The Gaang’s Favorite Foods
Aang is an ovo-lacto vegetarian. He still consumes milk and eggs, just nothing that requires killing an animal. Being more used to getting nutrients from a variety of plant foods including nuts and seeds, supported by nutrient rich bison milk and whatever eggs they eat in this world, Aang’s diet is surprisingly diverse and not as restrictive as it first seems. People have and still do eat this way. He loves egg tarts!
Sokka is a growing teen boy, used to a high-fat diet of primarily fish, mollusks, large ruminants, marine mammals (and their blubber), full fat milk, eggs, blood, etc, and only minorly supported by additional foods like seaweed, berries, tubers, perhaps the occasional imported flour or rice. He is going to need a LOT of animal meat and fat. Especially organs. The cookbook says he loves dried salmon collars.
Katara is also a growing teen girl, and considering what starts for girls around her age, she probably also has higher iron requirements. Heme-iron (from meat) is the most easily absorbed, and if it’s what her body is accustomed to, I imagine there’s going to be a lot of cravings there too. It’s possible she slowly converted to a vegetarian diet eventually, but there isn’t actually anything in canon to say that Katara and Aang didn’t just maintain different diets. The comics and cookbook say she likes soups and stews including sea prunes which are actually a type of mollusk.
Toph comes from a wealthy family. Although most of the Earth Kingdom relies primarily on staple grains (rice mainly, but also others), she likely had a decently diverse diet compared to others. Including plenty of meat (beef, chicken, duck, pork), a variety of vegetables, and even luxury items like refined sugar. According to the cookbook, she doesn’t like to eat her vegetables, which implies she had open access to meat for most of her life. She is fond of tea eggs.
Zuko comes from the wealthiest nation which is also in a tropical climate. He’d have access to a plethora of fruits the others had never even heard of! Tropical fruits, berries, coconut, and all the different dishes you can make with them. The nutrient-rich volcanic soil would also lend itself to farming, giving this country plenty of fresh vegetables and staple grains. However, culturally they seem to be a meat and seafood loving people, and spiciness is critical! Being a prince, Zuko would have even more access to all of the above than the common person. According to the cookbook, his favorite snack is sizzle-crisps which is basically fried and seasoned pork belly. He also sneaks Komodo-chicken to his uncle in prison.
BONUS:
Azula, like Zuko, is royalty in a nation blessed with great diversity of fruits, meat, seafood, and fresh veggies. We know she attended a harsh military academy which puts its students through rigorous survival training. Azula knows how to live off the land and likely can survive off of whatever petty things she can forage or catch. But being royalty, she is more accustomed to having whatever she desires prepared for her. She seems to have a bit of a sweet tooth, which can happen when you give a teen unfettered access to luxury goods like sugar. With her nation’s relatively advanced stage of industrialization, certain more processed foods and desserts are available to her. She is fond of cherries and in the comics she is a fiend for mochi!

[ok i know this is a little foolish because it’s literally june 1st but my lacrosse season ended which i relied on a lot to burn off cals so now i have to REALLY watch what i’m eating & unfortunately i am a binger so i need to set a plan]

Doc's Best In Goddamn Show Montana State Fair Coconut Cream Pie

As promised, the baked good that did the best, I'll release the recipe. This is one of my favorite pies of all time, hewed into a perfect custard-based pie that won me my first Best in Show rosette in nine years. And pies is even a tough category!
The other shocking thing: This is one of the easiest pies I make. It's very much "don't worry about it." It even tastes better if you make everything but the topping the day before serving.
“Doc, why don’t you use cream of coconut for the custard?” Friend, I tried for years to get that to work, only to find out that cream of coconut just does not bake up as nice as milk and cream, so I use a nice extract and toast the coconut to get the flavors. 
YOU WILL NEED:
A crust (I presume you can either make or buy a crust. I might even have a recipe here on the blog, I can’t remember) 
Pie: 
5 eggs
¾ cup caster/baker’s sugar 
2 cups of whole milk
½ cup half and half (I believe this is called half cream in the UK)
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
1 tsp coconut extract (I like Olivenation or watkins. Also, bear in mind you may need to use more. I do this to taste and the tsp is a guess on my part. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you where to taste in the recipe) 
Pinch salt
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
Topping:
2 cups heavy cream VERY COLD (can use whipping or double also, but I prefer heavy) 
2 tablespoons jello or jello style pudding mix, coconut 
Powdered/icing sugar (this will be to taste) 
Decoration: Most definitely toasted coconut. I really like Nuts.com’s organic dried coconut chips, but it depends on how flush I’m feeling--I did not use it in this competition. Macadamia nuts are great, dried pineapple, for this competition I used coconut rolls from costco. This is mostly for visual appeal, so be creative. 
Toast your coconut: Put the oven at 350F. Put some parchment down on a baking sheet, and then put your sweetened flaked coconut on the sheet. Don’t forget to put in a bit extra for your topping decoration. Toast for about five minutes, it will probably need a stir and watch it closesy--coconut burns easy. When it’s a nice pale golden, pull it and up the temperature of the oven to 375F. 
Blind bake your crust. If you haven’t done this before, I think it’s easy but admit maybe not everyone will. Roll your crust out into a pie plate, just like you always would, and then cover the bottom with tin foil, and fill with pie weights or beans, or rice--I’m a big fan of using sugar. Whatever you use. Bake it about 15-17 minutes, it should be lightly brown at the edges. Take out the pie weight you used. Bake it about 5 minutes more, just so the bottom gets very lightly toasted. 
Make the filling! Beat your eggs in in a large bowl until they are very well combined but not whipped. Beat in everything but the coconut itself. NOW TASTE IT. Does it taste coconutty enough, or do you want to add a little more extract? Have an easy hand with the stuff, it’s powerful. Mix in the toasted coconut. 
Yeah, I’m serious, that was the whole of the filling instructions. I told you this was ridiculously easy. 
Bake: Pour your filling (carefully) into the pie crust, and cover the edges of your pie crust so it doesn’t burn (I use tin foil, but they do make fancy pie shields). I like to put it on a jelly roll pan so it’s easier for me to take in and out of the oven. You’re going to bake it at 375F for about 30-40 minutes, but the real test is: if you shake it a little, is it set at the sides but with a little wiggle in the center? That’s when it’s done. 
Let it cool totally. 
Topping! Beat your cold cream and pudding mix together, adding the powdered sugar slowly. I start with a quarter cup and work my way up until it’s as sweet as I like. I prefer a harder peak for this, but soft peaks are acceptable if you enjoy that more. Decorat with your topping choices!

“oh, that’s quite a lot!” baizhu remarked as he noticed you and qiqi empty the bags full of halloween treats on the floor. he was right, all because you and qiqi decided to continue trick or treating far enough to receive a lot that varied in different types of treats. you laughed and nodded in reply while trying to organize it all to be stored in a jar you prepared while baizhu kneeled down to join you and qiqi.
however, it seemed that baizhu wouldn’t stop sneaking a few small ones into his mouth.
“baizhu, less eating and more helping!”
“i am helping, y/n. i’m lessening the ones needed to be put away, am i not?”
you squinted your eyes at the green haired man while he just shot you with his closed eyed half smile, half smirk as he continued ‘helping’. you sighed and continued, not until you noticed qiqi’s face that featured her adorable, little pout while she fiddled the ends of her mummy costume with her small fingers.
you smiled softly and opted to move closer to her before you placed a comforting hand behind her back. “qiqi, what’s wrong? are you tired?” she only shook her head and furrowed her brows with her head hung low.
however, you didn’t need to try to gain an answer from her when you noticed how much she shifted her eyes at the candies and chips in front of her, as if looking for something. so you smiled and placed a tender hand on her cheek to make her look up to you, “qiqi, i prepared a little ‘treat’ for you! oh- and it’s your favorite!”
“qiqi’s… favorite…?” you giggled when her eyes shone in a combination of curiosity and excitement. you nodded at her before you stood up and made your way towards the kitchen to get something from the refrigerator. you returned with your hands behind your back, hiding the item from qiqi while baizhu chuckled for he already knew what you had prepared this morning for the little one.
“alright. now, you have to ask me the spoooky~ question before i give it to you!”
qiqi curiously gazed up at your kneeled figure with your hands behind your back. nevertheless, she stood up and picked up her halloween bag beside her as her hands stretched it open for you. “trick or treat…!” despite her soft, quiet voice, she tried her best to say it louder than she did during earlier’s trick or treating.
“here’s your treat, cocogoat milk!” you smiled at qiqi and showed her what you had, coconut milk — or cocogoat milk, as she always calls it — stored in a pumpkin-shaped bottle and a straw. a wide smile found its way onto her features as she placed her bag down and took the bottle with both of her hands, she quickly expressed her thankfulness and, without a second wasted, started sipping on the straw. the delighted hum and the sparkles in her eyes made you smile.
“so,” baizhu started once you’ve stood up with the jar full of treats in your hands, “do i get a treat too?”
“well, did you say ‘trick or treat’? and, you’re not wearing a costume.”
your little banter with baizhu was interrupted once you felt qiqi tug on the ends of your costume. you smiled and kneeled down on her level to hear her out.
“can qiqi… ask for another?…”

ꔛ RAIDEN EI
it’s early in the evening as you smiled after you finished filling the first container with different varieties of candies, chocolates, biscuits, and chips. you didn’t have to worry about the second container that you trusted ei to fill; after all, she was the one that voluntarily offered a hand after noticing how many you and her bought from the other day’s grocery shopping.
you picked up the filled container and turned around to walk towards your girlfriend, whose back was turned to you as she filled her container.
“honey, are you done?—” you noticed how her actions froze upon hearing your voice, while your words halted as your eyes landed upon the reason behind it.
“ei!” you called, your voice a bit louder in shock. “i told you to fill the container, not eat it!” you now moved to stand beside her sitting figure by the dinner table and placed your container on the table. “those are for the kids who’ll be knocking on our door to trick or treat later…” you sighed.
ei lifted her head up to look at you with her witch hat still on her head. “well…” she started, her voice a little mumbled as she still had her mouth full, only continuing once she had swallowed. “you mentioned that it was ‘my’ container, i thought it meant that the contents are mine as well, love.” you grumbled at her words and shook your head. why didn’t you expect this from her?
she lifted her hand to show you a piece of chocolate with the wrapper still in-tack to it, giving you a view of her nails that were painted purple, “also, this is my favorite among it all. you really made an amazing decision for buying this, darling.”
it was the chocolate that you were unsure of buying due to its unfamiliar brand. “really?” she nodded at your question. you lifted your hand in order to take the piece of wrapped chocolate from her fingers, only for her to move it away from your reach.
ei stood up in order to stretch her arm that held the chocolate higher, totally out of your reach, but you still tried your best to reach it; standing on your toes and hopping. it didn’t click to you that your body was pressed against hers, faces barely a few centimeters away from each other.
it also didn’t click to you that her free arm was now wrapped around your waist and you weren’t fast enough to notice her lips pressed against yours in a loving kiss. your widened eyes stared at her, whose eyes were closed, soon you wrapped your arms around her and kissed back with your eyes closed. ei’s kisses always felt so electrifying no matter the intensity, it left sparks and tingles.
it makes you breathless, ‘til you wish every moment could last for eternity.
but, now, you could taste something deliciously sweet from her lips. it taste like chocolate.
when ei pulled away from the kiss, she took notice of your flushed cheeks and chuckled.
“so, how did it taste, darling?”

ꔛ ALBEDO KREIDEPRINZ
“trick or treat!”
it were the three same words you’ve been hearing for the past hour ever since people of different ages wearing costumes started knocking on your door, you’ve given treats to every single one of them. however, this time, you recognized very well who was the little girl wearing an orange-black colored dress with a pumpkin hat on top of her head accompanied by an older male wearing what seemed to be a prince costume.
“hm…” you placed a hand on your hip as you pretended to think. “i think i don’t have anything left to give to the both of you.”
“eh- but!! i thought you said klee will get a looot of treats if klee dressed up!?” you noticed that klee lifted the pumpkin on her head to be able to look up to you properly. you laughed and shook your head before showing to the pair the container full of treats and took multiple handfuls of sweets to stuff into her and albedo’s halloween bags. klee’s eyes sparkled and her wide smile reappeared as she looked at the contents of her bag before looking back up to you again. “thank you sooo muuuch~!” you placed a hand on her head and ruffled her hair with a smile.
“i’m sorry that we stopped by quite late, flower. klee and i decided to start from the ones near our neighborhood before we expanded our route.” albedo apologized.
you shook your head, “it’s totally fine, ‘bedo. it’s actually an amazing strategy to get more treats.” you laughed and albedo nodded with an adoring smile on his face that you didn’t notice was because of you.
you felt a tug at the end of your clothes; the moment you looked down, you’re met with klee’s pleading eyes. “can you join klee and albedo onii-chan for trick-or-treating?” your eyes widened, would that really be a good idea?
“it’ll be fun.” albedo mused. “after all, our costume quite matches each other’s, no?” your eyes automatically scanned his costume, then yours. once you realized that the theme of the costumes matched, even without having it planned, your cheeks gained a red hue and warmth you couldn’t shake off.
in your flustered silence, albedo chuckled and offered you a hand, accompanied by a charming and loving smile on his lips.
“shall we, your highness?”

ꔛ ARATAKI ITTO
you groan with your hand on your forehead as itto and his friends receive another set of candies inside their bags. why were you here again, anyway? right, itto had actually convinced you to accompany him for trick-or-treating, even got you convinced to wear an oni costume that matches his.
he turns around to leave after thanking the kind owner of the house, but never forgets to wrap his arm around your waist to bring you along with him while his other hand held his halloween bag. his set of rowdy friends were silenced by shinobu when she noticed that almost all eyes on the street are on them for being too loud. in the mean time, your eyes looked up at itto who was too busy enjoying his pumpkin-shaped lollipop while striding towards a new house to trick-or-treat to.
"itto, are you seriously going to go for another house?"
"babe, of course! it's halloween, so we shouldn't waste this opportunity to get snacks for free!"
you flash him a dumbfounded look, which he laughs at. "if you just wanted free snacks, i could have just bough some and gave it to you for free so we wouldn't have to go trick-or-treating."
at your words, realization, shock, and panic fills the expression of his face as he immediately scrabbled closer in front of you.
"no! that won't do! we had to go trick-or-treating together. it wouldn't be fun without your dear boyfie, righttt?" he reasoned before he showed you his phone's lockscreen wallpaper — which was the picture he took of the both of you earlier before stepping out to trick or treat. "look!! we look absolutely cute and awesome together with our matching costumes i bought for us!"
you wouldn't — couldn't — deny it, really, he was right. it made you giddy knowing that he was the one that initiated something so couple-y. you laughed and shook your head at him, no matter how much you could possibly say 'no', you found trick or treating with itto endearing.
"alright, fine." you grinned, unable to hold it back anymore. "if you don't give me a bag right now, i'm dragging the both of us home right now."
itto's loud, enthusiastic laugh echoed into your ears and you still couldn't help but feel the butterflies. after he gave you an empty and unused halloween bag, he flashed you his grin that showed his fangs while he interlocked his larger fingers with yours securely.
"but, babe, i'm stealing all the lollipops you get."
"what!? no fair, itto! at least trade it with my favorites!"

"no."
clear, stern, and emphasized. that's how scaramouche answered with every halloween costume you've presented to him, hoping that at least one will tickle his fancy. however, it has been so long and you've lost count of how many costumes he had turned down — which were, all of the costumes you've shown him. you've offered him to personally look one for himself on his own, in hopes that it could solve the problem.
but he merely skimmed through it all.
"come on, pleaase, kuni?" you pleaded. "it'll be so cute with us wearing something that matches for the party!"
"y/n, we are not children to be going around wearing costumes in halloween." he retorted with his arms still firmly crossed against his chest.
"but it makes up for the occasion!" you reasoned out while showing him two costumes that matches with one another. "how about we wear this?" you smiled, but the sigh he releases makes you lower your arms from holding up the two costumes before putting it back into the costume store's rack.
it makes you think that maybe scaramouche wasn't a fan of dressing up, trick-or-treating, or that he isn't really a fan of halloween as a whole. so with a bit of a heavy heart, you returned every costume you've presented to him. with how busy you were, you don't notice him watching you with guilt in his indigo irises. he's too harsh on this — on you.
your hand held the hanger of the vampire costume, the last that you had to put back, until a gentle hand stopped you from doing so before the owner had stole the costume away from your hands. you look up and watch as scaramouche examines the coat, your eyes confused as he looks back at you.
"i think i'll wear this." scaramouche turns to you as you notice the superiority on his voice disappear. "and you can wear this." he said as he got another vampire costume that matches with the one he plans to wear.
"k-kuni, you don't really have to if you don't want to-"
"i want to." he states firmly, yet his voice is soft. "for you."
