Art printing tips for beginners

Make your canvas size the largest you think you'll print (if you're using raster, meaning pixels compared to vector). Scaling down is easy. Scaling up is much harder without losing quality.

Use at least 300 ppi (pixels per inch) for all art. I do this with art I don't plan to print just in case I want to in the future.

Use CMYK color mode when you send your files to the printer. Bright colors are going to be dulled if you're using basic CMYK.

The white in your art is only going to be as white as the paper you print on. White ink is not common in basic CMYK printing.

Paper can make a good project 20x better. Never underestimate the power of choosing the right paper for your prints.

DO TEST PRINTS!!!! (especially if you're printing a large batch)

Printing itself is an art form and it can take practice and effort to master it.

The left is set to plain paper (i forgot to change it)

The right is set to high gloss. You can hardly see any of the linage with the naked eye.

Useful for making prints or printing photos.

Export Billboards | Hoardings Signages from Illustrator | Exporting Large Scale Print Files

Exporting or preparing large-scale print files can easily take up to 2 to 3 GBs if done wrong. Comparatively smaller file sizes can save lots of stress moments while sharing files with the printer, moreover, it provides more control and higher quality print. The technique you are about to learn in this video can be used to create & export billboards/hoardings/signages from Illustrator while keeping the smallest file size.

This technique is mainly used for printing large-scale billboards, hoardings, signages, and streamers for advertising or promotional purposes.

Tools that you’ll need are Adobe Illustrator or any other vector-based graphic application, Adobe Photoshop & a little bit of mathematics.

Create your file using this simple formula; “final size in feet” = “final size in inches”. For example; 60ft = 60 inches, 45ft = 45 inches & 20ft = 20 inches

i think that leather bags are so absolutely adorable. but i've been seeing leather bags around my social media feeds a TON lately and they've all been adorned with a lot of metal. me personally, i rly love the maximalist look that these purses have with all their charms and keychains and metal pieces.

LEOPARD PRINT ;

by far my absolute FAVORITE 2024 fashion trend bcuz to me, leopard print never EVER went away. its literally the best and its so CUNT. leopard print is not just a statement, like u can make it work as an outfit in itself. and idk it just radiates confidence and video vixen vibes and im absolutely living for that.

CINCHING THE WAIST ;

i love cinching my waist when wearing dresses that dont automatically mold to my body. ofc it depends on the type of dress and the look that im going for but i LOVE to show off my figure with cinching my waist so im loving this fashion trend.

i also think its rly interesting when the belt ur using to cinch ur waist is on the larger side, like those BIG belts, thats so so cute. and to me it just gives a rly boho vibe which is also trending in 2024 according to one of my main sources. its so fall and i can't wait to keep doing it.

SHOUJO GIRL AESTHETIC ;

think hachi from nana. the shoujo girl trend is absolutely adorable and def second favorite for this year. things that really encapsulate the shoujo girl aesthetic include…💬🎀

i've seen this EVERYWHERE and i love it. it looks like a jellyfish kind of and its giving JELLYFISH PRINCESS. not only does it add dimension to the clothing and to the outfit as a whole, but it does so while still maintaining the soft look. some pieces on my wishlist that incorporate the ruffles on clothing trend are shown below.

Large Format Illustrations in Photoshop: How High of Resolution Do You Need?

This video is about using Photoshop for Large Format Illustrations and Murals. When illustrating for large formats in raster based apps like Photoshop or Procreate, how high of resolution do you need to use? Do you need to work in 300 dpi? How big are the files for large format illustrations? Are they giant?

i just wanted to pop in and say that you just seem so brimming with life and emotion and color and i was wondering how you generated it all because golly, that's a lot of personhood. excellent work. keep being vast

oh thank you! this was really lovely to read & it brightened what’s otherwise been a little bit of a shit week. so, just for you, i wrote up a how-to.

a 10-step guide to being vast:

step 1: be a person with a complex & unique way of experiencing the world (you have already achieved this!)

step 2: be willing to say yes to anything* once. maybe even twice, to make sure the first time wasn’t a fluke. it will be hard and you won’t always like it, but it will be worth it.

*with consideration for your health & safety, of course. but this step is about getting you outside of your comfort zone. it’s okay to be uncomfortable.

step 3: spend time with the world. go to all sorts of places and do all sorts of things. (this does not require money, only creativity and courage.) pay attention to what happens around you. notice the big picture and the small details. look for beauty in everything.

step 4: feel what it’s like to be yourself. the sensations, the emotions. sit with them. experience them. give them names. make friends with them—even the uncomfortable ones. this is the hardest and most painful step, but also the most important in my experience. i wish i could promise that you’ll stop being sad, or afraid, or angry. that doesn’t happen. but you’ll grow into someone who’s also joyful and brave and kind. i can promise that.

step 5: try to be the best version of yourself whenever you can. remember that the best version of yourself in this moment is not always the same as in every other moment. have grace for yourself when you don’t succeed—because your best self right now would have grace for your past self’s mistakes. figure out how to take good care of yourself & do that.

step 6: ask “how?” and “why?” about everything. even if the only person you ask is yourself & your duckduckgo searchbar. don’t stop until you get an answer that makes sense. teach yourself how to do things. do them badly so that you can do them well.

step 7: practice drawing connections. now that you know these two things, how are they related? now that you have these two skills, how can you use them together? this is a tough skill, but it’s critical to being an active force in your life.

step 8: make friends with interesting people (this will happen naturally as you work through these steps). and then, be vulnerable. text first. love hard, even when it hurts. let them be vulnerable too. life is too short to hold things back. remember that nothing is required, but everything is permitted, and you get to make your life look however you want. above all, be kind. not nice—kind. and remember to be kind to yourself, too. repeat step 5 as often as necessary. it will be necessary, and that’s okay.

step 9: tell me* about all of it. get really specific. if you don’t have the right words, look them up. if it’s funny or an emergency you can make up new ones that feel right.

*this is a genuine offer. i would love to hear about it all. but it could also be your journal/therapist/best friend/cat/followers who read the tumblr tags. just make sure you put it outside of you somewhere so it doesn’t get stuck.

step 10: congrats! you’re a vast, complicated, interesting person who’s brimming with life and emotion and color!

Nano-3D printed material as light as styrofoam, 5× stronger than titanium

Researchers at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering have created nano-architected materials stronger than any solid material, but lighter than a feather.

In a new paper published in Advanced Materials, a team describes how they made dream nanomaterials with properties that offer a typically conflicting combination of exceptional strength, light weight, and customizability. The approach could be applied to a wide range of applications - automotive, architecture, aerospace, and much more.

Manufacturing technology like this will revolutionize the world - imagine being able to print out the strongest, lightest gear someone might need, on a moment's notice, to tackle any task [your character] might face. All they'd need is a 3D nano-printer (in this case, a two-photon polymerization type) in their workshop and the right printing materials (in this case, a form of carbon).

Nano-architected materials are made of tiny building blocks or repeating units measuring a few hundred nanometers in size - a human hair is more than 100× thicker than the lattice structures pictured above. These building blocks (in this case made of carbon) are arranged in complex 3D structures called nanolattices.   

This is also the technology we've needed in order to begin building space elevators to get past expensive, dangerous rocket tech.
