I haven’t really seen any of the more recent U.S. election news hitting tumblr yet so here’s some updates (now edited with sources added):
There’s evidence of Trump cheating and interfering with the election.
Possible Russian interference.
Mail-in ballots are not being counted or “recognized” in multiple (notably swing) states.
30+ bomb threats were called in and shut down polling stations on Election Day.
20+ million votes are still unaccounted for, and that’s just to have the same voter turnout as 2020.
There was record voter turnout and new/first-time voter registration this year. We definitely should be well over the turnout in 2020.
U.S. citizens are using this site to demand, not only a recount, but a complete investigation into election fraud and interference for the reasons stated above:
Tumblr media
Here is what I submitted as an example:
An investigation for election interference and fraud is required. We desperately need a recount or even a revote. The American people deserve the right to a free and fair election. There has been evidence unveiled of Trump cheating and committing election fraud which is illegal. There is some evidence of possible Russian interference. At least 30+ bomb threats were called in to polling places. Multiple, notably swing states, have ballots unaccounted for and voting machines not registering votes. Ballots and ballot boxes were tampered with and burned. Over 20 million votes that we know of are unaccounted for. With record turnout and new voter registration this year, there should be no possibility that there are less votes than even in the 2020 election.
Sources (working on finding more links but if anyone wants to add info, it’s appreciated):

Multiple screenshots and images.
The first is a screenshot with a link and information for contacting the White House directly regarding election fraud. The instructions include choosing to leave a comment to President Joe Biden directly and to select election security as the reason.
The screenshot then instructs people to include any or all of the following information in a paragraph as a comment to the president:
32 fake bomb threats were called into Democratic leaning poll places, rendering polling places closed for at least an hour.
A lot of people reporting their ballots were not counted for various reasons.
This all occurred in swing states.
This is too coincidental that these things happen and swing in his favor after months of hinting at foul play.
Directly state that an investigation for tampering, interference, fraud is required, not just a recount.
The second image is from the FBI Twitter account that reads:
The FBI is aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains. None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far. https://t.co/j3YfajVK1m — FBI (@FBI) November 5, 2024
The next four Gmail screenshots of an email sent to Rachael Bellis from Chris T. Spackman that read together as follows:
Dear BELLIS, RACHAEL E., The Dauphin County Board of Elections received a challenge to your absentee ballot you applied for in the November 5, 2024 General Election. The challenge argues that a provision of the Pennsylvania Election Code takes precedence over the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which requires states and counties to permit U.S. citizens who move overseas to vote by absentee ballot for federal offices based on their last U.S. residential address.
The full text of the challenge that was filed appears below this email.
You may respond to the challenge in any of the following ways:
1. Call the Bureau of Registration and Election at (717) 780-6360;
2. Email a statement to the Bureau at Election [email protected]. Any statement you submit regarding the period during which you lived in Dauphin County, any family or connections that you still have here, and why you are now residing abroad would be read into the record.
3. Appear in person at a Board of Elections hearing scheduled for Friday, November 8 at a time to be determined in the Commissioners Public Hearing Room, 4th floor of Dauphin County Administration Building, 2 S 20d St, Harrisburg, PA 17111. The meeting is also likely to be livestreamed on Facebook on the Dauphin County channel.
Sincerely,
Christopher T Spackman
TEXT OF CHALLENGE BEGINS
Dear Dauphin County Board of Elections,
I am submitting this challenge to an absentee ballot application pursuant to 25 Pa. Stat.
3146.8(f).
25 Pa. Stat. 3146.8(f) Any person challenging an application for an absentee ballot, an absentee ballot, an application for a mail-in ballot or a mail-in ballot for any of the reasons provided in this act shall deposit the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) in cash with the county board, which sum shall only be refunded if the challenge is sustained or if the challenge is withdrawn within five (5) days after the primary or election. If the challenge is dismissed by any lawful order then the deposit shall be forfeited. The county board shall deposit all deposit money in the general fund of the…

The last image is a screenshot of the official statement from the Centre County, Pennsylvania Board of Commissioners released on November 6, 2024 that states:
Centre County Working with Ballot Scanner Vendor to Export Election Results.
(Bellefonte, PA) -Centre County Elections Office is working continuously to provide mail-in ballot data in order to post unofficial results.
To this point, all ballots have been scanned, including all mail-in ballots.
Centre County's Election team and IT team have identified that the data are successfully being exported from the mail-in ballot scanners, but that the data is not being recognized when uploaded to the elections software.
Centre County's Administrator, John Franek, Jr. stated, "We have not stopped working, and we will continue to work until unofficial results are posted and reported to the Pennsylvania Department of State."
As a next step, Centre County has begun working with the equipment vendor to adjust configurations to make the two systems-the mail-in ballot scanner and the elections software where data are uploaded -compatible with one another.
We will provide updates as we make progress.

The Role of Construction Estimating Services in Enhancing Client Relationships
Introduction
In the construction industry, strong client relationships are essential for business growth and success. A key factor in building and maintaining these relationships is the ability to provide accurate and transparent cost estimates, stay within budget, and ensure high-quality work. A construction estimating service plays a vital role in this process by helping contractors present detailed, clear, and reliable estimates that foster trust and satisfaction among clients.
This article explores how construction estimating services contribute to strengthening client relationships by improving communication, managing expectations, and ensuring financial transparency throughout the project.
Building Trust with Accurate Estimates
One of the most critical aspects of client relationships in construction is trust. Clients want to know that the contractor can deliver the project on time, within scope, and most importantly, within budget. Providing accurate and reliable estimates is essential for earning and maintaining this trust.
A construction estimating service helps build client confidence by:
Providing Detailed Estimates: Offers clear and thorough breakdowns of costs, including materials, labor, and overhead, helping clients understand exactly what they are paying for.
Ensuring Transparency: Clients can see where every dollar is being spent, which reduces concerns about hidden costs or overcharging.
Real-Time Updates: With real-time data, clients can be kept informed of any changes in pricing, material availability, or labor costs, fostering trust throughout the project lifecycle.
Accurate estimates lead to a stronger sense of trust, as clients are reassured that they are not facing hidden or unexpected costs down the line.
Managing Client Expectations Effectively
Managing client expectations is one of the most challenging aspects of construction project management. Without clear communication and realistic cost projections, misunderstandings and disputes can arise.
A construction estimating service helps contractors manage client expectations by:
Setting Realistic Budgets: By providing accurate cost estimates from the outset, clients are better prepared for the financial commitments involved in the project.
Providing Detailed Timeframes: Many estimating services also offer project scheduling tools, which help provide clients with clear timelines, reducing the risk of missed deadlines.
Identifying Potential Risks: Estimating services can flag potential issues that could arise during construction, allowing contractors to discuss them with clients in advance and prepare contingency plans.
By presenting realistic expectations and proactively addressing potential challenges, contractors can avoid surprises and build stronger relationships with clients.
Enhancing Communication Through Clear Reporting
Effective communication is a cornerstone of any successful client relationship. A construction estimating service facilitates communication between contractors and clients by providing clear, concise, and up-to-date reports that outline project costs and progress.
Some key ways estimating services enhance communication include:
Real-Time Reporting: Clients can access live, up-to-date reports that show the status of their project, including expenditures, completed work, and remaining costs.
Visual Cost Breakdown: Detailed reports that break down costs by category (materials, labor, equipment, etc.) allow clients to clearly understand how their money is being spent.
Customizable Reports: Estimating services often allow contractors to create reports tailored to the client’s specific needs, whether they require high-level summaries or detailed cost breakdowns.
With easy-to-understand reports, clients feel more involved in the process and are better informed about their project’s financial and operational status.
Reducing Disputes and Misunderstandings
Disputes can arise when clients feel they were misled about costs, project scope, or timelines. A construction estimating service minimizes these risks by providing precise estimates and clear communication from the beginning of the project.
By using estimating software, contractors can:
Avoid Scope Creep: A detailed and accurate estimate helps define the scope of work and prevents additional costs from accumulating without client approval.
Address Change Orders: Estimating services allow contractors to easily incorporate change orders into the original estimates, ensuring that clients understand the financial impact of any project modifications.
Track Adjustments and Updates: Changes in project requirements or costs can be quickly reflected in the estimate, keeping clients up-to-date and reducing confusion.
Accurate estimates and transparency throughout the process help reduce the chances of disputes and ensure that clients feel their interests are being protected.
Improving Client Satisfaction Through On-Time, On-Budget Completion
One of the ultimate ways to build a strong relationship with clients is to complete the project on time and within budget. A construction estimating service plays a major role in making this possible by offering accurate estimates that help contractors stay on track throughout the entire project.
The benefits of accurate cost estimation and forecasting include:
On-Time Completion: With accurate project timelines and realistic labor/material forecasts, contractors can stay on schedule and avoid delays that might frustrate clients.
Within Budget: Accurate cost projections ensure that all project expenses are accounted for, helping contractors stay within budget and avoid cost overruns.
Quality Assurance: Estimating services ensure that quality materials and skilled labor are included in the budget, resulting in a project that meets or exceeds client expectations.
Delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the desired quality will leave clients satisfied and more likely to recommend your services in the future.
Building Long-Term Client Relationships
The goal of any construction company should be to build long-term, repeat client relationships. Satisfied clients are more likely to return for future projects and refer your services to others. A construction estimating service can help cultivate long-term relationships by:
Delivering Consistent Results: With accurate estimates and well-managed projects, contractors can demonstrate reliability and expertise, making clients more likely to work with them again.
Promoting Client Trust: Transparency and effective communication foster trust, which is the foundation of any long-term client relationship.
Creating Opportunities for Future Business: By consistently delivering accurate estimates and high-quality work, contractors can position themselves as trusted partners for future projects.
Long-term client relationships are built on trust, transparency, and reliability—three areas that construction estimating services help improve.
Conclusion
A construction estimating service is not just a tool for calculating costs; it is a powerful asset that can strengthen client relationships. By providing accurate, transparent estimates, improving communication, managing expectations, and reducing disputes, estimating services help build trust and client satisfaction throughout the construction process.
In the competitive world of construction, clients value contractors who can deliver on their promises. With the support of a professional estimating service, construction companies can ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, leading to stronger relationships and repeat business.

I was the one who got the old system and old directions and figured it out and rewrote it and you cannot understand my frustrating in trying to explain the how to people who just want a procedure.
Yes, I give them instructions to follow, but they want instructions for all the things and I cannot offer that (because I don't have time). I make really good instructions! But you also gotta learn how it works
On the other hand, with other programs, when things update, I have also been the one having to explain how to do it now. (Because I am good at figuring it out - my brain enjoys puzzles and also gets frustrated/bored easily.) I have the magical power, though, of being several steps away from whoever made the changes and can say "No idea. I guess someone thought it was a good idea? Anyway, we gotta do it this way now" often followed by "yeah, it's a pain, and, yes, I have directions for you, with screenshots. I made it this morning and made sure it worked. Let's do a test run so we make sure it works for you." I will ALSO make a list of commands that people are most likely to need. This was not originally my job however now 'have cati check your instructions' is now a standard.
But please - please - do not assume anyone knows the 'right' way to make software work. They don't have time, they don't use it enough, or their brains aren't wired that way.
today was the day we finalized the migration of essential software at work from some old and busted shit that was ready to die at any time, to the new cloud version of the same software that we are no longer responsible for maintaining. which is good because no one was actually maintaining ours. it's just been slowly crufting into unusability for a decade. so anyway they set aside an hour for a teams meeting where they'd walk us through the different interface and how to go through normal processes.
"it's not that big a change," they said. "it's all the same stuff, it just looks a little different," they said.
they did not account for the fact that the primary user of this software is someone who doesn't actually know how it works or what it's doing. they learned how to do their job entirely through rote memorization. they know which buttons they are supposed to press in which order, and that is the full extent of what they know. they also did not account for the fact that this person's processes were learned thirdhand from other people who were not using this software normally to begin with.
it's like. imagine if someone had only ever used tumblr in the app. and you try to get them to use it in a desktop browser, but they cannot figure out how to post. and you go through explaining where the button is and how to format text and add tags, even though you could have sworn it was all the same in the app. but then they're like, "okay, but what's the phone number" and you're like "what" and they're like "the phone number to call to make a post?" and it turns out somehow they still had the ability to post by calling a phone number, and every time they posted on the app they called the post in first and then edited the audio post to transcribe it into text before screenshotting the text for a photo post. and nothing you can say to them will make them understand that none of that is necessary or correct. they shouldn't have even been able to do some of that. they can just type into the post box now, like a civilized person. "okay," they say, "but what is the phone number, though? because when i made my account my friend gave me this checklist and the first thing on it is to call the number."
so anyway we were on that teams call for almost three hours and they still don't have a handle on the new software

📄 Minutes of strategic information meeting, filed by Kim Mingyu (Mafia Soldier, Logistics & Recon)
Date: ██████████ Location: Safehouse Omega-9, Undisclosed City Perimeter Time: 03:17 HRS
ATTENDEES:
Yoon Jeonghan (Underboss)
Lee Chan (Combat Unit Leader)
Chwe Hansol (Surveillance Division)
Kim Mingyu (Logistics & Recon; Recording Officer)
Civilian Target [REDACTED] (Unauthorized Attendee)
AGENDA:
Contingency Plan for Retrieval of Boss (S.Coups)
Chain of Command During Absence
External Threat Assessment
[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
JEONGHAN: We go in through the east dock. Two snipers posted by 03:40. Chan leads breach. Hansol, your eyes stay on thermal—no improvisation this time.
HANSOL: I never improvise. My brilliance is structured.
CHAN: Can we not do this right now?
JEONGHAN: [ignoring them] Mingyu, once we get him out, you're on evac. Full blackout route. No trackers, no chatter.
MINGYU: Copy.
HANSOL: Any updates on who turned? Someone had to leak coordinates.
CHAN: There’s a list. We’ll handle it after we bring the boss home. One fire at a time.
[DOOR SLAMS OPEN. SOUND OF HIGH-HEELED FOOTSTEPS. SILENCE.]
CIVILIAN TARGET: You’re planning this without me?
JEONGHAN: [visibly tense] You weren’t invited.
CIVILIAN TARGET: He’s my belo—my boyfriend, Jeonghan. You think I’m just going to sit around while you play war games?
JEONGHAN: This isn’t a movie. You’re a civilian. You don’t belong in this room.
CIVILIAN TARGET: No, I’m the reason he still believes in soft things. I belong more than half the people at this table.
CHAN: She’s got a point.
JEONGHAN: Chan.
CHAN: I’m just saying. She’s not exactly fragile.
HANSOL: She did rewire one of my bugs with a paperclip. That was... not unimpressive.
JEONGHAN: [sighs] This isn’t about guts. It’s about blood.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Then you should know mine’s already on the line. Every second he’s gone, I feel it. And I’m done being sidelined. I’m not here to ask. I’m here to help.
[BEAT OF SILENCE. THEN—]
JEONGHAN: You get one job. And if you screw it up, I’ll personally drag you out.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Deal.
JEONGHAN: Hansol, give her the map. Mingyu, loop her in.
MINGYU: You’re going to need a comm. And a bulletproof vest.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Got both. And a knife in my boot.
CHAN: Okay, badass.
[MEETING CONTINUED UNDER LEVEL-2 SECRECY PROTOCOLS. TRANSCRIPT REDACTED. END OF MINUTES.]
FINAL NOTES:
Civilian Target formally added to Operation Homecoming roster.
Jeonghan authorized conditional field involvement.
Morale status: heightened.
Risk level: astronomically high.
Tumblr media
🗂️ Operation Homecoming: Field Notes & Briefing Report, compiled by mafia underboss, Yoon Jeonghan
Clearance Level: Top Confidential Date Logged: ██████████ Location: Safehouse Omega-9
SUMMARY: Boss (S.Coups) was captured 48 hours ago following the receipt of a falsified emergency ping traced back to the civilian target’s encoded channel. The ping claimed she’d been injured and was en route to an undisclosed hospital in Sector D. According to surveillance logs, the Boss diverted course alone, abandoning standard security protocol. We believe he was intentionally isolated through signal jamming, then intercepted at the underpass beneath Route 14.
AUTOPSY OF THE TRAP:
Fake GPS tag mimicked civilian target’s bio-signal pattern
Voice distortion software replicated her distress call
EMP deployed upon vehicle arrival to disable tracking
Tactical unit waited with sedation-grade rounds
CURRENT LOCATION OF BOSS: Confirmed. Underground storage facility, formerly Syndicate-aligned. Defected cell now controls the zone. Reinforcements on site. Boss presumed alive—last thermal footage confirms faint movement.
INTERVENTION STRATEGY: OPERATION HOMECOMING
Phase One – Extraction:
Entry through east dock (03:40 HRS)
Chan leads breach unit, Hansol on thermal, Mingyu handling evac
All units silent channel only
Phase Two – Internal Sweep:
Civilian target assigned distraction and misdirection role (see below)
Two-minute window to locate and stabilize Boss
Phase Three – Extraction + Fade:
Mingyu initiates blackout route
Decoys deployed on west perimeter to delay pursuit
Rendezvous at Site Echo
CIVILIAN TARGET: PERFORMANCE LOG
Arrived wearing borrowed Kevlar and jeans tucked into combat boots. Asked if bulletproof vests same in women’s sizes. Did not wait for response.
Showed immediate enthusiasm, zero tactical finesse. Hansol gave her the map. She held it upside down. Twice.
Informed her she’d be working as the visual diversion. Her response: “Like bait?” Followed by: “Cool. I’m good at being annoying.”
Surprisingly effective. Created a loud enough ruckus on the perimeter to draw three guards off their posts. Managed to bluff her way past checkpoint by pretending to be a lost food delivery driver. Claimed she had gluten-free soba for a man named Kevin. There is no Kevin.
Still not sure how she pulled it off.
When Boss was found, he was semi-conscious but breathing. Whispered her name first.
END STATUS:
Boss retrieved.
Minimal casualties (1 injured – not fatal)
Facility compromised but not traced
Civilian target cried in the van. Then threatened to punch me for writing that down. I'm writing it down anyway.
FOOTNOTE — for Seungcheol’s eyes only: You’re reckless, stubborn, and impossible to reason with. But apparently, that’s your thing. You’re also luckier than most of us ever will be.
She didn’t sleep. Not once. Kept looking at every door like you might walk through it.
When you did, she didn’t even say anything. Just threw her arms around you like gravity stopped working.
Try not to make her go through that again.
– YJH

📰 Excerpt from "The Ethics of Mafias: Love in the Line of Fire", a follow-up think piece by Xu Minghao
... If leadership within organized crime is already an ethical minefield, then love within it is something more volatile still: a paradox of vulnerability embedded in violence. New whispers surround the figure known only as S.Coups—the alleged mafia boss whose name, until recently, conjured images of discipline, domination, and an empire forged in precision.
Now, another narrative has emerged. One that reshapes how we understand not just the man, but the very myth he embodies.
According to rumors sourced from both within and outside the organization, S.Coups may have a romantic partner. Not a fellow operative, nor a political alliance. But a civilian. Someone unaffiliated and—crucially—untouched by the bloodied logic of the underworld.
If this is true, the implications are vast.
To love in his position is a risk. It is weakness, some would say. Yet others might argue that such love is the only thing capable of keeping a man like him from becoming monstrous. If the rumors are accurate, she is the reason he looks over his shoulder less. The reason he checks his own wrath. The reason his most trusted lieutenants have stopped fearing him and started worrying about him.
Love, here, is not a diversion. It is discipline.
And perhaps that is the most fascinating ethical twist of all: that this boss, so often theorized as either tyrant or savior, might be both—because of her.
Some say he texts her between assassinations. That he buys her gummy bears because she mentioned liking them once, months ago. That he has started folding her laundry and learning her aunt’s dietary restrictions. These are, of course, unconfirmed. They seem almost laughably mundane. But within the shadowed world of syndicates and secret wars, what could be more radical than tenderness?
Others claim that he was taken. There are now verified reports of a failed abduction and his eventual rescue. She was allegedly involved. They say she showed up unarmed, untrained, and utterly unafraid. They say she demanded to be part of the rescue mission. They say she was reckless, infuriating, and ultimately, instrumental.
And that when he saw her again, he wept.
To be loved, it turns out, is not always soft. Sometimes, it is brutal and inelegant and wildly inconvenient. But in the context of a life built on violence, to be loved is to be saved. Again and again. In the ways that matter.
Whether S.Coups is worthy of that love is not the question. The question is whether it has already changed him. Whether, in the end, the girl outside the syndicate might be the only thing real in a world made of smoke and mirrors.
And whether that, more than power or fear, will be his lasting legacy.
Mafia boss S.Coups is many things. Protector, manipulator. Brother, enemy, friend.
It seems we must add two more things:
Lover, and loved.

Thinking the unthinkable
Tumblr media
On SEPTEMBER 24th, I'll be speaking IN PERSON at the BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY!
Tumblr media
Time and again, I find myself thinking about radium suppositories: specifically, I get to thinking about the day that the consensus shifted from "radium suppositories are great" to "stop putting radioisotopes up your ass."
The thing is, people really liked radium-based quack remedies. They drank radium-infused water, smeared radium cream on their faces and bodies, and yes, rammed radium suppositories up their assholes:
https://maximumfun.org/episodes/sawbones/radium-girls/
The fact that this made whatever ailed you sicker didn't deter the radium true believers: if you're getting sicker, then you must need more radium.
When I think about the debate over radium, I imagine that the people who understood that radium was really bad for you must have run up against critics who told them they were being unreasonable. "You can't tell people to stop using radium. Tell them to use suppositories with less radium. Tell them to use them less frequently. But you can't just tell people, 'stop putting radium up your asshole.' They won't take you seriously."
About 20 years ago, I started pitching various institutions that reviewed consumer tech policy on the idea that they should reject any product that had DRM. After all, DRM didn't just restrict how you used a gadget today, it provided a facility for nonconsensually, irreversibly field-updating that gadget to add new restrictions tomorrow. How could a reviewer in good conscience say, "Go ahead and buy this device if you need this feature," if they knew that at any time in the future, the gadget's maker could take that feature away and leave the buyer with no recourse?
Here's the warning I (half-seriously) suggested magazines run alongside such products:
WARNING: THIS DEVICE’S FEATURES ARE SUBJECT TO REVOCATION WITHOUT NOTICE, ACCORDING TO TERMS SET OUT IN SECRET NEGOTIATIONS. YOUR INVESTMENT IS CONTINGENT ON THE GOODWILL OF THE WORLD’S MOST PARANOID, TECHNOPHOBIC ENTERTAINMENT EXECS. THIS DEVICE AND DEVICES LIKE IT ARE TYPICALLY USED TO CHARGE YOU FOR THINGS YOU USED TO GET FOR FREE — BE SURE TO FACTOR IN THE PRICE OF BUYING ALL YOUR MEDIA OVER AND OVER AGAIN. AT NO TIME IN HISTORY HAS ANY ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY GOTTEN A SWEET DEAL LIKE THIS FROM THE ELECTRONICS PEOPLE, BUT THIS TIME THEY’RE GETTING A TOTAL WALK. HERE, PUT THIS IN YOUR MOUTH, IT’LL MUFFLE YOUR WHIMPERS.

No one took me up on my offer. Over and over again, magazine editors, managers of nonprofit review outlets, and indie gadget reviewers told me that it was unrealistic to publish a roundup of, say, this year's portable music players with the recommendation, "Just don't buy any of these. None of them are fit for purpose."
In other words: No one wanted to publish, "The correct amount of radium to stuff up your asshole is zero."
But the correct amount of rectal radium for you to administer is "none" and the correct car for you to buy today is none of the cars:
https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/articles/its-official-cars-are-the-worst-product-category-we-have-ever-reviewed-for-privacy/
This isn't the first time the correct automotive recommendation was "don't buy any of these cars." Back before seatbelts came standard in cars, the correct car was "don't buy a car." Sometimes, the correct answer is "none of the above." Even if that makes you sound unserious, the alternative is that you counsel people to put radium up their asses in a bid to seem "reasonable."
Today, DRM-infected products are routinely downgraded and bricked:
https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/5/24236237/ftc-software-tethering-letter-consumer-reports-ifixit
Even when companies face public uproar over these disastrous decisions and vow to reverse them, they can't, because these downgrades are one way:
https://www.stereocheck.com/news/music/unfortunately-you-cant-revert-to-the-old-sonos-app-anymore/
That's bad enough when it's your smart speakers, but what about when the company bricks your wheelchair:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/06/when-drm-comes-your-wheelchair
Or your $100,000 exoskeleton:
https://paulickreport.com/news/people/paralyzed-jockey-michael-straight-wants-to-keep-walking-but-manufacturer-wont-repair-exoskeleton
The reality is that we're living at the end of a catastrophic experiment in deregulation and its handmaidens, corruption and regulatory capture, and there are lots of "normal" things that we just need to stop doing. Not do less of them – just stop.
Like, the correct amount of collusion between realtors representing sellers and realtors representing buyers is zero:
https://www.latimes.com/business/real-estate/story/2024-03-19/realtor-rules-just-changed-dramatically-heres-what-buyers-and-sellers-can-expect
We got that one right, but there's plenty more that we're still engaged in this pathetic, denialist bargaining over. What's the correct degree to which White House officials should cycle back into working at the industries they oversaw? Zero. How many times should such a person come back to work at the White House? Again: zero:
https://prospect.org/power/2024-09-19-next-administration-can-stop-ethics-scandals/
When the Biden admin dropped its executive order on ethics just hours after the inauguration, they trumpeted that it "went further than any other towards slowing the revolving door and limiting conflicts of interest while in office":
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-ethics-commitments-by-executive-branch-personnel/
And it did. But it was also full of loopholes, because banning these conflicts of interest altogether was viewed as politically unserious, so the correct amount of radium up the administration's asshole was set at non-zero. The result? Well, it's about what you'd expect:
https://therevolvingdoorproject.org/what-the-hell-is-anita-dunn-even-allowed-to-work-on/
Congress hasn't updated consumer privacy law since 1988, when it took the bold step of…banning video-store clerks from telling the newspapers which VHS cassettes you took home. Since then, a coalition of commercial surveillance companies and the cops and spies who treat their data-lakes as massive, off-the-books anaerobic lagoons of warrantless surveillance data has prevented the passage of any new privacy protections for Americans.
The result? Stalkers, creeps, spies (both governmental and corporate), identity thieves, spearphishers and other villainous scum are running wild, endangering every American's financial, physical and political wellbeing. The correct amount of commercial data-brokerage for America is zero:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/12/06/privacy-first/#but-not-just-privacy
In other words, we should order every data-broker, every tech giant, every consumer electronics company and app vendor to delete all their surveillance data. All of it. The correct amount of radium in that asshole is – as with every other orifice zero:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/08/07/revealed-preferences/#extinguish-v-improve
From the perspective of the radium pitchmen, the most shocking thing about the past four years has been antitrust enforcers – like Lina Khan, Rohit Chopra, and Jonathan Kanter – who refused to bargain about how much radium we needed to stick up our butts. Fearless of being branded as "unserious" and "unreasonable," they seriously, reasonably said the right amount is none, actually.
None. Which is why they're so mad at Khan and co. Which is why they're so bent on getting Kamala Harris to fire Khan – despite the fact that this would burn precious political capital in the senate. Some people just love the feeling they get from a radium suppository – especially the suppository salesmen:

Retrograde Mercury in the Houses
First of all, Mercury Rx in your birth chart isn't a glitch, it's a feature.
✨ Mercury Rx in Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sag) – The Bluetooth connection that works only when they’re standing on one leg, facing north, at precisely 3:33 AM. Loud, passionate, but often misunderstood because they speak before the signal stabilizes.
✨ Mercury Rx in Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Cap) – The software update that takes forever to install, but when it does, it’s flawless. They think before they speak, but people still misinterpret them because they communicate in a slow, calculated way.
✨ Mercury Rx in Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aqua) – The Wi-Fi that should be fast but keeps glitching. Their thoughts are rapid, but their words come out jumbled. They rewrite messages a hundred times before sending, yet somehow, they still get left on read.
✨ Mercury Rx in Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) – The deep web browser that sees things no one else does. Their words are drenched in emotion, layered with hidden meanings. They communicate telepathically (because honestly, explaining themselves in words is exhausting).
Mercury Rx in 1st house - These natives words tumble out of their mouth like a badly loaded webpage. Your brain is fast, but your mouth is buffering and you mispronounce words a lot. This placement natives watches movies with subtitles on even for their own language. Rewatches things just to "get it". Have their own slang. When they type, their autocorrect betrays them. Loves music that feels like a personal soundtrack and listen to songs on repeat. A misunderstood protagonist really.
Mercury Rx in 2nd house - These natives are the slow but steady thinker. Like they pause a lot before speaking, people think they're deep, but they're just trying to remember the word for "fork". Loves slow-burn dramas and hates overly complex sci-fi plots. Listens to the same five artists forever. Loves classic rock, R&B, or jazz—something timeless. Hates overproduced music.
Mercury Rx in 3rd house - Talks fast, stumbles over words, or randomly loses their train of thought. In some cases, they sound sarcastic even if they're serious and don't mean to. Loves multitasking like watches TV while texting, scrolling and half-listening to a podcast. This placement learns vocabulary and phrases through memes, twitter slang, or duolingo threats. Their music taste is genre-fluid. Listens to rap, hyperpop, EDM, and podcasts at the same time. Will pause a song midway to send a text.
Mercury Rx in 4th house - Have an "old soul' way of speaking. Probably sound exactly like their parents/grandparents without even realizing it and some people around them could have told them about it. Writes handwritten letters and doodle in their free time or while in class. Rewatches childhood favorites for comfort. Prefers old movies and refuses to watch a bad remake. Makes a lot of spelling mistakes in their own language. Probably still keep their old notebook and drawings. Obsessed with childhood favs. Loves soft acoustic, old-school pop, or the one song their parents always played.
Mercury Rx in 5th house - The way these natives describe basic things involves cinematic screenplay. Probably wrote a overly detailed fanfic or an unpublished novel. Loves over-the-top dramas, reality TV, or anything with messy plot twists. Probably memorized a whole anime/movie opening before knowing what it meant. If these natives wanna learn a language, it's mostly through songs and movies. Also their inner monologue could be dramatic and sounds like Shakespeare. In music, listens to anything that makes the natives feel like the main character.
Mercury Rx in 6th house - Damn. Don't ask these natives "How are you?". They will give you a full detailed report. Talks and writes in bullet points. These natives watches informative or detailed YouTube videos like restoration videos, primitive survival, science documentaries "for relaxation". Lo-fi beats, instrumental music, or podcasts instead of songs. Prefers music that helps them focus.
Mercury Rx in 7th house - These natives adapts their way of speaking based on who they’re talking to. Also could convince anyone they have the same interests. Into arts and crafts. Loves romcoms and dialogue-heavy movies. Also psychoanalyze people a bit too much. Loves duets, soft indie, or romantic sad songs. Will make a playlist for every relationship they’ve ever had.
Mercury Rx in 8th house - These natives are cryptic texters and speakers. They speak in riddles. This placement makes the native to hide their true opinions and make them say things they don't really want to due to fear of criticism or being labeled a misogynist. Sometimes convey their true opinions in the most cryptic way possible. Watches crime documentaries and loves dark, psychological themes. Listens to dark, moody, or hauntingly beautiful. Think Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, retro songs or anything with eerie instrumentals.
Mercury Rx in 9th house - These natives are really good at giving TED talks and for writing long-winded essays, even in casual texts. Uses "however", "anyways" in DMs. Loves to watch travel vlogs, historical dramas, other language movies and likes philosophical anime/movies. Loves music with deep lyrics and listens to songs in different languages.
Mercury Rx in 10th house - These natives have a sense of professionalism even when they order food. A level of sophistication. These people uses proper punctuation in texts and draft emails for hours before sending. Loves business dramas. Watches TED talks and political speeches. These people probably has a certification related to their career. Listens to motivational rap or music that makes them feel productive.
Mercury Rx in 11th house - Their speech is 50% memes and 50% conspiracy theories. Writes in lower case letters. Uses 'lmao' and 'lol' to soften every message. Watches niche web series, obscure YouTube channels, and indie films. Their vocabulary comes from internet slang and discord convos. Not into mainstream pop.
Mercury Rx in 12th house - These people say something vague, a week later, it would turn out to be weirdly accurate. Their journal entries would look like prophecies, their vivid dreams and psychic visions. Loves watching horror, surreal, experimental films. Loves songs that makes them forget their own life and dream about themselves in that song.
