The Koronides
They sacrificed themselves to save Boeotia. Persephone took pity upon the sisters and turned them into comets.
Return to your father, ever weeping daughters of Orion, and rest in peace.

15 Days of Freyja Devotion
Tumblr media
Day 3: Symbols and Attributes
Some of Freyja's Symbols are:
Cats. She is said to ride in a chariot pulled by cats, but these wouldn't have been domesticated housecats. To Freyja's earliest worshipers, cats were wild animals and fierce predators that could pose a serious threat. However, many modern worshipers associate Freyja with housecats as well -- myself included.
Boar. Both Freyja and her brother Freyr are associated with boar. Freyja rides a boar named Hildisvini ("battle swine"). Freyja may be associated with pigs more generally, since one of her names is Syr, "sow."
Falcons. Freyja has a cloak made of falcon feathers that gives the one wearing it the ability to change shape and fly. I personally associate Freyja with falcons and hawks.
Gold. "Gold" is used to describe the Aesir and the things associated with them in the Poetic Edda, but Freyja especially is associated with gold. Gold is sometimes called "Freyja's tears" as a kenning.
Amber is also associated with Freyja, possibly because of a shared connection to the ocean (amber sometimes washes up on the shore in Scandinavia).
The distaff and other spinning tools are associated with Freyja and with the goddess Frigg. Spinning was a very important part of Norse womanhood, and on one level, the distaff probably just shows that Freyja is a goddess of women. On the other hand, there seems to be some sort of connection between spinning and magic in Norse culture, so this may also represent Freyja as a goddess of magic.
The seidr staff is also associated with Freyja. Seidr staves weren't literally distaves, but they did look similar and some scholars argue that seidr staves were intentionally made to resemble spinning staves. Whatever the case, both types of staff are associated with Freyja.
Apples are associated with Freyja, and in Swedish folk practices people left some ripe apples in the trees as an offering to her.
Maidenhair, Adiantum capillus-veneris, was called "Freyja's Hair" in Iceland.
Common milkwort, Polygala vulgaris, was originally also called "Freyja's Hair" in Scandinavia but was renamed after the Virgin Mary during the Conversion period.
Orchids were also associated with Freyja before the conversion. While this was specifically a Northern European species of orchid, I personally associate all orchid flowers with her.
Rye is connected to Freyja in Sweden, where Freyja is said to oversee the ripening of rye.
Sheet lightning is said to be a symbol of Freyja's rage in Sweden.
The constellation we call Orion's Belt was called "Freyja's Distaff" or "Frigg's Distaff" in Sweden.

I think maybe it's time for...
Illari Fashion pt.3
Pt.1 and pt.2
Continuing what's becoming our tour of the Republic provinces, let's take a stop at the political heavyweight that is Jang Yun. This large province is located on the Golden Sea, a fertile plain known for its incredible farmland. Because of this, Jang Yun is the breadbasket of the Republic, and indeed the rest of Iarl. It's probably the most influential province after Juntsov because of this. Much of their culture was influenced by the Janazi island of U'reba, where most of the original Jang Yun settlers originated from.
But yall are here for pretty dresses, not a history lesson, so let's see some of those!
Tumblr media
Intricate embroidery is a necessity for any noblewoman. Jang Yun clothing is highly gendered, and most women wear skirts even while working in the fields. Aprons are also common, stemming from a U'reban tradition of service and hospitality. However, noblewomen have adapted this into the trend of a wide, decorative swatch of fabric hanging from their belt. They wouldn't want to look like peasant women, after all. Caps are also commonly worn when out and about.
Now, let's see some lads!
Tumblr media
Here we see a fancier version of the outdoors hat in a nobleman's traveling suit. Skirts are also relatively common among men in Jang Yun, much more so than pants are common among women, though this is a more recent development. I also added a traditional scholar's outfit. Jang Yun is known for their well-trained scribes and scholars. These academics often wear a black tunic and gloves missing the first two fingers as a sign of their station.
And that's a wrap! Jang Yun clothes are popular across the Republic due to their weighty cultural influence and the size of their province.
Thanks for reading and have a bitchin day :)

Two Alien people that I made <3
Hephzia means “my delight is in her”
She’s a performer at a popular club located on Orion’s Belt. The girls want to be like her. The men love her. The women hate her. Don’t let her angelic guise fool you, she’s been in her fair share of trouble.
Stella
Known to the people as the “Xalbadora”
“Savior”
Although she lives a peaceful life on a farm only a planet away from us -Mars- she has been on many a quest, and always comes home victorious. If you visit her -and help out with a few chores around the farm- she’ll tell you exactly what went down on Jupiter in January 2056.

as an Agender, I’ve seen a lot of attempts at redoing the gender spectrum
having the opposite ends be male/female or masculine/feminine
adding a second axis of “zero gender” to “extremely gender” to try to capture the idear that there are two opposite ways to be androgynous: having zero gender markers and having a mixture of highly gendered markers from both the masculine and feminine sides of the spectrum
adding a third axis of how much an individual actually cares about their gender
and...when there was only one axis, I started seeing agender show up as not on the axis at all, which imo is how it should be.  But on the two axis versions, agender is on the center line between masculine and feminine and at the extreme end of ‘zero gender markers’, and in the three axis versions agender is put at the extreme end of ‘not caring about their gender’
ok i’m losing my ability to do linguistic cohesion so I”m going to switch to bullet points;
the gender binary is wrong and pseudoscientific but trying to make more and better graphs that explain gender as a spectrum is also kinda pseudoscientific
it’s like......you could say Orion’s Belt is a spectrum from the rightmost star to the leftmost star with the middle one being in the middle but that’s dumb because it’s only in the middle from our perspective on earth, in reality the stars are hundreds of light years away from each other and form a triangle if you draw straight lines between them
putting agender on a graph of gender spectrum is like making a spectrum of christian sects and having an axis for ‘more jesus’ to ‘less jesus’ and putting judaism at the extreme end of ‘no jesus’.  Jews aren’t jesusless xtians, jews aren’t on the xtian spectrum at all because jews aren’t xtians
having masculine and feminine at opposite ends of the spectrum........c’mon when are we gonna move past this.  Masculine is just things stereotypically associated with men, and feminine is things stereotypically associated with women and we all know that it’s highly contextual.  Cooking is feminine unless it’s outdoors at a barbecue in which case it’s masculine, so if cooking is simultaneously masculine and feminine then masculine and feminine can’t be opposites.  Also calling them opposites is the new progressive way of saying men and women are opposites
I care a lot that my gender is “none” and that I’m agender, it freed me from a lot of dysphoria wrt trying to live up to the standards imposed on my agab, so unilaterally putting agender at the end of the “doesn’t care” spectrum is shitty.  If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t’ve cared enough to crack my egg!

Today Sabine as...
Series 6 Post 20: Goddess of marriage, motherhood and clairvoyance. One of the most important deities in Norse mythology, celestial wife of Odin, she is also called "lady of the sky" or "lady of the gods"
🌸 The etymology of the term Frigg can be found in many Nordic cultures, both in the Scandinavian ones as in the Old Norse (genitive Friggjar) or in the Swedish word fria ("candidate for marriage") or in the Icelandic frjá ("to love"). Either in Old Saxon Fri ("lady"), or in English Frig, or in Germanic Frijō. Furthermore, Frigg is a word related to Sanskrit, in which the definition prīyā́, meaning "wife", appears.[
🌸 Frigg's palace in Ásgarðr is the Fensalir, meaning "marshy halls". This may have been because marshy lands were considered sacred to the goddess. The goddess Sága, who has been described drinking with Óðinn from her golden cup in her "Sunken Benches" hall, may be Frigg, with a different name. Frigg is the protector of brides and births and the Scandinavian people used to use the zolfino rennet plant (Galium verum) as a sedative, it was called Frigg's grass.
🌸 Friday was formerly the day consecrated both to the goddess Frigg and to the celebration of weddings and the fruitful union of the married couple. So one of the peculiar tasks of the deity consisted in assisting couples, helping sterile women and those still alien to acts of love. In addition to this, according to tradition, the goddess assisted pregnant women, trying to limit their pain and suffering.
🌸The constellation Orion's Belt was also known as Frigg's Spinning Mill (Friggerock or Frejerock). Some say that the constellation is located in the celestial equator and that the stars that rotate in the night were moved by Frigg's spinning wheel.

Putting on Hairs - Post Production: Seinaru Mori
Primary Pairing Trio: EmmaKanaKarin Rating: G? Words: 339 AU: Monsters, Cryptids Fandom: Love Live Nijigasaki Parent Fic: Putting on Hairs - Post Production Time Frame: Sometime after the main story Event: Promptober 2022 Event Source: Idol Fanfic Heaven channel on Discord Prompt: Forest Content Warning: Some descriptions of said cryptids
---------
Author’s Note: Primary entry for Oct 19th
Summary: Emma takes Kanata and Karin to a special forest
---------
“How much farther…?” Kanata drawled drearily.
The three young women had been hiking for quite a while, in fact Karin had actually lost track. However, the time wasn’t what bothered her, in and of itself, it was that they had left the main trail barely a hundred meters from the station. Where were they?
“Just a little farther.” Emma assured cheerfully.
“That’s what you said last time…” Kanata muttered.
Karin couldn’t help being amused by her girlfriends’ antics. Even if part of her wished she could just spread her wings and fly. Flying was so much better than walking. And it was easier to navigate when she could see everything from above. Unlike when walking, Karin had never gotten lost when flying.
“We’re here.” Emma finally announced. “Seinaru Mori.”
Sacred Forest?
“Eh? Emma?” Karin questioned as she watched her girlfriend start to grow.
Twenty meters. More? The giant’s head poked up above the tops of the trees.
Wow… Karin thought. This was the first time she had seen Emma’s true size.
“Fwaaa~!” Emma stretched. “It’s been too long since I’ve been able to do this… Ne, Karin-chan, Kanata-chan, come on up!”
With a puff of purple smoke, Kanata changed into a small, fluffy sheep with purple horns. The somnophore then floated up to alight upon Emma’s shoulder.
“Won’t someone see…?” Karin asked.
Emma shook her head. “Fuji-san protects all secrets here. And this place cannot be found, or even observed by those without such secrets.”
Huh… How had Karin never heard of this place? She had lived in Tokyo all her life and yet somehow Emma, who had only moved here within the last few years, was the one showing her.
“C’mon up!” Kanata called, noticing Karin’s hesitation. “The view is wonderful!”
Giving in, the succubus finally spread her wings and flew up to take a spot on Emma’s other shoulder.
“Gah!?” She startled as she noticed a giant skull looming near her.
“Oh my, I am terribly sorry.” A voice like rattling bones sounded. “I did not mean to frighten you, Succubus-san.”
“Tokotsu-san!” Emma greeted warmly. “I didn’t hear you there.”
“Such is my nature.” The skeleton… gashakokuro? shrugged. “Are these the two you were talking about last time?”
“Yes.” Emma nodded and introduced her girlfriends.
After a short chat, the trio moved deeper into the woods. Along the way, Emma continued to introduce the two to the other monsters and cryptids they encountered.
There were so many, Karin ended up having trouble keeping track. She remembered a trio of kamaitachi with names all referring to their sickle-like claws. A couple of basan birds visiting from Ehime. A Hibagon named Tsumasaki, who had moved here from Mt. Hiba. A family of kappa. A giant swarm of jinshin-mushi. And many others.
They shared a wonderful meal hosted by a futakuchi-onna, Uetanai, as Emma introduced her, in a clearing where dozens of youkai had gathered. Some were denizens of the forest, while many were visitors like the trio.
Finally, as the sun began to set, Emma led the trio to another clearing, a little ways up the slope of Mt. Fuji itself.
“This is my favorite place.” Emma explained, laying on the grass. “The protections on this forest also ward off unnatural light.”
Meaning we’ll have a clear view of the stars?” Kanata surmised.
Emma smiled. “Exactly.”
“Oh, Kanata-chan can already see Orion’s belt.” The sheep pointed as best as she could.
Karin couldn’t help chuckling at the awkwardly cute display. “Thank you for brining us here, Emma.” She said after a moment. “Honestly, if I wasn’t so used to living in the city, I could live here.”
Emma and Kanata hummed in agreement.
“But we can at least spend the night.” Emma said. “I’ll keep you two warm.”
“That sounds nice.” Kanata yawned.
Karin and Kanata settled together in the crook of Emma’s arm. The trio then spent the next hour or so stargazing before falling into a comfortable slumber.
---------
Author’s Note Continued: This is a chapter I really look forward to expanding on. I’d like to write more about the other cryptids encountered by the trio, and definitely more about the goings on at the dinner.

The Napaljarri-warnu Jukurrpa (Seven Sisters Dreaming) depicts the story of the seven ancestral Napaljarri sisters who are found in the night sky today in the cluster of seven stars in the constellation Taurus, more commonly known as Pleiades. The Pleiades are seven women of the Napaljarri skin group and are often depicted in the paintings of this Jukurrpa carrying the Jampijinpa man 'Wardilyka' (the bush turkey) who is in love with the Napaljarri-warnu and who represents the Orion's Belt cluster of stars. Jukurra-jukurra, the morning star, is a Jakamarra man who is also in love with the seven Napaljarri sisters and is often shown chasing them across the night sky. In a final attempt to escape from the Jakamarra, the Napaljarri-warnu turned themselves into fire and ascended to the heavens to become stars.

Ohhh I don't know if I ever recommended this song for you but I have a recommendation, a few if I may😌
Carolina Polachek - So hot you're hurting my feelings(the 70s and retro feel, at least that's the feeling it gives me). Believe it or not this reminded me of one of my old SPs(no longer because by the time I got into law of assumption I was over him and he was SO much older than me I was like no).
Rini - Emerald, Aphrodite(I dedicate this to women😌), Good Intentions, Meet me in Amsterdam, just listen to all his songs, they're all amazing, especially the RnB😩
Sabrina Claudio- Orion's belt, Rumors, Holding the Gun, Belong to You.
This is for now, tell me if you like them if you do check them out😌 or tell me what you think about them if you already know them😅
i loveeee caroline polachek, i've been listening to her new album on repeat! i will check out the other songs and get back to you 🤍🤍🤍

I am fixing my brain with images
history
I barely remember.
Timelines just jumble up and I feel remorse
I am disengaged.
I help myself by reading of wit and wisdom
and I wonder how to strike that balance
I want to laugh at myself.
How can I attain their love
or admiration.
This is a thought that enters my mind, then I am reminded that it should not matter.
I should want to love my own life, and what does my own life give to me?
I see the raindrops are falling and I am reminded of the smell of the ocean back home, and the puddles that create small ponds on the beach
The dry coast becomes a marsh.
I can remember that my hands are big like my fathers
My heavy steps are like his.
I wish I could be connected to something that gave me greater ideas.
Inspiration.
It is Sunday. It is January. I do not think it will be good if I push the agenda. He needs these things. I need to pray to wind. I have no tether other than my insecurity. It pins me to the ground like a safety pin. Am I grounded? I feel boring.
Orions belt is a constellation bore from the pursuit of rape and demonstration over women. Maybe pursuit of love or obsession of the pleiades. These were the young daughters of atlas. Atlas was forced to hold up the sky and therefore could not protect his daughters.

HIIIIII!!!!
i saw you say that you dont get a lot of requests so i decided to fix that instead of doing my own
can you do headcannons for iida, kirishima and hawks with a gf who listens to music to clean and ends up getting lost in her own world?? like, dances with the broom, belts songs at the top of her lungs even if she cant sing, and basically has a mini party to do small stuff like put dishes away SFDJSKFBDSJFK so literally just me
thank you SO much!!
Bestie this is ME. This is such a cute idea thank you for requesting.
I aged Iida and Kirishima up to pro heroes to make thins easier. There are no sexy times, lol, just adults who have their own living spaces and pay their own bills.
I also had reader singing specific songs, so y'all can judge my music choices apodfpdsof
Warnings: Swearing
Masterlist
. . .
Tenya Iida
Tumblr media
(Song: Bezos I, by Bo Burnham)
Iida is not by any means a passionate guy when it comes to music
He enjoys music, sure, but he enjoys it quietly
The most reaction you get out of him from listening to music is bobbing his head along or lip synching a little
So when he sees you going all out with your music, he falls in love with you a little bit more
The two of you live together. It's a Saturday, and Saturday means chores and errands
You agree to divide and conquer. Tenya goes grocery shopping, and you get started on some of the cleaning
You know how some people are absolute BEASTS and can carry like 8 grocery bags at once? 100% Tenya. It only takes him one trip to get them all in the house.
He opens the front door, and is immediately hit with the thumping bass of a very familiar song
He chuckles quietly, hearing you sing along.
Tenya quickly deposits the bags in the kitchen, before making his way through the small house to find you.
You're in the bathroom, wiping down the mirror hanging over the sink as you bounce up and down on your toes to the rythum
"Zuckerburg and Gates and Buffet, amateurs can fucking suck it, fuck their wives, drink their blood, come on Jeff, get 'em!"
You jumped up and down at the beat drop as Tenya watched, arms crossed and his lips pursed to contain his laughter. You look like you're having the time of you life.
As the song ends and the next one plays, you turn to throw away the paper towel you used to clean the mirror. That's when you spot Tenya
"Holy shit," you exclaim, jumping again, this time in surprise "Tenya, don't do that!"
"I'm sorry, I couldn't resist seeing your dance party." He laughs, kissing your forehead. "I see you've been having fun."
You groaned, face-planting into his chest. "And I see you enjoy embarrassing me."
"I don't mean to," Tenya promises, taking your hand and pressing a kiss onto it "You're just too adorable to comprehend, my love."
Eijiro Kirishima
Tumblr media
(Song: The Cult of Dionysus, by The Orion Experience)
Oh Kiri
If you get really into listening to music, you should see him
He's the exact same way
He's not a very good singer, but that doesn't stop him from belting out his favorite songs at the top of his lungs
Eijiro doesn't live with you yet but he does have a key to your apartment
He texted you that he was coming over, but you never responded. He's not worried though, since you have a track record of getting busy with something and forgetting to check your phone
When he lets himself in, he realized exactly why you never answered him
You've got music blaring from your phone, which is placed on a counter, and you're in the middle of your kitchen, broom in hand, getting into it
You swing the broom around, using it as a microphone
“I’m feeling devious, looking glamorous, let’s get mischievous, and polyamorous.”
Homie joins in with “Wine and women and wonderful vices, welcome to the Cult of Dionysus!”
You, being so caught up in your song, scream and drop the broom.
“Ah, sorry, babe!” Eijiro jumps, startled by your scream. “Didn’t mean to freak ya out.”
“Geez, you saw all that?” You ask, hand over your racing heart.
“I mean I only just got here,” he replies, giving you a lopsided grin. “You sounded great, by the way. I love that song.”
“I sound like a dying cat.”
“No way! I sound like a dying cat when I sing. You actually sounded good.”
“Ah, thanks.” You hesitate, your boyfriend’s sudden appearance finally dawning on you. “Wait a minute, what are you doing here?”
“I texted you that I was coming,” Ejiro shrugged, nodding to the device. “I think you had the music too loud to notice, though.”
“Oops,” You winced, turning your music off. “Sorry, Eiji. Let me finish up here, and we can do something. Hold the dustpan, will you?”
Eijiro helps you finish sweeping, then you both settle down to watch a movie.
“I wasn’t kidding before,” He says, pulling your close to him. “I really liked hearing you sing.”
“Play your cards right, and you can hear it again some time.”
Keigo Takami (Hawks)
Tumblr media
(ok but this GIF pretty much sums up his reaction aifoisdhfaoisd)
(Song: Lay all your Love on Me, by ABBA)
Hawks doesn’t listen to a lot of music
He’s constantly busy, and when he has free time he doesn’t really think to use it to browse Spotify
His only music reference is what you like. I bet he’s saved all your Spotify playlists
So when he swings by your apartment for a surprise visit on his day off, he immediately recognizes the song you have playing through your speakers
He sees you in your kitchen, putting away dishes and jamming out, so he does what any sane bird man who’s absolutely whipped for his girlfriend would do
He stands on your balcony and watches you with awestruck eyes
You pluck a glass from your dishwasher, using it as a microphone as you spin around, opening a cabinet to put it away
“Don’t go wasting your emotions, lay all your love on me. Don’t go sharing your devotion, lay all your love on me.”
Keigo hangs out for a few more verses, thinking that he’s never been more attracted to you.
He’s an overworked birb, ok? He doesn’t get to have mindless fun very often, so seeing you loose yourself in the song makes his simp heart go brrrrr
You’re so lost in the moment, you don’t notice he’s even there until the end of the song, when he starts to applaud
Ok so that GIF, right? That’s a slow clap. For you though, Keigo’s giving you vigorous applause
You jump, nearly dropping a plate. “Motherfucker, Kei! A little warning next time!”
He chuckles, sidling up next to you. “Sorry love dove, you just looked like you were having so much fun, it was unbelievably adorable.”
“Oh my god, this is so embarrassing,” you whined, covering your face with a hand.
“i’m sorry,” Keigo said again, moving your hand, a soft encouraging smile crossing his features. “I don’t mean to embarrass you. You just have this way of mesmerizing me.”
You melted into his touch as Keigo nuzzled into you, gently wrapping his arms around your waist
“You sounded beautiful,” He added, dusting feather light kisses across your face
“Thanks,” you muttered, brushing a hand through your boyfriend’s already tousled hair
“You still seem upset.”
“I’m not,” You insisted, pressing an assuring kiss to his jaw. “The embarrassment is still lingering, though.”
“Can I make it up to you?” Keigo asked, tracing a gentle line down your face.
“Depends. Could you be persuaded to sing for me?”
“Highly doubtful. Can buy you lunch instead?”
“You got yourself a deal, birdy.”

You adjusted your bangle, before taking a last look at yourself. The traditional salwar you chose for the day was growing on you. Your sister called you, struggling to tie the threads at the back of her dress. Taking them from her hand, you made a beautiful butterfly knot, moving to take a final glance at her. She bit her lip, raising her eyebrows.
“Kaisi lag rahi huun? (How do I look?)” she asked, moving a strand of her hair nervously as you smiled at her encouragingly.
“Bahut sundar, (Very beautiful)” you said softly, hugging her. She sighed. “Itni kya jaldi hai shaadi karne ki? Thoda ruk nahi sakte the? (Why did you have to rush to marry? Couldn't you wait for a bit?)”
She chuckled, pulling back, holding both your arms.
“I’m gonna miss you too, not more than my room though,” she laughed, lightening the mood. She always seemed to know how to do that.
“Now let’s go, we wouldn't want to keep everyone waiting. Especially that boyfriend of yours,” she said a knowing look on her face as you felt your cheeks warm. You protested.
“He’s not my boyfriend—”
“Not yet,” she said, cutting you off. Something about her smirk told you; you couldn’t argue with her. But then again, you didn’t want to.
The two of you moved out of your room, placing the hotel key safely in your bag. It was rather silent in the elevator, you knew your sister was anxious about the ceremony. Not that one could tell that as soon as you arrived at the hall. You gasped taking in the changed decorations. Colorful, studded umbrellas hung from the ceiling and small couches were placed along the edges of the room— mehendi artists sat there with people surrounding them with open palms. Everyone’s eyes landed on your sister as she beamed and greeted them gracefully. You wondered whether you could ever be as elegant as her.
You gazed across the room looking at your cousins, mausis, and other members of the extended family. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Seeing James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter at the back near the food stands; you made your way over to them. They looked charming in kurtas you had bought with them earlier. And what a shopping trip had it been.
“No but you have to get it, it’s what today is about—” James said to a tired-looking Remus.
“What is today about?” you asked, amused. They wheeled towards you, their faces lighting up.
“Tell Remus he must get henna,” James pleaded, and Remus swayed his head wildly.
“Well,” you started smugly. “It wouldn’t hurt.”
Remus groaned making Peter snort. You faced Sirius who was staring at you wordlessly. Ignoring the tickling in your stomach, you asked him, “Are you not getting one too?”
Sirius shook himself a little, before releasing a cough.
“Well, I was hoping you would apply some on me,” he said as you raised your eyebrows.
“Me?” you asked, incredulously.
“You are quite the artist and the tattoo would mean more with you making it,” he said. “If you want, of course.”
“I would like that,” you said after a beat.
“You’re looking stunning today by the way,” Sirius added. “You do everyday, but this dress…”
“And we’re invisible again,” James said before you reply. Remus let out a laugh patting him.
“Bet they wouldn’t have noticed if we slowly moved away,” Peter snickered.
Sirius shoved his shoulder casually as you picked up a drink to hide your expression.
“I think you should get your henna done now,” you said, seeing your sister sit down at the head of the room, the henna women sitting by her sides and taking her hands. “I got mine done in the morning. It would take time to dry.”
As James and Peter took Remus away unwillingly, you shifted towards Sirius.
“Come, I’ll find a cone to make some on you,” you told Sirius, taking him by his hand. Moving to one of the couches you asked for some spare henna. The boy nodded, giving you a fresh cone along with some cotton swabs and cleanser.
The two of you proceed to sit at a corner and you put a cushion over your leg for support.
“Where would you like me to draw?” you asked as he offered you his left palm dramatically, running the other hand through his hair— picture of a model. You giggled.
“And what exactly do you want it to look like?” you asked, placing your hand on your cheek.
“I didn’t think much about that,” he pondered. “I do like those vines on yours? Uh— make whatever you like.”
You hummed, thinking. Perchance you did know what exactly would suit him. Cleaning his hand with a cotton swab, you took a cone in your hand and started making little footprints from his thumb to his pinky finger. Sirius inhaled sharply when he realized what you were drawing.
“Tsk, stay put,” you said as Sirius sat up straighter. He looked on to what you created keenly. You caught him gazing at you instead more often than not, making it harder for you to concentrate.
“You never quite told us what this is about,” he said after some time. “I mean it’s pretty great, people getting temporary tattoos before a wedding. And from what I’ve learnt from staying here, everything has a meaning. Does it have a story too or?”
“It’s supposed to wish the bride prosperity and happiness,” you said, remembering what your mother told you when you asked her the same. “A saying goes that the darker someone’s henna becomes, the more loving their partner is.”
“Oh?” he asked curiously, looking at your hands. “If your henna becomes darker later— it would be because of some lover?”
You chuckled.
“Well, according to the saying yes,” you shook your head. “In reality, it depends on your skin and what kind of powder you use to make the mehendi. But it’s pretty to believe the saying, don’t you think?”
“If you have someone in mind, then yes,” he replied.
“Do you?”
Sirius eyed you intensely. Your heart beat faster awaiting his answer.
“I do,” he said. For a moment neither of you looked away from each other. The dholak began to play startling you both out of the trance. You peeked at him and then got on to make little paws to complete the design. Neither of you dared to speak again. The tension seemed almost unbearable.
“Tada!” you said on adding the finishing touches. Sirius observed the design, seemingly delighted with it.
“It’s so pretty,” he hushed. “The paws, the footprints... brilliant! I wish I could do the same for you...”
“You can actually” you said all of a sudden. Sirius furrowed his eyebrows as you explained further. “There is a small space left here you could make something on.”
“You would like that?”
“I would love it,” you gaped as Sirius shook his head. “You can do it, please Sirius, that way we both would have made each other a tattoo.”
“I’m not great at art,” he pointed out. “And what would I even make?”
“Make the Orion belt,” you said, ignoring the heat rising in your ears. “I saw those gorgeous astronomy projects you made and I would love something starry and tied to you too.”
Sirius blushed, abashed.
“If you want that,” he said. You handed him the used cone, having won, and laid out your palm to him.
Carefully marking up the stars he began to fill them in. You bit your lip watching Sirius work. His hair fell over his face, curls licking his skin. He was so caught up in work that he seemed to forget everything nearby.
“I know I’m handsome but I won’t be able to work with you looking at me like that,” he said, unmoving. You flushed, mummering you weren’t making Sirius smirk widen.
“Of course you weren’t.”
Sirius heaved a sigh sitting back, letting you regard the stars.
“It’s beautiful—”
You wanted to say more but your cousin Ruuhan came beside you, grabbing your arm to get your attention.
“Come dance, everyone is!” he said as you grinned. You looked at Sirius in silent question as he shook his head telling you to go on. Your mausis and other cousins were already dancing when you were pulled in. Laughing you moved along with them, dragging your sister to dance along with you.
You spent the night eating, dancing and having fun. The marauders joined you— you gave them your best puppy dog eyes when they said no. Amidst everything, you couldn’t remember the last time you had been this happy. It felt like a high. A happy high. One you never wanted to escape.
The next few days passed in a blur and it was almost too soon you were walking your sister through the grounds to marry the girl she loved. Wrapping an arm with hers you watched all the eyes on you two. Sirius stood along with the marauders, gasping a little when he saw you. You gave him a small nod, expecting him to wink back or give a teasing look, but it never came. He looked at you like he was seeing stars for the first time. Angling your attention towards your sister, you stepped forward. Handing over her hand to her fiancée, you watched your sister get up on the stage. Tears welled up in your eyes. Sirius came to stand beside you and took your hand in his. Squeezing it a little, you gave him a reassuring glance.
“You know; the past few days I’ve realized something,” Sirius said quietly as the ceremony moved on. You gestured for him to continue.
“Love should be celebrated, grandly because,” he said with a twinkle in his eye. “Because you shouldn’t be afraid to show off the one you adore to all around you. What I couldn’t understand however; what were we supposed to do if all others except the person knew about the affection you had for them?”
You sucked in a breath, waiting for him to continue. Sirius took your hand in his, running his fingertips along with the stars he drew.
“I love you,” he whispered so softly you almost missed it. Your heart leaped as he avoided your eyes. You cradled his face, making him look at you. His grey eyes shone angelically under the fairy lights.
“I love you too, Sirius,” you said, pulling him close. The two of you sat with an arm around the other, watching your sister take her vows for life.
