Hey, can I say first off that your slugcat conlang (Yongasabi) is amazing?!? Seriously, I'm learning it now. I wanted to ask, are you okay with having AUs made off of your Undergrowth AU/taking place in the same universe?

I am so flattered that people are really going out of their way to learn my silly little scuglang... In any case, I would honestly floored, astounded, and honored if people wanted to work within the world I've made with Undergrowth. I would encourage it even! I hope to get some more definitive stuff out on it soon, though the actual askblog isn't going to start until I get my MAP parts done.

I suppose some helpful things to know and context that might not be mentioned in or clear from the language doc:

You could probably figure but I already have plans for all the main slugcats. I couldn't stop someone from using the main slugcats in their own story if they wanted to make their own spin on it.

A lot of settlements exist in underground geothermal pockets. While slugcats have been nomadic, managing and tending groves and orchards as they migrate, Scavengers have been managing more sedentary agriculture, which was much more easily adapted to the underground compared to slugcat techniques. Many slugcat colonies that settled moved in and integrated with Scavenger settlements, adopting their techniques for a better chance of survival.

Not all have settled into living underground! Some settlements are built above ground. There are still nomadic colonies, and smaller caravans or individual wanders who know how to navigate the Endless Winter.

Saint comes from Sliver of Straw's retaining wall, where the slugcats actually maintain a separate culture from the Yongasabi. They were dealing with snow long before the Endless Winter came.

Monk, Survivor, and Gourmand's colony have only just moved into Moon's retaining wall recently, within each of their lifetime

By the time of Undergrowth, Pebbles and Metropolis has collapsed. Though the city has been in the process of relocating to a nearby geothermal pocket, they still maintain their seat as the center of power for Scavenger politics. In Metropolis, they speak Reconstructed Ancient, a mix of Scavenger and Ancient, made to interface with the city's technology before Pebbles collapsed.

Scavenger clans are a thing! Structures can vary so don't worry about getting it wrong. There are even multiple around Moon and Pebbles' retaining wall. UG Arti was actually taken in by a Scavenger clan rival to Metropolis, who tried to direct her anger towards neighboring clans in order to coalesce power.

On that note, in UG, Arti's explosive powers are actually the result of something called the Fire Powder Ritual, a grueling process that involves the regular consumption of process firebush powder. Normally prepared fire powder is consumed to treat parasites because it makes the body inhospitable, but it's miserable. Enough regular consumption actually changes the makeup and behaviors of the body on a fundamental level, allowing consumers to generate sparks and breath fiery or combustive smoke, but the process of the ritual is so miserable most people would rather die than finish it. More on this another time.

Rivulet's not genetically modified in any way. Her semi-aquatic nature is a quirk of her people, but her ridiculous agility and speed is just a her thing.

Wild dandelion peaches are extinct (oh no) but they are carefully cultivated underground.

I don't want this answer to get too bloated but these are some things that I feel help to give greater context for what Undergrowth is like in ways I haven't been able to demonstrate yet. Whatever you do, be sure to let me know, I'll be dying to check it out!

What can you tell us about silco's job as a blaster? Vander likened it to an experienced bartender mixing a cocktail which I thought was a really cool metaphor. Also, what particularly does silco enjoy about it? Some parts are obvious, but i feel like there's a lot that could be delved into there. Your description of him as a genius, teenaged pyromaniac was awesome and will be in my brain forever. Thank you for sharing all of your cool ideas and research info it's really, really awesome

I'm so glad you think so, because I keep wondering if I'm focusing too much on it! I've been trying to leave a lot to subtext, but this is probably the story I've put the most research into (which is why I feel compelled to complete it tbh).

I think for Silco, a large part of what he enjoys about being a blaster is that for all he's a laborer, he's a skilled one. It requires training, talent, intelligence, and a level of guts that borders quite a bit on recklessness. These are all things that Silco sees himself as, and how he wants to be regarded by others. Silco's story was about trying to display his exceptionalism to people who were outright blind to it.

But for all that Silco acts reckless, he's actually an inherently calculating person. Vander sees that in him as a blaster because he recognizes it as a performance. A good bartender can make counting ounces seem like sheer coincidence with a backhand pour or a bit of bartending flair, but Vander knows that they're running a count. So Silco's pouring black powder like he's doing it in a cavalier way, but Vander's catching the thought behind it.

He saw through the act. He keeps seeing through Silco's acts.

Now, for the blasting itself--black powder blasting in a coal mine was incredibly dangerous. On average, two dozen miners died a year in one state alone from black powder incidents. Six blasters died within one month in the same county.

It is a genuine bragging point to Silco that he hasn't gotten any of his team or himself killed. It's why he's on the front line. The accident that killed Felicia's parents? That wouldn't even necessarily have been out of the ordinary, however traumatic it was for her (and for him, as the young miner sent in to basically watch her mother and others die of crush syndrome, unable to help them).

That was a radicalizing moment for Silco. Piltover owns the mines, and did nothing.

It also probably explains why he is an absolute stickler for mining safety. Not that his words are even making it back up to the mine owners/operators. Silco wants to appear cool and dangerous, but he's doing everything he can to control the outcomes. It's just that in the position they're in, he's genuinely powerless about the decisions of the people above him.

Now, apart from blasting through hard rock, Silco is also shot-firing. That's setting a charge that shatters the face of a coal seam to be dug out and shuttled up. It all works in roughly the same way--drill a hole (Vander's part, because I had to find a way to work those gauntlets into mining, a role that ironically would later be better handled by a HexClaw), and then placing a charge to shatter it (Silco's part, which--again ironically--would be made irrelevant by the Atlas Gauntlets, except for the fact that the technology never made it down to the mines).

You guys know how I love my ironies, and also my parallels between Vanco and Jayvik.

Silco narrates a few ways that black powder shots are blown, when he's explaining to Vander so that Vander doesn't jump the gun and pull him back too soon. If he failed to tamp a charge/pack the hole or he didn't measure the depth right, it would just shatter back at them (a windy shot or a blown-out shot, which would basically perforate them instead of taking out the rock).

Silco's doing the job the way mine operators wanted in the late 1800s/early 1900s, but in the way mining unions opposed--keeping the blasters/shot-firers in as regular crew so that the moment the blast goes off they're bringing up coal, rather than having the blasters keep their own shifts and only firing when no other miners were there to be hurt.

Because in Zaun, it's Piltover's word that goes.

- bdubs is lactose intolerant but in complete denial about it, he WILL kill you if you try to bring it up

Scientists in Switzerland have invented a way to make chocolate healthier and more sustainable.

Typically, only cocoa beans and pulp are extracted for our chocolate bars. But researchers at the ETH Zurich federal technology institute have discovered that the cocoa pod husk can be used

Their new recipe involves taking what’s known as the endocarp, the inner layer of the fruit shell, and mixing it with some of the pulp surrounding the beans to make a sweet cocoa jelly.

There are more casual NPC conversations about life in the hollow and stuff but I couldn't catch it all but these ones are the ones that cycle often the most.

From the implications, it seems the Kame'tire don't fully understand the entire concept of Dreamwalkers: they believe the Dreamwalker's spirit passed onto Eywa than returning back to the sky-people form.

Maybe they believe the sky people transferred the driver's spirit to the avatar since the well-known 'Dreamwalker' prominent in Na'vi future is Jake Sully who's transferal to his avatar body. It's not hard to reason why they'd think that since they're not familiar with human technology and surrogate bodies. Death is death, to them i suppose.

Also, i love the notion of Smoke Weavers!! they sound so interesting!! Kame'tire specialises in potions and smoke bombs so it's of no surprise they have that line of work, which i apparently very risky.

Okay, I won't lie NSW is more than slightly outside of my area of expertise when it comes to camping but the basics are the same anywhere. You said you have a tent and bag and some gear so we're not starting out at baby beginnings.

Step one, check the forecast. If its gonna be a heat wave or a cold snap or pissing rain wouldn't it be nice to know that before you're sitting miserable in a tent in the middle of nowhere? Plan accordingly, pack accordingly and you will be amazed how much you can deal with if you're prepared for it. Personally I have a nice rainshell with me at all times because it acts as a windbreak, water barrier, and exposure layer. I have taken a rainshell into the mojave desert where it never rains and I was right to do so because the wind got cold. I have occasionally been the overprepared dork, but I have more often been the only one not getting hypothermia.

Step two, know where you're going. As in, what to expect not just physically where it is. Are there restrooms? Water? Animals? Poisonous/stabby plants? Poisonous/stabby bugs? Other campers? Poisonous/stabby campers? Hazards? Cell service? Emergency services? Gas stations? Can you safely have a fire? Can you toast/grill your food or are you having cold dinner?

Step three, pack the most obscenely overdone toiletries kit you can imagine. Yes, this is actually important. My god, human bodies are messy. All your basic overnight goodies and then add sunscreen, bug dope, wet wipes or something similar, your own toilet paper and something to dig with if you're going out past available restrooms, and a small first aid kit. The kit doesn't have to be a full triage supply, tweezers, bandaids, antiseptic and maybe some gauze if you're clumsy. If you are gonna be doing a lot of walking/hiking I also recommend moleskin for blisters. Put the moleskin on BEFORE the blister pops.

Step four, look at the forecast again, assume it's wrong and pack for the worst weather possible. You need a dry pair of socks and undies. You need long sleeves and a spare shirt. Even if it doesn't feel like it, you will sweat through the day and get damp and if you sleep in the same thing you've been wearing you will get chilled. This is why every one says no cotton for camping, no matter where you are. I have a full change of clothes for sleeping so my day clothes can air and dry overnight.

Step five is food and its really each to his own for this one. If you're hiking out you will be more limited as far as weight/refrigeration, but thats somewhat of a trial and error thing. Freeze dried meals have their place but there is no reason it has to be your go to. Remember your water and remember that if you sweat and replace it with nothing but water you will be hurting. Powdered drink mix is your friend. If you're car camping and tenting next to the car I just bring a 5 gallon jug of water that stays in the car and refill waterbottles as needed. (Note: Senshi from dungeon meshi isn't actually an unattainable fantasy, you can cook a full scale meal in the backcountry if you really want to. It is several magnitudes more difficult than you would think if you are used to cooking in a kitchen, but it is possible.)

Step six is assessing your gadgets. If you want your phone you probably need a power pack to charge it. You will want a flashlight for the dark, not your phone, not glowsticks. If you want a camera you have to figure out how to carry that with you. You also need to figure out if you have cell service and a way to call for help. The more intense you get into this, the more you should look at getting a GPS or inreach/spot device, especially if you want to go alone. This is also a good time to come to grips with the falliblity of technology and get a paper map.

Step seven is for sleeping arrangements, which you seem to have covered. My rip is to set up sleeping stuff as soon as you get to where your making camp, so that way your bag has a chance to loft and your aren't fiddling with stuff sacks in the dark when your tired. And drunk if you're party camping. Open the sleeping bag before the tequila. Also a sleeping pad will protect your bag and also your joints so you don't wake up feeling like Rip van Winkle.

Have fun, be safe, don't be a dick and clean up after your self at your campsite. Sleeping in the dirt is a great time and I hope you enjoy your trip.

On the southern coast of South Africa, about halfway between Cape Town and Gqeberha, near the town of George, is one location used by the Wilton culture known as the Oakhurst Rock Shelter. The Wilton culture is known as a technocomplex, or an Archaeological culture as opposed to what we would know as a culture with a shared set of values and behaviors. They shared stone and non-stone type tools, which included microlithic tools such as scrapers, and a general ending around the time pottery was introduced to the area.

Oakhurst was first rediscovered in the 1930s, which was then determined to have housed humans for 12,000 years. Rock art, stone tool, ceramic fragments, and the remains of 46 people have been fund in the location. Burials in South Africa are very rare finds, even more so for individuals. With new technology, it's now possible to map the genomes 13 of those people.

The oldest genomes they were able to sequence were from two people who lived about 10,000 years ago. What these results showed was that, unlike areas like Mesopotamia and the Levant, there weren't waves of people coming to replace those who were there leading to mixing, the population was stable at least through 1,300 years ago. The genomes were found to be remarkably similar, especially since Africa has the highest genetic diversity in the world. The genomes are related to the modern ǂKhomani San people with no relation to people groups outside of Africa. It is known that another people group arrived around 2,000 years ago, but even the newest genome, from 1,300 years ago, were genetically similar to the older genomes and didn't show any mixing with the new group.

While archaeologists have been able to trace movements through Asia and Europe via genetics, most of Africa has temperatures that are too high on average to preserve genetic information, making the genetic information these skeletons provided even more precious. Even with the samples, some required several attempts to recover, eventually some requiring bone to be powdered to extract DNA.

Chiss culture loves to place importance on anything artisanal. The main focus points that contribute most to their social hierarchy is jewelry making, makeup, and textiles. Thus making the Guilds something just as important as the Aristocra itself.

I just imagine the first few years of Thrawn being in the Empire, he learns about droid factories that mass manufacture clothing etc. Basically being awed that anything he knew the Chiss did to get their resources, the Empire did it on a wider scale and in greater numbers, hence their technological differences.

But I also imagine in the Guild of Weaving, various sashes and robes being hand woven with intricate patterns and precious threads to elevate their status. Each pattern paying homage to different Houses or even being as detailed as the funeral pikes, telling a story in the hem of the fabric.

Guild of Smithing works tirelessly hammering away at metals until they're thin sheets to be cut and curled into hairpins and jewelry. The Guild of Gems also works in tandem with the Guild of Smithing so they inlay cut jewels into the shaped metal, polishing them to refinement.

The Guild of Enchancement (bc the Guild of Makeup doesnt sound fancy enough) crushes powders and minerals to be mixed with oils and clay. Some even being fired at a certain temperature to bring out the specific pigment. They also hand grind hair oils and mix body oils/lotions and the like.

A two-for-one deal, since the cleric description and the code of clerics option both won in the last lore vote. Today we'll be looking at the two main responsibilities of a cleric and the unique set of restrictions that bind them.

Clerics: Healing

The main job of a cleric, the one which most cats can relate to, is to heal sick and injured Clanmates. Their medicine dens are not only places for recovering cats to sleep but act as important stores for medicinal liquids, powders, and other concoctions. Clerics are very picky about who can meddle in their stores, but there are multiple roles that need access to the medicinal goods. Artisans trade certain medicines with other Clans. Mediators sometimes need herbal remedies for the mental afflictions of the Clan. Historians often learn about medicine in their studies. Meanwhile, caretakers and warriors often assist in collecting herbs and turning them into medicine. Other cats can all be recruited to help clerics in times of crisis when they need more paws caring for injuries or are too sick to care for others themselves.

Cleric medicine is a complex enough topic that a cleric spends most of their life devoted to the subject. It's not just about collecting the right leaves and stuffing them onto wounds. In this world, clerics have a wider range of medicinal technology. They harvest herbs and transform them into some of the following;

Infused oils: While WheatClan is the only Clan that produces the ever-useful flaxseed oil, which they trade for use in both food and medicine, clerics and artisans can make a simpler, cruder oil from animal fat (the finished product isn't considered "oil", however, due to its differences from flaxseed oil). Clerics infuse this oil with herbs by mixing the two in one pot, then setting it inside a bigger pot with some water over a fire (clerics have their own fireplace/oven setup that is only used for medicine). The water around the smaller pot infuses the herbs into the oil over the course of an hour. When it's done, they strain the herbs out of the oil and keep the finished product.

Salves/Balms/Ointments: Clerics mix their infused oil with a strong wax (beeswax or tallow) to create a stronger variation of a traditional chewed poultice (although they may add some solid herbs to the finished product). Ointments involve the use of water and are better for skin/fur issues than the stiffer salves and balms.

Concoctions: This includes adding herbs to food for medicinal benefits, boiling herbs for decoctions, mixing herbs with honey, and otherwise mashing them together.

Clerics also use the herbs as we are traditionally familiar with, having patients chew them or eat them whole. A cleric's job also involves a series of non-herbal strategies, which includes the use of leeches, exercise, grooming, rituals to StarClan, and more. Notably, while cobwebs are a great emergency bandage, artisans can craft actual bandages from animal skin and plant fiber. Some of these bandages can be washed out and reused.

Clerics: Connection To StarClan

The other major job of a cleric is to maintain a connection to StarClan and advise their Clan on the opinions and advice of their ancestors. If a StarClan cat needs to speak to a living cat, they will usually go for the cleric. Oftentimes, StarClan only has the strength and knowledge to send vague signs and omens which clerics are trained to identify and interpret. They visit StarClan's Shrine on the half-moon preceding the Gathering in order to reconnect with the ancestors and get more clear-cut advice (while also connecting with fellow clerics on spiritual/medical matters).

Clerics have a wide range of rituals designed to bring strength from StarClan. They can also summon StarClan spirits through a special ritual (which I will explain another time). They can even perform a variant of it to speak to a Dark Forest cat, but this is seen as taboo and would earn ire from StarClan's Judges.

The Code of Clerics Origins: The First Cleric

The first cleric in the impressive records all historians work hard to maintain was known as Hickoryroot. A lot of her story sounds like myth at this point, but historians have worked hard to keep it as true as they could.

It is said she was a SlugClan warrior from the days where roles were not split as they are in the modern Clans. It is said that she learned some of the first medicines from watching a human (a Native American, possibly East Cree) gather herbs and turn them into a medicine for a wounded friend. The stars saw her experimentation and provided the herbs she needed to establish the foundations of Clan medicine. This provincial relationship made the role of the cleric forever connected to StarClan.

The process of preparing medicine was so time consuming that Hickoryroot had no time to help with hunting, kit care, or the other duties of a warrior. As such, the Clans decided her role would be distinct from the others. She would work under a different set of rules. With that, the Code of Clerics began to grow.

The Decrees within the Code of Clerics

A cleric's job is to care for the health of their Clan and connect the worlds of the living and dead. As such, they are not expected to help in other duties in the same way as most of the other roles. In fact, it is the duty of the Clan to support the cleric in whatever they need. They need more bandages? Artisans will make more bandages. They need extra paws to harvest herbs? Caretakers will join them and care for their herb patches/gardens for them. The Clan will protect and feed the cleric so all they have to worry about is their job.

It is forbidden to endanger, harm, or disrupt the work of a cleric. StarClan helps them heal their Clanmates and guide the Clans as a whole. Since clerics are forbidden from combat, to attack one is sacrilegious and will send a cat to trial. Only StarClan can order a cleric not to heal someone in need. If a cleric decides they need to help, no one can stop them.

Hickoryroot established this practice as a social custom, but it was later solidified as code that clerics cannot take a mate or have kits, even as an honor sire. It's not that a cleric would be distracted by their family (they have friends, siblings, and parents, after all), but rather that a cleric is a servant of StarClan and has an elevated position over other cats. They cannot take a mate in an equal relationship and they cannot take the guiding role of a parent without diluting their spiritual connections. It should be noted, however, that this aspect of the code is only a tradition in RippleClan, not a decree. Clerics in RippleClan are allowed to pursue relationships. Whether Fennelspot will take a mate one day remains to be seen...

thoughts on arcane?

So — I have not actually seen Arcane.

I know, I know—it's exactly the kind of show I would like. Characters as the embodiment of need pitted against need against need against need; messiness and various manners of dealing (or not dealing) with trauma; a focus on complicated sibling bonds, particularly sisters (looks at my original works); discussions of the ethics of magic and technology; potentially blue-orange morality for certain characters (Hermindinger or whatever his name is?); canon sapphics; and absolutely stunningly gorgeous animation we've basically never seen before, quality wise.

However, as a combination of my empathy or autism or whatever, I am also deeply sensitive to violent visual media (tv shows, movies), especially the more realistic it is—beatings and live action swordfights are the worst for me. Legend of Vox Machina is probably the most I can handle because it's animated and even then I've had to look away a few times and wait for a scene to be over. So I tried to watch Arcane season 1 when it came out, got too anxious over child Powder potentially being hurt in a knife fight, and had to bail.

That said, I would like to / do plan on watching Arcane eventually. My partner Burrs and I have a system where they'll watch something ahead of time (what we ended up doing with Vox Machina) and then rewatch it with me while I do my first time through. That way if I get anxious, I can get assurance about what's going to happen or can know when to look away / look back if I need to (i.e. the one admittedly short torture scene in s1 of Vox was not for me). So now that Arcane is out, we'll probably get around to it soon!

I think I'll probably end up preferring S1 as a self contained story in some ways — not necessarily because S2 is bad (I'm sure it's not) or because the fandom's opinion is a little more mixed on it (I often have the opposite opinion to popular fandom consensus—the fact that S4 is the exception in TDP and not the rule is as refreshing as it has been frustrating) — but because I feel like maybe some of S2's pacing might be a bit crunched for time, and I'm curious how they're going to handle having disabled/characters with facial differences as villains/antagonists. Again.

Also Mel and Ekko are probably going to be some of the top faves, and I feel like I've heard nothing about Mel in season two, so... we shall see! I'm sure I'll still like both seasons, I don't know if they're going to be mindblowing for me.

Mindbroken Velvette Ideas:

Velvette is attacked by Exorcists (could be Adam & Lute or some we’ve never met) because they think she’s the one who killed the angel. They try to kill her but Vox & Val intervene and whisk Velvette to safety, but not before an Angelic spear is thrown at her head. 

Good news is Velvette’s alive! Bad news is Velvette’s missing half her face (and maybe a limb or two, or just a couple of fingers). I’m imagining something like this, but hollow (or revealing parts of her brain and exposed face muscles underneath if you’re feeling gory):

[If we’re feeling extra mean we can have her become mute, blind, and/or deaf from it. (Which one’s more ironic: the girl never afraid to speak her mind becoming mute or the fashion designer becoming blind?)]

This would completely decimate Velvette’s self confidence, leaving her an emotional wreck who never leaves the tower and spends all day on her phone. All the stress over her appearance causes cracks to form all over the rest of Velvette’s body,  creating a vicious cycle.

I can picture Velvette wearing half masks (similar to Phantom of the Opera) made of porcelain (either her skin tone or stark white) to hide away the mess that is her face. For clothing she would exclusively dress in vhlong sleeves, pants and long skirts so she doesn’t have to see the cracks along her body. 

I tried to lean into your idea of Mindbroken!Velvette: Someone who’s lost control over her emotions and spends all day on the internet anonymously, searching for any scrap of approval from strangers.  

(If you want to have an overarching storyline we can say Valentino (accidentally) killed the Exorcists with angelic steel bullets. Now Heaven is searching for more missing Exorcists, debating if they should move up Extermination Day even sooner. Meanwhile Vox and Valentino try to the entire incident up, or else all of Heaven’s wrath will be upon them.) 

If she (somehow) makes it to Heaven I can see all the gaps between the cracks filling with gold or silver, to reference Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum). It would symbolize Velvette’s improvement mental state and acceptance of herself, scars and all.

Ooo, that's neat! I like the idea of Vel losing her voice, partly because it'd be a neat inversion given she's kind of a loudmouth, partly because she could use her phone/computer as assistive technology, and partly because @oculosadvocum's take on RAM Vox involves him losing his vision, so it'd be a cool little parallel (I guess Val would be deaf then...). It'd also be neat to have the Vees trying to avoid war with Heaven instead of advocating for it. Could allow for some interesting interactions with Carmilla and the other overlords.

BORMISH CUISINE

OVERVIEW

The Bormek Commonwealth was a Great Kingdom that collapsed long ago. Today, descendants of the Bormish people live in its ruins, now fractured into many small tribes. But in its glory days, this was one of the biggest and grandest civilizations in the world, and its delicious traditional cuisine is a testament to that, for these dishes still live on even in the post-collapse wasteland.

CORN ON THE COB Corn has always been a staple crop for the Bormish people, as it thrives in the soil that makes up the vast Buffalo Hills region. The Bormish refined this grain into all kinds of dishes, but they enjoyed it in its original form as well. Traditional Bormish corn on the cob is roasted in the husk, then drenched in butter, cheese, and chili powder.

DRAKBULOK A ball of fried cornmeal with some type of meat or vegetable in the middle. This dish originated with the ogre tribes in the redsnake canyons, who made them with hoopsnake meat. In their native tongue, the name of this dish translates to "dragon's bollocks". As the recipe spread around to new regions, different types of meat and even vegetarian-friendly versions began springing up.

CORN BREAD A sweet, dense bread made from cornmeal, animal fat, and sugar. In its traditional Bormish form, it's also made with hot chilies. In the kingdom's heydey, corn bread could be found in the hands of every traveler. This still proves true today after the kingdom's collapse, as its former citizens scour the wasteland with this convenient, portable snack.

PRICK ON A STICK Some type of sausage--usually beef--wrapped in a cornmeal dough coating, fried, and pierced on a stick. This food is hearty yet convenient to carry around, so it was very common to see on the street, especially at carnivals and other events. Its simplicity and deliciousness has carried it through to modern times, and it has even found popularity in foreign lands, particularly in Zareen Empire.

BORMISH FISH CAKE This dish is made from fish, potatoes, leeks, and hot chilies, mixed together and then baked or fried into a cake. Unlike most cakes, it is not a dessert, but instead eaten for dinner. This dish was obviously most popular around the kingdom's coastal regions, though as refrigeration technology improved, it quickly spread to inland regions as well. It's often eaten with pickles, potatoes, and mayonaise.

BERRY MASH Just as the name suggests, this dessert is made by mashing berries into a paste. Typically some kind of fruit and cream is mixed in too. The mash can be used as a sweet sauce or just eaten on its own. Its high sugar content makes it most popular with the region's fae peoples.

SHRUMETO A vegetarian dish that originates in the Brokenwood region. A shrumeto is a large roasted mushroom cap filled with mashed potatoes, diced tomatoes, and sometimes covered in cheese. Other vegetables and spices may be added too. The region's native peoples were notorious for growing giant mushrooms, and would cook shrumetos big enough for the whole village to share.

BEEDKI A potent whisky made from fermented corn. This drink is beleved to have originated with the centaur tribes of the Buffalo Plains region, but it quickly spread throughout the continent. It is most popular with heavyweight species like centaurs, ogres, and minotaurs. Beedki's popularity did not wane after the kingdom's collapse--rather, demand for it only surged higher, and large-scale distilleries are still operating in the wasteland today.

POP CANDY This traditional Bormish candy is made by popping corn kernels and then dunking them in honey, caramel, or maple syrup. Wherever there are smiles and laughter, there is usually pop candy, for this food was a staple at circuses, concerts, and social gatherings. Pop candy even survived the kingdom's collapse and carried many refugees through hard times.
