What year does synergized take place?

There is no set year, but it takes place sort of in the mid-2000s, at least technology-wise for humans. Aesthetically, it's somewhat a mix of multiple decades.

I set the technology at the mid-2000s for two main reasons. One a lot of my inspirations for this project are shows/comics from around that time, and two, the major reason I don't want to write smart phones or modern type social media. I don't find it fun to write (mostly modern social media integration), and what is considered modern changes so fast. No matter how up-to-date I try to keep it, the nature of a long-term project like this, it will fall behind anyway, so why not set it slightly in the past where I already know we're human technology is at and will go...

I kinda got a light alt-history thing going on where no real-world brands, cities, or countries are name-dropped. It feels pretty close to our world, but occasionally, a character will mention something like "at least Earth only had one world War" or how theirs a town that and all the people living in it mysteriously all turned into solid metal like 300 years ago, also it just a tourist attraction you can just visit now or religions/holidays being lil different from the real-world ones, the vibes are definitely east coast America, and it is sorta set there but it is definitely not a 1 to 1 with the real world (sorta how Steven universe handled things)

So I’ve had this theory about the cycle and Falke for a while and I haven’t gotten to discuss it much so, tumblr.

Here be spoilers.

Many of you have probably encountered THIS Reddit thread “Regarding Falke,” but there’s a comment at the bottom that I found really interesting. It starts a little out of touch, but then they suggest that Ariane could be using her bioresonance to connect to Falke, using Falke as a kind of amplifier. She’s searching for Eslter, telling Elster to wake up, and using Falke to do it.

This could account for Falke’s appearance in relation to Ariane, but also her blurring of Elster’s memories with her own as she connects with Elster after Elster. I liked that idea a lot, but I’ve been building on it in my head. What if something more mundane and sinister is going on at the same time? What if Ariane is using Falke as an amplifier, and since Falke is connected to so many Replikas, that’s accounting for the illness and the fact that Elster keeps getting woken and called to Ariane.

But then on top of that, there is the “dig holes secretly are digged where the earth’s pores ought to suffice” line, which is from lovecraft. That points to an eldritch horror, and is one of the most direct connections besides the red eye. But the digging is what gets me. It’s literally a mine. And they’re digging, ostensibly for resources, but maybe they woke something up they didn’t understand. Something that could connect to Falke as well. Then when Falke became an amplifier and the cycle of Elster started, the Eldritch Something made the cycle even stronger, and it in turn grew stronger, “Learning to walk that ought to crawl.”

And now you say, wait, but it can’t be literal because they’re in the Penrose program, so they would be way far away from Leng by the time they crash. And I say, yeah, but we know Ariane modified the length of the cycles on the ship, so there’s no real way to tell how far they travelled in realation to where they are. And there’s more than one Penrose in the program. Some of them would have found other worlds. Some of those worlds would have been good for settlement. Some of them would have been good for resources. And a mine needs to be run by A Falke and AN Adler not THE. So what if they’re at Serpinsky, but A Sperpinsky, on a moon or planet that isn’t Leng. And this one was different, because it had something on it the republic didn’t expect. As the republic pushes out, becoming an empire, they face consequences.

There are some other things that come up for me. One is how Ariane stays alive. She’s been in a clearly broken Cryopod, for an untold amount of time, possibly decades or centuries if we look at the quantity of dead Elsters. In red liquid. Blood? Or is the eldritch horror keeping her alive to strengthen itself?

If Ariane is killed, as in the Promise ending, how does the cycle continue? Unless there IS an outside force.

One more Falke thing. In the thread, there are posters who say that Falke shows up in the lines of Arianes and Elsters in the false ending, and turns her head when called. I watched it, and I couldn’t see her in Elster’s. But I could see someone who could be her in Ariane’s. If it’s true, it would have really interesting implications.

whether its in shipping context or not, i've always found them in relation to eachother so intresting, just how theyre so similar yet so diffrent, with such strikingly diffrent ways of thinking and perceiving reality, and i think you've really been doing justice for the intresting dynamic they could have 🙏

they really are just two really broken people who only have eachother when it comes to someone who they can truly realate to 😔

So we all know the jasper-lapis fusion, malachite, right. And how UT was a very toxic relation ship.

Yup, seems pretty toxic to me.

But also, malachite, as a rock, is very toxic when it comes into long contact with water. It would release copper compounds that are toxic when inhaled or something.

Malachite is very soft, thus making it easier to dissolve in water. Which in this case could mean that jasper and lapis's realation ship it not strong at all making them into an unstable fusion.

Russell x Sunil headcannons?

Russunil, huh? Nah, I think we should just call them SUSsell *vine boom sound*. Let's go backaroo:

perhaps the ship that has the most quiet moments that are mind you very healthy and welcomed. Just sitting together, chilling, not interacting with one another, but being in the same place, doing their own stuff. It calms them down

Sunil got some of that charisma from being around Russell so much. It's not a lot, but experiencing first-hand Russell's leadership and organization skills got to him and boosted his confidence a bit

every now and then while they are in a relationship Russell tries to lose some weight but it never works because Sunil spoils him with sweets. It's not that he's sabotaging him on purpose or anything, he just wants to make Russell happy and just does that impulsively

they both use notes a lot, though in Russell it's more visible. What I'm trying to say here is that, yes, they leave each other little affctionate notes, sometimes in visible places like the fridge, or sometimes in the more unexpected ones that shall be found later like in the other's wallet

Russell can be a cocky sometimes, saying stuff like "Your amazing boyfriend has arrived" or "Of course you needed to me do it right, Sunil", don't worry though, it's all half-playful

they have one, estabilished hugging position, at least when they're standing. Russell wraps his arms around Sunil's waist and rests his head near Sunil's shoulder while Sunil wraps his arms around Russell's shoulders and kinda rests his head on the side of Russell's head. Why's it like that? Well, Russell is just not a fan of standing on his toes just to hug most of the time

Aaand now we're getting into some of the shippy songs! So this one is another "struggling with The Urge" song, but specifically it's one wherin Page is talking to Astarion about them and telling him that having him be there for her helps. Specifically the line from this one that I really like for them is just "We are one in the same," because genuinely one of the reasons Astarion and resisting!Durge work so damn well together is because they've experienced some similar struggles and can relate on a level that few can.

This is another one of those internal struggles between darkness and light songs, specifically with an emphasis of having to make a conscious effort to change and not really knowing if you can, and if you can, then not knowing if that drastic of a change would essentially unmake you or not.

3 - The Cave by Mumford and Sons

Okay so this song is one part shipping song and one part "taking control of your own life and destiny" song. Kind of more the latter with a tinge of the former. Basically in a nutshell it's about Page deciding to consciously defy her whole heritage and "purpose" and decide for herself what kind of person she wants to be, but also those first few lines of the song really sound like something Page could be saying to Astarion, again realating to him and his own struggles, and repeatedly saying in the refrain "I won't let you choke on the noose around your neck," i.e. she refuses to stand by and see him repeat the cycle of abuse by ascending.

Also in the second verse the lines "So tie me to a post and block my ears / I can see widows and orphans through my tears / And know my call despite my faults and despite my growing fears" LOOK ME IN THE EYES AND TELL ME THAT'S NOT PERFECT FOR THE SCENE WHERE DURGE IS POSSESSED AND TRIES TO KILL THEIR LOVE INTEREST YOU CAN'T

Just a few Smiley HCs, not a big long post just some I swear

He's a demon. He makes it everyone's problem

He's like 450 years old. Everyone keeps asking about major historical events and his response "I wasn't there I was doing other things"

Sometimes he has a reason, like that he was several hundreds of miles away and very young at the time, other things not so much

He got invited to the Boston Tea Party by his brother and didn't go because "He didn't hate tea or British people enough to care"

He did see Alexander Hamilton get shot in person though

Oh yeah also he has a brother. They're not actually realated they were both just born around the same time and got adopted by the same person and stayed together even after they left their pride

Oh speaking of which Smiley's species is weird. I won't give details (I'll put those in another post) but he's actually this weird shadow thing that looks like a weird mix of Slenderman and Pride from FMA. He possesses human bodies because he's not yet strong enough to exist in his true form in the 3rd dimension for more than a few minutes

They also reproduce through a weird version of mitosis meaning no one knows who's related to who and everyone is adopted. Sometimes his species forms large groups called prides but it's also common for them just just roam around either aline or with a few friends

Smiley is unfortunately alone, having not seen his brother for awhile

He has EJ though. They're queer platonic

Smiley's asexual because his entire species is. His ability to feel romantic attraction is debatable. He likes EJ but he's not sure if he considers them in love

He definitely feels something for Nurse Ann though. They met after the Civil War when Smiley first started killing his patients. Ann had a massive crush on him and Smiley decided to manipulate her, eventually killing her as well but fkr the time they worked together he definitely felt something towards her and said feelings have grown over time

Ann on the other hand was resurrected by Zalgo to hunt Smiley's species as the whole species had stopped listening and also they eat other demons sometimes and several individuals had wronged him personally so he just decided to have someone get rid of them and Ann was the perfect candidate he decided

150 years later the undead demon hunter x the demon who killed her ship is... going strong? There's alot of tension between them. Smiley still loves tormenting her and she keeps falling into the "I can fix him mindset" but at the same time They're both really horny for eachother in every way imaginable

His sense of humor is fucked. Everything is funny to him. His favorite movie is Repo! The Genetic Opera and he adamantly believes it is a comedy (That movie contains gratuitous murder scenes with silly sound effects, for context, and he can't get enough of it) His weird blue liquid is only blue because Zydrate is blue and he wanted his to be blue too, so he put food coloring in it

Smiley acts mostly human but alot of the time he can be found acting just a little... off...

He stands weird. He normally keeps his hands shoved in his pockets and tries to stand straight but sometimes he forgets and ends up walking around hunched over with his arms held weird. He alwaus goes up the stairs on all fours

He makes weird noises alot. Generally he only makes them around other demons (EJ has begun to understand what each of his clicks and and cries meam) but sometimes when he experiences alot of emotion at once he'll let a chirp or two slip

He lays weird. He's super flexible and constantly bitches about having to follow the laws of anatomy (in his true form he has no bones, organs or anything else. He's an amorphous shapeshifter) He sleeps and lays curled up like a cat

Also he purs. He's very very cat like but only around certain people

He eats alot too. His metabolism is super fast and he's got dangerously low body fat. Of course at the same time he's a picky eater and prefers his own home grown and caught food. He will eat a few store bought snacks (mostly sweets. Not a particular fan of too much sugar but he will enjoy a cookie from time to time)

He's an amazing farmer. He has a greenhouse where he grows all sorts of things. Tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, spices, everything. He also raises fish, crab, shrimp and cray fish via hydroponics. He also has chickens and a regular plot of farm land that some of the others help him look after

He grows weed too. Alot of it. Smiley fucking loves doing drugs. Back when heroine was in cough medicine he woyld sit in his clinic on a slow day and drink it. Unfortunately drugs are harder to come by now a days. The only stuff he has easy access to is Salvia which is effectively LSD the plant but phycodelics have other effects on his species so he can't use them. He doesn't drink either, he has a very sharp sense of smell and cannot stand being around alcohol so he just gets high and smokes cigarettes. Seriously he smokes like two packs a day and you'd be hard pressed to catch him sober

He's also the masnion weed dealer. He gives it out "for free" but if he gives you weed you owe him something now, so it’s best to have something on hand to trade with him

Also gives people vegetables. He grows way too many for him to use all by himself. This has gained him the nickname Dr. Pepper

Other nicknames include Doc Smiles, Dr. Feel Bad and The Good Doctor Smiley, the latter is widely knkws to be an oxymoron

He is an actual good doctor knowing a wide array of modern medicine, home remedies and old healing techniques form back in the day. He just like to kill people though. Demon instincts and shit

He gives alot of his patients organs tk EJ, he alsk has a special rule about no eye stuff which he claims is for EJ's sake (Eye stuff brings back very bad memories for him) but Smiley cannot handle seeing things happen to eyes either

Smiley is very manipulative. He's spent a long time around humans and knows how to manipulate them. Most demons are actually veey honest creatures however Smiley is not above lies and deception to get his way

If he can't manipulate someone into giving him what he wants he either gets aggressive (While he may appear frail he isn't, thanks to his demonic influence over his physical body he's quite strong. Also tall. He's 6'4 making him the tallest person with a human body in the mansion. Also his teeth are super sharp snd he will bite) or he tries to guilt trip

450 year old demon claiming he should get the last slice of pizza because he's neurodivergent and minor

Which is somewhat true. He's not fully developed yet as a demon and still has about 200 years before he will be, but the actual age he acts is determined by his physical body. His current human body is 38. Not a minor. He dose have PTSD though from being an army medic in several wars along with some mild abandonment issues

Gosh, that's quite a few blorbos!! Okay, lemme go through them one by one...

Eddie Brock, Sonyverse (bc I've already did comic!Eddie here)

He's the one character I was completly meh on, but his popularity in the fandom is making me dislike him, because ofc I cannot escape him in realation to anything Venom. "Ohhh he's so weird an quirkyyy" shut up, comic Eddie would eat him and clean his teeth with his vocal chords.

...sorry, that was needlessly mean.

Works well in what they were trying to do with him in the movie. Personally, I couldn't care less.

Venom (like Venom Symbiote? I assume Venom Symbiote)

Comic:

"Oh, but Anise," I hear you say, "How can Venom Symbiote, the star character of Venom comics and a major Spider-man villian/ally/ex/it's complicated be underrated and don't have enough canon?"

How often it's perspective is the focus. How often the Symbiote is explored and developed as a character. How often it gets to be the main character of the story and not just a cool suit.

It deserves so much better than this.

Movie:

...look I just wasn't that enamored with Venom movies. Their Symbiote is okay. They are fun. More fun than Eddie, but work well with him. The fact they betrayed their whole kind for one sweaty loser? Hilarious.

Anyway.

Peter Parker (comic)

So the thing with Peter is that he scares me.

I'm not a hardcore Spider-man fan. The amount of comics simply horrifies me and induces a freeze reaction in me. I know Peter, but do I really know Peter? Who's to say. I don't dare sharing strong opinins about him, because there's a high chance I might be wrong and totally misguided.

Also I want the endgame Spider-man ship to be Peter x forever singlehood. I think that would be the funniest option on the table, given how much he gets around. Everybody around him settles down and has their neat little lives except for Peter, who gets banned from all polycules. That's what I mean by potting against them. I think that would be hilarious.

Peter B. Parker

Oh god, I am so, so sorry. I like Peter! He's really, really neat! I like him a lot! It's just not the brainrot level of liking, you know? I think he was written very well, and works great in both movies. I guess I'd like to see more of him in the second one, but that's about it. Nothing I would change there.

Deadpool (I mean he' pretty similar in both comics and the movies, no?)

Now, I'm not up to date with what Wade has going around currently, so I might be off base! But here's the thing; I personally like Wade best when he's a tragic character in a semi-serious setting. I really liked the early Wade where he's straight up unsettligh at times, and you can really see that under the mask of humor and sillyness there's a real, hurting, BAD person. When it's a tragi-comedy. No cartoon logic, no lol so random humor, little fourth wall breaking. Actual human drama, with real stakes and character arc. For me, Wade is best when he tries to be a better person, but struggles so, so, SO hard because he just isn't, and messes up, and hates himself, and tries again, and again, and again. Over the years, Deadpool became more of a meme character; if it's funny, it's gonna happen! And while it's not BAD, and there's nothing wrong with liking the more comedic approach to the character, that's just not the version of him I enjoy the most.
