I personally think ao3 should try an update with a permanent block of tags that the user themselves can choose.

Yeah, I agree that could be a cool feature. But that's still not censorship. It's a tool allowing for more specific personal choice/filtering.

And it's something you can kind of already do by using the "-butt stuff" format in AO3's search function to remove that tag from your results.
