I was planning to update my game today, but idek whether I should anymore.

(TL;DR: We should use wearing a yellow wristband/lanyard or having a yellow emoji in your display name/bio as a symbol of "I don't want to participate in this holiday." Please share if you agree, because this would be a very useful tool for many people!)

As we're coming up on April Fool's, I've just realized that I don't think I've ever seen any sort of agreed upon symbol of "I don't want to be pranked"???

Which. Is really surprising to me, actually????

I tried to look it up, but all I found was "How to survive April Fool's without getting pranked!!" which basically just boils down to "isolate yourself/be paranoid for a day" which in and of itself is kind of participating in the holiday.

There's still a level of enjoyment to be had in overpreparing to avoid any and all pranks for a lot of people who don't actually have issues with it.

But there's a lot of people who do genuinely have issues of it and would like to be able to go about their day normally without worrying about it, including myself.

(Now, I would like to clarify that I'm not trying to demonize ppl who do want to participate or whatever. I just wish there was an easy way to communicate to them that I don't want to participate.)

So... I would like to propose wearing a yellow wristband or lanyard to say "I do not want to participate in this holiday".

That way, it also applies to other similar holidays that involve doing something to someone!

April Fool's Day: Please don't prank me

St. Patrick's Day: Please don't pinch me

Valentine's Day: Please don't confess to me/give me valentines

Christmas: Please don't give me gifts

I feel like I've seen people talk about being scared of some of these holidays for different reasons, but I haven't really seen any actual solutions for it besides "tell people around you" (which doesn't work for events where it could be anyone) and "be paranoid about it" which is just. Not an actual solution.

Plus, it would also work online! You could put a yellow emoji (such as 💛, 🟡, or 🟨) in your display name or bio. It could also be used as a symbol when expressing your boundaries for certain holidays, like so:

🟨April Fool's🟨: Please don't send me gore or jumpscares, but harmless April Fool's videos or memes are fine

(Though, not sending gore to people PERIOD is also just common fucking sense, but I digress)

Please share this around if you would like to help make this a known symbol of "I don't want to participate in this holiday!" It would be very appreciated and very useful and I'm still really shocked that I haven't seen anybody do this yet.

Got in my car after work to find my windshield somewhat... obscured.

Not a surprise given that I had snow on my roof and parked in the sun. It melted partially and then refroze as it had less heat to work with or whatever. Winter things. I live in a state that does this shit frequently and have done so for about fifteen years.

Hey kids! It’s time for another tip on making your blogs accessible (ie useable) for disabled individuals!

Let’s talk about color contrast. Did you know that you can actually make your blog inaccessible for some vision impaired user by using the wrong combination of colors on your page?

Best practice is to use text, background, and accent colors that contrast against each other enough to be easily visible to everyone. If you have to squint to see your bio, chances are that there’s someone out there who can’t read it at all.

here’s a neat tool that you can use to check if you’re blog’s color scheme is fully accessible.

to talk about AI in art more specifically, I think in so far as AI has any legitimate use in art, it's exclusively as an artistic aid. if you generate an AI image of a character, then draw on top of it using it as a loose reference (I'm not talking about tracing here), that's not really any different than using any other photo reference or inspiration. if you feed all of a character's dialogue to an AI, then have it crosscheck versus dialogue you wrote for them and make adjustments to your writing (I'm not talking about copying and pasting here), that's not really any different than having someone beta-read for voice or doing it manually yourself. it can be an effective tool for doing very specific and technical things faster and thus developing a better personal artistic intuition for them. it's acceptable as training wheels, like spellcheck but much more sophisticated

what is broadly unacceptable is to just let AI generate something and release it into the wild as-is or edited. AI making your life easier or giving you more confidence in making your art is fine. using AI to substitute for and try and shortcut the artistic process is not

I think I'm in the second month now of not using a pencil undersketch for any of my drawings, just doing straight pen. This has resulted in an increase in "bad" (imo) drawings, but a dramatic decrease in wrist pain now that I'm not eraesing so much, and also has REALLY revealed the necessity of warm-ups!!! Which wasn't as noticable when I fell back on starting in pencil. Very necessary for animation stuffs imo

Anyway this post is an explanation why my drawing quality has dropped lately 😂 especially on the comics lol
