Yesterday, we went on an amazing journey of finding a demo and playing in an early 90's mecha anime-style setting.

Hi Rosie! Tell us about a videogame you wish was more well-known
Hi WinWin ^^ I've talked about it here before but I think a lot about Robot Alchemic Drive (RAD) for the PlayStation 2... I didn't play a lot of it because it was pretty difficult but basically it's this game where you play as a teenager heir of a giant robot defense company and you need to control the robot from outside to defeat aliens
Tumblr media
so instead of a regular mecha game, you have to position yourself somewhere both safe for you and somewhere where you can see your robot well enough to command it, and then you have to use the robot by moving the arms and legs and weapons independently, much like you would with an actual remote controller instead of being inside a cockpit.
it's really fun in concept and I adore its idea so much that I really hope I'll play it more. but I never see anyone talk about it! even in the realm of mecha games, the PS2 already has plenty of stuff like the Armored Core 3 trilogy, Front Mission 4 and 5, and even Steambot Chronicles that gets more attention (though this is probably deserved)
Robot Alchemic Drive is just one of those games that I recommend for everyone that is able to play it, just on the basis of "even if you wouldn't like this, you deserve to find out how it feels in your hands at least once" which is a sentiment I don't see expressed a lot in video game discussion (I also say this a lot about Ridge Racer Type 4 to be fair)

I love RAD (Robot Alchemic Drive) so much, it's far from being one of my favorite games, but I absolutely love the scale of everything! I genuinely cannot think of other mecha games where you actually feel the SIZE of the mecha, a lot of other mecha games feel as if you could just replace the characters with normal people (with the exception that they can fly)
RADs camera can be pretty cool at first, however I wish there was an option for an overhead camera for the various mechs. Yes, you can position the hero/player on top of the mech, but then you risk being knocked off. I am aware that I said that I love the scale, though the camera, while realistic and portraying the mechs as actually HUGE, can be annoying when you have to find the perfect rooftop to get on top of. Other than that, it is very fun :)
I also love Shadow of the Colossus for the exact same reason. And in my opinion, I love just about every colossus in that game EXCEPT for the underground one. However my favorites would have to be the first and the flying one.
My memory is a but hazy with Shadow of the Colossus as I've last played it about 2 years ago, and I am a bit early on in RAD, but I think I'm near the middle. I've recently gotten Shadow of the Colossus from ebay though so I'll definitely replay it, I didn't finish it on pc.
