Sun Sign Basics ☼

Our Sun sign is the most popular understanding of our natal charts, and what is used in most horoscopes. There are many other details to a chart that can determine how the Sun sign portrays itself. If you struggle with identifying with your Sun sign, here maybe why;

Planetary Dignity: A planets dignity can determine how 'comfortable' a planet maybe in your chart. Some planets feel more comfortable and welcomed in certain signs than they do in others.

For example; the Sun thrives better in the sign of Leo, as Leo is considered the ruler of the Sun. Because Aquarius is opposite of Leo, the Sun may feel less comfortable in this sign, making it so that the Sun portrays itself differently than what is expected of it

For example; If the Sun is in aspect to Venus, this will influence the Sun to be more lighthearted, kind ad careful, perhaps even too passive. On the other hand, if the Sun is aspecting Mars, this could influence the Sun to be harsher and more aggressive in its expression

House Placement: There are 12 different houses the Sun can reside in our charts. This placement will have the most personal effect on the native, as the houses are determined by birth time and place. Time and place of birth are essential for understanding this placement

For example; if the Sun is placed in the 1st house, the native will have a great deal of natural self expression and assertion of self. Alternatively, if the Sun is placed in the 7th house, which is opposite of the 1st, the native may put more effort into 1-on-1 interactions and relationships in order to gain their sense of expression and assertion

💫Applying & Separating Aspects in the Chart 💫

I didn't even know about the concept of "Applying" and "Separating" aspects before I enrolled in a formal Astrology program. The letters "A" and "S" in the aspect tables on astro.com didn't draw my attention all that much. 😁

As it turned out, it's actually important to know what they mean, and since 2 people asked me about it yesterday, I decided to write a little post about it. 😊

Essentially, there are three "states" that aspects can be in:

1. Applying

2. Exact

3. Separating

We know that exact aspects (0-1° orb) are extremely potent in the birth chart, especially the major ones. But what about the other two types?

Separating basically means that the aspect has already been EXACT before you were born, and the FASTER out of the two planets is saying "see ya later, alligator", and moving away from the slower one. Applying means the opposite - the aspect will become exact AFTER your birth.

So, in the picture above, there is a Mercury/Venus conjunction at 5° that is Applying. Mercury is quick on its feet, so it will meet Venus after no more than 5 days after the native's birth. This is when the aspect will become exact and will reach its full potency.

Blah-blah, 5 days after birth. Why does it even matter?

Honestly, it matters the most when we pull up progression charts where 1° equals 1 year. In progressions, 5 days become 5 years, which is why the astrologer may forecast an event at that time, that relates to the aspect's themes.

Another example from the aspect table above is the 3° square between Mars/Saturn that is Separating. Will it be less prominent and weak in the chart? This is my aspect, so I can tell you for sure that it isn't weak, at all. But it's also involved in two major chart configurations (T-Square + Saturn is also part of a Grand Trine). Perhaps, if it didn't have those additional highlighters, it could've been kind of "meh" since the orb isn't all that tight, and Mars separates from Saturn.

It isn't wise to judge aspects (or anything in the chart) in isolation. Yet, you can consider the "exactness" of the orb and whether or not an aspect applies/separates, as bonus factors/points adding to the overall analysis of how the aspect fits into the birth chart puzzle.

This is how long it takes for each planet to travel 1 Degree:

The Sun - 1 day

The Moon - 2,1 hours

Mercury - 0,5-1 day

Venus - 0,75-1 day

Mars - 2 days

Jupiter - 5 days

Saturn - 10 days

Uranus - 20 days

Neptune - 25-27 days

Pluto - 30-40 days

Knowing that you should look at the FASTER planet and that 1 day = 1°, you can use this information to find out if you had anything eventful happen to you around the time a separating aspect became exact in your chart. I'd pay more attention if the aspect is between an outer/generational planet and one of your inner planets. Aspects between Mercury/Venus or Moon/Mercury, for example, are much more common and don't hold that much "weight" in the chart, but you can still check them out.

So, if someone has a Moon/Uranus square at 3° that is Applying, this means that the Moon will form the exact aspect around 6 HOURS after their birth! 6 hours is 1/4 a day, so around 3 months after their birth, maybe something happened to them or in their family, which potentially affected them in a big way. Again, depending on how significant the aspect is in the birth chart's story.

With this combo, we could see an incident involving their family members/mother, their parents splitting up, or the family relocating to a different city or even country. In general, the Moon also rules our environment, so there might've been some kind of a shock/shocking event that potentially left a lasting impression on the subconscious mind of the child. It doesn't have to be a "big" event - the child's mind is so sensitive to impressions at that age, that sometimes even an argument between the parents or something similar can be traumatic. But this is a theme for another post.

In conclusion, I am a HUGE advocate for a holistic approach to the birth chart, and although I write about independent aspects and placements, please remember that it's all general information, and you should take it with a grain of salt. Always. Please. Especially if the info implies that you might be f#cked up in some way. 😂 I don't support fear-based Astrology, so I would never want my content to make you see yourself as a victim!

what are planetary hours?

each hour of the day is ruled by a specific planet. every planet holds a different energy, resulting in each hour holding a different influence. planetary hours are great to schedule important meetings or dates, to study, manifest, post content, etc. and it's a technique often used by wealthy people to boost their success ✨ this practice dates back to hellenistic astrology; as such, we'll only take in consideration the seven classical planets: the sun, the moon, mercury, venus, mars, saturn and jupiter. in this reading I'll show you how to calculate planetary hours, what they mean and how you can use them based on your birth chart 💫.

calculating planetary hours

calculating planetary hours is extremely easy, and also free. first of all, I suggest using the website planetaryhours.net. you just have to select the date of the day you want to check and the place of your location, and you'll automatically get a chart of all the planetary hours of the chosen day. apple users also have access to the planetaro app, which pretty much works the same. the advantages of this app are the possibility to enable notifications, in order to be noticed whenever it is a certain planetary hour, and you can also add an aesthetic widget to your home screen to always keep an eye on them.

how to make the best out of planetary hours

☉ sun hour: great for being in the spotlight, creativity, confidence and self-expression. during sun hour, try to schedule your job interviews, post your social media content to reach more engagement, work on your creative projects to be more inspired; talk to authoritative figures during this hour (for example to ask your boss for a raise). sun hour is also great for manifesting success, fame, popularity and confidence.

☽ moon hour: great time to spend with your family or at home in general. you can book a table at a restaurant during moon hour, since it's also the hour for food, you can have a meal with your family, or also cook, as the food cooked during this hour turns out very delicious. moon hour is also great for serene naps, with frequent dreams. in fact, during this hour we tend to be more in tune with our imagination and intuition. as such, you can also read tarots or your birth chart with better results during moon hour. this is also a great time for journaling and writing down your feelings.

☿ mercury hour: this is the best time for communication and learning of any kind. it's the best hour to study, you may find yourself easily more focused on the topics you're studying. this is also the best time to write essays or any kind of formal document. if you have to write and send an important email or message, this is the best time to do it. this is also the best hour to take a lesson or an exam, if you can schedule them at your leisure. this is also a good time to write content for your blog (it's mercury hour as I'm writing this rn!) and for creative writing. this is also a good hour to sell items and to make deals in general.

♀︎ venus hour: during venus hour you can do a bunch of things! first of all, it's the best time for love, therefore you can schedule a date, a marriage during venus hour in order to make it turn out well. it's also a great hour for creative activities and for entertainment in general. during venus hour you may attend a concert, go watch a movie, go shopping, throw a party... it's also the best time to book an appointment with the hairdresser, with your nail tech and anything that involves beauty. this is also a good time to grow your social media, create and post content and manifest luxury and money.

♂︎ mars hour: great for physical activity; if you workout, make sure to do it during mars hour for better stamina and results. this also applies for sports and competitions of any kind. mars hour also makes you more assertive, so it's a good hour to make decisions and plan your week, do something that you always procrastinate. on the other hand, remember that mars is also a malefic planet: try to avoid confrontations that may escalate into an argument, as during this hour it's easier to get stressed or lose our temper.

♃ jupiter hour: jupiter hour is obviously the lucky hour of the day! it's the best time to manifest abundance and wealth, you may want to play the lottery during this time. this is also a good time to launch your business, do anything that you may want to grow and turn into success. that can implicate studying for an important test, investing your money... during jupiter hour you can also pursue spiritual activies like meditation, astrology, yoga, tarot reading, etc. in addition, it's the best time to study a foreign language and planning trips.

♄ saturn hour: during saturn hour we tend to feel more disciplined; as a result, it's the best time to do your house chores, complete a project you are procrastinating, organize your week and your plans for the future. saturn usually makes things slow, therefore if you want to do something swiftly make sure not to do it during this hour. instead, do things that you want to take slow and nurture with time. saturn also rules karma, therefore be mindful of what you do and what happens during this hour. most of the time, significant events that occur during saturn hours are karmic events that were meant to be.

a little trick

to make the most out of planetary hours, look at your birth chart and act based on your personal planets. for example, let's suppose you want to cut your hair. you can book your appointment during venus hour, but what I suggest you to do is to look at the sign your venus falls in. for example, if your natal venus is in virgo, it means it's ruled by mercury, and therefore mercury hour will activate your natal venus and give you its benefits. in this way, you'll be able to match the energy of your birth chart to planetary hours for better results.

CAN'T RELATE? Lets explore why

After posting my 4th house series, I noticed a huge uptick in people informing me that they could not relate to this specific placement. Personally, I find it interesting to find a placement that I can’t relate with because I then get to ask my favorite question, “Why?” Not being able to initially relate with an astrological placement does not make it inaccurate, but rather more complex and multi-layered. I couldn’t relate to my big three upon first read, so I’m going to use examples from my own natal chart to show why this is. I then have a short guide that follows. 

My Sun and Moon are in Leo, and my Ascendent is in Gemini. I didn’t relate with this because from my understanding, Leo and Gemini are incredibly extraverted signs, and I very much am not. I’d think that someone with these placements wouldn’t have the ability to shut up. At the same time, I associated these placements with being wildly entertaining and popular. Now, don’t get me wrong, when I was a child and young teenager I was often told that I was being “too much.” But at the same time, I’ve always felt overlooked and ignored, and have been told time and time again by others that I am shy and unapproachable. 

First, let's look at where Leo and Gemini can be found within my chart. 

I have Leo in the third house - This makes sense to me because the one area in which I’ve always been able to gain attention is through writing. I am a parental figure to my sibling, and shined within the classroom during elementary school/middle school. 

I have another Gemini placement in Saturn, positioned within the twelfth house - This explains a lot. I think the majority of my introverted qualities come from this placement. My father (who has many Gemini placements btw) was absent and traveling across the world while I was growing up, I had to take on a lot of responsibility at a young age. This also gives me a harsh inner critic, I am really mean to myself during social situations.

Because my Ascendent is in Gemini, we now have to look at my Mercury placements because Gemini is ruled by Mercury. 

My Mercury is in Virgo - I think this offers me a sense of practicality and brings me down to earth. 

My Mercury is in the fourth house - This is what makes me a homebody. I feel like I am my truest self at home and feel most comfortable here. With my Moon being in Leo (moon rules over the fourth house), I truly do my best creative and intellectual work from home. I express myself the best here, and I do show off the more fun qualities of Leo and Gemini in private rather than public. 

Now, let's look at Aspects to my Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Ascendant 

My Sun placement has aspects with Mars and Uranus. This may give people reason to think that I am unapproachable. 

My Moon is also aspecting both Mars and Uranus, double whammy lol.  

My Mercury placement is aspecting all four generational planets. This is going to have a heavy effect upon the light and breezy energy of Mercury. 

I also have Mars and Uranus aspecting my Ascendant. People always think I am more intimidating than I actually am, or they expect me to be a mean bully! It honestly hurts my feelings because I try my best to always be kind! 

Finally, what are the degrees of my Sun, Moon and Ascendant?

All three placements are on a cusp and placed within the third decan. The energies of my Sun, Moon and Ascendant are going to be more mature so I can finalize important lessons during this lifetime. 

A quick guide: 

What's the sign? - Take a close look at the sign of said placement. Can it be found within other parts of your natal chart? How many times does it appear? 

What planets are ruling over this placement? - Pay attention to house rulership. For example, the fourth house is ruled by the moon. So when looking at your fourth house placement, also think about how that interacts with your moon placement. More information can be found through the planetary rulership of a sign, find that planet in other areas of your natal chart. 

Aspects - Look to the aspects of that placement. I have many aspect descriptions posted on my masterlist, if anyone is curious. 

Degrees - Degree placements can reveal highly specific lessons and challenges. 

(I feel a bit uncomfortable using my own natal chart, but I learn best through example and I know other people do too. I hope seeing how I broke down my own chart is helpful. Otherwise, I hope this guide can help bridge some gaps in relatability. )

Two questions…

1. How does one go about becoming a professional astrologer?

2. Where do you stand on traditional vs western rulership? (i.e., Scorpio house is ruled by Mars or Pluto)

Attend an Astrology University/College/Institute and get a Diploma/Certificate, then I'd highly recommend (if possible) practicing at a professional astrologer's (preferably with 2/5 years of experience minimum) studio for a while.

When talking about rulerships I stand on a modern perspective (ex. Scorpio ruled by Mars as primary ruler and then Pluto, Pisces ruled by Jupiter as a primary ruler and then Neptune, Aquarius ruled primarily by Saturn and then Saturn) and so on... But I'm still cynical about houses being related to signs and that houses have rulers. I only believe fully in the traditional Planetary Dignities but a bit guarded and analytical bout the rest.

the 24th degree is a pisces degree, meaning that planets here can take up more of an emotional and intuitive nature when it comes to their planetary themes. objects at this degree can make us much more intuitive, empathetic, and creative !!

for example, with your jupiter and mars conjunct at 24° cancer, this can mean that you take a more sensitive approach to conflict with others, or perhaps you're a bit sensitive to conflict yourself (esp. surrounding politics, spirituality, morals, religion, or your cultural beliefs)

but despite mars' snappiness from being fallen in cancer, jupiter is empowered from being exalted here !! this can make it easier for you to see the bigger picture to conflict and understand when engaging in disagreement is actually important or not. jupiter at 24° cancer can make us wiser and gentler with our words, rather than using them to lash out people

Life is your best astrology teacher. The best way to learn about all areas of your chart is to pay attention to the transits activating it. All of the planets are currently moving through one of your houses and might be making important aspects to your natal placements, but the Moon in particular makes an entire trip around the zodiac in just 27+ days. That’s the full range of opportunities within every month to see how she casts a reflection on all houses and placements in your natal chart. Be open to what she wants to show you. Check the transits a couple times a day (or whatever feels best for you) and pay attention to where the Moon is if you’re looking for more immediate insight into parts of yourself. The slower moving planets tend to represent more extensive stories unfolding, but the Moon can really help us to understand ourselves.

I’ve found that the conjunctions she makes in transit to placements in my natal chart are definitely the most important aspects to look for if you’re wanting the opportunities to reflect on your natal placements and discover more about how they manifest in your life.

Also, if you are ever just feeling some type of way really strongly, really thinking about a specific topic, or something curious has happened in the moment (not necessarily some monumental occurrence, just something that makes you wonder about astro dynamics) I really recommend looking up the transits in that moment. You might find the Moon conjunct one of your placements. (Or highlighting a planet in the universal transits.)🌛🪄

You could spend years trying to pull interpretations for areas of your natal chart out your ass (just a colorful figure of speech☺️), or reading up on generalized descriptions of placements that don’t take into account how they fit into your chart. But trust me, seeing how life interacts with your chart in real time is the most specific and personal way to build better understanding of the map of the cosmos that reflects the map within you.

The Long Game. Personal experiences with Planetary Transits and Returns.

Pluto will enter Aquarius for the first time since the late 1700s on March 23, 2023. It will retrograde back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius until officially settling into Aquarius on November 19, 2024. Pluto in Aquarius will last until March 9, 2043.

Q: Why am I using myself as an experiment?

A: I am a major Aquarian.

Sun in Aquarius 28 degrees

Moon in Aquarius 13 degrees

Mercury in Aquarius 3 degrees

Uranus in Aquarius 2 degrees

Juno in Aquarius 15 degrees

Descendant in Aquarius 25 degrees

That means Pluto will transit all 5 of these bodies plus more by conjunction over the next 20 years of my life in this order:

BONUS: Neptune in Capricorn 26 degrees 5th

Uranus in Aquarius 2 degrees 6th

Mercury in Aquarius 3 degrees 6th

Moon in Aquarius 13 degrees 6th

Juno in Aquarius 15 degrees 6th

Next, I will keep track of my planetary returns, most famously my Saturn return.

I listed all the returns of the following planets until 2030: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter (my next Jupiter return isn't until 2031, age 35), and Saturn.

I compared the lists and matched up any relatively close dates.

Mercury Return 2/13/23 + Venus Return 2/28/23 (age 26/27)

Venus Return 3/6/25 + Saturn Return 3/27/25 (age 29)

Mars Return 3/4/26 + Venus Return 3/14/26 (age 30)

Mars Return 2/12/28 + Venus Return 2/16/28 (age 31)

Mercury Return 1/5/29, 1/8/29, 2/26/29 (age 32/33)

The Rulership Book, Degree Theory & 2023!🤯

Hey, guys! I haven't posted in a few days, so I thought I'd give you a quick update on what I've been up to!

I've been binge-watching videos from my fellow Bulgarian Astrologer - AstroLada - on Youtube! She has an AMAZING series with the Serbian Astrologer - Nikola Stojanovic (he passed away in 2021, God bless his soul!). He's the one who created the fantastic Degree Theory, and I can honestly say that he played with the planetary energies like a child plays with toys!

I highly recommend that you guys check out their discussions - all of them are super entertaining and informative!

Also, if you really want to learn how to read the language of the stars, you need to know what each house/planet/sign rules! And there are soo many things that fall under the rulership of a sign, for example - ranging from the most mundane and specific to entire countries/cities, etc. There is a book that contains all of these meanings - it's like a big a$$ dictionary for Astrology lovers! I have the pdf version of it, which you can download for free from the link below!

Another video I watched (it's over 2 hours, but so worth it!) was Lada's video on the upcoming changes that will begin to unfold in 2023!
