The day he showed her how to shoot the rifle, they both kneeled after it was his turn. He put his hands underneath the rifle, he slid his hands over hers and moved them to the right places. He said to hold it straight and even, keep her finger off the trigger until ready, align it with the target, and shoot. She tries to aim although she knows she is unskilled; she may be easily embarrassed but she is not scared. She shoots three or four times.

“You hit it.” She hears a soft voice behind her. She turns, excited not only from the adrenaline of shooting his rifle, or the possibility of hitting the target, but because of how he looked at her. His eyes met hers, as a small smile spread across his face.

“I did?” She replies. He motioned to the targets lined up in front of them, further up in her grandma’s backyard. “Look, that little target is moving.”  It was moving. It was a small one, meaning it would have been harder to hit. It was just luck that she hit it she thought, and she looked at him and laughed. She wanted this eccentric, random stranger to stay in her life. The soft-spoken man, with a tough exterior.

If only I mattered enough for you to recognize how this experience was exhilarating to me. That I was not afraid of shooting a gun with a man I met a week before. That each day of the three months we saw each other, I saw ways that I could love you. As you walk away with your gun in your holster, you can live with the decision of choosing someone else. Will she hit the target too?

"But the only time I'll open up is when I'm firing"

Would you ever consider/have you ever competed at the olympics for archery?

I have not, and the simple reason for that is that I'm not good enough!

The longer reason is that while I practice several styles of archery that are designed to optimise several things (speed, versatility, ability to shoot from upside down on a pole), none of them are the quite specific style that Olympic archers use to optimise for extreme accuracy at long distance (which is, after all, what the event of Olympic Archer is about).

But even if I did train Olympic style, I almost certainly would not be good enough!

feels worth mentioning as a long time opponent of the 21st century hawkish nature of Israeli politics that… we’ve seen a lot of comparisons between the U.S. and Israel when it comes to politics, and many are worth pondering, but the U.S. has simply never ever had anything like the second intifada to push the civilian populace into hard right hawkish politics. (Yes there was 9/11 and I recognize that was awful. I’m talking about a years long protracted campaign from terror groups kilometers away from where middle class Americans raise their children. There’s simply no comparison.) the U.S. got here on their own with the vague image of a violent criminal invader, not an actual reality of hundreds of civilian deaths from targeted bombings on buses and in pizza shops and public arenas. This is not to let either the government of the state of Israel NOR the U.S. off the hook but it IS to say that I don’t think there’s a single thing inherently more peaceful about Americans than Israelis (or any other country that’s had a sharp right wing political swing) and I cannot imagine the kind of fascist hellhole the U.S. would be with even a quarter of the targeted political violence experienced in IL

i find it kinda laughable when it gets pointed out that jinx being included in silco's fight for zaun, in missions and engineering weapons(assuming he encouraged her from the beginning), and such have made her think that level of violence is just the way of life(and that it is some sad revelation about her specifically) because..... well, yeah it is.

do y'all think children get to be children in zaun????? from the very beginning we see teenagers ganging up on children, enforcers come and go as they please, vi and powder were there when the big bridge tragedy happened!!! violence IS part of everyone's childhood and 'normalcy' in zaun, there is absolutely no way powder or isha could've escaped from it. i have to wonder what show are y'all watching.

I can barely begin to express how much the course of my life has been altered because of a 40 minute highlight video done by @jelloapocalypse and friends riffing over a 20 year old sky pirate game.

I made an off-handed comment after watching it together with two of my longtime friends, about how much I wish I had what Vyrsa had, and one of those friends STRAIGHT-UP TELLS ME that her and her wife have been crushing on me for a while.

The feeling was mutual, though I'd been of course hesitant to even hint at it.

Anyway now a few months later, we're a thruple, and we decided to honor the genesis of our relationship by cosplaying as the trio that made it a reality for my 30th birthday!

i am here to report that the US, while having lost the Olympic sniping competition, did take gold and silver in the men's skeet shooting competition. which is the kind of shooting where you hold a rifle and wait for a moving target (in official games, a clay disk (also called a clay pigeon)) to be launched into the air and then you shoot it midflight.

The only reason I know about this is because my mom told me stories about how my great-grandma (picture a tiny black woman from rural, south Georgia) would go out in a farm field and make the boys throw empty beer bottles into the air for her to shoot down. It's a very country sport and my great grandma was a good crack shot back in the day (she once did a warning shot at my great-grandpa but that's unrelated.)
