i made some printable sumo-navi's based on a scene in the anime. where count zap and mr match were playing paper sumo

basically its a simplified version of origami sumo, I'll toss some explanations on how to fold them (and a lil extra work for elecman) under the cut

I felt like the one page size was a little small so thats why i made a two page version as an option.

note, i took the tutorial pics with a prototype version so it looks a little different. ive made thicker outlines/bigger outer borders for the final version

so fold it in half along the red line! They're made symmetrical because the middle crease is how it stands (rip protomans sword and searchmans gun)

then you cut either along the lineart or use the guide line if you're worried about cutting too close to ur lil buddy

open up the navi and fold up the triangle (this is for stability)

this is how he should look after you refold him

and whichever way youve cut him you should be ready to fight now!

underneath here is specific instructions for putting Elecmans back piece on.

as with before fold along the red line (this one doesnt have an outer border to cut out since itll need to squeeze in)

also make a small cut on elecmans back by going juuust along the edge of the fold.

insert the tab into the cut you made and tape it down and then youre all ready!

my special lads but at that size it was clear when cutting i did need a bigger outline since some of those spots were tight squeezes.

John Lennon Paper Doll (part 1)

One of the larger projects @the-paper-apricot worked on for the zine was a paper doll of John. We planned to include photos of the finished doll, and a printable pattern so you could make your own! (We’ll upload the printable version soon). We chatted a lot about the artistic merit of the project, and we planned to include a short essay on the ideas we discussed.

That essay was never written, but here are the main points we wanted to include:

Cutting out and dressing paper dolls is traditionally seen as an activity for girls. As such they are treated as frivolous and lacking substance. There is an interesting interplay between this and the idea that the Beatles were discovered by, and beloved of, young girls before they were ever taken seriously by adult men (this is hyperbole, but you know what we mean)

An early title for the White Album was A Doll’s House (mentioned by Ian MacDonald in Revolution in the Head), inspired by the Ibsen play of the same name. In the play Nora tells her husband: “And you have always been so kind to me. But our home has been nothing but a playroom. I have been your doll-wife, just as at home I was papa’s doll-child; and here the children have been my dolls.” Perhaps the Beatles felt that they had been someone’s playthings.

Andy Warhol played with paper dolls, a fact which we thought added something to the discussion about gender. From an interview with Glenn O’Brien in 1977: GLENN O’BRIEN: What was your first work of art? ANDY WARHOL: I used to cut out paper dolls.

John was interested in his own relationship with gender. "I look at early pictures of meself, and I was torn between being Marlon Brando and being the sensitive poet - the Oscar Wilde part of me with the velvet, feminine side. I was always torn between the two, mainly opting for the macho side, because if you showed the other side, you were dead." Tony Bramwell referred to Brian Epstein's home as "that little doll’s house" in his book, although that view wasn't necessarily shared by any of the Beatles.

We were going to make a comparison with the sleeve artwork for Sgt. Pepper, and especially with the insert sheet of cardboard cut-outs that came with it. The idea that the stand-up cut-outs of the band should help the fans take part in the project of Sgt. Pepper as an art ‘event’ seemed especially pertinent.

@the-paper-apricot began work on this doll last spring, shortly after beginning her paper doll pop project. 

In part 2 we'll share some photos of the finished doll, and part 3 will include a paper doll of John and patterns of his outfits that you can print and cut out! ✂️

Hi there~ Of course I'd be willing to share! 🥰

I'm using downloadable printables from [Peanuts Planner Co.] and printing them on [these precut and pre-hole punched personal sized inserts]

However–! I'm very picky about my paper, and this paper is only just ~sort of okay~ for fountain pen imo (and I'm not willing to give up my Pilot Vanishing Point pen or De Atramentis Document Ink in "Urban Grey" for anything lmao).

I'm actually looking into buying some Cosmo Air Light or Tomoe River Paper personal inserts from [Paper Penguin Co.] once they come back from their break! I've gotten some TN inserts from them previously and quite liked them so I think I'll be pretty satisfied once I get my hands on better paper 🤌

Then one of my favorite things for my planner so far is actually these project manager inserts from Plotter [here's links for them from the Plotter USA site as well as from Atlas Stationers].

I'm currently using one to contain all my project and style guide notes for the fancomic I'm drawing and another is being used to hold all my notes, ideas, and product doodles for my plans to delve back into some light freelancing for 2024.

I hope this helped! Peanuts Planner Co. digital printables have been my go-to for years whenever I find myself in ring planners, but I've only just started trying out precut/pre-punched inserts to print on for the first time which has saved me a ton of hassle and has sorta let me overcome my laziness when it comes to planner setup a bit lol 💗

I was already very happy with the little pocket sized Filofax I bought on eBay to hopefully save me money in the long term on expensive dated planners, since the refills are cheap as chips once the upfront cost of the binder itself is taken care of, and it'll last me for potentially decades since I got a genuine leather one, but I have recently realised I don't even need to buy the official inserts because there are any amount of free printable ones online AND ALSO I can just make my own on Affinity Publisher to look however I want and then print them out for the price of printer paper and toner.

General guidelines

All works must be clearly inspired by or based on some aspect, narrative etc. of Greek mythology.

Contributions can't be fandom-based, but don’t have to stick to mythological 'canon'. You can send in AU works, for example.

No AI is allowed.

Mixed media (comic pages, illustrations) are allowed. See specific rules for these in the artist's guidelines section.

Submissions close on November 18th in the evening, CET. Late submissions will be considered IF an email is sent beforehand & acknowledged.

Writer's guidelines

Works can be any kind of writing. If you want your work to keep a specific visual shape, please specify it in your submission email.

You can submit in any language, as long as you provide an English translation.

Individual works must be 1600 words or less. Total word count for all works cannot be over 4000.

Up to 4 works can be sent in.

Use a standard font, size 12.

NSFW works are not allowed. Foul language, ludity, nudity and violence are allowed if not excessive.

Previously published works are allowed as long as you hold the rights to them.

Artist's guidelines

Works can be any printable format, and if in colour have to be greyscale-friendly.

Physical works are allowed in a high quality format.

Works should easily fit in a A5 page format.

You can send in up to 6 comic or fully illustrated pages - these must be 1748 x 2480px. If you want your text to be placed in a specific way over an illustration, please reach out by November 1st to solaracheron@gmail.com. C:

How to format your submission

Briella’s Winterfest Baking 21: Birthday Cake

Sul Sul, Gerbits. Today is a very special day for the Flores-Ponder household. We are celebrating not one, but two birthdays. Yes, Christian and Christopher are aging up into children.  

Today we are going to be making an Italian Cream Cheese Cake. They both looked at pictures online and decided that this was the cake that they both wanted and because we wanted them to have two cakes, I am going to be making two of the same cake. 

For the cake you are going to need:

butter

shortening

sugar

5 eggs that are separated

vanilla

flour

baking soda

buttermilk

shredded coconut

chopped nuts.

The recipe will be down in the description below, with the measurements.

For the frosting, you will need:

cream cheese

butter

confectioners’ sugar

vanilla

more chopped nuts.

The recipe calls for pecans, but I made this cake with walnuts and it tasted really really good. 

The first thing you are going to do is preheat the oven to 350 degrees. You need to grease and flour three 9-inch baking pans. I used two cake bans. But just remember that this recipe is designed for 3 baking pans, so the baking time is going to be longer. 

Grab a large bowl, you are going to cream the butter, shortening and granulated sugar until it is light and fluffy. You are going to beat in the egg yolks and vanilla.

Combine the flour and baking soda, in a separate bowl, add this to the creamed mixture; alternatively with the buttermilk. Beat mixture until just combined. Stir in coconut and the chopped nuts. 

In another bowl, you are going to beat the egg whites until they are stiff but not dry. Slowly fold in one-fourth of the egg whites into the batter. Then fold in the rest of the remaining whites. After the egg whites are mixed into the batter, you are evenly going to pour it into the prepared pans.

Bake the cakes until a toothpick or knife inserted in the center comes out clean. For three layers the recipe says it is going to take 20-25 minutes. If you have two layers it is going to take approximately 40-45 minutes. After the cakes come out clean you are going let them cool in their pans for 10 minutes. After that you are going to put them onto a wire rack so that they can cool completely.

Now onto the frosting. Gerbits, you need to beat the cream cheese and butter together until it is smooth. Beat in the confectioner's sugar and vanilla until fluffy. You are going to stir in your chopped nuts. You are going to spread the frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake. And refrigerate it before eating. That way the cake is cooled before eating.

This was a lot prettier than the carrot cake that I did a while ago. Either way, both of these cakes were fun. I am having a lot of fun doing this Winterfest baking. Even though Winterfest is over, I feel like I am going to be making a lot of baking videos in the future. I hope that you enjoy and have fun watching these videos.
