Tuesday snippet

Thanks for the tag @heartofspells! I don’t have anything new from my main WIPs to share, but here's a snippet from my Remus/Regulus fic (that’s going to have some Prongsfoot as a side pairing). Regulus ends up in detention, and while Slughorn needs to go deal with an urgent situation, the unfortunate Remus as a Prefect has to stay behind in the classroom. Basically, Regulus is just a little shit to Remus.

"What the hell did you do to end up in detention?" Remus attempted to steer the conversation in another direction.   

"Whatever one usually does to end up in detention," Regulus replied vaguely. He glanced blankly at Remus before tilting his head. "Remus Lupin. Half-blood. Your father is a wizard, and your mother is a muggle, right?"   

Remus didn't bother answering the question. Regulus simply wanted to annoy him because it made his detention more interesting.  

"Too bad," Regulus remarked. "You're an excellent example of a perfectly dull and unexceptional person who is not special in any way. Your blood isn't pure, but you're not exactly a muggle either. You might as well be a smudge on the wall that no one cares to clean because it isn't noticeable enough."

"And you're a great example of a student who is just trying to avoid his responsibilities."  

"How the hell did my brother accept you as his friend? You're a nobody."  

Remus rolled his eyes. "Your insults are a bit lazy. To be honest, I would have expected more given what your brother is capable of."  

"You're just kissing his arse like the rest of your stupid little gang."  

Remus was about to snort when Regulus's next words struck him like a punch in the gut. 

"He'll never be yours." 

Something in the weight of his words made Remus shiver, as if the younger Black could see right through him. The wolf wasn't the only secret he carried, even though Regulus wasn't quite right about his love interest. 

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Remus answered coolly, making sure his expression didn't reveal anything. At least he hoped so.   

Regulus grabbed his quill and set it on top of the parchment. "Why, I mean, of course, that you're pining after him like some pathetic, lovesick lap dog."   

He picked up his wand from the table and swirled it once in the air, spelling the quill so it started to write sentences on the parchment by itself. Regulus returned his gaze to Remus, who was anxiously waiting for the final blow.   

"He only cares about Potter." Regulus spat out the last name with such contempt that Remus suspected he had personal reasons to despise James.   

"Funny, you sound jealous of your brother. I was under the impression that you no longer cared about what he does or who he hangs out with," Remus replied dryly, despite the fact that his heart rate had risen significantly and his temper was frayed.   

It took all of his energy to ensure that no one suspected what kind of beast lay beneath the surface. Aside from that, his romantic feelings were none of Black's concern. 

For a moment, anger flashed on Regulus's face until he calmed down and became indifferent. He stood up from his desk and wandered over to Slughorn's desk, pretending to be interested in the glass bottles filled with various coloured liquids on the shelf next to it.   

"Oh, I see," Regulus remarked, carefully picking up a small vial of sunshine-yellow potion in his hand. He tipped the bottle against the light like a potions master. "Your reaction suggests I may have been mistaken, after all. You're not interested in Sirius." He turned to face Remus with a lazy smile on his face. "I think you're into Potter."

Au where Remus produces music and writes really personal song lyrics but he can't sing so he hires Regulus to sing his songs for him and ultimately brings the brothers back together

Regulus Black was a guy in his early twenties with curly black hair and stormy grey eyes. He used to attend a private school in Scotland, one that only accepted the most special students. You could say that the experience itself was magical.

However he longed for someone who’s jokes he could laugh at, who didn’t mind him being quiet, who understood his humour and who would see through his icy exterior to who he really was.

I guess you could say Regulus wanted someone who was just right.

okay i've gone through different feelings on them tbh like it mostly depends on the situation but i enjoy them platonically! i think they can make for besties but also if they only know each other through sirius they don't ever get close like they gotta know each other outside of sirius to be good friends

but also in the horcrux hunt i enjoy when they are besties that smooch sometimes! haven't found any other instance of them kissing or anything where they're more than platonic that i've enjoyed and i don't go looking for it so that's where we land

i know we’re all fans of sirius grovelling (as he should) and can’t wait to read but i also hope james gives proper apologies too! when remus was like “i used to be your best friend too” 💔💔💔 how could you james!!! then later he’s like oh i knew the rumours were false 🤨hmmmm 🤨 i just want remus to know how loved he is 🥺

Moonwater idea:

Regulus and Sirius make up and start being more present in eachother’s lives(yay!)

Because of that, each of their group of friends start interacting more

One day, Sirius sees Regulus and Remus talking excitedly with eachother about a book they both like and BAM

He’s hit with one of the best ideas he ever had

What if… he set them up?

On his mind he thinks it’s perfect. Remus and Regulus have lots of things in common, Sirius loves them both, they would be very happy together and… they could go in double dates (you can decide with who he’s with, but I like to imagine it’s Gideon Prewett)

So Sirius recruits James and Peter to the operation “Romulus”

(“Wait” Peter says “Shouldn’t it be ‘Remulus’ then? Where did that ‘o’ came from?

“No, it’s ‘Romulus’. You know, because of ‘Remus and Romulus’”

“Are you sure of it, mate? That doesn’t make a lot of sense” James questions.

“Yeah” Peter agrees “Wouldn’t ‘Moonsekeer’ make more sense?”

“Ohh, that’s a very pretty name, Wormy”

“Right? Feels romantic”

“No, it’s my brother, my operation, so I decide the name and it’s ‘Romulus’”

“But-“

“‘Romulus”)

Anyway, the plan to get Remus and Regulus together starts and it’s very much on the style of those old movies of kids trying to set their parents up

(Tell me that Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap doesn’t remind you of Sirius. I dare you)

Anyway, the plan is in motion, but what they don’t know it’s that Remus and Regulus already like eachother, but are afraid that if they act upon this feelings they are going to ruin the growing friendship they have with eachother and their relationship with Sirius

Shenanigans happen, going from the basic ‘lock them up together in a room’ to ‘accidentally destroying a horcrux’ and yet, nothing of them getting together (well, a kiss happened, but they don’t know that happened, so the ‘Romulus’ group don’t think any progress was made)

It all cames to a lovely conclusion with baby Harry(yeah, they took THAT long to get together, but to be honest, they had to stop Voldy, so it kinda took some time of the planning) being the responsible for them to finally admit their feelings and start dating

(Harry was well rewarded with position of ring bearer in the wedding, along with baby Luna being the flower girl and his godfather eternal gratitude)

So while we're talking about Regulus.... I know you're a prongsfoot defender and I love you for that.

Thank you, I love Prongsfoot—I’m glad I am known as someone who ships them, although I would not describe myself as a defender personally—I just ship them because I think it’s hot 😅

I’m so very sorry, anon, but this sounds like two wet noodles. A bit too soft. I just don’t see them interacting in an interesting way. Doesn’t light my fire. It just seems like a ship of two followers and they would never have sex not because they’re ace (which sure, they could be) but because literally neither would ever make a move. And unfortunately, politeness doesn’t really do it for me—I’m from Minnesota and Minnesota politeness/nice just drives me bonkers.

Maybe it’s Regulus in general. To me, the problem with Regulus is that he just isn’t a fleshed-out character, and it’s hard for me to be like, “Oooh yeah baby,” y’know?

But uhhh if this is your rare pair, be my guest. You keep on doing you, bud.
