For the most part though, this book is just a ton of pin-ups, split into two sections... first up is the "Avengers" which is funny cause this kinda has some spoilers in it; first is that Hank is coming back to the team as Giant-Man, but also that Deathcry is 100% gonna join up with the team... Also it Thor is very much not a part of the team right now cause he is out in space dealing with Warrior's madness.

Also, those Sersi and Black Widow pin-ups are awful...

The Avengers will take a lot of abuse from the public at large. But come for one of their members who isn't present, or especially one who they believe has fallen in the line of duty. And the fury you will find will leave something very cold in your shadow. Captain America 444

With all this hype for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I have been desperately hoping that we get to see one of my favourite guardians, and one who I feel is criminally underrated, Bug!!

(Spoilers for Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest ahead)

To fully explain why bug is so underrated, we have to go back to the Annihilation event. Annihilation was a huge crossover event from 2006 that brought all of Marvel's cosmic superheroes together to fight a common foe, Annihilus. This helped pull the cosmic side of Marvel back into popularity and gave a fanbase to characters who were previously obscure. One of these obscure characters was Peter Quill AKA Star Lord. While not playing a huge role, Star Lord was an entertaining side character who seemed to gain the largest popularity boost from the event.

This takes us into Annihilation: Conquest! Things are kicked off when Star Lord tries to aid the Kree empire in rebuilding after the war. He accidently gets them enslaved by robots. The Kree respond by drafting him into their military and forcing him to go on suicide missions for them. But he's not alone! Star Lord is joined by a cast of characters so obscure, only the most intense Marvel fans would know who they are. Joining Star Lord was Gabriel Vargas AKA Captain Universe, Sharra Neramani AKA Deathcry, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and our favourite two toed guardian, Bug! This series reads almost like a blueprint for the Guardians of the Galaxy and is a good read, especially if you're a Guardians fan!! The team goes on missions, people die, and eventually the day is saved!

This brings us to the formation of the modern day Guardians of the Galaxy. Star Lord feels guilty for accidentally starting a second huge space disaster only a few years after the first, so he assembles a team to prevent any more from happening. He does this by grabbing all the heavy hitters from the Annihilation: Conquest event: Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Adam Warlock, and Phyla-Vell. He also recruits every surviving member of his team except Bug, this being: Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Mantis. The team gets a base in Knowhere, where they meet and recruit chief of security Cosmo! Having Bug be the only surviving member of Star Lord's free trial Guardians still standing who doesn't get recruited is pretty awful for the guy, but he does get his moment to shine! When the team encounters drama and half the members quit, Rocket reforms the team, recruiting Bug and Major Victory!! On the first mission of the new team, Bug cracks jokes about how he wasn't good enough to make the original cut of the roster.

From left to right we have: Phyla-Vell (now going by Martyr), Jack Flag (one of Captain America's sidekicks from the 90's), Star Lord, Gamora, and Bug!!

Bug stayed a loyal and dedicated member of the team until the end of the first Guardians comic run, which led to the team being rebooted to match the movies closer, with the only members being Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot and Iron Man (for some reason). As far as I have read, that is the last time Bug has been featured on the team.

Not only was Bug a cool looking, fun character on the team, he had been there pretty much since the start. I would really love to see him in the MCU one day, but Marvel has had issues with the licensing of the character (he's owned by Hasbro), so we might not get to see him anytime soon. I would really love to see him make a return in the comics though!!

Marvel Fun Fact: The evil royal Shi’ar known as Deathbird, aka Cal’syee Neramani, has four to five suspected children, all of them hybrids with another race. Blackout and White Noise, two members of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, call her “mother”. The pair of them look nothing like Shi’ar themselves, suggesting they are either adopted or from a father of a different species. Deathcry, aka Sharra Neramani, is shown to be part-Shi’ar and the niece of Lilandra Neramani, meaning that either Deathbird or her brother D’Ken is her Shi’ar parent. It is heavily hinted that Deathbird is her mother. Heather Cameron aka Lifeguard of the X-Men was revealed to be half-Shi’ar as well, and of royal heritage to boot. Like Deathcry, it was not revealed explicitly who her mother was, but the hints were towards Deathbird. Her brother Davis was not shown to possess Shi’ar traits, suggesting he either has a different mother or his traits are still latent (as Heather’s originally were) In one alternate future, Deathbird has a child, Aliyah, with Bishop of the X-Men. Aliyah does not resemble a Shi’ar in any way besides a single marking on one of her eyes.

Sure this looks cool but also lol at the Avengers traveling 200 miles in what, 10 seconds. Also, the fallout from just a whole island disappearing in the ocean would just like... wipe large amounts of coast out of existence with huge waves.

So we get this reveal that the Kree were working for the Collector, and also he has one of the WORST 90s character redesigns...

The classic bad guy move of going "Surely you don't have enough time to stop what we have started so we are going to just head out and leave you all on your own... toodles."

The Kree are looking to set off a second Nega-Bomb, the same thing that wiped their race off the map, but this time here on Earth.

A whole lot of melodrama going on here... with the whole love triangle with Dane, Sersi, and Crystal... and we have Vision and Deathcry as a bit of comedic foil... also that "indeed?" of Vision who sounds like he is about to take his shot here is really funny until you realize that they are gonna retcon Deathcry into being like 15 of 16 very shortly...
