I need to ramble because I find the PLT rebrand as an “Old Money/Heritage brand to be almost a form of performance art (or satire). Because there’s no craftsmanship in cheap, mass-produced polyester rubbish that ends up in landfill after one wear,simply because the workers can’t have craftsmanship—they have to work at volume. So it becomes a paradox.

Also the irony is that the only thing ‘Old Money’ (UGH) about PLT is the business model that relies on the horrific exploitation of working-class people, both in the UK and in the Global South (which would have easily fit in with the worst old school colonialists).

And this is exactly why aesthetic-chasing is the death of style (Mina Le made a great point about being able to guess someone’s screen time by their outfit). You’re just buying a plastic dress and hoping it makes you look like you belong to a different social class. You’re not even buying it because you appreciate the craftsmanship, the pattern, or the design. You’re buying it because you want to look wealthier than you are. I can’t wrap my head around it. You’re literally wearing a poorly sewn bin bag, nobody is going to bow and call you my lord. Or do they wear them to the fake private jet photoshoots to shill a course?

It has to be satire at this point???

any duncney HCs for a high school au? like how would they meet, how did they have their first kiss, what/where was their first date, when/how did each of them realize they had feelings for the other, etc.

ooh okay.

so i think they met in a class together (probably a class that everyone has to take, bc everyone knows that duncan is too stupid to take most of the classes courtney takes) and courtney probably first pay attention to duncan when the teacher leaves the room for a moment during a test and he asks for answers. immediately, courtney's annoyed as hell and they end up having a whole argument in front of the whole class until the teacher comes back and they both end up getting detention, much to courtney's dismay. duncan ofc could not give less of a fuck. they spend all of detention bantering and pissing off the staff that's in charge of detention.

for their first date it was probably an accident. i think one of their teachers would assign them as partners together bc of that fucked attitude some teachers have that "oh maybe if i assign this menace student to work with my best student she'll fix him", and they have to work together after school in order to finish it. so one day after they finish working on the project and duncan's driving her back home from his house, he finds out that courtney hasn't eaten anything since lunch at school, and he takes her to some shoddy shake shack where they eat burgers and fries and milkshakes and banter and then before they pay the check duncan grabs courtney's hand and they dine and dash lol, and courtney's upset for a minute but then her fucked mind secretly thinks it's a sweet gesture. duncan surely thinks it is. i think this is also when they both realized they might have feelings for each other.

for their first kiss, i think it happens when courtney get a shitty grade (like a 78 lol) on a quiz and duncan finds her in the hallway freaking the fuck out and she starts rambling about how she's a disappointment and how her mom's going to kill her and duncan's like no you're not stop fucking lying and courtney's like you don't know shit and then they start arguing and then duncan's like if you don't stfu right now i’m going to do something really fucking stupid. and then courtney doesn't say anything and just looks up at him and so then he kisses her.

these were so fun to answer and even though i alr have a high school au about them where courtney tutors duncan, since these are in a different context i had so much fun coming up with these! thanks for asking anon <3
