring about yourself, and maybe your family and friends, but it stops there. We forget how connected we all are and all should be. It should be more natural for us to feel each other’s pain.
“That connects me with naturally feeling on behalf of the things you see in the world, especially things and situations that don’t necessarily have their own voice. We have to work for Earth. It does talk to us, but not in the language people seem to understand.”
For Aurora, translating that language is not something she takes on as a responsibility to share through her music. “I want to do it because it makes sense,” she says emphatically. “It makes sense to care. It makes sense to talk about it when the planet is dying right in front of us and people who live in the areas that get the most affected are dying already. Forests are disappearing and animal breeds that have existed for millions of years, we have destroyed. It’s just such a mockery of nature and the world. It’s terrible. I guess it is a responsibility, but I do it not because I feel like I have to. I think it just makes sense to talk about it because it’s such a vibrant problem. It feels like it’s burning around us.”
These worlds of music and activism have long been intertwined – singing truth to power, melodies burrowing deep into our brains and lighting that spark for action. But can music save the world? “Art, music, movies – everything that touches people more emotionally than mind-wise – are very important because we mustn’t forget that this global conversation is an emotional topic,” says Aurora. “We treat it very much as a political one but it’s super emotional. We have to remember the emotional side of it which art can help provoke. But also, I never think that artists have more power because the art only has power because of the people.
“It’s the voices of all the people together that create true change. I hope everyone knows how important they are when they sit at home as well. Everyone is so important in this battle.” Here are Aurora’s five artists for the Earth.
BJORK
“A lot of Bjork’s music tickles a different part of my brain that I don’t often search to be tickled because her music is very out there and I like very instantly emotional music, like her earlier stuff. But also, some days, I feel I need this part of my brain tickled and Bjork can always help. I’ve just discovered her recently – I’ve always known her and I know that she’s an icon and that she’s paved the way for a lot of artists like myself, alternative people and to help people who are a bit on the spectrum to be understood more. I’m very grateful for her – I’ve met her a few times and she’s just lovely. A beautiful woman. I’m really learning to appreciate and truly understand her music.”
youtube
MAX RICHTER – RECOMPOSED
“Then there’s Max Richter’s Recomposed album. And also his album Sleep I love. He’s a beautiful man and he has this studio with his wife, far out in the countryside and they grow their own vegetables and all their power is from solar panels and they just live completely sustainably in this space and it’s beautiful.”
youtube
BRIAN ENO – FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE
“Obviously Brian Eno, who I’ve met many times. He’s also my friend and his new album ForeverAndEverNoMore is an ode to Earth. We met through Earth Percent where you donate percentages of your songs and put Mother Earth as a co-writer.”
youtube
HOWARD SHORE – THE LORD OF THE RINGS
“His track with Enya – oh my god! It’s so beautiful. I absolutely adore The Lord of the Rings soundtrack.”
youtube
HANS ZIMMER – FROZEN PLANET II
“I’m on this one but a lot of the songs I’m not on and they’re just beautiful. They’re a literal musical representation of how the world feels right now. It’s beautiful.”

Hi everyone, it's Crim, back again with our Eurovision commentary for the night. Coming at you from: one Eurovision superfan, one dance teacher, one former professional dancer, and the dog we scared every time we screamed. Here we go!
Czech Republic: She's really changing it up, huh.
Romania: We spent two and a half minutes talking about sexualsation in dance and that man's ruffled shirt.
Portugal: That was very beautiful.
Finland: The musical equivalent of The Smiler ride at Alton Towers. Director of Cinematography really said "YES WE CAN DO THAT FOR YOU."
Switzerland: We thought that resembled a charity advert song. Also, why are all the costumes too big.
France: And we are summoning something in this Eurovision tonight. My aunt just let out an unholy scream. I'm slightly scared for her.
Norway: That felt like a fever dream. We're all reeling from the lyrical genius of "Before that wolf eats your grandma, someone give that wolf a banana."
Armenia: Graham Norton made a remark about this one being the reason the UK had no toilet paper early in the pandemic, and it killed us for the whole song. Can we vote for the tech team to win.
Italy: Good *heavens* that was awful. We will discuss it no further. Was nice to hear the crowd singing though.
Spain: Well that was phenomenal. What a singer, what a dancer, she rocked it! Best choreography and staging of the night so far.
Netherlands: Is it just me or are pop songs getting more predictable.
Ukraine: A true Eurovision banger. None of those people looked like they were dancing to the same song, but man did they dance dance. I expect pink woolen bucket hats to be the trend by Monday. (We also really want to know what they're singing about.)
Germany: No wonder they had to go to the presenters for that change-over: they had to get the carpets on. The German Eminem.
Lithuania: As my aunt said, "Jessica Rabbit meets Liza Minelli. [...] She should audition for the [candlestick] in Beauty and the Beast. [...] Bit of Twiggy as well." This woman has turned both my aunt and my mom gay. She is my favourite so far. Who is she. I am very gay.
Azerbaijan: That wasn't a dance, that was pilates/a battle between a man and his rogue, evil doppelganger. Nice voice.
Belgium: Ehhhhhhh (I was out getting brownies. Why are they putting all the ballads together.) Why does no one's shoes match the rest of their outfits tonight. Why is there always a Bond Theme-ish one.
Greece: Goodness that was beautiful. The staging was cool, but just the song on it's own. A memorable ballad, and that's not something I'd say often.
Iceland: Thank goodness the ballads are over.
Moldova: Beastie Boys with 80% more acordian. Moldova is 30 years behind the rest of Europe and I ran out of words to describe that one mid-performance.
Sweden: No shoes this time. Costume department is having an evening. My aunt made a comment about how hard you would have to slam your head on the floor to change the lights and I lost it.
Special Mention to the Presenter Moment Where One of the Norweigan Wolves Attempted to Kidnap Mika.
Australia: Eh. It's no ice queen on an oscillating stick.
UK: WE MIGHT ACTUALLY STAND A CHANCE HOLY SH!!!!! THAT WAS REALLY GOOD I FORGOT I WAS WATCHING THE UK ENTRY!! That was such a jam - rock, ballad, good staging, great costume, great singing!!
Special Mention to Mika Getting Lost, Saying Romania was Spain and Misreading His Autocue, Announcing Holland to be Next.
Poland: Current theory on the couch is that the costume department this year only has five pairs of shoes and keeps needing to run them between acts. While are they all so big. Why was that so wet.
Serbia: That was. A lot of things. It felt like a cross between a bad GCSE Drama devised piece, a dystopian hygiene advert, and whatever they meant by "God has abandoned us" or whatever it was.
Estonia: A fun bop to conclude. Funky little hop down across the stage.

Okay, I'm also curious about Cinderella but Everyone's Gay (lmao I hope that ends up being the real title)
Hahaha I think it might:D
This is actually the only fic idea back from my K-pop area that I plan on finishing? Because here the people I based the characters on feel like they are there to tell a story that is somewhere beyond them?
Basically, the way my country retells the story of Cinderella is quite particular and there is a very popular film from 1974 that has recently (2021) had a Norweigan, more modern remake where the two prince's male companions are in a romantic relationship? And I loved that so much I wanted to turn it into a fanfic and then I somehow made Cinderella male and then suddenly everyone was gay:D
I already have this fic planned scene by scene but there are a lot of scenes so it's taking a while to get through. Here's your snippet from what I've already written, I hope you don't mind it's of the only straight "couple" in the story, I thought it was a cute one.
[just to clarify, Yuna is the supposedly mean step-sister except she's not mean at all, and Jimin is another servant, the male Cinderella's friend]
“I don’t know if I can do this,” Yuna whispers as the royal carriage approaches and the servants run around to ensure a smooth arrival.
“What are you talking about?” her mother turns to her. “You were born for this.”
And maybe, these words would be comforting under different circumstances.
Seeing your mother believe in you.
But Yuna doesn’t feel that at this moment, not with her mother constantly reminding her to stand straight, smile, and not forget to bend her knees so that she doesn’t intimidate the prince with her height.
She tries, she really does, but it doesn’t seem all that relevant, especially not the last part, as the prince didn’t bother showing up.
That's how Yuna sees it, anyway, and how she tells Jimin later on, when they’re sneaking leftovers deep into the night.
“You might be wronging him, you know?” Jimin asks as she throws Yuna an apple. She catches it with ease.
“Please, he “fell behind because of studying the beauty of local nature?” Bam the horse can come up with a better excuse.”
Jimin smiles a little at that remark, although it doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
“You still got an invitation to the ball though, right?”
Yuna sighs. “We did.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“I don’t know. I want to go but I’m also nervous about this whole “prince” person. I mean, I haven’t even seen him, nor has he seen me, and now they want him to choose and marry me?”
“It is a little backwards process, yes. But who knows, maybe he’ll actually be a good fit for you.”
“Yeah, maybe,” Yuna replies but it could not be less convincing.
Jimin reaches forward to bump her shoulder lightly.
“Hey,” he says when she looks up at him. “If anything goes wrong, I’ll come to rescue you. Will Bam, full armor and all.”
Yuna’s smile gives them both a little more hope.

August 2023 purchases
Tumblr media
Well, this month I spent quite a bit money on CDs...
Neuroactive - Play
It all started with Neuroactive's Play maxi single. I didn't realise what was in it before I started listening it. One b-side track (Hiding from the Dawn) and a different mix of a rare track, Superficial (Chrome mix).
Superficial originally appeared on a Music from the Succubus Club compilation. It was related to Vampire: The Masquerade roleplaying game. Each song represented one vampire clan. Superficial was Toreador clan's song. I've been wanting to get that album for quite awhile, but it rarely pops on sale. Chrome mix has more going on, clearer vocals, but it isn't as tight song as the original.
Neuroactive - Put Your Trust on Me
Put Your Trust on Me and Phonic Trace arrived on mail today. Put Your Trust in Me has probably the most interesting song from all the single releases: Space Divider 99 remix. Space Divider appeared on the Phonic Trace album and it is arguably Neuroactive's most well known song. Originally it was sang by Vesa Rainne. Vesa left the band after Phonic Trace. Kimmo Karjalainen joined and sang on two albums. Of course they had to play Space Divider. 99 remix has Kimmo's vocals! Mixing is also different, but still quite interesting listening experience. I've only seen rare live clip, where Kimmo sang it live.
Neuroactive - Phonic Trace (Enhanced)
I already had Phonic Trace album. The Cyberware Productions version, that was released in Finland. But this is the A Different Drum label version, released one year later. Neuroactive signed a deal with A Different Drum, which they then released all the albums to Electra, when A Different Drum stopped operations. That's a reason why Neuroactive's albums are not so common in Europe, they weren't officially released here.
ADD version has different mixes of some songs. Also includes Invisible Transfers (Official Compund Mix), which appeared on Neuron single and Neurology compilation. Vapour (Inflammable mix) is the exclusive one here, with Vaporized Mix appearing on Neurology collection.
Kylie Minoque - Enjoy Yourself
Kylie Minoque I remember from early 2000's. "Can't Get You Out of My Head" was a song that was shown often on Jyrki (Finnish music show). But damn... She has done music for quite a long time. Have to respect her.
Enjoy Yourself was her second album. Surprisingly this is the Canadian release. Quickly looking at the reviews, it seems to be quite the average album. What I listened briefly, it's very 80's... But what people think about the album nowadays?
Michael Jackson - Invicible
I know Jackson's influence on pop music and his... reputation. I remember one music video from Invicible appearing on Jyrki too. On world premiere also, full version.
At the time, this album seemed to have recieved mixed reviews. But later it seems to have been ahead of its time. Sounds quite fresh. Features some dubstep elements, in 2001! In pop music though, dubstep is quite older than that :D
Disco Valente - Seen You Before
This I grabbed from local flea market. Project from Norweigan product Isak Rypdal. Can't say much, sure sounds like early 2000's dance music.
mind.in.a.box. - Black and White
This has been my most anticipated album of the year. It is quite different from what I expected. Then again all the MIAB albums are quite different, despite having similar elements. Not very club oriented, progressive elements, headphone friendly.
So far I've listened this few times through, not with total concentration though. Seems to be about the same quality as other albums. Good to great. Have to see how well this lands on my album ranking.

Okey by Smerz
Smerz - Because
I’m late to the party with this one, but I just discovered Smerz and I love this song. Low slung, rnb-infused electro pop that just grooves so nicely. They’ve got heaps of other stuff out too and it seems to be getting weirder with each release, which is always a good sign. Anyway, check this, a perfect pop hit in my little musical universe. -Kris

“Such A Boy” by Astrid S
Norwegian singer, songwriter and model, Astrid S released her EP, Party’s Over at the end of June which included her highly streamed songs “Breathe” and “Such A Boy.”
“Such A Boy” showcases the casual dating scene from the female perspective with a bouncy chorus that nestles itself into your ear. The song has Astrid S frustrated with her love interest and his lack of commitment and urges him to not be – you guessed it – such a boy. She also treated fans to an acoustic version of the EP which you can stream HERE.
Astrid S is currently on a European tour which you can find out more about tickets HERE and don’t be such a boy (or girl!) and give the song a stream above.

======================= GAUTE GRANLI / nor
Et voici ce que  le boss illuminé du label, Dennis Tyfus himself, a à en dire : The Norweigan wunderking of demented psychedelic song(de)struction is back with a fantastic collection of new songs. Gaute Granli is a one-man band, taking a complete stranger with thirsty ears by the nose, to leave him/her/them behind, confused and hungry for more recognisable hope. There's a constant form of recognition running through these 8 stretched songs, these strange flirts with folk music you think you already know, vocals that don't sound like they consist of words one knows and pop parts that are destroyed with a loop peddler. Although everything magically works, and made into a songstructure of sorts, a melancholic- almost religious air of desperation sits uncomfortably on top of all these songs like a frog that already got licked on its back twice in one morning.

Yndling is the dream-pop project of Norwegian artist Silje Espevik. This musical endeavour is the result of wanting to take complete creative control over her music. Through delicate soundscapes and oscillating synths, Yndling invites listeners into her own world, offering a place of escapism and resonance through her lyricism.
Tumblr media
Following the release of her debut single “Childish Fear,” Yndling is unveiling the sweet and euphoric “Cotton Candy Skies.” After feeling sad and a bit heartbroken for a while, Yndling found herself in a state of self-pity she couldn’t pull herself out of, almost taking comfort in the familiar feeling of being down. She confides, “The idea for the song came as I was walking home one evening and the sky was really brilliant with pink clouds all over. Normally I’m quite good at making small moments like that lift my mood and feel better, and it kind of struck me that I hadn’t really been doing that well on being present in my life lately.”
The first lyrics of the song goes, “Cotton Candy Skies, my life is floating by, and with the fear of no surprises, my mind it’s in the thinnest of slices”, touching on her feelings at that moment in time and how life seemed to be slipping through her fingers. The song acts as a reminder to shake yourself out of the funk, and to recognise your emotions without being overwhelmed with them. Through whimsical synths, an intoxicating groove and deliciously breathy vocals, Yndling draws us into her dreamy, pastel-coloured paradise.
Yndling takes influences from artists and bands such as Beach House, Tops, Crumb, Hatchie and Mazzy Star. When it comes to songwriting, the Norweigan artist often allows her feelings or experiences to engross her for a while in order to fully submerge herself in the reality of the emotions. She explains, “I think there is so much power in letting a feeling or experience be all-consuming, just for a little while, and I really need that to write music.”  Along with always trying to be as honest and vulnerable as possible, Yndling has an understanding that when writing, it is important to “throw away the fear of being too honest or maybe telling a truth that’s not recognized by everyone else and that may feel a little too close for comfort.” Yndling offers a kaleidoscope of imagination and feeling throughout her music and ensures her lyrics are just as positively affecting.

Farao debuts her new album “Pure-O” in her sister from another Mister hometown of Berlin next Thursday 24th of January
It’s been 6 years since Norwegian musician, Farao (Kari Jahnsen), released her first EP “Skin”, and as I sneak through her discography landing on her most recent LP “Pure-O”, I can’t help but have to be realz with you and say, how nice it is to see a musician evolve their sound & also perhaps be influenced by their part-time lover (aka place to call home) in Berlin.
Farao’s new album “Pure-O” is a disco inspired, synthy-pop, glitter tinged, beauty. Her new music video for her track “Marry Me”, directed by Irrum, shot by Andres Arochi & styled by Farao herself - ticks all of our music video cravings with its 80s, aerobic workout choreographed dance moves, and background set which flutters between post soviet-industrial shots of rusting factories and golden 1960s romance novel scenes by a lake.
“Pure-O” was released on October 19th, 2018 on Western Vinyl & Su Tissue Records and next week Jan 24th @ Marie Antoinette you can have the chance to see it performed LIVE! For tickets head here
