Food in California
Gott's Roadside is a Northern California restaurant group with seven locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. As an “idealized version of the American roadside stand” and diner concept, the family-owned company's niche is fast food made with boutique ingredients from local purveyors cooked to-order, including hamburgers and Ahi burgers, salads, French fries, and milkshakes, plus seasonal specials like the “Seoul” pork burger with kimchi and the B.L.T. with heirloom tomatoes. On July 25, 2017, Gott's started serving the vegan Impossible burger.
When the owners of a historic burger shack in St. Helena—Taylor's Refresher—decided to lease out their 50-year-old property, brothers Joel and Duncan Gott capitalized the opportunity to run their own restaurant. The restaurant became Taylor's Automatic Refresher when the first location re-opened in St. Helena in 1999, and (in the aftermath of a trademark dispute, and over the protests of the Taylor family) was renamed in 2010 as Gott's Roadside.
Founded and developed by brothers Joel and Duncan Gott, the restaurants embrace a California-casual cooking style, featuring microbrewed beer and boutique wines alongside chili cheese dogs and mini corn dogs for kids. In 2004, a second Gott's opened in the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco, and in 2007, a third opened in the Oxbow Public Market of Napa. The St. Helena spot is a gourmet drive-in, with guests eating at bright red picnic tables on the lawn, while the other two locations are built in an urban, retro diner-style. In 2013, a fourth location opened in Palo Alto. The newest Gott's Roadside location is now open in Greenbrae in Marin County. The company remains privately owned.
In 2006 Taylor's received the James Beard Foundation Award designating them as one of America's Classics. In addition to The New York Times and Food & Wine, Taylor's/Gott's has been featured in USA Today, Bon Appétit, Gourmet,Travel + Leisure, Robert M. Parker Jr.'s The Wine Advocate. and the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Season 1, Episode 9.

Thai Cashew Chicken
The aroma of dry fried chilies, the caramelized onions, and those crispy cashew nuts will have your mouth watering. The chicken will be crispy, but covered in that glazed salty and sweet sauce, the cashew nuts will be crunchy and creamy, and the mixture of vegetables and dried chilies will give it so much flavor. juls's super easy sweet coconut curry for when you're sick
note: this is super easy because i have curry paste and an instapot and a rice cooker. if you don't have these things on hand. well like, you can still make it, but it may not be super easy sick food for you
1lb chicken (approx)
1/3 cup of sugar
1 tbsp red curry paste
2 tbsp fish sauce
1 can coconut cream (trader joe's recommended)
cashews, unsalted
separately, rice
(there's a version of this where you brown the chicken first. the super easy version is not that version.)
okay so get your instapot. you can make this in a big one or a small one. i just started a double batch in my baby instapot.
Put in the can of coconut cream. (Tj's is recommended because it is just coconut and water, no thickeners. if you don't have ibd or some shit and thickeners don't bother you, use whatever.) Note: you can also use coconut milk if you and thicken it with like a teaspoon or two of cornstarch, but due to the nature of pressure cookers you can't add the cornstarch until after you cook, or the instapot won't reach pressure.
Add the sugar. Other people who may have originated this recipe kept dicking with the amount because "oh it's too sweet" they ended up working in eighths of a cup who even has eighths of a cup. Fuck that, I like it sweet, I'm sick, it's comfort food, 1/3 cup measure is easy to find.
Add the red curry paste and fish sauce. Note: the original amounts on this were 2tsp red curry paste and 1.5tbsp fish sauce. This was changed because using a tablespoon measure for both is easier and also stronger flavors are better when you're congested. If you think this might be too spicy for you, go easy on the red curry paste. If for some ungodly reason you are trying to recreate this from scratch, red curry paste contains: red chilis, lemongrass, galangal, garlic, coriander, cumin, shallots, lime zest, and usually shrimp paste but mine's kosher. Fish sauce is a mixture of soy sauce and fish so you can use like a tablespoon of soy if you don't have fish sauce, and maybe like a dash of worcestershire (the closest western equivalent to fish sauce, though it is considerably more gussied up).
Give the mix a good stir. This is not strictly necessary but I'm always paranoid about chunk of curry paste won't separate. I also turn the instapot on saute mode at this point because heat gets things moving.
Cube the chicken and add it to the pot. Or if you bought pre-diced, good on you. I prefer breasts to thighs because I think they're easier to chop up. Also I've discovered that if you're pulling chicken out of the freezer, you do not have to thaw it 100% it is actually easier to cube if it's half-frozen.
Add cashews. I will be honest, I've never measured this. Somewhere between half a cup and a whole cup? You do not want there to be more cashews than chicken but otherwise go wild. If you only have salted cashews, wash them in a strainer first. They will get soft. That's fine, they'll get super soft in the curry. If you wanted a crunch instead, try peanuts, they hold their form better.
Close the instapot and set it to meat/stew.
Make some rice. Maybe like a cup and a half before cooking? Tbh I've never totally figured out how to match the rice to the curry to make them run out at the same time. The curry makes 4-5 servings if that helps.
In like an hour you will have food.

Rae! I'm coming dinner and thought of your lunch posts and now I have a hyper specific Texas girl question that I hope isn't too weird to ask.
Do you have any specific HEB go-to food items? Like an ingredient you always use, or a snack you can't get enough of?
omg i love this question and YES!!!!
okay so these are all HEB-brand things except the last two. and sorry, this is so long... i got carried away. but i've gone to HEB my whole life so i am an HEB-expert lmao.
bakery section:
seasalt tortilla chips
hijole tortilla chips <- if you like spicy, these are a MUST!
fresh tortillas (especially the mitad y mitad/half-and-half, they're a combo of flour and corn)
tres leches cake (usually served in a little square but i'd also recommend the whole cake)
rosemary sourdough
pan dulce, specifically the conchas or pineapple empanadas
deli:
fresh guacamole and salsa and queso
culinary cowgirls queso (blanco/white flavor)
premade 'meal simple' meals: i love the ones you can pop in the oven, they're a really simple and tasty lunch or dinner
lemon pepper rotisserie chicken
tarragon chicken salad
fresh marinated meats - their marinated chicken is soooo good
frozen/refrigerated:
creamy creations ice cream - better than bluebell and much cheaper, i love the pistachio and the chocolate chip cookie dough
swoon ice cream - i think these are all pints, and also fancier flavors, but they are amazing especially the banana smores
pre-packaged fajita meat
mi tienda tamales
beverages:
1877 sparkling water is a cheaper topo chico alternative
pure cane sugar soda - they have a bunch of flavors, i like the cream soda the best
snacks:
check out their bulk food section! i like the everything bagel cashews, dried chili mango slices, sweet and sassy trail mix, and the pour-your-own honey-roasted peanut butter
the knock-off doritos are better than actual doritos
lone stars goldfish cracker knock offs
non-heb-brand stuff that you can find there:
whataburger-brand spicy ketchup or honey bbq
bluebell bride's cake ice cream if it's still in stores (it's almond ice cream with pieces of cake in it)

Top five types of sandwiches!
I have celiac disease so with the caveat that I haven't eaten real bread since 2018:
Fried chicken sandwich, especially korean fried chicken with glaze or a spicy mayo
CB&J, a grilled cheese from local restaurant (cashew butter and fig jam with really fancy mild white cheese)
Classic style turkey club (regular or on toasted bagel)
Sourdough grilled cheese
Breakfast egg sandwich on herb cornbread

good things this week:
finally got travel logistics figured out and I get to see rocket bae on WEDNESDAYYYYYY :D
did not win the Lambda but I was genuinely not that fussed about the winning, the nominees in our category were all so different that it was silly to compare us anyway, and I think the acceptance speech I prepped is really good and could be reused if we win something else so that's nice to have in our back pocket
had to do a rental property inspection thing I was really stressed about but it turned out to be a breeze
I've been spinning poi and it's been good for my back issues, hadn't really done that in a while but I do love it a lot
pulled up and ate the first radish! so spicy and tasty omnomnom
replanted some seeds that didn't emerge (there was a heat wave right after I planted the first time) and I rigged some chicken wire to dissuade whatever's been digging in one of my vegetable beds, which so far seems to be working
finally got my Roy/Jamie(/Keeley) recslists posted, I'd been working on that project for quite a while because I kept getting caught up in rereading everything XD
been writing a bunch! haven't actually finished much, but I've gotten a lot done on several different fics plus the Lammy speech and an outline/rough draft of a column I was invited to write for The Gay & Lesbian Review
had a thing of cashews that was getting elderly so I made a ton of cashew cream and then cooked some different stuff with it, mac-n-cheese and scalloped sweet potatoes and a spinach lemon sauce over pasta with chopped pecans, and it was all really good
found out that my girlfriend writes lowercase "s" two different ways and switches between them afaict randomly, which is just incredibly endearing to me <3
someone left a comment on my fic calling me an "emotional chiropractor" and that made me smile
discovered the song "Contagious" by Night Riots and it hit just right, I've been listening to it a lot

Wellness Wednesday:
Doubts Creepin' In
Couple of weeks ago I said I wanted to "finish strong" - I wanted to weigh the lowest I've ever weighed on my last weigh-in, I have a few unwritten goals that I want to surpass, and I want to skate into the New Year flawless on my diet.
Well,
I have become extremely snacky recently. I am still eating "clean" but the portions are getting out of control.
The recent Snack Attack obviously hasn't helped my weightloss progress
And...
I got a Family Holiday Dinner coming around corner just before my penultimate weigh-in and I don't know if I can resist all the side dishes... especially since I will be deprived of my most coveted Holiday Elixirs - I'm talking about the Three Wise-Men of Winter Goodness:
Cranberry Punch,
Eggnog,
and Hot Chocolate
Hot Damn, I will miss thee three.
Lastly - I absolutely cannot stand working out/exercising at the moment. Every work has been completed begrudgingly.

National Cashew Day
In the case of the cashew, someone, somewhere, decided that it had to be roasted. It was once known as the blister nut, if you try to eat it from the tree your mouth will pay the price. Oddly, the cashew is not, in fact, a nut, but a seed.
We don’t much care what you call it, the cashew is one of nature’s true delights. It needs a little care to be able to achieve its greatest properties, like all good things, but when you finish harvesting and roasting it there are few things in life as delightful as a cashew nut. Cashew Day encourages you to go out and enjoy this delicious seed in any of its myriad of forms.
History of Cashew Day
Let’s start with this, cashew trees can get big… really big. The world’s largest cashew tree can be found in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, and covers well over 81,000 sq ft. To put that into perspective that’s a tree that covers 1.8 acres, or nearly 70 times that of a normal cashew tree. Truly a monumental tree dedicated to providing delicious cashew nuts to the people of the world. Cashews are used in all sorts of creations, from a rich creamy nut butter to toppings for ice cream, and just about anything in between.
They’re roasted and salted for a handy snack, and often are put inside of cookies as well. There’s even research that shows that this remarkable seed may, in fact, be an effective antidepressant, were one to consume two handfuls of them a day. Cashew Day was established to encourage us to enjoy this crunchy, flavorful nut any way you want to!
How To Celebrate Cashew Day
How about you start by picking up a container of cashew butter and start the day with a piece of toast spread with that wonderful concoction? Pick up a package of cashews and munch on them throughout your work day, and keep them in the car to help stave off the munchies. They can serve as an excellent addition to a dinner salad, or you can sprinkle them on your ice cream for dessert. Can’t think of any other ways to enjoy cashews? Maybe it’s time to get some friends together and brainstorm a cashew themed day of feasting! After all the only thing better than delicious food is delicious food with friends!

Goa cuisine is known for its unique blend of Indian and Portuguese flavors, due to the state's history of Portuguese colonization. Here are some of the most popular dishes and cuisines of Goa:
Fish curry: This spicy and tangy fish curry is a staple of Goan cuisine and is typically made with fish like pomfret, kingfish, or mackerel.
Vindaloo: This dish originated in Goa and is made with meat (usually pork) marinated in a spicy sauce made with vinegar, garlic, and spices.
Xacuti: This curry dish is made with chicken or beef and a blend of roasted spices, coconut, and red chilies.
Sorpotel: This spicy and tangy pork dish is made with pork liver, heart, and other organs cooked in a blend of Goan spices.
Cafreal: This dish is made with chicken marinated in a blend of herbs and spices including coriander, mint, and green chilies.
Prawn Balchao: This dish features prawns in a tangy and spicy tomato-based sauce made with vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
Bebinca: This dessert is a layered cake made with coconut milk, flour, sugar, and nutmeg.
Feni: This is a locally-produced liquor made from fermented cashew juice or coconut sap.
Overall, Goan cuisine is characterized by its bold flavors, use of spices, and a strong emphasis on seafood

Likes: Fire wisps, rasberries, cerys's photos, wine made by zixin, sweet teas, spicy foods, hot drinks, scented candles, beef dishes
Dislikes: non-sweet teas, lemons, pomegranates, chicken dishes, almonds, cashews, when zixin doesn't respect him, when cerys is in danger, haunted areas.
A little bit about Chaoxiang: One of fourteen within his family that are given the south guardian title. The Suzaku are known to control the heat/flames of the mortal world, and are well known alchemists and mystical taoists. Chaoxiang is the 88th generation of his kind, and shows a high talent towards controlling the family flames. His swordsmanship is rather poor, but his seals are top notch enough to make up for such things.
Despite how talented he may be, Chaoxiang is rather lazy and is in no rush in taking over as the next family head; this causes quite the rift between his siblings and parents.
At current time he awakens within the mortal world, unable to return to the land of the deities. Both unaware of how long it has been or why he cannot recall what happened prior to awakening, he wanders from country to country in hopes of finding such answers.
As he is in the same boat as Zixin, he chooses to be the group journalist and assistant cameraman for Cerys. Though he strives for similar answers as zixin, Chaoxiang is in no rush to return to the land of the deities and is rather indolent in collecting and sharing info with his fellow guardian.
