I lit myself on fire
I lit myself on fire to keep the thought of us alive
I turned on everything I knew
I didn’t see through your guise
Blinded by synthetic love
Masquerading parasitic use
The constant accusations and fights bordering abuse
I gave you every ounce of myself and my time
Told you my weaknesses and you left without rhyme
You left me here for dead
A symphony I was writing now left on read

Your life awaits. Warm and soul intact. Sweet and tempting.
Then, those who made you, Take from you, Drain you of everything You are.
Now cold and hollow. Bitter and repulsive. Yet, you still stand. You can be fulfilled again.

This is for the prompt “From the perspective of a coffee cup”. I immediately thought about what a life of a cup of coffee would be like. So the final product is less “Coffee witnessing life” and more “Coffee perceiving its own life”.

Bad Thoughts
Is it bad
How bad I want
You, out of my head
And in bed with sheets
Tied to knots, tongues
Loose shoes under
Creaky slats and clothes
Strewn--makeshift mini rugs
For the floor left cold
After heated exchanges there
Tantalizingly teasing play before
Moving to a spot with more give
As we give and take and make
The most of an intense attraction
A connection in all its steamy
Glory action; you're satisfyingly good
And it feels oh so good
So who gives a damn
About bad? If it is
Then oh well
Too bad

I'm soaring through the mountains
Flying above the grass
And flowers
And hills
On tiny wings
Carried by the breeze
I'm soaring through the mountains

Waiting
Killing time,
like it’s the enemy;
a battle to be fought,
and won.
Waiting for the answer,
an impulse,
a sign,
a message from above.
Expecting a resolution,
a meaningful moment,
a feeling
that isn’t numb.
But what do we have
when all emotions
are fleeting,
come and gone?

Books
A lash of quills which fly no more,
A well of colors from faded hides.
Bound in sheets of fallen oaks,
And dreamed by authors lost to time...
.
Knowledge, stories, gods and men,
Searched by eyes and forgotten.
A carcass carved by brilliant souls,
For carcasses who've yet to fall.

An evening walk with you
The darkness closing in
Lit by twinkling lights
From countless other suns
And the soft, silver reflection of our own
Walking new paths each year
Telling stories of our past
And our future together
The tale of our love written in the stars

Something broke deep inside
It cracked my gaze broke my eyes
I wander now a crooked road
With crooked teeth and a crooked load
I am burden in physical form
Unloving and unloved
I am useless I am fruitless
I have no god above
Abandoned fate a psychotic gate
Psychotic grin psychotic mind
Lost and found found and lost
Am I losing my mind?

i lie here in the green fields turning
looking up at the moon like milk left out
( an empty glass left home )
the wheat has been separated from the chaff
the hay bales have been rolling along now
they dance to a slow song
the one all the sad teens sing along to
the combine rusting in the rain
the door to the barn has been left ajar
( an empty glass left home )
& i am still lying here
yearning for october.

Rejoin
Some things shatter And some things break Glued back together But never the same
Problematic, steady Entropy fills the void But the gravity pulls And begins to rejoin

Keeping an eye on the sky
Even though down so low
Discarded in a dirt heap
Relegated to the refuse pile
While squinting just so can fantasize
Fill pockets of time with something
Grander than this, glorying in
Some distant untouchable dream
Pretend heartbreak and hurt don't exist
For flash-fire seconds they are nothing
And you and I are dropping the world
Soaring higher than we dared try before
Then eyes snap open to attention
Pulled back to this life, all that's right
Feels as if in another lifetime
Like it could never have fit in mine
And it takes tasting the salt
Of a tear to realize
I cry

trapped in the cycle // counting numbers
i'm learning to let you go,
but still my thoughts stray away
and i'm left counting numbers,
dates by month and day,
because how was i to know
that the difference between june and july
would be the difference between us,
and you and i?

Morning for Two
He smiles with a loving glint in his eyes,
with a slight inhale, he breathes me in.
"You're my saving grace", he sighs,
a gentle press of his lips let's me know we are about to begin.
Never rushing he savors every flavor.
He holds me close, rarely setting me down.
Drinking from me every last drop, his desire never threatened to waver.
Once finished, a smirk on his face tells me he wasn't letdown.
Awake now and stable,
he sets his empty coffee cup gently back on the table.
