INNO BACKSTORY

⚠️CONTENT WARNINGS: death, abuse, torture, extreme violence, and many other sensitive topics! READ WITH CAUTION!!!!⚠️

Inno wasn’t born, he was created. 

There were fifty of them. Only two of them made it past the first few minutes…he was the only one that made it past a year. 

I-47—Inno Va’shin—and I-49 were the two that made it past the first few minutes. 49 was the other experiment. She was very kind, but she didn’t make it. 49 seemed to want to be friends with Inno…he didn’t…there was something ‘wrong’ with him when he was created. He had been created with low empathy and muffled emotions (not emotionless!). He followed orders without question and felt nothing when taking a life during those tests. 

But eventually, that started to change. Slowly. It was through 49. The more he interacted with her, the more he began to feel…something. And then during the test following that spark, he hesitated. He never hesitated before. 

The first strong emotions he felt were negative. The day after he hesitated in the test, he began to feel fear. When they hurt 49 for being excited for him, he felt anger. When he had to harm an innocent animal, he felt sad. 

But later, he felt more positive emotions. When he was around 49, he felt joy. When she gained wings like he had, he was excited. When she hugged him, he felt love. 

One day, the two of them were put through very harsh endurance tests. They would be drowned, set on fire, electrocuted, stuff that would normally kill a human, all to see how quickly they would heal or regenerate. Inno woke up the next day…49 did not. For the first time, he cried. And he didn’t know why. He felt grief. 

As for how he got out…there was this one member of the project, Dr. Solstone. She was the nurse for the scientists. She saw his suffering and wanted to do something about it. She got him out the doors of the facility…but he heard gunshots as he ran. When he heard them, he snapped and overblotted. He woke up surrounded by a few things; ink, blood, corpses…and Crowley. Apparently, he had heard the commotion and calmed Inno down after piecing together what happened.

Crowley offered to take him back to NRC until he could get on his feet, and Inno accepted. This was only a few days before the events of Twisted Wonderland…where a magicless student appeared.

I love all @bloo-the-dragon's mer works, and the SAMS Mer AU with Eclipse and Mer Ruin is no exception!

HAD to draw a lil homage to that latest lore share, of Ruin creating an egg for himself and Eclipse to raise together, and Eclipse dealing with the stress from a close call cuz Ruin ain't exactly in his prime.

Is all good tho, the baby Peas joining Ruin in the bath tub to snuggle as he rest, and Sol helps by comforting Eclipse while he watches over the newly laid mer egg under his care.

Nnnh, I love Bloo's story telling and illustrations so much!

Leafstar and Billystorm family!!

Leafstar takes after Leafpool a lot because I like them looking alike, but not exactly in terms of markings. She has a leaf-like tuft on her tail and is lean, muscular, and long-legged. She’s got a short-furred build to contrast with her big husband.

Billystorm is overweight and can crush you, but Leafstar loves burying herself into his huge plush of fur. He’s the equivalent of the huge dopey lumberjack dad. I like to imagine he’s probably a Norwegian Forest cat or something. 

Firefern is one of my favorites and she’s a nice blend of her parents. She’s lean like her mom with her father’s ginger fur and fluffy face and tail. She’s the energetic one of her siblings and wants to always be doing something. I wanted her design to reflect that spirited personality.

Stormheart is a tortie because ginger and gray isn’t a combo you really see, so I added white and that worked! She’s lean like her mom but has her dad’s huge fluffy chest. It’s also meant to go with her name being Stormheart. She looks the most like Leafstar of her siblings.

Harrybrook is more of a grayish-brown instead of gray and has more of his mom’s cream-colored fur. In Power of Twelve, he looks the same, but his name is instead Solstone because I erased the Sol being Harry storyline. Instead, Sol has always been Sol. I’m also a Marvel fan so hence where the name came from. He’s bigger like his dad, but everything else is his mom like his colors and eyes.

i’m thinking headcanons about how The Metropolis chugs along because it’s basically this corporate conglomerate where everything’s super congested and there are too many things to go see/do than work allows so the memes have GOT to be hits:

• surveillance state agent jokes (“...” “Stop staring at me, Risingsmoke.” “How do you know I’m not an agent sent from The Administration sent to observe you?” “Because, if you were, I think they should give you the pink slip because you totally fell asleep on our last three shifts.” “Or I wanted you to think I was asleep. Didn’t think about that, huh?” “I wish Cheesecake still worked here.”)

• catfolk doing the hand gesture for I’m Keeping My Eye On You as a greeting for the start of a shared shift/goodbye at the end of a shared shift instead of a handshake because it’s faster OR for when you see your coworker outside of work and it’s too late now to pretend you didn’t because you’ve made eye contact

What are some of the warrior cat names that you think are silly? I ask because the warrior cat website gave me the name Kitmoth.

I mean in my heart, every name is valid. That includes Kitmoth. Kitkit grew into a beautiful warrior and we should respect them for that. That doesn’t mean I have names I don’t like though. Just a disclaimer that this doesn’t mean I dislike the cat.

Dewnose: I really don’t like his name. I think what makes it worse is Snowbush gets crap for his name when his brother is right there.

Sparkpelt: This is simply because Sparkfire was right there. It could’ve been anything else like Sparkflight (after Squirrelflight) or Sparkstorm (after Sandstorm), but nope she just gets the -pelt suffix. Her name had so much potential and that’s why I dislike it.

Twigbranch: Because it should’ve been Twigshade as a parallel to Violetshine. Don’t fight me on this

Harrybrook: Out of pity because he has the unfortunate honor of being named after Sol, but getting the worse name. I wish his name was Solkit.

Slightfoot and Crouchfoot: I like how you can tell how good someone is at naming based on the warrior names that occur after they become leader.

Magic in the Solstones

The fabric of reality that makes up the world of Medea is a thing of broken threads and frayed knots. These “tears” in existence create openings into the Tempest, a plane containing an infinite and immense storm of magical energy. Some tears are natural; at times, the Tempest’s power tears its own way into reality, and warps objects or creatures. Others are created by mages: enterprising beings who seek to harness the magic of the Tempest.

Mages

A small portion of the inhabitants of Medea is born with an innate awareness of the Tempest’s power. These potential mages can feel rips in the tapestry of reality just as another being might feel a stone in his-or-her hand. Likewise, a mage is capable of ripping into the Tempest through a feat of willpower just as another may break a stone by a feat of strength. Among humans, mages are quite rare, but magically created races, such as the Endai and the Outcasts, have a near-universal awareness of the Tempest. Though some mages choose to never develop their inherent magical abilities, others make it their life’s pursuit. A mage can hone his-or-her Tempest powers alone (a practice more common among Wild Mages), but apprenticeships are usually more effective and less dangerous. An aspiring mage may elect to use the tempest through either rune magic or wild magic.

Rune Magic

In order to avoid the risks of being disintegrated by the Tempest due to a loss of focus or distraction while tearing into it, most mage use runes. A rune is an engraving capable of storing Tempest energy for a short time and channeling that energy into a specific effect (a spell) upon release. Rune magic requires patience and knowledge, but is quite versatile, as a studious rune mage should know runes or rune chains that can be used for a large variety of spells, mainly in manipulating energy or matter. The rune or rune chain carved into an object determines the form that the Tempest’s power will take when the spell is cast.

The object into which a rune is carved is unimportant. Some cultures favor stone (the Endai), other bone (the Midonai), clay, or wood. A rune is charged when a mage rips into the Tempest with the rune in hand and directs the outgoing energy into it. This requires a great deal of focus, and, depending on the amount of energy required to realize the spell, make take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. More experienced rune mages can better control the Tempest and thus charge runes more quickly. A mage casts a spell contained in a rune by again grasping it in his-or-her hand and using willpower to tear into the rune’s stored energy and not into the Tempest itself.

Runes can be recharged after use, but Tempest energy is volatile and cannot be contained for longer than a day. If a rune is left charged for too long, the magic within will burn through the object into which the rune is etched, letting the spell loose and destroying the object. Losing focus while charging a rune has the same effect.

Despite their many other cultural differences, every civilization on Medea uses the same runes, which suggests that there must be a common source of rune knowledge. There are many legends about the origin of runes, in which they are typically regarded as connected to the divine: given by, or stolen from, the gods. While the more basic runes are widely known, others are closely guarded secrets, lost in the ruins of Luz, or yet unknown.

Wild Magic

The unleashing of unfettered magical energy, directed only to a limited degree by a mage’s willpower alone, is wild magic indeed. Though this use of the Tempest’s power is exceptionally potent, it is not as widely used as rune magic due to the grand risks that it presents. A mage that loses focus while opening a rift in reality leading to an energy storm will destroy his-or-herself and everything nearby. Additionally, failed or out-of-control wild magic can cause the Tempest to warp nearby beings into magical monsters (demons) or create permanent Tempest magic effects on nearby objects.

Even with so many dangerous downsides, wild magic still appeals to some mages because of how powerful it is. It requires no preparation and no knowledge of runes; only strength of will is needed. It is not as versatile as rune magic, as it is nearly impossible to re-create a specific spell using wild magic, but the power to through blasts of Tempest lightning whenever you want is quite useful in combat. There are not many mages that choose to use wild magic, because its use asks for either a great measure of focus and willpower, or a ton of stupidity. Goblins love it.

1.) What does your guardian’s voice sound like? Is deep or high pitched? Does their voice sound smooth or is it raspy? Do you have a voiceclaim for them?

This is his current voiceclaim, but I have considered giving him a more Hawaiian accent. Though it makes sense his voice is unaccented because he relearned to speak by reading lips originally. His voice is smooth though a tad raspy at times with unfamiliar sounds (ie foreign words)

2.) What about their ghost’s voice? Does it sound more staticky than normal? Do they beep allot?

Pele’s voice is actually very smooth, the static is there but I would describe it as less than North!Ghost. 

3.) What is the backstory of your muse? Details can include everything from when they die in their first life to when their ghost revived them to the present. Have fun with this, but you might wanna make a separate post about it if you haven’t already made a post like this.

4.) What is their personality like? Do they get along well with other guardians or would they rather keep to themselves? What do other guardians like most about them?

Blaine is a paragon always doing what he believes is right no matter the cost. He loves being surrounds by others, and he gets along well with most people. I want to think that most Guardian’s like his sunny disposition. Blaine is kind and warm and joyful in the darkest times. 

5.) What is your guardian’s favorite feature on their body? Do they have tattoos and if so do they tell stories or is it just for fun?

Blaine’s is honestly his chest. Though he’ll never admit it. He has a metallic sun tattoo on his shoulder, and he’s debating getting a few more. 

6.) Where was your guardian rezed? Do they ever go back to visit that place? Has it had any impact on them since their revival?

Mars, he goes back at times but not often. He doesn’t remember why, so no it doesn’t. 

7.) How do they handle competition? When they play soccer, are they determined to kick the ball so hard it kills the other guardians or do they sit and watch?

Kick the ball so hard it kills other guardians. Although, he’s not that competitive. He just loves the game. 

8.) Can your guardian cook? If so, do they enjoy it? What is their favorite dish?

Oh! Blaine loves to cook and he’s quite the chef. His favorite food? Probably Pineapple poke cake

9.) Is your guardian romantically interested in another’s guardian? What is their ship name?

Ooooooh Blaine ships with rezragnarok‘s babs, some of cyluos‘s characters, and a few other ships that are being built <3 

10.) When they take a shower, how long do they stay in there? Do they use up all the hot water or do they let the water hit their backs and then step out?

Blaine’s pretty quick to shower, not wanting to waste too much time. 

11.) Does your guardian like swimming? How long can they hold their breath?

Blaine loves swimming and he can hold his breath for nearly a minute. 

12.) What are some of their quotes? What are they most known for saying? Do they have a catchphrase?

Positive things? 

13.) How do they feel about the NPCs (non playable characters like Zavala, Tess, Banshee)? Which characters do they adore the most?

They’re just people that deserve love and happiness. 

14.) How do they feel about guardians like Dredgen Yor, Toland, and Eris?

Eris: just a person that deserves love and happiness.

Blaine is slowly becoming deaf due to his sensorineural hearing loss. Pele can slow the process but not stop it. 

17.) What is their favorite sparrow to ride? Do they race their friends with it or cruise around instead? Where is their favorite place to drive the sparrow?

Any and everywhere 

18.) On what planet or moon do they like to and be by themselves? If they do this, what is the reason(s) begins why? For example, Ikora goes to Io for clarity and answers. Does your guardian go to this particular place for the same reason or to cool off and clear their head?

Mercury. He loves to be in the light of the sun

Blaine: *Picks up Haru* THIS BITCH EMPTY *Slam dunks him into trash* YEET!

20.) What are some of your favorite headcanons about your guardian?

Blaine collects shards of glass from old churchs in the EDZ to use for Glassworking. He makes little toys for children around the city including the one’s Griff helps

He also works on sparrows and ships helping out Amanda when she’s overworked. 

Growing out his hair for whatever reason. 

Cooking and surprising his lovers, and realizing his life was gray before them. 

21.) Would your guardian ever own a pet Ahamkara? Would they rather ask one to grant a wish of theirs or slaughter it instead?

Pet!!! And a wish 

22.) How does your guardian feel about Mara Sov and Uldren Sov? If your guardian is awoken, does that affect the way they see them?

Thinks they both need to lighten up. Well, the Reef in general does. 

23.) If your guardian could have any other job but being a guardian, what would they be?

Probably a chef or glassblower with his own shop

24.) How does your guardian handle others doubting their abilities or questioning them?

Admits he has a lot to learn still

Blaine loves cuddling so much. He cuddles friends and lovers both, and yes usually though he tends to hide his face in their chest especially with tears in his eyes.

So...I have just red mer solarstone's story... (Just found it and had the time to read it)

How dare you make me cry 4-5 times/silly

And it is amazing!

And I got a couple of questions! :D

1. You mentioned Earth there, so I'm understanding she is a mer as well? (Mermaid 🌺 ;3) Who was the "darker" mer with her? Under the boat

2. Where did moonstones egg go? I notyit wasn't mentioned after the attack (rest in peace sunstone, we will miss you ❤️‍🩹)

3. Who was moonstone fighting at the end of his life? (Was it someone random or a specific character that you chose)

So to start with the fic was written by my good friend @erenevune who also made Sols! (I drew his design based on their description) and so i've allowed them to answer 2 and 3 of your questions which i have copy pasted from discord :D (If anyone hasn't read the fic yet, you can find it here!)

I can answer the first question though!

1. Earth is indeed a mer in the au as well yes! She and the 'mystery darker mer' with her have been in development for a while now and are going to be background characters for the au - i'll be posting art of them very soon so stay tuned ;)

2. Moonstone's egg was killed during the attack that killed Sunstone, despite their best efforts to protect both eggs Sunstone wasn't able to completely block off the attack and Moonstone's egg was the casualty. Though, thankfully, Sunstone died believing he had protected both eggs. Solstone barely survived, it was honestly pure luck Sunstone managed to save even one of them. It was likely either crushed or knocked so hard the baby mer inside was too injured to survive, and by the time Moonstone was able to find his egg it would have been too late to do anything. Very preoccupied with feeling part of him die when Sunstone died, since as twins their life force was connected and Moonstone had to feel every moment of him fading then his sudden absence. The only reason Moonstone survived is because both he and Sunstone had bonded to another mer as mates for their little family pod

3. Moonstone attacked his mate. The mate is unnamed (though I have nicknamed them as "Slate" in my head). After the death of his twin and loss of his own pup, his sanity was degrading rapidly over the years as he was in constant pain from missing half of his soul and greif. He had already been attacking other mers for some time and some cannibalsm had been starting as well. Which, definitely didn't help his steadily shattering mind.

At the end, he completely lost whatever sanity he had left and attacked his mate, killing them and consequently killing himself. Slate let it happen without a fight because they knew all of them would be better off, and that Moonstone had already been gone for a very long time. If not when Sunstone died, then sometime when Sols was still a very young pup. And so had they, just not as badly as Moonstone. They also knew neither of them were fit to care for Sols anymore and hadnt been for years, and while it wasn't a great choice, the mate figured Sols would be better off taking his chances alone.

Was it selfish? Yes. But by this point they were already an absent parent and were looking forward to neither of them constantly suffering just by being alive anymore. In a way, Slate's final act was to protect Sols by making sure Moonstone was focused only on them and would end up killing them, so he couldn't then turn on Sols and kill him too. Sols doesnt look much like Slate, but he does share the same tail fin shape as them.

Sols looks most like Sunstone in terms of colour, but has Moonstones eyes. Physically he looks very much like both Sunstone and Moonstone as they're twins. Though to Moonstone, who was forever grieving, Sols looked more like a mini Sunstone which added to his mental decline towards the end. Sols was a constant reminder of what he lost and why he had to stay, when he would have much rathered to join his twin and pup in death.
