ok so alex turner once used the word "lumpy" to describe a song, and he meant this in a negative way (lumpy = too many words and/or too many concepts that do not cohere) but i've found it so useful to describe writing that i enjoy. thinking about this bc of the poetry tournament but poems that circulate on tumblr tend to be hit or miss for me bc they subscribe to whatever the opposite of the "lumpy" school is. which is not necessarily bad. tumblr poetry is very sharp and clear and expresses sensations/ideas in the most concise and lucid (but still surprising) way. but i like it when there are too many words or they're cumbersome or it is hard or embarrassing to read out loud
