Lucia was buttoning the last buttons to her white button up shirt, she slipped on her navy blue suit jacket that matched her navy trousers. She put on a pair of black loafers and slipped on a few important rings and tucked one of her curls behind her ear. Lucia had been convinced by her mother to let her naturally curls out for the day and not have her every day braid crown.

“Look at you!” Ellen cooed as she stood at the bathroom door smiling proudly at her youngest and only daughter, “I am so proud of you Lucia Winfred.” Ellen gently brushed a hair off her forehead. Ellen couldn’t be more proud of her kids but there is always a different level of proudness when it comes to her daughter, as she continues to make history and never letting anyone stop her fork achieving what she wants.

“Thank you.” Lucia mumbled softly leaning into the comforting touch of her mother.

“Everyone has gotten here.” Ellen told her daughter, Lucia wanted to get ready as late as could.

Luica nodded and followed her mother out of the bathroom and through her bedroom and down the stairs and she saw the house packed with friends and family.

Lucia stood by her mother as they went around saying their hi’s to everyone before Ellen told her to go sit at the couch as the draft was about to start.

Lucia sat down and fiddled with the cuffs of her suit as Quinn sat down on the right side of her.

Quinn nudged his little sister softly, Lucia looked over at her oldest brother and he just smiled nudging her again.

“You know i’m suppose to be the annoying one.” Lucia quickly quipped to Quinn, Quinn just laughed and fondly smiled at his sister he could tell she was nervous and wanted to keep her mind off everything.

“You are.” Jack sassed as he sat down on the other side of his sister and gently pulled one of her curls, he softly smiled enjoying the eye roll he got in return.

“It’s not like you’re any better Rowdy.” Lucia sarcastically nodded back at Jack.

“Ouch Moosey.” Jack gasped dramatically holding his chest in fake offense.

The three straightened up as they felt the look coming from their mother as she sat down across from them.

The Draft started and the ducks has just picked the third pick, now the Devils were walking up to the stage.

Lucia took a slight breath and stayed looking right at the tv.

“With the fourth overall pick, the New Jersey Devils are proud to pick from the USA development program, Lucia Hughes!” Lucia barely even stood before she was tackled by Jack, who was literally shaking with excitement at the of thought of being able to play with his little sister.

Quinn put a hand on his sister’s back keeping her from getting knocked over by Jack, and quickly hugged her too.

Lucia let out a laugh but hugged both of her brothers back just as tightly as she realized she just got a step closer to accomplishing her life long dream.

Ellen cupped her daughter’s face feeling her eyes filled with tears and pulled her into a tight hug.

Lucia hugged Jim tightly and he kissed her cheek before she turned to the rest of family and hugging all of them.

Lucia after a few minutes had been congratulated by everyone and she walked back to the couch where her brothers were waiting.

Jack picked up the Devils hat and his jersey, he handed the jersey to his baby sister and watched with a proud smile as she slipped it on and Jack thought that she fit the Devils jersey.

Jack smiled and gently put the hat onto her head and he tapped the top of her head, “I’m so proud moose.” Jack soflty spoke quietly for only Lucia and Quinn to hear.

“Thanks Jacky.” Lucia beamed back, Quinn smiled bittersweet at his younger siblings. Quinn was proud of his sister but he also couldn’t help but be sad that the three of them couldn’t all be together but he’s glad at least now Jack will have Lucia with him.

Lucia sat back down on the couch between her two brothers as they were interviewed, Lucia answered everything he has to ask before finishing it up and saying bye to all of the cameras. Lucia was very glad they were gone, she hated them.

Lucia luckily was able to sneak off for a few minutes and away from everyone, she hopped onto the kitchen counter and started eating some of the snacks in the kitchen.

“I’m not surprised.” Jim fondly shook his head as he walked into the kitchen, anyone that’s knows Lucia knows she is always hungry and that she hates being around a lot of people. Jim had a feeling he would find her in kitchen eating and being away from everyone.

“Don’t know what you’re talking about Dad.” Lucia mumbled as she shoved one of the chocolate chip cookies she knows her mother baked.

“Sure kiddo.” Jim fondly smiled he walked over to her and picked a cookie up as well, he gently touched her face pulling her closer kissed the top of her head, “I’m proud of you Kiddo.” Jim has always been better at actions than words but he knew his kids need some words every once in awhile.

“Thanks Dad.” Lucia soflty mumbled and grabbed another cookie shoving into her mouth making her Dad laugh and shake his head as he headed out of the kitchen.

Lucia made a happy sound and she looked around the kitchen and saw a plate of spring rolls from a small Chinese restaurant in Michigan that she loves. She grabbed a few and hopped back onto the counter happily munching.

“Baby Hughes eating?” Josh Norris gasped sarcastically as Quinn and him walked into the kitchen, he knows Lucia could out eat anyone and quite literally has to have the faster metabolism ever.

Lucia just shrugged and kept eating the spring roll. Jack walked in and made a happy sound seeing the spring rolls in his sister’s hands and he walked over to her trying to grab one from her hand.

Lucia glared smacking his hand away, “Get your own.” Lucia glared at her brother and gestured to the whole platter of them on the other side of the kitchen.

Quinn just smiled he missed his siblings a lot through out the year and he’s tends to even miss their little arguments during the season.

By this time, you had known Guro for seven years, and you were madly in love with the norwegian, and she, with you. You were both 25, having been born only a day apart. Today was your four year anniversary. It had taken you guys a very long amount of time to start dating. You had known each other by playing for Norway, but you were in denial about your sexuality for a while, and so was Guro. You had told people you were best friends, but best friends hearts don’t start beating like crazy when they lie their head down on their 'friends' lap.

You had planned a whole thing for your anniversary. You had asked Sam Kerr, Erin Cuthbert and Millie Bright to distract your girlfriend for a few hours, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, so that you could set up your appartement. Now you really weren’t into the lovey dovey things. You would get her flowers and chocolates and jewelry to express your love for her, you wouldn’t use words. Acts of service were your love language. And so, when Guro left, you told her you would be out till 6:30 because you had a meeting with Nike, your sponsor.

Guro didn’t think you were neglecting your anniversary, she had made you a nice breakfast in the morning and you guys had cuddled in bed for an hour, just being happy you were with each other. So, she didn’t argue when the girls asked her to hang out, although she did wish you were there.

Your plan for their night together was a really big throwback. You would be building a blanket fort, and ordering her her favorite food. Why? The night you and Guro had first kissed, you were babysitting Guro’s niece, who had insisted on building a blanket fort. Except turns out that she got tired halfway through and fell asleep. So you and Guro had brought her to bed, and then you decided to keep on building the fort. You had drifted to sleep together under a ceiling of blankets, and when you woke up at 2:00 in the morning, Guro was awake and looking at you. And you kissed her. The rest- as corny as it is- was history.

You got to work quickly, starting by cleaning the living room. You then built the fort. You were pretty handy, and very skilled in the art of entertaining children because both your older siblings were married and had children. And your go too was always forts. You used blankets, pillows, and put fairy lights in it.

After that was set up, you took a quick picture of it and then went on your phone. You had ordered food to come at 6:15, and it was all your favorite things. There was saag paneer with rice, onion bajii, pizza and sushi. It was going to be a feast. All you had to do is make a baked Alaska. Her favorite desert. It was simple, just ice cream coated with graham crackers and whipped cream. So you would put it in the oven 20 minutes before it was time to eat the desert. It was now 5:30, the fort had taken a while, so you turned on the TV and went on netflix, selecting a horror movie you both knew you would barely be watching. Then, you went to your shared bedroom and put on her favorite outfit of yours. Which consisted of nike pros and a baggy but not long grey hoodie of hers, she loved seeing you in her clothes, and she was an ass girl, and the nike pro’s did you justice. You slipped your glasses on and then heard the door open. You walked out into the main area, seeing Guro starting at the fort. She turned to look at you, a wide smile on her face. "Baby… what did you do?" Guro said, laughing and putting down her bag to come jump in your arms.

You both made a point of speaking english when you could because your english wasn’t great.

You caught her in your arms and spun her around. "I recreated the scenes of our first kiss. I love you. So much. And i’m so lucky to be with you." You told her, all while her legs were around your waist. She kissed you again on the lips before peppering your face with them. She then jumped down and took off her shoes. "I’m gonna go change, and then we eat?" She said. "Food should be here in 5." You smiled at her. While she changed, you leaned on the counter and decided to post something on instagram.

You all knew you could not let Lyon score. That ball could not go in the back of Ann Kat’s net. If only knowing it couldn’t end up back there was enough. It wasn’t.

When Lyon scored, you knew it wasn’t over. As the attacking midfielder, you knew you had to create an opportunity for the team. But then it went into extra time, and Lyon scored again. You thought you were going to die.

Your girlfriend got subbed off, you couldn’t even recall for who, but she was on the bench, and she was mad.

And then, things seemed to turn around. You ran into the box and passed the ball to Lauren who received it perfectly, until you saw a foot stick in front of Lauren’s, sending her tumbling to the ground. You threw your hands up in the air as Lyon cleared it, all of Chelsea was going insane, the Lyon players were trying to defend their team, both benches were on their feet and the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge were screaming in rage. Time moved in slow motion, you looked over to Jessie Fleming with a mix of fear and hope in your heart. She looked at you the same way. And then, it seemed as though everything fast forwarded and the ref was pointing at the penalty spot, and Sophie Ingle was handing you the ball. "Can you do this?" She said to you. "Yes. Yeah I can do this." You answered, grabbing it and placing it on the spot. You didn’t want to look back at the bench, if you saw your Guro, you would be too concentrated on not letting her down to score the perfect penalty. You fiddled with the ball a bit before finding the perfect position for it to rest in. You backed up and breathed heavily. You knew how to do this. You had this.

And then the whistle blew, and your foot hit the ball, and the keeper went right and the ball went top left and you were screaming and running to the bench where Emma Hayes had just turned around and was screaming and jumping with Erin Cuthbert. You jumped into Guro’s arms, shaking so hard and screaming out of joy. You were level, and this quarter final was going to penalties.

Your brother and your sister were in the stand with their kids, all of them wearing your name on their back, except for one of the kids, who loved Guro more than she loved you, you couldn’t even bring yourself to mind because the sight of your girlfriends name on your niece’s back was the most wonderful thing ever.

Lyon. Score.

It was your turn. You couldn’t miss. And you didn’t. You sunk it in with ease and pumped your fist in the air, running to Jessie and Niahm, hugging Magda and Joanna.

And then Ann Kat worked magic, and Chelsea was through.

The whole team ran to Ann Kat and dog piled on top of her, but you made sure to run to Guro who was running off the bench and onto the pitch. You jumped into her arms, hugging her head to your chest and holding her tightly. "MY GIRL! MY GIRL!" Guro yelled, smiling up at you and then hugging your upper body again as you rested your cheek on her head. Guro put you down and then you both ran to the rest of the group, hand in hand. You and Ann Kat hugged, the team spraying water on the both of you. "Ice cold!" She said to you, smiling. "Right back at you Keep!" You smiled.

The celebrations were amazing, but you were quick to find your siblings. You hugged your sister tightly and then your brother. They all praised you, making you blush from the attention. You focused on the five kids there, hugging the and smiling. You picked up the youngest, a seven month old girl and walked on the pitch with her, taking her to your teammates.

"Gee!" Guro said, happy to see the baby. Georgia reached out for Guro who took her gladly, smiling at her mini Chelsea jersey. You took the opportunity to go sign a few things as Guro held your niece, she was getting much attention from Niahm and Jessie. When you got back, you took her back to her mother and swapped her for your five year nephew, JJ, who was incredibly social and wanted to say hi to everyone. You soon got called over for a quick post match interview. "You want to come, JJ? You wanna be on TV with auntie?" You asked him. "Yeah!" He said happily. You quickly asked your sister, who’s son it was and she agreed to it. Then, you picked him up and brought him to the cameras.

"Hi!" The reporter said, passing you a headset. "Hi, nice to see you again." You answered, recognizing her from other games. "Same to you, same to you. Who’s this?" She asked, looking at the boy in your arms. "I’m JJ." He said, the camera now rolling. "Well hello, JJ. The woman said. She then turned to you. "Well, I’m sure you guys are ecstatic to have made it through. How do you feel about your performance as a team?" She asked. "Um, not good enough. We were extremely lucky to have had that clip in the box. I know a lot of people will say the game was stolen from Lyon, they were the better side but we kept our calm and I think that showed. I’m very proud of this team and I’m just happy not to have missed." You said, smiling. "Yeah, a very special penalty that was. So now there are two english teams in the semi finals. How do you feel about maybe having to play Arsenal again?" The woman asked you.

You knew what was coming the second she said that. The thing is, Guro had had a lot of fun teaching three year old JJ to say "London is blue!" every time the word Arsenal was brought up. She thought it was hilarious. So that’s what happened.

"LONDON IS BLUE!" He yelled, his squeaky little voice making you jump. The reporters and you were quiet for a second before you all burst out laughing. "I’m so sorry, my girlfriend taught him that I promise. Anyways uh, yeah no we’re just going to concentrate on the Barca game, Arsenal is not our issue right now." You told her.

You talked for a couple more minutes and then you wrapped it up. You handed JJ back to his parents and rushed into the tunnel where Guro was waiting for you away from the cameras. "Can I kiss you now?" She asked. "Please. And don’t stop."

Could you tell us more about Nahtaviel? What is her story? What is the au youre referring to? Does she have any interactions with other characters?

Ohhhhhh!!! Sure!! Let me explain it to you in parts💖💖

To start, when I say "AU" I mean an alternate universe where my ocs are part of the story (such as a game, an anime, a novel, etc.).

I do this mainly so that there are no problems with those people in the fandoms who like the story to be followed 100%, which is why I say that it is AU and therefore the canon story will not be affected.

In the case of Nahtaivel she is part of the Genshin AU (which I share with my friends) where she is part of the story along with other ocs and therefore there are certain changes in the lore with respect to the original story to the game.

Now that we have clarified that point, let's go to the next one, where I will talk about this lady dragon.

Nahtaivel is part of my oldest ocs, I created her during 2014-2016 and she is based on Leviathan. Her name is basically Leviathan said backwards (Leviathan=Nahtaivel).

And in 2021 I adapted Nahtaivel for the lore of Genshin, which at that time her story was simpler compared to now, in addition to the fact that in 2021 the fandom didn't know about the existence of Sovereign dragons in the game, info would be revealed some time later.

Then in 2023 when the Fontaine arc came out, I decided to revamp Nahtaivel by giving her a more solid story that involved some parts of the game's story.

Many Genshin fans know that Neuvillette is the reincarnation of the sovereign dragon Hydro and that he is based on Leviathan.

Well this is where things get interesting.

In some myths and biblical stories about Leviathan, they say that there was not a single Leviathan but two Leviathans, a male and a female. And then God would kill the female because these sea beasts were a danger.

So at that moment I said "Hey, what if Sovereign Hydro reincarnated into not one but two new entities?"👀. Added to that I was also inspired by the lore of Zekrom and Reshiram from pokemon.

So basically Nahtaivel and Neuvillete are re-incarnations of the sovereign dragon Hydro and basically they consider each other as siblings (Naht being the older sister, for breaking the egg first before Neuvi). Although Neuvillette is the one who has control over the hydro element, obviously.

How crazy that there are also two Hydro archons(???.

Regarding the history of Nahtaivel I will try to summarize it a little:

Nahtaivel, the first moment she came to the surface from the depths of the ocean, she was curious about the world of land and humans (Yes, the little mermaid). So little by little she learned about this new world and its inhabitants, even interacting with humans and learning different languages ​​of those times.

So in exchange for that, Nahtaivel would teach humans the secrets of navigation and encourage them to explore beyond the limits of the Teyvat's seas.

The humans of Liyue and Inazuma would begin to treat her as a goddess, calling her by the names of Gran Mare and Mother Sea. She was the one who maintained order and balance in the seas of Liyue and Inazuma.

In addition, Nahtaivel would form a good relationship with other deities and beasts of the sea, among them Osial, who would become her right hand.

But things would change with of the archon war, Nahtaivel tried to ensure peace between the deities of the sea and the inhabitants of the mainland because she did not want lives to be lost (And because she knew this was a twisted plan on Celestia's part). Which was one of the reasons Osial and the other sea deities saw her as someone "weak" besides that they envied the good relationship she had with humans.

And that is why one day they betrayed her, plotting to try to eliminate her and take her power to keep it for themselves. But that was their biggest and last mistake. Because they only caused the beast that slept in her finally to wake up.

Nahtaivel massacred the traitors who tried to kill her, her wrath was on the surface and few sea deities were able to escape, including Osial.

Two hundred years later, Nahtaivel would agree to help Morax seal Osial and, in the process, take revenge on him for his betrayal.

What she didn't expect is that she and Morax would end up in a romantic relationship, learning about each other and after sealing the vortex god, they would get married and have a 2000 year old marriage. They even had a daughter.

Currently Nahtaivel leads a peaceful life as a "mortal" with her husband in Liyue.

As for her relationship with the Genshin characters, it's still a work in progress but I have some here: Zhongli/Morax (husband), Neuvillette (younger brother), Beidou (ex-pupil, partner in crime 1),Venti/Barbatos (friend), Traveler (acquaintance), Xiao (her husband's pupil and she wants the poor boy to relax a little once in his life) and Hu Tao (Her husband's boss, partner in crime 2).

And regarding Nahtaivel's personality, she is quite motherly. She seems intimidating at first but the truth is that Naht is calm and depending on who she is with, she can be more open or not. Being that with her closest ones she has a softer attitude and likes to play some little joke.

She is honest with her words, and sometimes she can even be too direct with what she thinks, she doesn't like lies or betrayals. Naht is only aggressive when she feels threatened or is in combat with someone else.

1. Who or what got you into F1?

My dad. He grew up in a racing/car family and automatically transfered that love to me when I was just five days old and he held me up in the hospital to show me the German GP of 1999 on TV. We always joke I've watched F1 since I was born, which is no lie. Since then, we've seen almost every race together. We've also gone to 15 F1 GPs together.

2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?

Michael Schumacher. My dad is a Jenson Button fan and he's convinced I started supporting Schumi just to annoy him. I don't fully remember why I chose Michael, but my best guess is I fell in love with the red car that kept winning. I love him still and still hope he gets better someday.

3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?

After 16 years of supporting Sebastian Vettel, I ended up supporting Max Verstappen in 2023. My dad's been supporting him ever since his debut, and made him his main since Jenson retired. However, I didn't get there that quickly. I adored Max when he began F1. Got annoyed with him a lot in 2018 and 2019 when he kept having run ins with Seb (fave bias I guess), but once 2020 I grew to adore him and in 2021 I fell in love. He'll never reach the same level for me as Seb did in my heart (he's my hero after all, since I was 6), but I love him sm already.

4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?

I love so many F1 duo's, but my two faves are Sebastidan and Lestappen.

Sebastidan got me out of my high school depression phase in 2017. I remember feeling extra down when Seb lost his chance at the title that year in Japan. I was so frustrated and watched video's of them as teammates the whole day. I've adored them since and while they aren't a fanfavorite, I can't help but enjoy the bits and pieces we still get from them.

Lestappen. I got into them last year during their - sadly short - title fight. The history they have, the connection, is something so unique. They also seem to become better friends with each passing month. I'd love to see them as teammates someday.

5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?

Dad's a Max and RB fan. He hates Mercedes and especially Toto. His past faves are Senna, Hill and Jenson. Mom has watched F1 since she's been with dad (1985), but never got into it. She always liked Nico Rosberg though!

6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?

Belgium 2014 as it was my first live GP. Belgium 2018 as it was the first time I saw Seb win live. Abu Dhabi 2012, which was epic Abu Dhabi 2021, I'll never forget that day Brazil 2008, it was mind blowing.

And probably many more!

7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.

Spa. It's my home track which I've been visiting since I was a toddler. And Zolder, for the same reasons.

I also adore the Red Bull Ring, Yas Marina circuit and Monza.

8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.

15 in total! 14 times the Belgian GP (would've been 15 if it weren't for 2020) and 1 time the Austrain GP. It's always amazing! The organisation of Spa has changed for the better as well!

9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?

Several times the whole grid before 2020, because it wasn't as difficult to get close to them. In Spa they organized hours long signing sessions at la Source for everyone with a weekend ticket. Since then I've seen them mostly from a distance. The closest I've come to talking a while to someone was Charles in 2018, Seb several times and Daniel also a few times. I still get butterflies thinking about it <3

10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?

RB19 (2023), it's such a precious car <3 Seb's 2010 RB. The Ferrari from 2004. Brawn GP car from 2009.

11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?

Not really. Unless, you count Oscar's sprint win from last year.

Okay this happened a couple years ago and I'm mostly over it but I Need to know who was in the wrong in this scenario once and for all.

So me (24F) and my sibling (25NB) have always had a tumultuous relationship. We both grew up in an abusive household and had undiagnosed mental issues growing up so we were always fighting. I don't wanna get into the nitty gritty of it all, just wanna set up some context for our relationship. Just trust me when I say it was BAD on both of our ends.

Fast forward to Feb 2021. We're both moved out of the house and have a slightly better relationship. We talk on the phone and text and only see each other a couple times a year. We're currently in a fight (I don't remember why. Something about me not living up to their expectations? Idk it was a while ago) so we haven't talked in a bit. I'm having a tough time bc it's almost been a year into the pandemic so I'm severely depressed and severely poor. My school just took $200(? again it was a while ago) out of my account due to a fuck up with textbook rental returns. They thought I never returned them bc my friend returned them for me and so they posted them under her account. I make a donation post on here to try to get rent money bc I know I'm not gonna be able to fix this mess before it's due. It gets like. idk 30 notes tops. I think I get $50, almost all of it from friends.

A couple days later, my friend tells me someone is accusing me of scamming on my post. I check the notes and my sibling is accusing me of lying about the book rental issue saying that I purposefully didn't return the books (I made a joke about this to them months before bc I didn't know how I was gonna return them with no car during a pandemic, hence my friend doing it for me) and that I'm making this all up to take money from people, specifically black people bc its black history month. I guess in their head they believed that me making my post took attention away from other people's donation posts? Idk. It's probably important to note that we're both white. Anyways, I was completely fucking floored at this. I was also kinda pissed that they said this in the notes of my post instead of over text and hurt that they would immediately come to this conclusion instead of trying to clear things up first. We end up having a stupid fight in the notes of my post and we block each other.

We haven't talked since then. Apparently this was the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't regret going no-contact. The only reason why I'm asking this is bc I know they still believe they're in the right about this and there's always going to be this small part of me that worries they might be right.

Thank you for the question!!! I have in fact both read and watched Under the Banner of Heaven. It was actually the first Mormon-history book I read way back in spring of 2021. I had just watched a Hulu documentary about FLDS and I wanted to read more about modern-day Mormon fundamentalists so I checked it out from the library and was hooked! I wanted to find out more about the origins and history of Mormonism, having had my interest piqued by the book, and the rest is history. I haven't reread the book since and I definitely know way more about both historical and modern Mormonism now, so it would be interesting to reread and see if it holds up. (One quibble: after reading about the 1988 Singer/Swapp siege more recently, I don't know why Krakauer didn't include a discussion of this event in UTBOH. It would have been a natural fit with his discussion of Mormon fundamentalist violence.)

I saw the show, on the other hand, when it came out and I knew way more about Mormon history. I thought it was fantastic. Very strong acting, writing, directing, deeply compelling, etc. I think the addition of Andrew Garfield's and Gil Birmingham's characters and the storyline about Jeb's faith deconstruction and Taba's Native American perspective really added a lot of depth. I also liked the way that their stories and the story of the investigation were woven together with both the recent history of the Lafferty family and the 19th century history of the church.

I would say that my primary issue with the show is that Allen Lafferty is written much more sympathetically than I find the real-life Allen, who was aware that his brothers had made death threats against his wife to a much greater extent than is portrayed in the show and did absolutely nothing about it. I think Allen bears a greater degree of responsibility for Brenda and Erica's deaths than the show would lead you to believe, and I know that Brenda's parents and siblings feel/felt that way, while the show depicts him going to stay with them in the final episode. (Also, while I don't know if Allen's religious struggles as depicted in the show are inaccurate to what he was going through at the time, he and his current wife are very much orthodox LDS, to the point where his wife has a Youtube channel with the two of them giving testimony, which I feel like doesn't really reflect well on him given like. everything.)

Edit: oh, and one issue I have with the historical flashbacks is that it kind of lampshades the conspiracy theory about John Taylor being in on Joseph Smith's murder which I think was kind of irresponsible of them because it's literally fringe nonsense and my behated.

[margot] i should ask. were you given adequate space and time to grieve your sister’s death as a child?

[grant] no, not really. the rest of my family tried to but i so strongly refused to talk that no matter how much they tried to get me to work through it, i wouldn’t do it. i learned to keep my mouth shut about my grief. i used to be a lot more open about my feelings but that all changed when elizabeth died. i didn't want to anymore.

[grant] and at home, obviously i didn’t talk about it. that’s where i learned to hide my feelings. i wasn't allowed to have any there.

[grant] i remember while my sister was sick, she had to be the one to tell me everything that was going on with her. she even had to break the news to me alone when she was first diagnosed. any time her cancer was discussed in front of my parents, my mom would totally lose her mind and have these super terrifying emotional outpourings, and if i said even like, “oh my god, i'm so sad,” she’d scream at me and tell me she had it worse since she was the parent.

[grant] see, look, i'm trying not to avoid. you have me actually talking about something nobody besides my family knows about. i didn't even tell any of my exes about that part.

[margot] the loss of a child is very painful, but that doesn’t mean the other members of the family don’t suffer as well. siblings, grandparents, cousins...everyone feels the loss intimately.

[grant] i can’t tell you what my dad thought about it all. like he was about everything, he didn’t express his feelings or thoughts at all. i never saw him cry even. he got close at the funeral, but you know, my mom shut down his emotions, too. i know he did love elizabeth and does miss her, but it’s just logical. he won’t say that.

[grant] kelly was the same way.

[grant] you know something else?

[grant] i told you elizabeth had a lot of hopes and none of them came true. for one, elizabeth really couldn’t get away from my mom’s wishes even in death.

[margot] oh?

[grant] so, my sister refused to do any kind of cancer treatment. when they found the cancer, it had already spread beyond the point of no return. she had ovarian cancer but it was all the way in her lungs and everything. even in her brain. a couple months later and it was literally everywgere. and i know, ovarian cancer is not super common in teenagers, but like i was talking about with my cousin the other day, it’s the side effect of a horrible family history with cancer.

[grant] anyway, she didn’t want treatment, and she just wanted palliative care when it got to be too much for her to handle. it took a while because she wasn’t very symptomatic at first. she also didn’t want a DNR and didn’t want to be sent to the hospital if she got sick or something.

[grant] then she got some kind of infection. i can’t really remember what, but it pushed her over the edge and all her organs started failing, and she hit the point of not being in a clear state of mind, and my mom took advantage of that and sent her to the hospital.

[grant] don’t ask me those details because i can’t remember what happened. my sister had a DNR, but whatever was done obviously didn’t break that. still, it was definitely extending her life past what she would have wanted.

[grant] and so she died in the hospital when she wanted to go at home.

[grant] i remember the very moment when she died, too. still makes me feel sick. like when i think about it, i feel like i'm going to die right now in the same way.

[margot] that’s tragic she lost her ability to choose. she deserved the right to die peacefully at home like she wanted. that wasn't fair to her to steal that choice. and, um, were you there when she died?

[grant] i was in there by myself.

[margot] oh, i'm so sorry. that’s...i have no words. i'm so terribly sorry.

[grant] my parents and grandparents did not get along, but my parents, i guess, respected their place in the family enough to call them when my sister was put in the hospital that night.

[grant] my parents left to get them downstairs and my other sister left to get coffee. i refused to leave. you know, actually, i was under the age of thirteen, so it was against the rules for me to be in the ICU as a visitor alone, but no one kicked me out or sent me with them.

[grant] maybe, like, five minutes later, she pretty much suffocated to death and her heart just quit. and she was gone. i could hear my whole family outside arguing about my mom’s decision to put her in the hospital when it happened.

[grant] i very, very distinctly remember how, um, gruesome her death seemed, and that’s it. after that, it’s super blurry. i think i might have cried in the doctor’s arms for a hot second before my grandma came and got me. i think my grandpa bought me some candy from a vending machine to kind of halfway distract me. can’t remember anything else.

[grant] i can still see the worst part of that night in my head, though. even right now. the actual trauma has stayed with me. the image is there. right now. and it won't leave.

[grant] at least she got a nice funeral. it was a horrible, horrible day for me...for all of us...but she got what she wanted on that day. except for maybe what day of the week it was on. the choice of day would hurt her so deeply.

[grant] i'll just say this. i hate birthdays. they’re all ruined for me. every single one of them. all i can think about any birthday is death.

😍 - What led to your interest in the fandom?

My siblings kept showing me clips from it in 2021 but I was busy fixating on some Diana Wynne Jones books so I didn't really pay attention. THEN last spring somebody was watching the 87 cent solution in my mom's room while I was doing my hair and I specifically remember hearing "What do you do the next time your uncle goes mad with suspicion?" "fake scrooge's death" and being like WHAT. Then they made it to the golden spear! and I was so confused by della's moon subplot that I had to go watch it for myself. the rest is history

🤖 - Are non-fandom friends aware that you write fanfic?

I think so? Something about the sentence "I'm working on fanfiction for the 2017 DuckTales show" is difficult to say out loud. My friends are either vehemently neutral about dt or are too scared of the concept of fanfiction to read my stuff

💌 - Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

I am always a sucker for characters in denial about how important other people are to them being forced to confront their feelings. I love people learning to be vulnerable. I love the kids bonding with their mentors and adults learning things about themselves by reaching out to kids. Mainly I just love writing character study-esque stuff I think

🎨 - If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

The scene in Prodigal when Scrooge and his father are nearly lost on the moors is so vivid in my mind and I think it could be so fun as an art piece. I'd also love to see the storm scene from the draft document currently titled "christopher plummer 2" but I'd have to actually post that lol. some day

001: Back in the Saddle Again

After years of severe chronic illness, last week I got back on a horse for the first time in over a decade. I found riding to be more doable than I was expecting; it wasn’t easy by any meaning of the word, but it also wasn’t impossible, and even though those seven minutes in the saddle pushed my body to the limit, I would have been able to ride more later in the day if I had had a long enough break.

A brief history of my health before I get too ahead of myself:

I’ve been chronically ill since late 2016, when I started working and began needing to sleep upwards of 16 to 18 hours a day to feel rested at all. Over the years I progressively got worse, until summer of 2019 when I had to call out of work more than I could go in and I was either in bed, in the bathroom, or at work. When covid hit in 2020, I went from being able to leave bed for work to only being able to leave bed for the bathroom and the occasional doctor’s appointment, but due to the pandemic, even my appointments stopped before I had any sort of diagnosis besides fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

In November 2020 I had a near-death experience that resulted in getting my first ever blood transfusion; then I moved back home to my parents’ farm at the beginning of 2021. At the time it was an admission of defeat, but with the help of my parents, my health has slowly improved over the last two and a half years that I’ve spent on the farm, to the point where not only am I spending all day almost every day anywhere but my bed, I’ve able to leave the house upwards of three times a week and drive myself the majority of those times to boot.

As I’ve improved, I’ve experimented with doing more activity both physical and mental. For the first two years, physical activity was next to impossible and mental activity was all I could handle on a regular basis. Then I was blessed enough to get the first of two gender-affirming surgeries in December 2022, and since then I’ve been finding that while I’m now more physically capable, my mental energy has become unreliable.

While it’s of course a bit of a pain to be unable to read or write consistently, I’ve enjoyed the increased ability to bake, do canning, and get back to playing a musical instrument. This past spring I even planted a garden of pumpkins while learning to find adaptations for the various activities I have an interest in, and next year I’m hoping to plant more than just pumpkins!

I’ve spent the last eight months slowly but surely building up my physical activity to the point where when I had my second surgery in June, I was able to get back to my life with relative ease by mid-July. At this point in time, as long as I’m sitting down I can do whatever I’d like to, within reason, and if I need to walk somewhere, as long as I have my cane and take breaks every five to ten minutes, I can get where I need to go.

And how does this all come back to getting back in the saddle?

I had grown up going to a local stable with my siblings while our mom took lessons and cleaned stalls. My sisters and I were always more into riding than my brothers were, and once I hit puberty I stopped riding altogether as it, like most of my childhood passions, was too much for my dysphoria. Eventually, my sisters also stopped riding, though my mom continued on for years until she and my dad could afford to build a barn behind our house and bring her horses home. Since then, she’s slowly stopped riding as often as my dad’s health declined and our farm grew to include chickens, goats, and geese, but the horses have stayed a part of the daily chores all the while.

After stumbling across the International Gay Rodeo Association (a story for another time), and after realising that I am significantly more physically capable if I just have the right accommodations, I decided it was time to try riding again, just to see if I could do it. My mom was game to help me saddle up, so all we had to do was wait for the weather to cooperate.

I was able to borrow my mom’s tack and her old helmet, and with the help of an overturned bucket, I was up on top of the gentle giant Tiny Tim, a half-draft who gets along with everyone and everything. It’s been a while since he was last ridden; as such he was just as out of shape as I was, and I managed to last longer in our ride than he did!

We walked around the edge of the arena, first in one direction, then the other. My mom made a point to ask who was leading, me or Tim, and unfortunately my answer was a resounding “Tim is!” Then she asked us to do a serpentine across the arena, and I had such difficulty with that that she had to come out to walk with us. By then Tim was ready to be done and I was ready for a break, so I dismounted and led him back to the barn.

All in all, those seven minutes were some of the most wonderful I’ve had in a long time. Going forward, I hope to ride at least once a week for however long I can, and my only goal is to be able to go on trail rides in the future, no matter how long it takes.

hyori is the true youngest sibling of the group, being the member with easily the most scandals to her name. even as a young trainee, hyori was linked to trainees and idols from other companies. while she is a strong rapper with good visuals and is generally regarded as having a positive attitude, most of this is overshadowed by hyori’s scandals and netizens’ opinions on them. however, it doesn’t seem to bother hyori too much. she’s opinionated and outspoken, never shying away from telling everyone exactly how she feels. she has made clear that she has no interest in making fans think that she’s someone else.

Heya! This is a masterpost for a chapter series I'm currently working on solo, I've been working on it since April 2021 (2 years now!)

The name of it is "Paper's, Please: Hope or Glory"! It's an AU I made based off of the game, with minor alterations, new characters and deeper lore!

What is Hope or Glory about?

Hope or Glory will be mostly spoken from the perspective of 3 characters, Inspector, Manya Holland and Alexie Holland.

This is not only a retelling of the game, but a new story following a past incident with the Inspector's father and the Holland siblings, Nadja and Rostislav.

Meeting the Characters!

Our main man, Inspector! He's an introverted guy who's pretty plain on his own. He got his job as border inspector for the sake of his family, he lives with his wife, son, mother in law and uncle. 

Though he's introverted for a slight reason, he's been trying to solve his Father's criminal case for years. The government has claimed to have solved this already but he believes there is more and will do as much as possible to prove his Father innocent.

Alexie, the brightest sunshine in Grestin and proud childhood friend of Inspector!

He's the Chief of Border Security who is surprisingly kind for his status! His father, Anatolli Holland, was a First Lieutenant in Arstotzka's Marine Forces and died at the time Alexie was born. His mother and siblings had moved to the United Fed when he was 20. But for the sake of Inspector, he stayed behind and kept him company.

Manya, a strange woman who has many secrets. She's the only daughter of Rostislav Holland, but after her father's death she was raised by Danic Lorun in Republia. She now works as an expert investigator in Arstotzka, catching criminals and solving other's mysteries. But what about herself? Is she just acting weird for the sake of it or is she hiding something behind closed doors?

What will be different?

There's quite a bit of things that are different from the game's canon, both minor additions like adding last names and new background characters to big changes like diving into Arstotzka's Economy and History and making minor characters crucial to the new plot!

Speaking of which, I've added a whole new faction, which has been renamed to:

фиолетовый капитал (fioletovyy kapital)

They're a group that not only strives for freedom, but for equity and peace, half of its team works on protests and donations in the day, but sabatoge the rich and greedy at night. Their symbol is a violet and they usually leave the petals of the flower behind when they complete a mission.
