A screaming match took place in the quad, though no one even batted an eye at argument. See the students of nevermore all were used to this. Many screaming matches happened in the quad but only with the same 2 people

It would always end the same way too,with xavier and y/n storming off in the other direction and today was no different

Both going in opposite directions to avoid each other

Y/n needed to get as far away from xavier thorpe as possible. The boy was completely infuriating, with his stupid perfect face and his obnoxiously soft hair.... she hated everything about him

The girl entered the Weathervane Cafe and took the booth in farthest corner of the coffee shop after ordering her usual coffee and brownie

Mindlessly scrolling through tiktok when a hand slammed onto the table. She looked up to see 3 normie bullies

"Can I help you?" Y/n asked the boys in front of her, clearly unamused

"Yes actually" one of the boys grabbed her while the others helped drag her to their school to send a message to nevermore

Xavier could barely calm himself. He knew he couldn't carry on like this any longer. It hurt more than anything,pretending like he didn't care at all, as if it wasn't killing him. He made up his mind, he needed to find you

Xavier had been searching the school for you for hours almost giving up, when he saw a figure limping at the entrance of the school

It was her. The girl he'd just spent hours looking for except she had bruises all over her body and looked as if she'd fall over at any given moment.

Xavier ran towards her, stopping in front of her "who did this to you?"

Y/n scoffed,after hours of torture she didn't need more pain "it doesn't matter"

"of course it matters, someone hurt you" xavier sighed frustrated

"Why do you care if I'm hurt , it doesn't make a difference to your life " y/n tried to walk away but winced from pain

"BECAUSE IM IN LOVE WITH YOU." xavier yelled out finally having reached his tipping point

Y/n froze in her place "don't be mean , please I'll take any other games just not this. I'm begging you xavier "

The boy hesitated but stepped towards her "I'd never be that cruel. I'm tired of lying to myself and to you. I've been in love with you since you got to nevermore and I got scared so I decided to pretend that I hated you. It was easier that way."

The girl's eyes welled up with tears "we are such dumbasses , I pretend to hate you but I never could."

Xavier didn't say anything but interlocked their hands and took her to the nurse , staying by her side the whole time until she fell asleep

Then only did he go to town with ajax and hurt the people who hurt his girl and when she woke up he was by her side again

"Xavier did you mean what you said?" The girl looked at him with hope

"I meant every word. I love you y/n-

He was interrupted as the girl pressed her lips to his and pulled him into a passionate kiss

you literally felt like you could not sit still. anger was pulsating through your veins as you paced back and forth on the porch of the chateau. you also felt the piercing eyes of pope follow you back and forth as you struggled to form a cohesive sentence.

“it’s just- ugh! she can’t get away with this! she thinks because she’s a kook that i’ll be begging for her forigveness and shit like i’m a starving peasant just to save my reputation! i’m a fucking pogue, i don’t have a reputation to uphold!” you spat as your hands clenched together so hard you swear you were going to accidentally draw blood from your palms.

vanessa was a kook that you never had problems with when you were kids because you two had a friendship that was secretive and playful because of opposing groups. it wasn’t until middle school was when she ditched you, similar to kie and sarah’s relationship. thankfully for them, they sorted it out. however, vanessa was bitter and bitchy every chance she could get. 

“yes (y/n)! keep it fiesty! i wanna see you win a good cat fight.” jj egged you on.

“you’re gonna make yourself go crazy if you don’t just sit down.” pope spoke in a sterner tone than you would have expected. but as the rage filled you from vanessa, pope’s tone was not helping. you felt a tinge of hurt in your chest as he expressed his clear stress and annoyance with you. but you weren’t going to let it go that easily; not in this state.

“i’m fine just the way i am, thanks.” you responded just as passive-aggressively as he did. you literally had to restrain yourself from rolling your eyes so you wouldn’t egg this on, because the last thing you needed was for pope of all people to be on your bad side. 

you heard him scoff from behind you and his footsteps faded away. you spun around so quickly, maybe even too quickly to play it cool, to just see a flash of him as he turned the corner. your eyes flashed to john b, kie, and jj who had expressions that were just as shocked as your own.

“what’s his problem?” you asked, expecting an answer real quick before you had to go investigate it yourself. your teeth grinded against each other and you felt your face and ears go hot. 

“he probably just doesn’t think this is worth it (y/n/n).” kiara stated, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and giving you a look that said don’t let it get to you. kiara shared a quick glance with john b and jj, which definitely did not go unnoticed by you.

“w-what was that? that little look you three shared?” you asked pointing your finger at them interchangeably and confused but angrily eager to find out. you raised your eyebrows, expecting another speedy answer as you finally turned towards jj who held his hands up in defense and bit his tongue. 

“cut pope some slack. you’ve been looking for trouble lately (y/n), it’s been keeping him on edge each time.” john b responded and slapped his hands on this thighs before getting up off the couch. you felt your cheeks get a little hot and your jaw drop slightly.

pope was trying to be protective of you. this was not a secret that you and pope were always flirty with each other but neither of you ever acted on it. both keeping the same sad mindset, if they wanted to, they would. everytime you talked about this with kiara and sarah at a girls’ night, they playfully judged you for thinking like that and tried to encourage you to just go for it. 

you took a deep inhale and relaxed your shoulders and face, feeling the tension ease up on your body. “she’s asking for it...look i don’t want to make pope upset or anything but vanessa can’t keep pulling this shit. she’s asking for her teeth to get knocked in.” you huffed out as you grabbed your backpack and phone to hop on your bike and head home.

your grabbed your phone and backpack as you headed back outside to your bike. you didn’t even bother to text the rest of the group about catching a ride to tonights kegger because you were just a little fired up from earlier. they were your friends and if this were any other case, they would be backing you up. why is this time any different?

you’re recalling yourself getting ready. stud earrings because she can grab hold of hoops. your hair in two braids because there was less surface area for her to snatch onto. sneakers to make a run for it in case shit gets bad. 

what the rest of them don’t understand is that not only was vanessa mean, spoiled, and made your existence on the obx difficult, was that you had a bumpy past with her. more than just losing a friend. she made up a rumor based on fake ideas that she overheard her parents talking about. when she would run into you on the street with her other kook friends at the ripe age of 13, she would be a bystander as they spat insults your way. that always caused a strain in your friendship. 

until one day, she started the picking on first. she judged you on your family’s financial situation and said quote-by-quote “i heard her mom cheats on her dad with all of her little pogue friend’s dads. who knows, they could actually be related and we wouldn’t know. she’s a whore and i’m sure she’ll end up just like her.” tears still brim your eyes at that memory. you wouldn’t dare tell the rest of the pogues, whether it was out of embarassment or fear. it was best for them and their own minds that it was never brought up again. since then, it seems like constant torture from her. 

you pulled up on the beach and hopped off your bike as your tires were definitely not made for the sand. you laid it on a tree and made a b-line to the keg that john b was basically guarding. “thought we’d hear from you.” you heard kiara state as she sat on the sand and glanced up at you, squinting her eyes to keep the remaining sun from basically burning them.

“yeah well, just got a lot on my mind.” you responded. you didn’t want to be so abrupt with them but your blood was basically boiling with the idea of vanessa. john b stared between you and kiara and handed you a full red solo cup which you gladly took, taking a gulp.

“soooo...” jj started, throwing an arm around your shoulder, “cat fight tonight?” you felt a chuckle rise out of you as you playfully rolled your eyes.

“if you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll get front row.” you joked, sending a smirk jj’s way and taking another gulp. you felt a presence behind you and turned to be faced with pope. his facial expression had clearly changed from what you saw from him last time. he looked almost guilty and concerned rather than aggravated. 

“come to snap at me again?” you said, turning towards the horizon on the water. looking into his eyes right now was difficult. maybe because it was the idea that you knew some part of you wanted to snap at him for him snapping at you earlier but you couldn’t make another enemy. not tonight. 

“about that...can i actually talk to you for a minute?” pope muttered, instincitvely cracking his knuckles, clearly scared to tread on water. you felt your shoulders relax and your facial muscles follow suit. placing your drink and backpack on the ground you followed a few paces behind him, closer to the sand where the tide was rolling in. although he didn’t stop, he wanted this to be a walk and talk situation. 

you strolled beside him, both of your hands slightly brushing against each other every now and then. while neither of you took initiative to grab the others’ hand, neither of you pulled your hands out of that pathway either. that connection and touch felt nice. it was reassuring that his snappiness, along with your own, was out of love and protection of each other. 

“you won’t be happy with what i’m about to say...” pope started, basically holding his breath.

“so why say it, pope? i know it sounds bad to say outloud but, why not just let me fight her? she has made my existence so unbearably difficult on this island and has slandered my name and countless others of those i love too much and for too long. i’m sick of being a pushover and letting her get away with it because of mommy and daddy’s money. im done!” you blurted out, letting more info out than you expected. “why does it bother you so much? if this was topper and john b going at it, or rafe and jj? which keep in mind, both have actually happened, i’m sure you would be more hesitant to stop them.”

your strolling came to a sudden halt as pope took a step directly in front of you, face to face. he looked longingly into your eyes, somewhat darting back and forth between your own eyes to search for an answer to his questions or even an answer to yours. 

“(y/n)! i can’t see you get hurt. i know how badly you want to do this and how much it means to you but in the end, what is it going to get you? an even worse reputation among kooks, bloody nose, and a black eye? is it worth it?” pope rambled drasticaly. 

“it is worth it! and i’m so thankful that you care about me and my well being and everything in between but this is something that i have to do. once and for all. i’m not putting myself and everyone i love through this torture anymore. and if that means beating the shit out of her and getting a bloody lip and battered up on the way, than so be it!” you responded, using your hands quite animatedly throughout the performance. the waves seemed like the loudest thing on earth as you awaited an answer from pope. he looked defeated and anxious, knowing that there was no getting through to you for this. 

“i-” pope started before cutting himself off, looking deafeated yet again. he ran his hands over his face in frustration and as he let his eyes shine over the tips of his fingers, they locked with yours. you felt stuck in place and in a trance for a split second before you felt a pair of hands on your waist and soon enough, you were lip locked with pope. 

instantly you pulled away, your heart feeling full and your legs feeling limp. your hands made their way to his jawline, slightly caressing his cheeks and neck as you pulled him back into the kiss, elongating it. 

he pulled away, shocked yet proud with himself. you could not help the small smile that made it’s way onto your face as your cheeks felt hot immediately. “i can’t believe i’m saying this but...fuck it. beat the shit out of vanessa.” 

the small smile grew as a laugh escaped your lips. you were quick to grab his hand as you both made your way back towards the kegger that was becoming a little more dense as the minutes passed. sarah, kiara, jj, and john b’s eyes were quick to fall on your interlocked hands with pope. both of you kept quiet, playing it nonchalantly. but you couldn’t help but notice pope’s look to john b and jj, all with smirks lined up on their faces.

I’m so so SO glad you’re liking it!!!!!! It can get kinda heavy but it’s such a great story.... honestly I’d been wanting to start it since I saw the first pv for the anime all the way back last year but I was like, you know it’s a mappa anime! so I wanted to watch the anime as a new thing, cause I love mappa, but three episodes in I couldn’t hold back and just binged it. It’s kind of story that just makes you wanna drink it all in one go, isn’t it? so good so good

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm can’t say I see either of them much into fashion tbh, but if I had to pick probably model Kiri and artist Baku? That’s been my headcanon for a while now, actually!! I think for me it came from two characters in a manga I like that are a lot like a dog and a cat but have inverted fav animals and when I read about that I was like “oh, right, makes sense since they like each other” and then my brain turned it krbk because when does it not lmao

Ah man, I’m sorry but I’m not the best person to ask this to! I started this sideblog cause I had too many followers on my main and I didn’t want my stuff to be seen by that many people at first, so whatever I did probably isn’t what you’re looking for :( but really there isn’t much to it, just post whatever you like to draw, tag it as best as you can (but remember that only the first five tags appear in the search page) and be patient, since whatever you do at first you won’t get much attention anyway - the only real advice I can give is to draw something that makes you happy and that you’d draw anyway even if no one were to see it, it’ll make keep posting despite a possible lack of activity a lot easier!

He doesn’t like bothersome things, he isn’t very good at taking anything seriously or putting effort in stuff, but he’s very chill to spend time with and generally a nice chat both if you want mindless thoughts or deep conversations (he’s a philosophy major after all). He can’t sing for shit, he’s got two cats (tago and schelly!), and he just wants a quiet life to laze around but all his friends are hurricanes in human bodies, but then again, he picked them himself so he can’t complain. Bucky Barnes x Reader Summary: Y/N has escaped, but where does she go from here?  Word Count: 1.5k (Sorry this ones a little short)

Warnings: Homelessness, a striking lack of Bucky, but soon my friends, soon, ANGST, reader not understanding computers very well A/N: Im apologizing for the lack of smut in this part, but I really like following the canon

I was woken up abruptly by a quick jab to the ribs, quickly waking up and going into action. I grabbed the object and twisted it away.

“Hey, I’m not looking for a fight here, just wanted to make sure that you didn’t overdose on whatever you were on last night.” I looked up to see the older man that had talked to me the night before. He was in his forties and dirty looking, but had kind eyes, shielded by a pair of small glasses. “Can’t have the cops pokin’ around here, bad for everyone.” I got up from the wet grass, wiping myself off from anything that may have gotten on me. 

“For the record, I wasn’t high.”

“Could have fooled me.” I shook my head, rolling my eyes. He couldn’t have understood the intensity of the situation that I was in. Hydra was probably after me, and I had no idea where to go or what to do about it.

I couldn’t help but think about Bucky, what happened to him and where he was right now. He had to have gotten out, right? He was a better agent than I was, simply in physicality. He had the capability to escape, we would find each other. But how had they found us out? There must have been some sort of suspicion, something that tipped the higher ups off about what we were going to do. How could I have been so careless to allow someone to find out the plan. But that was the past now, I had to focus on what happens next. 

“Where’s the closest library?”

I walked down the sidewalk toward the library, trying my best to blend in, looking inconspicuous against the crowd. I was lucky enough that the closest library was only two blocks away, I was already a little tired from last night with everything that happened. 

I looked to my left, and sure enough, there was a quaint little library that looked cozy. I shook the handle and pushed at the door, thankful that it was open earlier than most places. 

The walls were covered in children’s drawings. I knew I shouldn’t be wasting time, but the entire thing was so uncanny, so unabashedly civilian, something I hadn’t experienced in who knows how long.  At the small front desk sat a woman, maybe in her thirties with a small name tag.

“Hello miss, anything I could help you with today?” She smiled sweetly at me, welcoming me into the library. 

“Actually, do you guys have computers that the public can use?”

“Yes, they’re right over in the corner.”

“Thank you, also, do you happen to have some paper and something to write with?” She turned around, picking some paper and a pen up and handing it to me. I returned her smile and headed over to the out of date computers sitting at the back of the room. 

I turned the old thing on, a sound a little bit like music coming out of the speakers as it booted up. It was then that I remembered that although I’ve shoved a flash drive in one of these and let things happen until it said “COMPLETE,” I wasn’t too familiar with computers .  Sure I had wanted to work with those beautiful machines, simply being left alone with one for an hour with a manual and figuring out all of it’s secrets. I had no idea what in me was pushing me so much towards them, but it was there.

Once the machine turned on, I looked at the display. Luckily, it wasn’t too difficult to figure out, there were only two little icons on the screen, and the one that looked like a little trash can was probably not what I wanted. The other was a little colorful circle called “Chrome.” Personally, I didn't see what was chrome about it but I clicked it, and a screen popped up. The word “Google'' was written across the middle of the screen along with a small bar with a picture of a magnifying glass at the left side. 

It took me a minute, but I figured out what I needed to do. The first thing that I could think of to search for was Bucky. I typed his name into the search bar and pressed enter, and tons of results flooded the screen.

The problem was that I didn’t know any of the concrete facts about him. I knew that his name was Bucky, and how he was sweet and funny even though we’ve both been through so much, but I didn’t know his last name, or when he was born, or even how old he was. 

There was a little tab called images that made the most sense to me. If I could find a picture of him in the pool of “Bucky”s that existed in the world, I could find out who he was, and then hopefully, figure out who I was from there. There were many pictures, at first it was overwhelming, but as I scrolled slightly, I found it, found him. 

He looked younger, more innocent, with a short haircut and a blue leather jacket that made me swoon a little bit. He looked different, but I couldn’t mistake those beautiful blue eyes. I clicked on the picture, which led me to a sight called Wikipedia, with his photo in the corner. 

“James Buchanan Barnes, born on March 10th, 1917, was a member of the Howling commandos and best friend to Steve Rogers (Captain America).”

I continued reading, writing down the important bits , how he was tested on by HYDRA way back in 1943, and how he was supposedly killed after falling from a train. But he couldn’t have died, I didn’t know him back then, I knew him now. 

The name Steve Rogers continuously popped up, so I clicked on it, and was flooded with even more information. Once I had everything I had to know written down after the rabbit hole I had been down, I turned to the librarian to ask her one last question.

“Do you think you could give me directions to Avengers Tower?”

I would have preferred to take a cab but I couldn't without money, so walking 20 blocks was my only option. The tower was huge, and I found it much too easy to walk right in. There were people walking and sitting at tables in the lobby, working at filling out paperwork. I went up to the desk, not allowing them to get a word in before I could say what I needed to. 

“I need to speak with Steve Rogers.”

“Ma’am, if you just give us a moment, we can help you.”

“No, you don’t understand, everyone here is in danger, Bucky is in danger.” A man in the back stood up, walking towards me to get a better look at me. His hair was graying and his glasses filled up most of his face. He looked pale, as if he had just seen a ghost. 

“Y/N?”

“Get this shit away from me! I told you, I need to talk to Steve Rogers, he’s the only one who will understand.”

“Y/N, I know you don’t remember but we need to do some tests.”

“Please, just get me in touch with him!”

The lab, I’ll admit, was friendlier than most that I had been in. The room was filled with computers and scientific equipment that I really wanted to go and play with for some Rita’s on. There were nodes stuck to my forehead that were oddly gentle, but I still didn’t like the feeling.There was a small TV connected to the ceiling showing the news. A woman’s voice was heard over the mess that was being filmed. 

“In breaking news today, wanted fugitive from S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America, has been spotted in Washington D.C. battling with a masked stranger in the middle of the highway. “

I  looked to the screen and immediately recognized him, It was Bucky, my Bucky, fighting it out with Steve Rogers. He had taken off his goggles, the two of them fighting with an intensity that I had never seen before. The only person that could match Bucky in a fight like that was me, so this was damn impressive. 

“There! There he is, you need to get me to Washington D.C!”

“Y/N, you need to calm down, we need to help you first.” A second man began to get near me, pulling the leg of my pants up, exposing the metallic nature of my left leg. I panicked and kicked the man away, sending him across the room. 

“I don’t need help, I need to get to Washington D.C., and how the hell do you know my name?” I pushed the man off of me and got up, trying to get out of the lab. I had almost made it out of the door when I felt a sharp pain in my neck. I immediately felt woozy, falling back into the chair closest to me.

“It’s gonna be ok, Stats, I’m gonna take care of you,” The graying man from earlier said, helping me back into the lab chair from earlier with music less resistance than before. My vision got spotty, as his wistful, almost bittersweet facial expression was the last thing I saw before total blackness.

Forget and Remember

“Ern.” I say softly and rub the man’s arm.

“Ernest.”

Nothing.

“Ernest!” His eyebrows start to furrow in...distress?

“ERNEST!” I shout just loud enough to get through to his sleeping state. He instantly springs up, glasses crooked and hair a mess.

“Huh?” He looks at me with wide yet tired eyes before adjusting his glasses.

“Everything okay?” He doesn’t usually fall asleep in his office unless he’s highly stressed about something or is in a restless mindset. He looks around before stretching his arms above his head. He cocks his head to the side and instantly grabs his neck. A low groan of pain escapes his lips.

“Mm, what time is it?” He adjusts his cardigan before standing up.

“Quarter past 10. I was gonna let you sleep for a bit longer but I figured I’d come check on you. You don’t normally sleep this late. Are you feeling alright?” I move my hands up to feel his face. His arms encircle my waist.

“Yeah I’m okay. I’m glad you woke me up when you did. I was having a ridiculous dream about them again. They were chasing me and threatening to hurt me if I didn’t stay and take care of them. Good God, can the memories of those two just go away? It’s farcical at this point!” He rests he chin on top of my head in defeat.

I wrap my arms around him and gently stroke his back. If there was a way to wipe his brain clean of the names Helen Sharp and Madeline Ashton then I would. Post traumatic stress comes in all different shapes and forms I’ve come to find.

“I know it’s hard to deal with the past stress they’ve caused. If I could fix it or take it away then I would.” I say in an attempt to ease his tension.

He just continues to rest against me - his thumbs making little circles against hips. After a moment of silence, he breaths in deep and releases a relaxed sigh.

“Doesn’t help to dwell on the matter when I have you to focus my attention on now.” He mutters above my head.

I pull back to smile at him before saying, “Come on, let’s get you some breakfast.” I lean up to peck his cheek and he follows me out to the kitchen.

Ernest was broken in every sense of the word. He was only a shell of man when I first met him. I remember the day we met very clearly. I was on kind of a soul-searching trip of my own when I noticed him. Ern was seated by the elegant fireplace in the winter lodge we were both staying in. He wore a casual dress coat with slacks and a trapper hat - the flaps were pinned up exposing his ears. The chair he sat in was partially turned toward the window. He wasn’t focused on anything in particular as he stared out at the falling snow. I do, however, recall the forlorn expression in his eyes. That’s what drew me to him.

I had just finished unpacking my duffel bag in my room before coming to relax in the the upper lobby with my book. The whole resort was beautiful - tall cathedral ceilings with skylight windows. There were mahogany wood pillars with stone wall detailing, giving it that true rustic cabin feel.

I made my way over toward the rocking chairs by one of the fireplaces and took a seat. Pulling my knees to my chest, I gazed around the large room. There weren’t many people. Just the lady at the front desk speaking with a young couple, an older gentleman with his dog, and...him. When my eyes spotted him, like I said, I was instantly drawn in. He looked a little lost inside himself. I turned my head in an attempt to refocus but found myself looking back to him. It was like a gravitational pull. I started to wonder if everything was okay.

After a sigh and shake of my head, I began on the first page of my book. Anyone who knows me can tell you that whenever I start a book, I get lost. Try to ask me a question and you’ll most likely receive a low ‘mm’ or small noise of acknowledgement even though I have no idea what was said.

I continue reading, occasionally glancing at the man no more than fifty feet from me. Time starts to pass - hours possibly. The suns sinks lower. People are coming and going. But he’s still there - unmoved and unfazed by his surroundings. I peek over my book to steal a look only to notice his eyes are already on me. They quickly flick back towards the window. After a moment, he looks back to me, making eye contact. I lower the pages in my hand to deliver a small smile. Unexpectedly, he matches my expression only to look back outside. I pull my lips in and continue my story.

The sun is now completely set. I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with daylight savings time. I like that it gets dark because it gives me an excuse to wear pajamas and cuddle up in bed early but sometimes I like to have just a little more daylight to go out and do things.

About halfway into the novel, I decide to mark my place and close it up. I stretch my arms up and yawn. He’s looking again. I raise my eyebrows and make a face that says ‘hiii what do you want’ but in a playful manner. He smirks and again returns his gaze towards that damn window. I smile at him and wait to see what he’ll do next. ‘What an intriguing person,’ I think to myself. In an instant he whips his head my way, squinting his eyes to feign suspicion before slowly turning away. I then let out a giggle. ‘Looks like im going over there.’

I start over towards him. He starts to look a little nervous as he adjusts himself in his seat. “Well, if you’re gonna flirt with me then you might as well introduce yourself.” I joke, earning a slightly timid smile from him.

He clears his throat and says, “E-Ernest. My name’s Ernest.”

“Nice to meet you, Ernest. I’m (y/n).”

A moment of silence goes by before he stutters out, “Oh, uhm, why don’t sit down?” His hand gestures to the chair in front of him.

I sit down cross-legged and look to him. “What brings you here, Ernest? Hidden snowboarding talent?”

“Yeah sure, me?” He laughs. “No, It’s the serenity and scenery for me. What about you? Extreme skier?”

“Absolutely not. Same reasons as you actually.” I smile at him.

“Absolutely not? What about ice skating? That’s not too terribly hard.”

“I’d fall on my face or crack my head on the ice,” I purse my lips and add, “but i don’t fail at anything so I’d fall in style.”

He chuckles saying, “It’s not that difficult, but I don’t doubt that. You appear to be a very smooth person.”

“Smooth? This dork? Nu-uh, nope!”

“Ah come on, don’t be so hard on yourself.”

“You’ll believe it when you see it.” I say, rolling my eyes.

“Well you’ll just have to prove it to me sometime.” He laughs gently.

“Ernest! Are you asking me on a date? Calm down we only just started talking and now you’re making plans!” I fake a look of disgust before smiling.

“I..hah..uhm - well I..you are very beautiful.” He stumbles over his words and quickly looks away, taking off his hat. His fingers fiddle with fur on the inside.

I smile at him and give him a thank you.

“You’re welcome.” He’s looks down bashfully.

What a sweet, kind soul. He’s been hurt in the past, that much is evident. I watch the way his hand reaches up to stroke his face. His green eyes flicker around the room and land on me a couple times. With pursed lips, he lets out a soft sigh. “Sorry, I-I’m not really that exciting. I understand if you want to go back to your room or if you’d rather ME leave then I..”

“What? No! I want you stay. Of course I can’t stop you if you want to leave but I’d rather you stay.” I give him a reassuring smile. He doesn’t say anything but stares at me as if searching for any indication of dishonesty.

“Alright?”

“Okay.” I finally get a smile back.

We continue our small talk for a little while longer before I suggest getting a drink. He agrees and we head down to the bar room. This room is just as beautiful as the rest. We sit the farthest away from the other people in here. The live piano player strings out a beautiful melody.

A few beers and a couple of old-fashioneds later, he’s telling me stories of his life - his body becoming more animated as the alcohol sets in. I find myself thoroughly enjoying his company. We discuss topics ranging from music tastes to embarrassing childhood memories. I wasn’t expecting him to say that he’s a doctor.

“No way, a doctor in what?” I ask curiously.

“Well I was a surgeon early on. I then ‘downgraded’ by transferring over to mortuary practices. Not exactly the best conversation piece.” He laughs through his nose.

“No that’s really fascinating! Better than anything I’ve ever done. I never really had a ‘calling’ as one would say.”

“Yeah well I wouldn’t say doing these jobs were my calling per se but they pay the bills. Hence me being here, trying to find some sort of inner peace.” He says.

“I understand that completely. Same goes with me. So should I now refer to you as Dr. Ernest?”

He raises his eyebrows and tilts his head trying to look as pretentious as possible. “That’s Dr. MENVILLE, Ms. (y/n).” I snort a laugh at him.

“Well excuse me. That’s Ms. (Y/L/N) to you, Dr. Menville.” He laughs as well.

As another drink gets placed in front of me, Ernest walks his fingers towards the glass. He lightly pulls it his way. I flick his hand, shooing him away. That doesn’t stop him. Continuing his ministrations, I grab his hand and hold it down onto the bar as I down my drink. After I place my glass down, I realize my hand is still over his. He looks at them and flips them over, running the tips of his fingers along my palm. I eye his hand and then start a trail to his face. He’s already looking at me. My gaze floats up and down from his green orbs to his lips.

Not sure how or when, but we found ourselves crashing into one another in an attempt to walk down the hallway to his room. His fingers fumbled with the key to open the door. Once inside, I wasn’t expecting what he did, or rather said, next.

“(Y/n), may I kiss you?”

I wanted nothing more than to say ‘aww’ and hug him but desire was too heavy to ignore. I grinned instead and pulled him down to me, lips crashing together. This seemed to be enough encouragement for him seeing that I was pinned to the wall - hands running up and down my body. His mouth exploring quickly from my lips to my jaw and neck. I moan out, fingers delving into his hair.

Ernest picks me up, allowing me to wrap my legs around his waist. He places me down onto the bed and I can feel how aroused he is through the fabric of his pants. Our mouths connect once again as our tongues begin an endless dance.

“Are you sure about this? Absolutely certain?” He mumbles against my mouth. “I mean, if you’re not comfortable then I understand.”

“Yes, I’m positive. I trust you.”

He nods in return.

We shed our tops and as he starts to unbutton his pants, he stops dead in his tracks. “Shit.” He mutters. “I..uhm, don’t have any..uh..”

“It’s okay, I’m covered.” I groan out.

With that Ernest discards the rest of his clothes allowing me to see him fully. He’s not the biggest but he’s perfect for me and utterly handsome. He then pulls my jeans all the way off. I’m already wet and ready for him. His gaze doesn’t linger on me too long but the look of hunger and lust on his face doesn’t go unnoticed. His double take almost made me giggle. He pushes me up towards the top of the bed and climbs onto me. His hand guides his member into me softly and we moan out in unison. I yank his head down, our mouths connecting. God, does he feel good. It’s like his body was made for mine. We just fit together.

As his pace becomes sloppy I know that he’s close, as am I. My climax comes first as I yell his name and cling to him. He’s not far behind, following me into waves of pleasure.

After collapsing beside me, I cuddle up next to him. His arms hold me as if i might disappear. After a minute or two my breathing returns to normal.

“Ernest?” I question.

“Yes?”

“What just happened?”

“Well I just had sex with a beautiful lady who I already enjoy having in my arms. I can’t say the same for you, but I hope it was at least half decent.” I can hear the smile in his voice.

“Oh it was a little more than half decent, Dr. Menville. You know you’re stuck with me now, right?”

He wholeheartedly chuckles before saying, “I wouldn’t mind that, not one bit. But, of course, that means you’d be stuck with me.”

I push myself up to look at him. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.” I state. He shrugs, giving me that same self-deprecating look from earlier. I kiss the look away and pull back to see a genuine smile plastered on his face.

I’m not sure if it’s the alcohol or if I’m already intoxicated by this man but I feel so content laying here with him...on him. I listen to the steady rhythm of his heart beat as it lulls me to a deep, tranquilizing sleep.

I watch Ernest spread some grape jelly on his bagel and take a bite. His eyes scan over the Sunday paper as he enjoys his meal. I sit down across from him and lean onto one of my arms.

“Ern, do you remember the day we met?” I ask.

“How could I forget? I remember how much I drank to calm my nerves after we went to the bar.” His chest rumbles with a chuckle as he folds the paper in his hand in half. I smile sweetly at him.

“I remember everything about that day. That was probably the lowest point in my life. But when you sat down across from me, I could only stare at you in awe. I didn’t want to seem like a creep so every time you looked up, I would look away. You looked so beautiful....then of course you caught me gawking at you like a moron so I had to make a joke of the situation.”

“You had to throw in your Ernest charm.” I wink and smirk.

“Yeah well I’m glad I did now but in the moment all I could think was ‘shit shit shit shit she’s coming over here’. I could’ve been sick, that’s how nervous I was.” He laughs.

“I know, I could tell.” I giggle. “It was adorable though. I quite literally almost said ‘awe’ when you asked to kiss me in your room.”

“Well, I didn’t want you to change your mind once you realized it was possibly just the alcohol making you feel the way you did so I was cautious.” He shrugs. “That was a beautiful night nonetheless.”

“It very much was. I was thinking we should plan a trip up there again. Weekend getaway or something, it’d be nice.”

“Yeah, let’s go. We never did get to go ice skating - too busy with more...important matters.” He smirks and turns back to his paper.

Yes my style did change for a better i think. I will give some tips because i was thinking to do something like this for others but for myself.

THIS IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

so you don’t have to take all as “a must ”.Also probably you  may heard some of those but still it always good to remind them . This is what help me and ,I hope it will help you :

 1) DON’T SMOKE/DRINK - [This is first personal thing ] there is some stupid stereotype that smoking ,helps you calm down! BIG FAT LIE. To all artist who smoke , please quit !!! It didn’t help. You will be unfocused ,sleepy ,dizzy and sloppy at your work. You wouldn’t be able work because your mind will be keep thinking about smoking not drawing.Your work will improve a lot while you quit any of this. 

2) DATE YOUR WORK [Year-month-day] it does helps me to organised things. Also you will know how long it took you with one drawing, how often you draw. In 2016 i got 60 drawings .This year i count 220 !!  

3) NEVER DELETE YOUR WORK [even if you think is SHIT ]- I remember once @onemagpie​ told me that. I use to delete my because of reasons.I took her advice and  since then i don’t delete anything. The left  art is from  2016 and 3-4 years later i redraw and improve the idea.You will never know , when you will back to your old art ,and search for ideas/inspiration !!

4) NOT EVERY YOUR ART NEED TO BE MASTERPIECE/-  some of your posts gets less (or more it srly depends) notes.That doesn’t mean your art is awful, just it happens. I can’t explain why -maybe fandom/ time of posting/ the stars are not in good position. I know this kind of thing can  put you down as a artist, but you cant just make you think the X notes measure you  AS A GOOD ARTIST

5)  TRY NEW THINGS- maybe you can try animate or, make videos/speedpains of your art. It always fun to try something new. Also it helps you know the new media.

6) YOU NEED TO PROGRESSING - i always think that this is the worst sin artist can make. Stop progressing. “Screw you this is my style and i like draw that way i wont  change anything” !! Of course  i never say you should change your style! !! What i mean is ..I know  is good to draw, what you are comfortable with, but stuck in ONE thing - may be tiring, for you and your audience. You can always improve something. I think you as artist you will grow and people will appreciate that  you did put an effort to get  better and better thought the years.

REMEMBER SMALL STEPS SMALL STEPS !!

7) USE REFERENCE/WATCH TUTORIALS  - I donno what numnuts say this is cheating!!! Search on google, look for reference. This is part of improving also looking how others work ,may help you a lot !! You will know some tricks and some better way to improve your skills.

8 )TRY TO DRAW EVERYDAY - sketching ideas /doodles. Don’t force yourself tho.

9) DON’T WORK ON ONE ART X MONTHS/YEARS- depend on how much detailed art is / if this is commission the process may took longer,  . BUT but don’t spend ,months or years on one piece. Sometimes you need to just gave up ,and move on to other project. I use to spend on art month non stop. Sadly this makes me frustrated and really tired in process, in the end the results wasn’t that great.

10) TAKE A BREAK IF YOU NEED TO- your mental health is more important, your health is important , you are more important. Think about yourself FIRST!!

11) DON’T BE SHY TO POST YOUR ART - The begging of posting arts are always hard, and took some time to gain some audience. Don’t worry ,as soon you will post your art more and more people will notice you. Remember to properly tag !!

a fool’s guide to coping w bpd

ok so for the record im NOT a mental health professional, im just... someone with bpd who’s coping and thought i’d share my tips. i think making a post like this will a) reach more people, and b) help my friends more than me just offering advice when they come to me for help. bpd affects everyone differently, and i can’t claim to totally understand the struggles of everyone who has it, but if you’re struggling right now and you just don’t know what to do or where to go, i gotchu fam. so without further ado... a step-by-step guide for coping with bpd

tw for mentions of emotional manipulation, self-harm, and suicide. none of it is in-depth, but i figured i’d warn anyway.

1) decide that you want to cope in a healthier way.

this seems kinda strange as a first step, but to me it really is the most important step. living with bpd all my life and being in therapy since i was 10 taught me a lot about willingness. saying “i want to be healthier” sounds like a no-brainer, but it’s actually really difficult. you have to sit yourself down and ask yourself: do i really want to fundamentally change the way i think about situations, about myself, and about other people? am i willing to work on this, even though it’s hard? and am i willing to give up on the unhealthy coping mechanisms i’ve been clinging onto?

i’m being totally genuine here: it took me years to get to the point where i could say: yeah, i really, really want to stop emotionally manipulating people to get what i want. i’m so sick of basing my self-worth on what other people say and do. i’m so scared that i am my bpd, and that there’s nothing else inside me; i don’t want it to be that way anymore. i want to have healthy and fulfilling relationships with other people. i want people to stop being afraid of me. i want to love myself. i really and truly do. and only when you come to that (awful, gut-wrenching) revelation can you actually start helping yourself. if you’re not at that point, that’s totally fine. i had to go through a hell of a lot to get there, and i understand not everyone is there. i wish everyone who can’t make this decision yet the best, but i really don’t think this post will be the miracle cure you’re hoping for. you can still read it for sure! i’m just saying that this first step was an extremely necessary one for me, and the next steps get a lot easier once you make this decision.

okay, so you’ve come to the realization that you really, really want to learn some new coping mechanisms. where do you start?

2) look into dbt (dialectical behaviour therapy).

ok. i’ve been going through dbt for a while, and i swear to god, it’s good. dbt was made for people with bpd, and it’s different from cbt in that the skills aren’t just cognitive. there are four sections of dbt skills: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. it may seem overwhelming, but all these skills are very practical and don’t just focus on “hey you’re thinking this? stop it.“ if you have access to a counsellor or therapist, ask them about dbt. if you don’t have access, try to find some stuff you can work on online. i did a quick search and found three sites (one, two, three).

if you have a therapist or counsellor that you can talk to about this, feel free to skip the rest of this section (or read it so you can surprise your therapist with your knowledge). for those of you who don’t have someone to guide you through this, i’m aware all these skills seem incredibly daunting. my recommendations for beginner skills are the following:

PLEASE skill, or reducing vulnerability to emotions (under emotion regulation)

nonjudgmental stance (under mindfulness)

stop, tip, distraction, or improve skills (under distress tolerance)

dear man or myths about interpersonal effectiveness (under interpersonal effectiveness)

reducing emotion vulnerability was the first skill i started working on. when i was first diagnosed with bpd, i was working at a restaurant without any meal breaks. i’d have meltdowns at work and after work, and it took this skill for me to realize that i needed to pack a snack or eat right after getting off my shift, because i was most vulnerable to my emotions when i was hungry or tired. when you understand how food, sleep, exercise, mood-altering substances, etc. all play into how vulnerable you are to your emotions, you can start thinking more clearly about situations and you can start coping ahead to reduce that vulnerability ahead of time. you’d be surprised how much this one helps.

nonjudgmental stance is probably one of the most helpful skills i learned. one of my therapists put it this way: if bpd is an allergy, then invalidation is the allergen. meaning: the thing that’s going to irritate your bpd and trigger problem behaviours is invalidation of emotions. it’s shame, and judgment. everyone judges themselves (which isn’t really healthy, but it is a part of our societal structure), but for us? that shit hurted. i can’t count the amount of times that i’ve been crying and then thought something like “god, you’re just so pathetic“ and started crying even harder. our impulsive behaviour and the decisions we regret almost always stem from a core feeling of being invalidated. remember that time that you were talking about your feelings to someone and they seemed dismissive, so you decided you hated them with every fiber of your being? yep, me too. that’s us reacting to invalidation. in general, we don’t really validate ourselves. quite the opposite! most of the time, we tear ourselves down and expect others to fill that void for us. (a lot of people do this, but it’s really problematic for us in particular because of our generally self-destructive behaviour.) so learning to be compassionate with ourselves is a really important step to take. if you like meditations, look up loving kindness and self-compassion meditations. rain is also a really good meditation to do, but i think it can be really painful to do when you’re just starting out. i’ve linked it at the bottom if you want to check them out, but try not to overload yourself! just stick to one you really like.

stop, tip, distract, and improve are all really good skills to start out with because they’re skills you use for when your skills run out. if you find yourself really struggling with crisis situations a lot, these are good to start out with. they’re specifically meant to calm you down, to get your emotions and adrenaline to a manageable level. if you struggle a lot with engaging in problem behaviour under stress, this one is golden. i used to struggle a lot with substance abuse, and these skills were lifesavers. instead of going right for the substance, i’d use stop. i’d distract myself for a while, surf the urge until the wave of emotion passes. then i could use skills like please by getting something to eat, or dear man by addressing the interpersonal problem with a level head. and on that note...

dear man / myths about interpersonal effectiveness, which is a great skill if your main problem is about asking for help or establishing boundaries. i used to have a lot of problems about asking for things properly (hence my habit of emotionally manipulating others to get what i wanted or needed), because i felt that if someone said no to me, i wouldn’t be able to handle it. or that people would hate me if i asked for things, or that i should be able to handle things on my own. in a way, it felt easier to rely on making others feel bad for not doing more for me rather than to ask outright. these myths are hard to unlearn, but it’s a good place to start if your main trigger is about boundaries or asking for help.

ok, so you’ve started working on a skill. a skill. don’t burn yourself out here, it’s okay (and more productive) to just focus on one instead of trying to change yourself overnight. and on that note...

3) be kind. remember change won’t happen overnight, and keep going.

this one is difficult, because... like, it’s not gonna be easy. i remember i used to have meltdowns and think, “no. i’m tired of being skillful. i’m tired of being the bigger person. i’m sick of this.” and that’s why the first step is so important, because you’re going to need that resolve to say, “hey, i haven’t engaged in my problem behaviour for so long. let’s not start now. i know it’s frustrating, i know it’s so easy to go back to what we know, and at the same time, i want to be better. i know i can be better.”

and even if you do engage in that problematic behaviour again (which, let’s face it, you probably will, because no one is perfect and everyone messes up, and that’s 100% okay), you need to remember this and be compassionate with yourself. everyone messes up. everyone says things they don’t mean to. everyone does things that they regret. everyone falls into old patterns from time to time. what’s important here is to stop beating yourself up over it and start doing something different. if you went back to self-harm, if you started calling up everyone you know and threatening to kill yourself, whatever it is — don’t conflate yourself with the behaviour. instead, take ownership of it. make amends with those you hurt instead of running away or self-sabotaging, think about what happened and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. slip-ups happen to everyone. literally everyone. so please try not to be hard on yourself if it happens. be disciplined, but not harsh. i promise, beating yourself up over mistakes is only going to hurt you and everyone around you.

conclusion

if you’ve read this far, thank you so much for doing so. i know that when you’re in the thick of it, it’s so hard to imagine yourself having a future, to imagine that you can make friends, keep people around, be anything but the sum total of your perceived failures. but you can. it’s difficult, believe me, it’s difficult, but it’s possible. and i believe you can do it. and trust me, there’s no way you’re going to disappoint me, no matter how much you feel like you’ve fucked up. if you can, just try it out, and i’ll be cheering you along every step of the way.

also, look into unhelpful thinking styles if you want. this is the worksheet i have, and it’s genuinely really useful. i keep it in my workbook and look at it to remind myself of when i’m unintentionally using them.

russ harris, who talks a lot about living a fulfilling life. here are some videos of his that i really like (internal struggles, the choice point, the struggle switch).

jon kabat-zinn and mbsr (mindfulness-based stress reduction). seriously if you’re into mindfulness this guy is so good. 9 attitudes in particular is a video i personally really like.

the aforementioned rain meditation, by tara brach. this one is all about learning what you need and providing it for yourself. it’s part of the larger loving kindness and self-compassion umbrella.

kristen neff has a website with self-compassion exercises, as well as books and such that she’s published. if she’s not your style, search up loving kindness or self-compassion meditations and i’m sure you’ll find other people that you might vibe with more.

i know brené brown deadass exploded in popularity a while back, but there’s a reason she did. all of her stuff about shame is incredible. here are two of her ted talks that hit different for me personally (listening to shame, the power of vulnerability)

also, if you can... maybe invest in a dbt skills workbook. i use the actual marsha linehan dbt skills training book, which can be a little complicated, but it works for me because my therapist is there to explain it. i’ve heard good things about the dbt skills workbook by matthew mckay, but i’ve never used it personally so i can’t attest to how comprehensive it is. if you can go to like, an actual bookstore and flip through the pages, that’d be ideal. but since we’re in a pandemic, idk how feasible that is. i’m not really a self-help book kind of person, but i’d recommend authors like pema chödrön, brené brown, kristen neff, and russ harris (and jon kabat-zinn? does he publish books? if he does then i rec them). if you’re in a post-secondary institution, try checking your school’s library! i’ve found a few books there. also, public libraries tend to have some of these books too. so if you don’t have the money to actually go out and buy these books, i’d suggest borrowing books from libraries and photocopying the pages.

Farmer's Market- Chapter 2!

Now, that everything has been sorted out, I suppose that getting back to our characters would be rational. For example, Monday, who has been searching through the old closets inside the house for some time, and tried on a sundress, a hat, and whatever she could find that didn't belong to Toby already.

-How do I look? she asked, as she tried on some red flannel shirt.

-Ridiculous, responded Toby, before he could stop himself.

-I don't mind, came back the answer, glass fingers buttoning up the shirt. But I think I might rip it by accident. Who cares anyway, it's all for the show, I couldn't pass as human if I tried.

Keeping in mind that there's really no good response to that, you have to excuse Toby for just leaving the room, and going downstairs, where he could still hear the sound of glass shards hitting the woden floor. It wouldn't be long until a well known red hat would appear in his doorway, along with it's owner, and begin questioning Monday. Or bring bad news. Maybe both.

-Do you know what this place needs? came a voice from upstairs, quite startling Toby, who almost dozed off on the couch.

-An actual person?

-No, of course, one of those weird tire swings they have in the movies! Could I borrow some rope?

-Well, yeah, but I don't have any tires. Where are you going to get one from?

-I'll take a walk through the city, surely I'll find something. I'll be ok, I won't get lost.

Toby didn't respond, but sat back on the couch. Not even once did the possibility of Monday getting lost cross his mind, but it would have made sense. With that in mind, he started dozing off again.

Oh, dear, surely you didn't expect Toby to be able to finish his nap, did you? It came to an end once three sharp knocks came from the front door. He stumbled over to the door, to let a well known silhouette enter his house. Two yellow eyes, quite some scales, a red dress and a hat to match, and high leather boots, and this was Lady Alligator, Private Investigator.

-Long time no see, dear Terrible Toby. I'm sure you know why I'm here, came a raspy, firm voice. I'm jumping over the formalities- her eyes narrowed -where's the statue? The girl.

-Ma'am, she, well, um- Monday just left, gulped Toby. He didn't know why, but he felt like he made a terrible mistake by letting her leave.

-In the city? Our city? Toby, are you an idiot? A fool? Do bones stop you from thinking? her voice grew harsher with every sentence. That is, until the familiar feeling of the tip of a knife pressed against her back stopped her.

-I want your name, and your business with Toby. And I want them short. I'm warning you, this isn't the first time I'm going through this, spat Monday, who snuck in the house while the others were busy talking.

Lady Alligator grinned. 'An attitude' she thought. 'I like those.'

-Are you out of your mind?! exclaimed Toby. The hell are you doing?? She's a friend!

-Oh, sighted Monday. By the way she was talking, I thought she was an burglar. I have a bad history with those, I think. Sorry.

-Oh, don't be. Being threatened with a knife, replied Lady Alligator extending a hand, isn't one of the things I take personally.

Only now did Toby realise he was basically a magnet for the town's weirdos. Would've thought he'd have realised it sooner (after the guy with the head in a jar, for example, but that's another story). "I gotta change the subject, in a non-awkward way" he thought. Maybe the other two find something in common.

-So.. I like your dress, Monday, he coughed, not realising that he didn't even notice it when she left.

'Nailed it.'

-It's a mourning dress, remarked Lady Alligator. Who are you mourning?

Monday looked down at her dress, a bit over the ankles, with flowing short sleeves, and a shirt collar. She seemed to enter a trance state again.

-Myself, I think.

-Well, sighed the other, shaking her head, I ain't one to judge. I dressed in men's clothes for the first 25 years of my human life, she shrugged.

-So, ma'am, piped up Toby, you said you were here for a reason?

-Yes, actually. First of all, I wanted to talk to Monday. Just to get an idea, of what she's like. I think I heard enough for that. Also, I wanted to… to…

She snapped her fingers, hoping that it'd help her remember what she had to say.

-Oh! Yes, I wanted to tell you something very important. Do you remember the farmer? That weird old man?

Toby shivered in disgust.

-What's with 'im? Weirdo came back again as a ghost, or what?

-Not exactly. There's a rumor in the town, that the farmer hid some papers somewhere on the farm grounds. Saying, -she cocked her head to the side and repeated mockingly- "The farm is to remain to whoever finds these papers". Weird stuff, I know.

-So?

-‘’So?‘’ Toby, are you daft? You might get thrown out of the farm by the townsfolk!

-Oh! Oh, yeah, that does sound bad. What are we gonna do?

-Search for the papers, clearly, joined in Monday. Otherwise, our only option would be burning the town down.

-You're right for the first part, but God, I wish I could see your thought process, sighed the other lady. I think he must've left some clues. Maybe somewhere in the house. Toby?

-Well, there was one thing. The only picture they left behind. Of an unfamiliar mansion. Maybe someone there can tell us something? I'll bring the picture.

Toby scrambled to his feet. He liked mysteries, and puzzles, and when the stakes were so high who could resist getting excited? He was back in the blink of an eye.

-Here. Maybe you know something about it, ma'am.

-Oh! The Asylum! Yes, yes, a wonderful place, outside town. I know the owner, great man, can be a bit jarring, if you know what I mean. I'm sure one of the guests can help us! There's so many, they've been there for so lon-

-Slow down! You're gonna break my glass with your voice, shivered Monday. What are you talking about?

-It's a place where, just as the name says, you can seek asylum. For an undetermined period of time. Pretty much as long as you need. Ridiculously cheap, sometimes the owner'll let you stay for free. What I'm saying is, a lot of people like us, no longer human, go there if they loose their homes or are simply lonely. I know the owner, he'll help us if he can.

-Can you drive us there? It'd be faster that way.

-Well, we shouldn't forget our manners, I'll give the owner a call first. He's often not home.

With that, she picked a phone up from her pocket and headed for the porch, to make the call.

-Does she have a name? asked Monday out of a sudden, startling Toby quite a bit.

-What do you mean?

-This woman. She must have a name, apart from the "Alligator" part.

-Well, yeah, I remember her havin‘ a name. It was… damn -Toby scratched his arm, trying to remember- Oh! Yeah! Adalana. Adalana Alligator, I think.

Monday nodded quietly. ‘‘Sounded like she would have pitied if she lacked a name’’ thought Toby, for no particular reason.

The door opened slightly, and in came the other. Oh, beaming. Surely bringing good news.

-He's home! Just came back. If you guys wanna hop in the car, we'll get to talk to him in, what, 20 minutes?

-But the swing! I found a tire, rolled it in here! Monday cried out like she just remembered it. We won't find it when we're back!

The Lady shot Toby a confused look, the look that tells you ‘‘What the hell is going on?’’, that tells you ‘‘I didn't understand a word.’’

-We will find it, no one would take an old tire. Except for you, he added.

For some reason, that seemed to work. So, they headed for the car: an old, red Maybach, which the author definitely didn't have to Google to get even the slightest idea of what it looked like.

thank god for friends who can handle small talks

it was 9pm and the movie finished later than i thought it would. i just got back from bandung to jakarta that day and i had been working for hours (on a sunday!!!) before seeing the movie. so you see, i was tired. then came the online taxi driver taking me home and he had a lot to say.

“do you think this is the right turn? i don’t want to miss the u-turn, i think this is it. oh yeah yeah the u-turn’s right there. i thought we missed it, that’s why i turned left to go back around the building, you know? turns out it’s here. it gets confusing around here with all the construction going on.”

i had lived in jakarta for less than a year, i didn’t know every u-turn so excuse me for being unhelpful.

“oh thank god there’s no traffic jam right now. the traffic’s usually crazy here. it would take an hour just to go a few hundred meters.”

i knew the traffic was usually crazy there. but i didn’t care enough to notice there was less traffic that day. nor to chat about it.

“you know i usually don’t pick up passengers from this mall. because of the traffic. other drivers say the rate is usually higher if you do pick-ups here but i’d rather not. i mean, the difference in rates isn’t even all that much anyway, so i usually just go to other parts of the city with less traffic.”

i was not at all invested in this conversation.

i have a whole thing with small talks. it has always been something i struggle with. every time a stranger or someone i don’t know well strikes up a conversation with me, i freeze and lose my words. i just go through the motions; nodding, saying “ahh” and “ohhh” on cue, and providing short answers to their questions. and then i feel my energy leaving me like purple galaxy crunch slime slipping through my fingers, except it’s not satisfying and you can’t ASMR it.

i’ve been thinking about this a lot. it’s not that i’m shy or quiet. i’m talkative with people i know (i even have a tendency of saying too much and regretting it later but let’s not talk about that). so what, pray tell, is wrong with me??? i want to change. i want to fix this. mind you, it’s not like i enjoy being a conversation assassin. i would like to be able to exchange personal trivia with a stranger and not feel like i have to recharge myself with a 5-hour nap afterwards.

i’ve done a thousand years of soul searching and i’ve over analyzed every awkward small talk encounters i’ve had and i think it comes down to two things:

1. either i genuinely don’t care enough about what the other party is saying

“so where are you from?”

“bandung”

“wow im from bandung too!”

yes, just like a couple million other people..

2. or i think a friend i’m with is more interesting to talk to so i’ll just shut up

this is what happened that day in the taxi. i was with astrid. she handles small talks like a seasoned professional. she responded enthusiastically, and asked questions in return (though i’d assume anyone with normal social DNA would be able to do the same). all the way home, all i had to do was think about what to order in for dinner.

but knowing why i clam up when it comes to small talks is only the first step in my journey to becoming a small talk guru. now i have to actually like making small talks.

i’ve tried self-help books (which i think are the biggest scams on earth but i tried anyway), wikihelp articles, blogs, and youtube videos. but those things and my small-talk-phobic lame ass are like online petitions and world problems: the former does jack shit to solve the latter. so i tried faking it and just copying what my small talk savvy friends do. i feigned interest and asked questions.

“how long have you been a driver for?”

“about 2 years now. i’ve been on and off though”

“i see... uhmm... uhhhhhh...... how has it been like..?”

“oh you know, it has its ups and downs. sometimes i get crazy customers, or have to drive them somewhere super far.”

“oh.. right...... haha.... uhmm...”

a mosquito listening to me in the car kicked the bucket that day. coroner’s report: frustration. RIP.

fear not, i have not given up.

recently, i went to this public speaking workshop at my mom’s request. it didnt just teach me about public speaking, it also taught me how to conduct one-on-one communication. to be frank, it had a lot of pseudoscience bullshit. but surprisingly there were also a few useful tips. like it had a whole exercise routine you can do to help ease communication (more on this workshop in a separate post, hopefully out by 2045), which has opened me up a little bit to small talks. the thought of a taxi driver asking things other than “is this the right way?” or “do you want to get off here?” doesn’t really make me cringe with dread anymore.

but i’ve still got a long way to go.

ultimately i think what’s holding me back is this voice in my head telling me how redundant and somewhat dangerous small talks are. why would a stranger want to know where i’m from anyway? or whether i’m studying or working? or how old i am? what would they do with that information? after all, that public speaking workshop did also talk about communicating with purpose and meaning what you say. if you dont really mean to know where i’m from and you’re just asking for the sake of filling the silence, then why bother? or do you have ill intentions towards me?

i mean, i’m willing to make small talks when necessary but i still believe the world would be a better place if people would just mind their own business...

alas, the world is still full of invasive extroverts.

and until the day i can hold a conversation with that taxi driver like i can with a close friend, i still need all the astrid’s of the world to cover for me.

Interesting flight

And here it is, the end of Klance AU Month. I actually did it, I did a story for every day, well except day 10 but I've done a whole series on YouTuber, I think I was allowed to skip an AU I knew I wasn't good at. A big thanks to @monthlyklance  for moding this event of sorts and being very nice as I sent them link after link of my fics because tumblr wouldn't show my stories in the tag search. Don't know if I'll do this again, maybe when I know time won't be taken up by classes. Wasn't my best fic I think but it's been a long day. Free Day (Single Parent AU)

“Are we going to see granny?” Sylvio asked, watching his uncle feed his little sister.

“Yeah, are you excited?” Lance asked, pulling the empty bottle away from Nadia’s mouth and then handing it to the young boy.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to spend my birthday with them. Uncle Lance?”

“Hmm, what’s wrong?”

“Can we go see mommy and papi?”

Lance’s smile faded a little. Sylvio’s parents, his own older brother and sister-in-law, died in a car crash. Lance had been babysitting his niece and nephew, being the only family member living in L.A like Marco, while everyone was in Florida. He’d just put the kids to sleep, wondering where his brother even was when he got a call. Everything had changed in that night. Being the only one of age that was in the area, Lance had gone from an uncle who was going to start working at the local kindergarten to being a stand in parent. It was hard, having to readjust, having to explain to his nephew that his parents weren’t coming back, to try and calm his niece who’d cry for her parents’ way of calming her. Sylvio had finally understood that his uncle was going to take care of him and his sister from then on, he seemed to grow up. He was only 4, Lance hated that he felt like he should be the one help take care of Nadia when all he should be concerned with was living as a 4 year old. Lance had sent the ashes of Marco and his wife Lisa to Florida to live with his parents after he’d find Sylvio staring at the urn for hours.

“Sure buddy. You need to tell them about all you’ve been up to.”

“We’re about to start boarding for Flight 239 from Los Angles to Florida. Please look at your ticket for your boarding group number. We’d like to invite our first class flyers and membership flyers to start boarding.”

“Grab our tickets buddy.” Lance instructed as he fitted Nadia into the front carrier, feeling her little breaths against his chest. “What number we got?”

“1!” Sylvio called, showing off the tickets to his uncle.

“That’s right. You hold on tight to that ok? I’ll hold our bag alright?”

“We now invite group 1 to board.”

“That’s us! Let’s go Uncle Lance.” Sylvio said, jumping from his seat and running to the line. Lance smiled apologetically to the people who’d been cut off by Sylvio. The flight attendants smiled down at Sylvio as they took the tickets and scanned them before pointing then in the right direction.

“Whoa, buddy, not so fast.” Lance said as Sylvio ran down the corridor to the plane.

“Hello little one.” The flight attendant at the entrance said, helping Sylvio onto the plane. “What’s your name?”

“Sylvio. That’s my sister Nadia and my Uncle Lance.”

“Is it your first time on a plane?”

“Yeah! I’m going to see my granny.”

“Oh, well when you go see her, you’ll have to show her this.” The flight attendant pulled out a pin of wings and attached it to Sylvio’s shirt.

“Uncle Lance, look!”

“Looking good buddy. Can you ask her where our seat is?”

“Oh, where are we sitting?” Sylvio asked, letting the flight attendant look at the ticket.

“You’re number 12 B which means you’re on the left. Do you know where your left hand is?”

“Yes!” he relied holding up his left hand.

“Let’s go buddy. Thank you.”

Using his left hand, Sylvio counted the chairs they passed slowly, Lance reminding him which numbers came next. They reached their seats and Lance had Sylvio climb into the seat by the window when he realised he had a problem. Nadia was still on his chest and he had to lift the carry on suitcase into the overhead bin. He could take her off and lay her down in the seats, but he could feel her start to squirm and he didn’t trust Sylvio to keep her still.

“Do you need help?” Lance looked to see the person standing behind him. he only had a backpack on, his sweatshirt drowning him.

“Um, if you could? I don’t want to risk hitting her.”

“Of course, back up a bit.” Like the suitcase weighed nothing, he picked it up and slid it into the overhead bin. Once it was set, he gestured for Lance to sit down. He waited for Lance the sit in his seat next to Sylvio before pulling his bag off and sitting next to him.

Their seat was the one right after the last first class seat so in no time, Sylvio climbed off his seat and sat on the floor. Lance didn’t say anything as it would still be some time until he had to sit his nephew down again and focused on making sure Nadia’s baby bag, that also held his laptop and tablet he’d given to Sylvio for the trip was under his seat. He didn’t want to have to shove it in the overhead bin. He saw that their aisle mate was the same, shoving his bookbag under his seat.

“Excuse me,” one of the flight attendants asked, “we have basinets if you want one for your daughter?”

“Niece and thank you.” Lance said, patting Nadia as she started to whine a little.

“You probably have time to feed her before we take off.” Their aisle mate said.

Lance looked over at him. he’d stripped his sweatshirt, not bothering to fix his shirt, which even its mess showed his fit figure. He also noticed how long his hair was. It was past his shoulders and looked really soft. He hoped Nadia didn’t spot it. Lisa had long hair so Nadia was used to long hair being near her when she was being held.

“She already ate. Thankfully she got hungry before we had to board.”

The guy looked down at Sylvio who was looking under the seats. “You having fun down there?”

“Uh huh!”

He let out a small laugh, smiling at Sylvio. Thank god, he seemed to like kids. “Cute kid.”

“It’s in his genes. We McClains are adorable.”

“I’m sure.”

Everyone was seated and Lance had coaxed Sylvio up to his seat for take-off. Their aisle mate offered him gum to help with the pressure build-up, letting Sylvio take an extra one. Nadia had dozed off and Lance hoped she’d stay like that for a while. Sylvio’s eyes were glued to the open window as the plane went down the runway and started to pick up speed.

“We’re going fast!”

“Keep chewing buddy, it’ll help your ears.” Lance said.

Soon the plane tipped up and they took off. Sylvio’s chewing slowed as he watched the world below the plane grow smaller. Lance glanced down as Nadia’s face scrunched up. He gently shushed her, hoping she stayed asleep. As they got higher though, she moved around more and woke up crying. Lance groaned in his head. Crying baby and they weren’t allowed to move around yet, just his luck.

Sylvio, thank god, turned away from the window and started asking his sister what was wrong. Usually it would calm her down slightly but Lance guessed the pressure was hurting her too much for her to pay attention to her brother.

“Is it the pressure bothering her?” His aisle mate asked.

“Yeah, I’m really sorry.”

“It’s fine, really. I know people get annoyed by it but babies can’t really control these things.”

Lance was extremely grateful of the understanding man. Finally the seatbelt sign turned off and Lance blocked out what the head flight attendant was saying as he undid his seatbelt and was let out by the still slightly ruffled man. “Sylvio, stay here ok?”

“Ok.”

Lance tried to ignore the looks he got as Nadia continued to cry. He hadn’t gotten the chance to grab her pacifier though he doubted she’d keep it in her mouth. He gently shushed her, bouncing as he tried to calm her down. Thankfully her cries lessened but she still whined loudly.

“Shh, shh, you’re ok.” He whispered when he saw the same man coming towards him. he moved away from the bathroom thinking he was heading there.

“Your, um, nephew, asked me check on you?”

“Sylvio yeah. He knows he can’t do it himself. You don’t have to.”

“I don’t mind. What’s her name?”

“Nadia.”

“Nadia.” He called, standing next to Lance. “Nadia.”

Hearing a new voice, Nadia tired looking for it, her whining quieting some.

“Do you want to try holding her?”

“If it’s ok.”

“Sure. Help me?” he asked, pointing to the buckle on his back.

It was unclipped and Lance slipped the handles off, keeping Nadia close to him. he let the other man take her, easily taking her into his arms.

“You’re pretty good.”

“My brother has a kid, I volunteered at their day-care.”

Nadia’s whining stopped as she stared up at the new face. She blinked and reached out her hand.

“Wait, Nadia, no!” Lance said as she gripped his hair, holding it firm in her grip. Her gaze was completely fixed on the long black strands in her fist. “I am so sorry. She has a thing with hair, she doesn’t let – no don’t put it in your mouth! Oh god, Nadia.”

“It’s ok. I mean there are worse ways to spend a flight. I never did introduce myself, I’m Keith.” He said, his hand pulling Nadia’s fist away from her mouth.

“Lance, hi. Um, she’s not going to let go.”

“It’s ok, I don’t mind holding her. Besides, you still have your nephew to worry about.”

“Um, right. Thanks.” Lance pulled off the carrier entirely and lead them back to there seats where Sylvio stared at his sister in Keith’s arms.

“She liked his hair?”

“You know your sister. Do you want your tablet?”

“Yes please.”

“How old is he?” Keith asked letting Nadia stand on his lap so he wouldn’t risk her pulling out his hair.

“4.”

“He talks a lot for a 4 year old.”

“Another gene of McClains, we don’t have an off switch.” Lance said, opening the armrest to pull out the try for Sylvio, letting him navigate the tablet on his own. “So you volunteer at your um?”

“Nephew. I picked him up one day and was asked to stick around to help with something and the next thing I knew, I kept going back. I work in security so kids except my nephew I never thought were my forte. Turns out I’m not bad with them.”

The room was warm, a sickening mix of heat and the scent of flowers, an almost direct contrast to the lifeless cold of the outside winter. In the center, lying on the bed was you. You had been toying with the bed covers before he walked in. He was as beautiful as the last time you saw him.

Plump, porcelain skin and cool, dark eyes to match his messy black hair. If anything he reminded you of the season you were in right now, a cold beauty.

He took his place in the seat next to your bed. Rightfully, you couldn’t help but think.

His eyes seemed to avoid you, only snapping to focus on you when you covered his hand with yours.

‘Hi.’ Your eyes searched his for a small tell, anything. Although it was everything but his eyes that gave him away.

He didn’t say anything back to you.

‘You achieved it, your dream. I’m so proud.’

He stared hopelessly at you, as if he had nothing and finally he showed some signs that you existed, clasping your hands.

‘I’m sorry.’

There was stunned silence on your part, only your intertwining breaths filling the space.

‘What are you sorry for? If anyone is sorry, it’s me. We should have had our eventual reunion under better circumstances but better to have it than never.’

He didn’t smile and kept his gaze cast down. You caressed his cheek, guiding his head up.

‘You’ve accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. I remember you had the natural talent but now it’s skill that you have as well. I’ve always been in awe of you and that feeling has only increased with time.’

He met your eyes, only for a moment but for you, it was a lifetime that ended too quickly. He stood up, pacing the room and you saw him trying to collect himself, his thoughts and everything he wanted to say to you before it was too late because this time at least, he had a chance to make things right.

‘I’m sorry for all those things I said. I’m sorry that that was the last time and although I didn’t know it, I should have been more careful and treasured you.

‘I’m sorry for all of my insecurities and giving them the shape of you. Im sorry that I wasn’t good enough for you and that it’s taken me so long to say all of this, but there is one thing I know for certain and can say with confidence.

‘Everytime I look out onto a crowd, I look for you. I search for those eyes that never seemed to tire of me . I look for the lips that knew exactly how to tell me everything without a single words passing through them.

‘Let me tell you, there were so many times I thought I saw you. I-’

‘You did Xing. I couldn’t stay away. I was at every fanmeet and concert, no matter how small.’

‘Then why didn’t you just-’

Silence overtook you both again. It was easier now though. He understood. You knew that much.

And as he turned away to make his exit, you grabbed his hand, entwining your fingers like all those years ago.

‘Sing me a song please.’ It’s one thing to hear his voice amongst thousands and thousands of people, but it’s another to have him just for you.

He sighed, defeated. How could he say no, to you of all people and in these circumstances?

But once again, you couldn’t finish your sentence and hid the words that would poison the atmosphere.

The funeral was long over and your parents had been gone for half an hour but they stayed, gazes still fixed on the freshly filled grave and the rectangle of disturbed dirt.

The two of them stood together in silence.

There was so much to be said, yet no one was saying anything. Without a single shared glance, they turned and left, going their own ways.

It wasn’t until the following spring and you in the ground for a year. The two of them met by chance in a coffee shop. Xukun invited Xingjie to sit with him and although he was in middle of working on his next album, he couldn’t say no.

History began to repeat itself with them sitting in silence, staring into the rapidly cooling coffees.

‘I saw you last month.’

Xingjie looked up.

‘At her grave.’

‘Oh.’

He felt guilty now. He didn’t know why but something gnawed at his heavy heart.

‘I’m glad you were there. I’m sure that she enjoyed the company.’

Xingjie didn’t know what compelled him to say what he said next but he did.

‘I try to go as often as I can. Make up for lost time, I don’t know.’

Xukun nodded. He knew the situation, he could understand what Xingjie meant.

‘But she was always helpful when I would write, just her being there was enough.’

Xukun looked at this man in front of him. He seemed cold, as he always had but when he spoke of you there was a sudden gentility to his words and moves. It made Xukun happy, that even after all that time neither of you forgot each other in your hearts.

‘Y/n was always talking about you. Blasting your songs around the house and dancing along.’

They laughed together, the image of you prancing around in their minds.

‘They were terrible at dancing.’

‘Oh yeah. I tried to teach them a long time ago and that didn’t go too well.’

The air around them was warm again. Not from the hot aroma of coffee or the people that sat in the booths around them, but from them, their familiarity with you and the endearing memories they had of you.

‘You know, I actually went to your last concert.’

‘Really?’

‘Yeah, I had never been before. Y/n liked to go alone.’

Xingjie hummed a response.

‘It was really good. I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I had a lot of fun. It’s a bit embarrassing to admit but I actually know all of the fan chants for your songs.’

A shy smile crept onto Xukun’s face and the tips of his ears were pink.

‘Really? Did you cheer along?’

‘Maybe.’

‘Thanks, that means a lot.’

Xukun furrowed his brows slightly, drawing a crease between them. Xingjie caught the expression.

‘I just-‘ He sighed.

‘Hearing the crowd is one of my favourite things about doing music. I’ve always wanted to be able to support myself and my life with music, so it’s the people who those voices belong to that allow me to do that. They mean the most to me. I’m living my dream because of them.’

Xukun understood now, exactly what you had seen in Xingjie, aside from his handsome exterior. He had an attractive heart, filled with compassion and loyalty. He never seemed insincere but it was visible, the change that came over him when he spoke of things he loved.

‘Well, I’ll be happy to go to another and I will make sure to cheer loudly.’

Xingjie broke out into a pleased smile, trying to hide it by sipping on his drink.

They exchanged stories of you and talked about what they had done with themselves until their cups were empty and the murmur of people calmed.

The tree on the corner was dark against the white sun. Its branches were filled with buds ready to burst and decorate the tree.

‘You know there were times that I couldn’t sleep because she would be tossing and turning and the only name on her lips, while she slept and when she woke up, was yours. I hope you know how much she loved you and how lucky you are to have had a love like that.’

‘I do. She shouldn’t have even known me but she spoke to me, got to know me and for that time, I have been and will be eternally grateful.’

There was a silence now between them, and like the winter winds had stolen you away, the spring breeze thawed the cold hearts of the men who loved you. 

‘She loved you too. Maybe she didn’t love us in the same way, but you meant too much to her that she didn’t try and come back to me. She couldn’t bear to hurt you, and if that doesn’t say something, I don’t know what will.’ 

They stood on the pavement for another moment.

‘I’m actually working on my album right now. If you’re free, do you want to join me?’

A slow nod and the men left, finding the company they had been missing for a year now and the pieces of you that you had left in each of them.

What a hassle, I couldn’t help but sigh as I looked at the dark gray sky. The rain was pouring heavily all around. I’m thankful that I was walking by the bus stop when the rain was just starting. At least now, I have some shelter above my head just like the other people standing with me.

All I wanted was to get home after a long and tiring day but with the rain, I couldn’t continue the walk home. I could feel the weight of my cello on my shoulders—a constant reminder of how my day had gone. The tips of my fingers were burning a bit due to the intense practice that I went to earlier today.

The rain continued to fall as the buses came and went after loading passengers. Soon enough, the crowd under the bus stop had disappeared, leaving me and just one other person.

My legs were starting to ache so I moved to sit down on the bench, my cello case in between my knees. The other person did the same, sitting one seat away from me. We both glanced at each other shyly and smiled softly.

“No umbrella?” He asked, chuckling.

“Yeah,” I sighed. “You too?”

He just nodded and then we were back to just letting the deafening rain echo all around us.

It seemed like it would take a long while for the rain to let up so I took out my earphones. I quickly plugged it into my phone after I let placed one pod into my ear. It was like my fingers had lives of their own as they automatically pressed and scrolled through my phone to find my favorite indie folk band.

At the sound of their first notes, I felt at ease.

A smile played on my lips as I took in the sounds. I had to push the volume a little higher to hear better with the rain in the background.

A lot of people had questioned my taste in music whenever they asked me about my favorite band. I would always give them names of independent artists who they have no idea about. Although there were some who’d say that some artists sound familiar. Still, the looks on their faces used to haunt me until the day that I accepted that mainstream music just wasn’t for me.

Out of all the independent artists that I would tell them, my favorite was Verdant Sky, an indie folk band that practically no one knew about. I’ve asked my friends who were into folk bands but none of them had heard of Verdant Sky. Then again, I probably wouldn’t have found out who they were if I didn’t stumble upon their music one time when I was searching the Internet. They were like this hidden gem that I was unable to unearth after long hours of digging.

I was humming along to the song, completely forgetting the stranger beside me. Which is why I yelped when he suddenly asked,

“I’m sorry but were you just humming a song by Verdant Sky?”

With wide eyes, I turned towards him. Both of us were looking at each other in surprise.

“You know Verdant Sky?” I asked, pulling out my earphone. At the same time, I observed his facial features and the way his dark hair fell on his forehead. I had also observed how casually he had dressed yet it suited him well.

“They’re my favorite,” he beamed, probably glad to find someone who shared the same music taste as him. His eyes shone brightly just like his smile.

“Oh my God!” I squealed before laughing in embarrassment at how excited I was. “They’re mine too!”

“I love their song Golden Sky,” he said at the same time that I declared that,

“Golden Sky is my favorite song,”

I felt my cheeks burn at our declaration. I was biting down on my lip as I tried to fight off the smile that was forming on my lips. For the first time, I was feeling some kind of excitement coursing through me because I found someone who probably loves the same music as I do. I mean, it’s not every day that I find someone who knows Verdant Sky.

The man in front of me continued to smile widely, his eyes turning into crescents. How adorable, I mused in my head.

“I’m Hyunsik, by the way,”

“(Y/N),” I introduced myself, placing my hand forward for a shake. He quickly took it and I felt warm at the contact of his skin with mine. His grip was tight yet comfortable at the same time. It’s kind of emitted that feeling of safety.

We quickly delved into a deep conversation about independent artists and folk bands. With each word that he spoke, I could feel myself being drawn towards him more. I knew he was a stranger but at the same time, I felt like I’ve known him for a long while.

I couldn’t help but notice how passionate he was as he spoke about the topic. The way his eyes shone was different from how they did when we both found out that we love the same band. It was fascinating. Somehow, I wanted to drown in his eyes. His voice, too, was melodic despite it being deep. When he chuckled, I could feel my nerves tingle at the sound.

We talked casually with no dead airs between us. The conversation kept on going because we continuously asked each other questions, creating endless topics. It was almost as if we had created our own little bubble under the shelter of the bus stop. We didn’t even notice how many people had come and gone. They were all a blur and the only thing in focus was Hyunsik.

“So, you’re from the music department too?” He had asked while nodding to my cello case. We had just both found out that we were both studying at the same university.

“Yeah. Cello major, obviously. You?” I softly laughed.

“Piano major,” he proudly beamed. “Are you part of the orchestra? One of my friends is a violinist there and he said that practices have been bloody. Literally and figuratively,”

I chuckled because it was true. We practiced until our fingers bled. “Yeah. With the competition coming up, we want to perfect everything,”

He hummed. Just as we were about to start another topic, the rain slowly came to a stop.

There was a disappointed feeling hanging above us because we both knew that we would be separating ways. Our bubble was about to burst. When I looked at his face, there was a small sad smile on his lips and his eyes. Somehow, in the little time that we’ve spent together, I felt the most comfortable I have been when with a stranger.

“I guess it’s time to go,” he sighed. “But we’ll see each other again. I’m sure,”

I smiled. “Yeah. The music department isn’t that gigantic anyway,”

“If we won’t bump into each other, I’ll see you at the competition. My friend would have my head if I don’t show up,”

We both shared a laughed as we stood. When we faced each other, it almost felt as if we were both trying to memorize each other’s faces. I don’t know how long we stood that way but we snapped out of our trance when a car honked a few ways away.

I pursed my lips as I moved to sling the cello behind me while he adjusted his shoulder bag. I watched him as he licked his lips, probably trying to think of something to say.

“It was nice meeting you,”

“Despite the rain,” I commented, earning a soft and short chuckle from the man.

“Well… I’ll see you around,” he smiled warmly before we waved at each other and went opposite ways.

The whole walk home, there was a bounce in my step. I didn’t mind if the cello was a bit heavy and would repeatedly hit my back. My heart felt light as I basked in the rays of the golden sun that was starting to peak through the clouds, awaiting the day we’ll run into each other again while his name repeatedly crossed my head.

To keep things simple I am calling the current car I have Car A and the new car as Car B. I have insurance that runs out on CAR A in 2 months time which I want to keep on the basis that I don't want to lose my no claims bonus for this current year by cancelling the insurance. So long story short -- I totaled my car in an accident which was my fault back in December, and unfortunately did not have collision coverage on my insurance policy. I am a full-time student and have been unable to afford purchasing another car since then, and do not know when I will be able to afford another car.
