first ship post of the century
I HJAVE BEEN BUSTING A NUT WANTIGN TO DO THIS DUMB TREND ough. Ive been seeing it absolutley everywhere bu tive been so busy it turned out so shitty im actually gonna lose my mind
Since people will prolly not realise who this is unless they watch it - ITS THE BLOODY PAINTER AND THE PUPPETEER..
also i feel like im the only person in this fandom who still likes this ship idk they have a special place in my heart.. I know the canon fact that they were friends prior to helen's murderous crashout and uhh the puppeteer dying.. i know thats like.. not canon anymore according to delucat.. but.. yk... its a headcanon ill now take the grave. It works well with the story i have set out for these two so wtv I wanted to do so much more for this animatic/trend but i just dont have time chat im a busy bee this took me so long trying to work on it inbetween everything else... anywyas heres the stills
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jonathan has the scar on his neck to foreshadow the events of his death, in his alive design he doesnt have that its js for this animatic. :3 i actually have a whole bunch of animations and animatics of these two if oeople like this video i might post them idk

While I was talking with N about this whole weird Spock/Saavik thing (it's a wonderfully disgusting actually, for a lot of very good moral reasons, but I'll leave that for another post) I, of course, mentioned 765874 – Unification (something that could've been great if it hadn't been playing with this rather questionable idea). I happily watched this short before I started watching TOS (I'm the type of person who reads books from the last page), and honestly, I didn't have a clue who these people were in the frame except for K/S. I obviously found it terribly romantic and didn't go back to this short until I read about this story how thanks to Nimoy (our holy man) this whole wild concept of "Saavik pregnant with Spock's child" was scrapped and thrown in the trash, but OTOY for some reason decided to bring this dead dog back to life... and I honestly have a lot of questions for him, but again, that's not what today's post is about.
So while we were having our evening coffee with my sister, I decided to show her this short in the context of our recent conversation. And at the part where K/S are holding hands and looking at the sunset, she remembered that something similar happened in Metamorphosis /that's what the Companion wanted, so that they could just hold hands and meet the sunset together, the author of this video must have loved this episode like you/. It always amazes me how my sister becomes a completely sincere K/S shipper at the most unexpected moments, and then pretends that it didn't happen. Her memory of these events in Metamorphosis wasn't entirely accurate, but it does have its own interesting parallels:
NANCY: Oh, let me walk, Zefram. Let me feel the earth against my feet. Let me feel the warmth of the sun on my face. You beside me. Let me feel these things. KIRK: Go ahead, Cochrane We have a few things to do. (Cochrane and Nancy walk off hand in hand.)
In Metamorphosis Companion actually wanted to feel alive (through physical touch) [the Companion's situation is actually much more complicated than that, but that's not what today is about, so I've simplified this point], be next to Cochrane, and in the end of this scene they do go into (not-sunset) together holding hands:

In Unification, the most important thing is its ending, where Kirk and Spock are finally together, holding each other's hands and facing the sunset:

The relationship between K/S, and especially TOS Kirk and his attitude towards love generally/his feelings for Spock, has a very strong connection to what Metamorphosis is all about, and that's why I find this episode so important. For me, it's a very TOS thing, this transcendent matter that's harder to combine with the more physical, constrained side of post-TOS films, but at some point it still works in the context of K/S. I don't really see this whole post-TOS development as canon to the original series (and especially this twisted in-the-worst-traditions-of-the-genre genesis story), but if we take this "growing old together" theme that permeates the films separately, there was actually another interesting moment in Metamorphosis that works well with this whole path to Unification:
SPOCK: But you will age, both of you. There will be no immortality. You'll both grow old here and finally die. COCHRANE: That's been happening to men and women for a long time. I've got the feeling it's one of the pleasanter things about being human, as long as you grow old together.
Growing old together, it was supposed to be like this, wasn't it? I don't think OTOY really intended to rehash Metamorphosis, but it's a very interesting parallel that slightly changes my perception of the entire course of events in the post-TOS films, not making them more canonical to TOS, but adding some integrity to them in their own space.

finally caught up a wee bit with dr who, i skipped the babies one cos it sounded terrible, went with the music episode.
good things: i like the doctor and the baddy was fun and clarose (i forgot her name twice now) is fine. also a very good episode for reaction images:

less good: i think i made a few of those faces myself while watching. what i assume was foreshadowing was pretty bad (had someone decided "one word repeated every episode" wasn't enough?). i am not sure why the doctor knew exactly what was happening, i don't mind that as an occasional plot device (they do know pretty much everything, after all) but it felt over done in this. why was there a music battle? why was there a song? WHY IS MURRAY GOLD BACK, HAD WE NOT AT LAST BANISHED HIM?

What I love most about Roxton and Marguerite's relationship is that at first you might think that John Roxton is going to be this macho man, this hunter who sees a beautiful woman as a prize to be won, a rare jewel for him to discover. And you might think "aha, so it's going to be this kind of dynamic, oh boy..."
But then it turns out he is the sweetest, the kindest and the most considerate man in existence, a man who falls head over heels for a woman who is not the easiest person to love - and day after day he teaches her what love and compassion is, he helps her open up, accepts all parts of her, loves her and protects her no matter what. To add to that, he is flirty and playful, but also pretty vulnerable at times.
Marguerite's character adds to the beauty of her relationship with Roxton as much as Roxton's does. When we are introduced to her, we see her as a self-serving, cunning and manipulative person, someone who is driven only by her own desires, who does everything for her own personal gain. However, as the story unfolds, we see that her cold and calculating nature is a carefully crafted façade that she hides behind, and she slowly learns to trust others, starts to share her insecurities with people who little by little become her family.
Make no mistake, at the end of the day Marguerite is still bold, snarky and as morally gray as can be, but she is also softer, kinder to herself and to others, and it adds volumes to the complexity of her character. And the fact that she finds a man who challenges her and argues with her when she is wrong, but who still loves her unconditionally, who helps her heal, who makes her understand that she deserves so much more that she allows herself to have is so utterly beautiful and so important to me.

I finally finished making this after wasting more than a month on it, even though I had all the time in the world to be able to finish it in only a day or two, but whatever. I obviously wanted to draw these two for Pride Month. For my Always Sunny AU, this is a reference to the episode when Mac and Dennis are pretending to be real estate agents who are also a couple. Both this show and The 7D are definitely very different shows, one being very family-friendly while the other is not. The 7D is, of course, an underrated show, and even though Always Sunny has been airing for almost 20 years, it is still underrated to me, at least.
