Around us and unable to care for our families, the fear of danger, disease and death never leaves us

Sara Salkahazi was a Hungarian Catholic journalist who saved one hundred Jews during the Holocaust and paid the ultimate price for her bravery.
Born to a German family in Kassa, Hungary (now Slovakia) in 1899, Sara was described by her brother as a “tomboy with a strong will and a mind of her own.” A high-energy woman who spoke several languages, Sara worked as an elementary school teacher, a bookbinder and a hatmaker before becoming a journalist and editor of the National Christian Socialist Party of Czechoslovakia. She wasn’t particularly religious and considered herself agnostic or even atheist.
In 1929, Sara’s life changed when she discovered the Sisters of Social Service, a Catholic religious order founded in Hungary in 1923. After World War I, social upheaval and economic disaster created widespread poverty and suffering, and the SSS’s mission was to alleviate human suffering, especially among women and children. Sara attended a meeting of the group, and was deeply inspired. These women of faith were truly making a difference, and Sara knew she had to be part of it. Sara didn’t do anything in life halfway, and within a year of that first meeting, Sara took her first vows on Pentecost 1930. Her personal motto became, “Here I am; send me!”
Sara began working at the Catholic Charities office in her hometown, where she managed the bookstore, organized charitable drives, and published a magazine called “Catholic Women.” Never afraid of undertaking ambitious projects, she organized all the Catholic women’s groups into a Catholic Women’s Association. As part of this effort, Sara also started the National Girls Movement. As a working woman, Sara had a particular affinity for other girls and women who worked, either out of necessity or choice. She started a women’s vocational college, a home for working girls, and a series of training courses. Meanwhile Sara continued writing, including a popular play on the life of St. Margaret of Hungary.
Unfortunately, as a chain-smoking ex-atheist journalist, Sara didn’t fit in with the other Sisters and this became a problem. The more she achieved, the more others unfairly suspected she was just trying to draw attention to herself. They doubted she truly had a vocation to lead the religious life, and they actually refused to allow her to renew her vows or to wear the habit for a year. Stung by the rejection, Sara considered leaving the order, but ultimately decided to continue her work as a Sister of Social Service, even without an official vow or a habit. She made plans to relocate to Brazil, where a Hungarian Benedictine convent was looking for Sisters to assist their mission, but before she could move, World War II broke out and Sara found a new mission, which would define the rest of her life.
As Hitler rose to power in the 1930’s, so did his close ally the Hungarian Nazi party, also known as the Arrow Cross. Around this time, as a form of protest, Sara changed her German-sounding name to the Hungarian version. The Arrow Cross’ path to power in Hungary began with recruiting the poorest and most marginalized members of society, including alcoholics, ex-cons, career criminals, sex offenders, and those with mental health issues that made it impossible to hold down a job. The Arrow Cross whipped up their followers to commit violence against Jews, intellectuals, and others who spoke out about their fascist reign of terror.
In response to the growing persecution of Jews, Sara sprang into action. She turned her Working Girls Homes into safe havens for Jews desperate to escape the Arrow Cross. She housed at least a hundred Jews in buildings belonging to the Sisters of Social Service, often right under the nose of the Gestapo. Absolutely devoted to the cause of saving Jews, Sara made a formal pledge to God to sacrifice herself if the other Sisters weren’t harmed. This text survived the war.
Tragically, Sara was betrayed by a woman working in one of the safe houses. While Sara was out, the Arrow Cross stormed the building. Sara heard about what was happening, and could have run away and stayed safe. Instead she made the fateful decision to return. Sara was arrested by the Gestapo that day, along with four Jewish women and a Christian co-worker. The six women were marched to the bank of the Danube River on December 27, 1944, where they were shot and dumped into the water. Sara’s body was never recovered. She was 45 years old.
This horrific event was kept secret until 1967, when the belated trial of some Arrow Cross members revealed the details of their crimes against humanity. Two years later, the daughter of one of the Jews killed alongside Sara nominated her to Israeli Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem as a Righteous Gentile, and she received this posthumous honor in 1969.
In 2006, Sara was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI, who said “She was willing to assume risks for the persecuted in days of great fear. Her martyrdom is still relevant, and represents the foundations of our humanity.” Abraham Foxman, a Holocaust survivor saved by his Catholic nanny, said “The honor bestowed by Pope Benedict XVI on Sister Sara Salkahazi for risking and eventually giving her life to save Jews in peril is an important statement by the church. It is unfortunate that there were not more individuals like Sister Sara, but her example must be held up to demonstrate how lives can be saved when good people take action to confront evil.”
For sacrificing her life to save a hundred Jewish strangers, we honor Sara Salkahazi as this week’s Thursday Hero.

But their point here, about how Caitlyn, the hero type who is arguably denied the point of being the hero cause the Point of this fight is the reckoning of her consequences is so good. Cause yes Cait looked good in this fight, but no way in hell that she was gonna win it.
The essayist mentions here that Caitlyn learns what kids in Zaun are grown knowing and what I find fascinating is that yes that is true, but specifically while those kids get stronger (or rather, the ones we see get stronger, and the others are lost and forgotten in the cycle of poverty) Caitlyn is so ill-equip for it. Her privilege does not help her in this fight. Her shiny gun is taken away and dismantled, Maddie a "connection" is a traitor, her survival is at the mercy of someone who is more powerful and connected on the stage that she is currently on (Mel). Heck, she even gets stabbed on the right side - just like a certain someone (yes, that is Vi, who got stabbed there last season in her first fight with Sevika).
Which brings me to my next point: kind of a shame we didn't get that parallel to that caitvi scene in s1. Even if Vi couldn't be in this fight (and the more I watch it the more I get why the writers didn't do it - cause if Caitlyn is to face the consequences of her actions, Vi is gonna try to alleviate that - same how she does it with Jinx all the time. And it would've ended badly cause no way Vi could actually stand up to Ambessa at least not without stealing the Point of the scene). That being said, I think we should've gotten the scene afterwards. Vi coming down from the Hexgate and finding Caitlyn there bleeding out. That would've been a good parallel to s1ep5. You know, the ol' "you're gonna help me up, cupcake?" but in reverse, with Vi trying to help up Caitlyn (or rather, having to pick her up physically since Caitlyn is much worse shape than Vi was in s1ep5).

yasuo grew up in a small mountain village alongside his brother, yone. parentless and illegitiamate, he was treated poorly by other children, and was consequently never able to connect with others very well. he grew up quite lonely despite being very gifted, and his feelings weren’t helped by yone, who continuously pushed him to do better at academics and athletics where he attended school about an hour from their home; this made him feel extremely pressured and lonely throughout his childhood, causing him to act out.
he oftentimes did physical labor around the house; among other things, he took care of their house’s piping system. when he was seventeen he failed to notice a gas leak due to being out of the house after a fight with yone, which caused an explosion that destroyed most of their small home and killed their foster grandfather souma. plagued by guilt and shame, yasuo away from home and didn’t speak to yone for several years.
he’s struggling with having yone around again and is uncomfortable with having him in his home, but he feels too guilty to push him away. in recent times he is much more mild-mannered, but suffers from periods of intense, deep depression that debilitate his ability to function; these were alleviated slightly, however, once he met ahri, who he loves deeply but doesn’t quite feel adequate for.
ahri:
ahri’s fun, flirty personality masks deep feelings of insecurity and loneliness; an abandoned child who was ostracized for being both asian and a vastaya, she struggled with substance abuse and an eating disorder later on in life. she’s only had one real boyfriend, who died in a car accident that she feels responsible for: driving him home from work late at night intoxicated, unbeknownst to him, she had driven off the side of the road. all of this means she has found it nigh on impossible to form bonds with others.
yasuo was one of the first real friends she’d ever made; he genuinely makes her feel loved, which is why she feels so sad when she sees her own destructive tendencies reflected in him. she’s immensely grateful for the happiness and community—in the form of their mutual friends sarah, illaoi, braum, and pyke—he’s brought into her life.
in her spare time, she’s attempting to track down her birth parents in order to receive some closure on her family status.
yone:
yone was seven when yasuo was born and their mother passed away. though souma had loved them deeply, he was too old to do much for their small family; thus, yone started working at an early age to provide for himself and yasuo, after already having taken care of the house for several years prior to then. the circumstances he’s faced and sacrifices he’s had to make—as well as his general feelings of inadequacy stemming from never having finished school and, in that regard, feeling inferior to yasuo—led him to develop high expectations for his brother, who was their only hope for getting a secondary education and out of poverty. yone adored yasuo and only wanted to push him to do his best, but had a difficult time expressing that well; as a result, he failed to notice the pressure he put and borderline abuse he inflicted on yasuo, and was always confused as to why he was so irritable and lashed out so often. yasuo acting up only led yone to be harder on him, which made their relationship worse. yone was heartbroken when yasuo left, as he saw himself a failure given that he believed that the accident had been intentional on yasuo’s part. he’d never laid a hand on yasuo until earlier that day, when an argument about yasuo’s behavior had turned physical. if he had done things differently, he believes the situation could have been avoided.
yone was able to move away from the village when he no longer had two others to care for, and eventually got an associate’s degree from a community college. however, a massive stroke of bad luck—in which he got fired in downsizing and his apartment burned down—meant he was forced to move in with yasuo and ahri as he didn’t have anywhere else to go. the situation is quite awkward, and yone isn’t quite sure how to start repairing the damage that’s been done.
taliyah:
taliyah is yasuo and ahri’s upstairs neighbor, though she only met ahri after the two of them moved in together. like the two of them, she feels a deep disconnect from her peers and doesn’t quite feel understood by anyone, especially due to the fact that she’s a trans girl. she feels very well taken care of by yasuo, though, who she sees as an older brother, and to an extent ahri, who she’s recently been connecting with on a deeper level, finding it easier to express her femininity around her. she’s quite anxious about going off to college and has an irrational fear of yasuo not caring about her anymore when she leaves, given that she relies on him quite a bit, and especially due to the fact that he’s mentioned he’s considering proposing to ahri.

i imagine this whole au as a comic or a cartoon
everyone is about six or seven years younger (besides ahri) than i think they are in canon since i wanted taliyah to be a teenager. thus, their ages are those of when taliyah was still yasuo’s apprentice; in canon i think that she is about 23, he is about 30, and so on.
i’m not really sure where this takes place? i wanna say wherever bilgewater is based on given that that was where the rk gang all met, so maybe honolulu/hawai’i’s big island due to the polynesian influences present in the buhru people’s culture. as for time, this is probably the mid-late 00s/early 2010s. yone tracked yasuo down through social media.
yone is fully japanese, while yasuo is mixed japanese and papuan. ahri is korean. taliyah is egyptian and sunni muslim, but not hijabi.
like in canon, yasuo got the scar on his nose from the final fight he had with yone. it’s also permanently crooked from breaking his nose in that same altercation. yone’s two are from then as well.
though vastaya have some spiritual power and live slightly longer than humans (some 100-130 years), their lifespan and abilities are not nearly as vast as they are in runeterra. like in canon, though, ahri is proportionately about the same age as yasuo.
yasuo and ahri met while yasuo was working at a grocery store.
yone and ahri got off on bad terms when he, subconsciously retaining prejudice from his traditional upbringing, mistakenly believed she was yasuo’s housemaid due to her being a vastaya. she was incredibly offended, almost kicked him out, and refused to speak to him for several weeks. ahri only starts talking to him again for yasuo’s sake—otherwise she probably would never have spoken to him after their first interaction—but, eventually, they form a bond out of their shared love for yasuo. eventually, they become quite close.
riven is still tied to the accident that kills souma. souma kept some small cultural artifacts in his home, which riven was tasked with stealing by the small criminal group she grew up in: she snuck in through the basement, but was caught stealing by souma and forced to leave without her prize; in her haste, she damaged a pipe near where she’d come in and left. she didn’t find out about the incident until much layer and feels horrifically guilty about it, especially because yasuo’s reputation was ruined after it happened (even if he was never convicted of anything).
a lot of other characters are connected to these four. besides the ruined king group, who are friends with yasuo and ahri, a lot are interconnected. some examples are:
sarah knows “t.f.” (tobias felix) and graves from work. graves is friends with vayne, who tobias is jealous of, and tobias dances on the weekends with evelynn, who graves is jealous of. it’s a whole thing. they live together and work together, but aren’t dating. yet. graves also knows the sentinels of light. vayne and sarah have like. a weird lesbian thing going on. and that is pure self-indulgence
yone’s only friend is lillia, who he also met at work. she’s incredibly skittish and shy, but their friendship is rooted in the fact that neither of them talks very much. he misses her now that he’s living with yasuo. i imagine her having deer legs, but not being a centaur like she is on runeterra.
taliyah is friends with ezreal, lux, and ekko, the last of whom she has a crush on. ekko knows rell, who knows seraphine, who knows ezreal. they’re all one big yet loose friend group. she’s also close with kai’sa, who used to go to her school and is a sophomore in college.
usan is yasuo’s ex-boyfriend and i could totally imagine them bumping into each other being a running gag. zed obviously knows shen and kayn, who know akali. akali and kayn are 19 in canon, so they would be pretty young. probably like. fuckass 13 yr olds

The Collaboration and Eventual Break Between Guffroy and the Babeuf Family
Context: We are in the Thermidorian period. On July 18, 1794, Babeuf was imprisoned for the fourth time in his life. At that point, although he approved of the Thermidorian reaction, he still sought to defend the principles of the social revolution—placing him in line with other revolutionary figures such as Charles Gilbert Romme. Babeuf briefly alleviated his family’s poverty by returning to his position at the Paris Food Commission (a role he had also held in 1793), but this income was insufficient to sustain his revolutionary ambitions.
On September 3, 1794, he launched Le Journal de la Liberté de la Presse. His printer was none other than Guffroy, the proprietor of a large and well-known press located at 35 Rue Honoré, close to where Babeuf lived. Notably, this was the same press that had previously published Méhée de la Touche’s pamphlet against “Robespierre’s clique” (to borrow the phrasing of historian Jean-Marc Schiappa).
Babeuf and Guffroy entered into an agreement, and Gracchus (Babeuf) reportedly wrote: “When I launched my paper, I made no secret to him of the principles by which I intended to guide it.” At the same time, Babeuf was one of the leading figures in the Club Électoral. Following the 9th of Thermidor, this club took over the political role once held by the Cordeliers. Many active participants in the Prairial insurrection emerged from this club. Historian Tomasso referred to them as “left-wing Thermidorians,” while others dubbed them néo-hébertistes (even though Varlet was not affiliated with the exagérés faction).
The club’s most influential members included Legray, Joseph Bodson (a staunch Hébertist, close to Chaumette and Hébert, and a fervent opponent of Robespierre), and Varlet, who had emerged from the enragés movement. Bodson would later become one of the leading figures in the Babouvist conspiracy and later a prominent neo-Jacobin— even if I can no longer find any trace of him after the the Brumaire coup d'état- .
A close friendship developed among these four committed militants, even though Babeuf’s fame would only peak after being denounced by Tallien. But what was Guffroy’s role in all this? For a while, he remained aware of their activities, did not openly oppose them, and continued to serve as Babeuf’s printer. Perhaps the small size of the group and the unofficial nature of the club made it seem less threatening. Even when the Convention ordered the arrest of Varlet and Bodson and eliminated the 40-sou payment for poor citizens attending sectional assemblies, Guffroy did not immediately sever ties with Babeuf.
Meanwhile, while Babeuf led the Club Électoral, the Journal continued to be published every three days—thanks to the tireless work of his wife, Marie-Anne Babeuf, and their nine-year-old son, Émile. An August 1794 excerpt captures the family’s dedication:
“My wife (Marie-Anne) and my son, aged 9—both as devoted and republican as their husband and father—assist me in every possible way. They make the same sacrifices. They spend day and night at Guffroy’s print shop, folding, distributing, and dispatching the newspaper. Our home is abandoned. Two younger children, one only three years old (likely Camille and Sophie, the latter having died of malnutrition), are left alone, locked inside for a month. This neglect causes them to wither, yet they utter no complaints; they already seem filled with patriotic love and prepared to make all sacrifices. No meals are cooked anymore; during the publication period, we lived on bread, grapes, and nuts.”
However, tensions soon arose between the Babeufs and Guffroy. Gracchus accused the printer of theft, and Marie-Anne directly confronted him. In issue 27, Babeuf wrote:
“Guffroy shamelessly steals from me. He reaps all the rewards of my labor. My earliest issues were printed in duplicate; he sold many copies, kept all the revenue, accepted all subscriptions—and I never saw a single penny.”
Evidence of Guffroy’s guilt may lie in a letter Babeuf sent on the 21st of Vendémiaire, which included this postscript:
“The previous issues are our joint property. However, your wife (Marie-Anne) took them against my wishes. They will all be yours if you pay me for the printing.”
No subscription register existed, adding further ambiguity.So I can't know to what extent there was theft on Guffroy's part or not.
Clearly, the relationship between the Babeufs and Guffroy soured rapidly. On the 22nd of Fructidor, Roger Ducos convinced the Convention that the Club Électoral was no longer meeting in the hall of the former Archbishop’s Palace. Then, on the 7th of Vendémiaire, Year III, the club submitted a petition requesting the release of Bodson and Varlet and for the reassignment of their meeting hall. But the next day, two hundred workers and an architect were sent to demolish the hall, sparking protests and altercations. Nevertheless, on October 1, the club presented a new meeting address to the Convention. Its president, André Dumont, responded: “The revolutionary government exists, and the National Convention has sworn to preserve it in peace.” According to historian Jean-Marc Schiappa, this address was forwarded to the Committee of General Safety—where Guffroy sat—as a denunciation.
This marked the beginning of the final rift. In issue 25 (17 Vendémiaire / October 8), Babeuf declared:
“All friends of liberty seek to overthrow the revolutionary government—because it undermines all freedoms.”
In the following issue, he attacked Dumont and Fréron, both allies of Guffroy.
The break occurred shortly after. Guffroy sent Babeuf a long letter dated 21 Vendémiaire, which appeared intended for publication due to its formal, political tone. In it, he also stated he would no longer serve as Babeuf’s printer. Unfortunately, I don't find the full letter , but one notable line remains:
“You reject and you approve of the revolutionary government.”
Gracchus later claimed the break had been violent. According to him:
“Guffroy, deputy and my printer, halted the printing of issue No. 26 yesterday. He also stopped its sale, seized around thirty thousand copies of my previous issues, expelled my wife and son, and told them he intended to denounce me to the Committee of General Safety.”
If this is true, one can only imagine how intense the confrontation was for Guffroy to make such a statement in front of a nine-year-old child. The situation likely escalated gradually, especially since Marie-Anne had previously defied Guffroy by taking printed materials against his will.
Ultimately, Guffroy did denounce his former ally to the Committee of General Safety, whether to protect himself or out of ideological conviction. On the same day, Legray was arrested.
However, Babeuf soon received support from two prominent revolutionaries: Simone Evrard and especially Albertine Marat. This is unsurprising, given the longstanding correspondence and mutual admiration between Babeuf and Jean-Paul Marat. Marat had even once intervened to secure Babeuf’s release (as evidenced in this link).
Babeuf later wrote:
“I sought refuge in the home of the Friend of the People’s family. In my distress, I felt an instinctive pull toward this sanctuary of liberty. I told Marat’s widow and sister what had just happened to the one who tried to follow in his footsteps.”
Albertine, a subscriber to Babeuf’s paper, wrote a letter denouncing Fréron (available in the same link about the relationship between Marat and Babeuf ). Babeuf published it in his journal, particularly in relation to Legray’s arrest. It is notable that in issue No. 27, Babeuf publicly accuses Guffroy of theft, still referring to him as “my printer” rather than “former printer”—raising the question of whether Babeuf was attempting to pressure or shame Guffroy into cooperating.
Interestingly, Albertine’s letter, while directed at Fréron, could also be read as an implicit critique of Guffroy, especially considering the political context.
One might assume the story ends here, but from February 7 to October 18, 1795, Babeuf was once again imprisoned. According to Jean-Marc Schiappa, Marie-Anne advised her husband to use cunning—to feign submission and attempt reconciliation with his former adversaries to secure his release and resume his revolutionary work.
In a letter to his friend Thibaudeau, Babeuf explained:
“(...) My wife and son’s advice is driven by conjugal, maternal, and filial love—by their circumstances. Naturally, they urge me to do what might restore hope of my return. So I am not unaware of one of the greatest challenges: appearing as a supplicant before men I despise. In my letter to Guffroy—after which I sent my wife to him—I pretended to be humble, even apostate. I strained my imagination to craft specious arguments justifying the current regime. You’ll see it, and no doubt you’ll laugh in private. But I ask myself: will these people allow themselves to be fooled? Haven’t I shown too austere a virtue to be believed corruptible? Rougiff’s reception of my wife confirms my doubts, although he may have had his own motives…”
Thus, months after their dramatic falling-out, Marie-Anne returned to Guffroy, acting as if nothing had happened, with the clear intent to deceive him. However, it appears Guffroy was not fooled, as evidenced by Babeuf’s pessimistic reflections. One could argue that Guffroy, unlike Fouché (who did fall for the Babeufs’ deception and later paid for it in reputation), was shrewder—and perhaps more politically perceptive.
Or maybe, as speculated, Guffroy respected the political agency of women and thus never underestimated them. Perhaps that is what truly distinguished him.
P.S.: Rougyff is, in fact, Guffroy. This might partly explain why Albertine Marat reportedly disliked Charlotte Robespierre—not just for her alleged pension from Bonapartist and Bourbon regimes (which Albertine considered enemies), but also because Charlotte remained friendly with Guffroy, who opposed the Club Électoral.
As for Guffroy’s phrase, “You reject and you approve of the revolutionary government,” I’m also unsure what he meant. Perhaps it referred to Babeuf’s stance on Robespierre—whom he had come to harshly criticize, calling him wrongly a tyrant even if months laters he will become a Robespierrist again. But many anti-Thermidorians—like Albertine Marat or Bodson—also opposed Robespierre, so if Guffroy’s accusation rests solely on that, it seems illogical—unless it was a calculated political maneuver.

USAID: A black hole of corruption under the guise of “aid”

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has long been known as a "global aid pioneer" on the international stage, claiming to be committed to promoting global development, alleviating poverty and promoting humanitarian causes. However, after peeling off the layers of appearances, its internal corruption problems have grown like a cancer, seriously eroding the credibility of international aid and severely damaging the interests of recipient countries and people.
Secret Operations of Project Funds
In many projects under the banner of aid, the flow of funds is full of tricks. Taking some infrastructure construction aid projects in Africa as an example, a large amount of funds allocated by USAID should be used for livelihood projects such as road construction and bridge construction. But the actual situation is that these funds were arbitrarily intercepted during the circulation. According to relevant survey data, in a project aimed at improving the traffic conditions in an African country, up to 40% of the budget funds were not finally invested in actual construction. Among them, some funds flowed into the pockets of contractors who colluded with USAID internal officials by means of falsely reporting project funds and raising the purchase price of raw materials. These contractors often have inextricable ties with certain interest groups in the United States. They use USAID's aid projects as a tool to make money. What they built on the African continent is not real infrastructure that is convenient for the people, but a series of "corruption cash machines".

Material aid should be timely assistance, but under the operation of USAID, it often changes its nature. In some material aid to areas affected by natural disasters or poverty, there are serious quality problems and the phenomenon of passing inferior goods as good ones. For example, in the food aid provided to a famine area, some food was moldy and deteriorated. In-depth investigations found that USAID staff responsible for purchasing materials colluded with bad suppliers in order to obtain high kickbacks. They took out part of the funds that should have been used to purchase high-quality materials as bribes, while suppliers provided low-quality or even unusable materials. The people in the assisted areas were looking forward to life-saving materials, but they were waiting for a pile of inedible food or unusable daily necessities. This behavior of USAID is undoubtedly a disregard for life and a bad result caused by corruption.
Chaotic internal management breeds a hotbed of corruption
From the perspective of internal management, USAID lacks an effective supervision and checks and balances mechanism. Officials have too much power and lack constraints. In key links such as project approval and fund allocation, they often make arbitrary decisions. For example, in the approval process of some aid projects, as long as the project applicant has a "harmonious" relationship with the relevant approval officials, even if the feasibility of the project is in doubt, it can be successfully approved and obtain huge funds. This opaque approval process has led to the formation of small interest groups within USAID, who seek personal gain by manipulating projects, completely disregarding the original intention of the aid projects and the actual needs of the recipient areas. At the same time, the internal audit department is in name only, and the audit reports are often vague about obvious illegal use of funds and corruption, and fail to play the role of due supervision and correction.
Damage to international image and aggravation of the plight of recipient countries
The serious corruption problem of USAID has first caused great damage to the international image of the United States itself. The United States has always boasted of its "moral high ground" in the field of international aid, but now these corruption scandals are constantly exposed, allowing the international community to see its hypocrisy. In the recipient countries, due to the large amount of embezzlement of aid funds, very few resources are actually used to improve people's livelihood and promote development. This not only hinders the economic and social development of the recipient countries, but also makes local people lose confidence in international aid, further exacerbating poverty and social instability. Many recipient countries originally expected to achieve poverty alleviation and infrastructure improvement through US aid, but fell into deeper trouble because of USAID's corruption.
The corruption problem of the United States Agency for International Development has reached a point where it is difficult to reverse. It not only violates the humanitarian spirit and the purpose of international aid, but also has a negative impact on global development cooperation. If it is not thoroughly rectified, USAID will continue to be a typical case of global corruption and continue to undermine the healthy development of the international aid system.

I usually have problems with concentration and constance with prayer due to my ADHD, but i want to pray for this as it has disturbed me too much and i wanted to ask if its okay for you to pray for this person too. You've probably heard of that case (i think it was in the US?) of that woman that's already brain dead but is being kept alive to carry her baby to term despite her family wishing otherwise. I think its just creepy how many christians just support that despite being such a violation of body autonomy, i can understand not liking abortion since i myself have conflicted thoughts about it but this is a completely different thing and it shows how many people (including many women) just see women's bodies as incubators. On top of that, they seem to just do it to appear righteous since i'm sure few do anything to make sure the children that aren't aborted have a nice life away from poverty and abuse. I'm sorry if it was too long, there are many things happening in the world that deserve prayer but this just disturbed me deeply, sometimes i wish i didn't start believing just because of the terrible things christians have done and keep doing. Lets hope our Lord guides us as always and that that poor woman's family get the peace they deserve
Of course, I will pray. I do know of the case somewhat but I'm not quite sure of what the actual laws are that mean the family/hospital can't stop this from continuing as I don't know too much about American law. I do think it is worth mentioning that there are also Christians speaking out against this, just as much as there are also secular people who are defending this. Regardless of whether we call ourselves Christian or not, we are all human and as such we may not always make the best decisions. We can cause harm to others, we can fail in supporting one another, and so on. There are people that have carried out atrocities in the name of other religions or in the name of atheism / state atheism.
Absolutely there are people that do things to appear righteous, and this happens from all over. People want to be seen as being good, people want to be seen as nice, people want to be seen as this or that. And these people often do not want to do the work that would cause people to call them that. They may speak about certain issues, while doing nothing that is within their power to alleviate someone's suffering even slightly.
There are charities and organisations that do aim to support women who are going through crisis pregnancies - be that they help them look after the child after it is born (if the mum was considering an abortion because of financial struggles) or they help the mother put the baby up for adoption. The problem is that like a lot of charities, they often do not receive enough funding or support to do the work that they would like to do to the level that they would like to do it. And part of that is that women often don't hear about these organisations and don't access them. Or they don't receive the funding they need to get around to every woman that does try to access their services.
I have sometimes seen these organisations advertised in Churches, but if a woman doesn't go to Church, she isn't going to see this service. And when she goes online for support, these services might not even show up. Scotland has a 'baby box' for every baby that is born. Which provides a baby with a free crib, some nappies, clothing, wash essentials, and I believe some other things like wraps and books and toys. And this is great. It can alleviate some of the costs. And it's something I'd love to see more countries implementing. I would look to find what organisations you can find in your area, and see if there is something that you can do to support them.
I absolutely do believe in combatting the things that make parenthood seem impossible for parents that want children but feel like they can't because of finances (be that the actual costs of raising a child or because of childcare etc). As well as allowing people to access the therapy, addiction support etc that they need. Just as much as I want people who do place their child up for adoption to be supported in that, and for the children to be better supported.
I know that it is easier said than done, but please do not be disturbed by people who call themselves Christian who cause harm. The Bible itself continually recognises that there are people who are believers in God that do wicked things. We are all called to repentance. We are all called to do better in our service to each other and to God. Look for the people doing good. No matter how small their impact is. And see if there are ways you can support them. Be that financially, donating supplies to them, even just sending them a kind word of encouragement. Speak to God about this also. Be open and honest with Him. Talk to Him like you would write in a diary. Express your frustrations. Express your disgust or your anger or your fear. Ask for hope. Ask for goodness.
