SlickWrite: Completely free; online. Checks grammar, punctuation, flow, and writing style according to different settings (including fiction writing).

ProWritingAid: [RECOMMENDED] One of the most thorough online proofreader I've ever used. Although when using a free account gives extremely thorough feedback, with +20 different in-depth reports, for only the first 500 words. However, you can earn a premium account license (for a year or for life) if you get 10 or 20 new users signing up for free; (if you wouldn't mind doing so using the link above and help me earn mine, please). The settings allow you to check your writing according to your needs, from general to formal to creative. It has a bonus that you can check depending on the genre you're writing. For example, in creative, you can choose romance or sci-fiction (there are 14 sub-genre in total). And just like google docs, you can share a document, and people can view, comment or edit it too.

LanguageTool: [RECOMMENDED] Another excellent proofreader. It also has a word limit in free accounts, but if you use the add-on for Google Docs, it counts each page as a new document, so hitting the word limit is nearly impossible. It helps you to rewrite a sentence (3 a day), even if it doesn't raise any flags; it's very useful for when your sentence is grammatically correct, but it doesn't feel quite right.

Grammarly, Hemingway Editor: No so great, but they do the basic job.

Have you been aching to get your hot little hands on 52 weeks of data around original posts, likes, reblogs, and searches, all weighted and ranked and tied up into categories with a nice little bow on top? Well, today’s your day! It should come as no surprise that Artists on Tumblr reign supreme: from stunning traditional art, jaw-dropping digital art, fanart, sculptures, textile art—you name it, basically—this year’s list shows that Tumblr truly is the home for art and artists. Thank you, Artists on Tumblr, for enriching our dashboards day after day. 

Rounding out the top three, we have two iconic shows: Good Omens is live-action, and The Owl House is animated, but both have a heck of a love story at their core. The second season of Good Omens blessed us with not one but two ineffably exquisite ships, while the final season of The Owl House broke and then healed fans’ hearts in equal measure. Thanks, @danaterrace! Actually, come to think of it, the Good Omens finale kinda did the same in reverse. Thanks to you, too, @neil-gaiman! We can’t wait for season 3. 

Speaking of heartbreak and healing, Our Flag Means Death’s second season offered both in droves. The entire cast gave stellar performances, and fans couldn’t have been happier to see the kinds of representation the show displayed. Last year’s #1 topic, Stranger Things, may have dropped a bit, but trust us, you wouldn’t know it from the amount of meta, fanart, and fics in the tag. And did you hear about the live-action adaptations of both The Last of Us and One Piece? They were a preeeetty big deal this year, too. Check ‘em out if you haven’t yet (lol, of course you have). And we’d be remiss not to mention the hugely dedicated fans, fanartists, and fic writers devoting their time to all things Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Y’all deserve a little pizza, as a treat.

2023 was also a year for blockbuster movies, which of course hasn’t escaped anybody’s notice here on Tumblr. Barbie smashed box offices worldwide and left us reeling with every re-watch. How can one describe Greta Gerwig’s pink-filled opus? It certainly is one of the movies of all time. Meanwhile, with its incredible animation and soundtrack, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced us to a whole new multiverse of Spider-People, opening the portal to a veritable flood of incredible OCs. And then, of course, we got a fresh perspective on an old classic when cinephiles introduced Martin Scorscese’s cinematic masterpiece, Goncharov (1973), to a new generation of film aficionados who resoundingly agree that it is, in fact, the greatest mafia movie ever made. We’re so glad this underrated film finally got the acclaim it has long deserved.

In the realms of gaming and tech, the long-anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 has basically become everyone’s new favorite D&D/dating sim combination. Of course, the Pokémon franchise, games, shows, and Hatsune Miku collabs remain perennial favorites. Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, sorry, we mean of course X, made waves across the internet. Similarly, the Reddit blackout drove Redditors to new venues, and Tumblr users welcomed the folks from r/196 with open arms—we’re huge fans of your memes, y’all, and you fit right in. Welcome, we’re glad you enjoy the chaos. Here’s a fun fact: if we included post metadata in Year in Review rankings, #polls, introduced in January of 2023, would have been the #5 topic on Tumblr this year. Phenomenal. 

And, oh right. Taylor Swift had kind of a big year, what with the albums, the epic global tour, and the movie and stuff. Fantastic work, @taylorswift, the Swifties on Tumblr thank you for everything.

SW - ALL TYPES OF LOVE WEEK

Star Wars: All Types of Love week is a fandom event of fancreations, lasting a week, that celebrates love in its many forms! Since we celebrate romantic love and familial love often, we thought it might be time to give an opportunity for other kinds of love to shine!

Inspired by the Ancient Greek Philosophers and their seven kinds of love, we aim to showcase those different, less celebrated loves. Rooting for the little guys!

Star Wars characters, places, animals, games… Be it from the movies, the novels, the comics, the shows like The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Andor or even your own OC, the important parts are:

It must be about Love and that love must be not romantic or familial

To get a better idea of what we mean by that, you can read more about the seven types of love here. In short, we want to give a chance to shine to:

You can post about any of these, at any time of the week. There isn’t a day assigned to each type. The point is to create without pressure and celebrate all the types of love we don’t often focus on! The more of these you depict, the more we will love you for it!

QUESTIONS

“I love my two clones who are bffs, but they are clones. Does their love count as familial?”

Well, the truth rather depends on your point of view how you present it.

Pairs like Fives and Echo, and Rex and Cody, are usually understood in canon and fandom to be family. They can be friends too, but we’d prefer to focus on other pairs for this event. Post another time. We’re sure people will love it.

Alpha-17 and Cody have a cross-generational friendship? As long as the way their relationship is described/shown isn’t the dynamic of big brother & younger brother, or father figure & son figure, it’s good!

Want to show off Waxer & Boil being two peas in a pod? We would love that! As long as it isn’t a ship or they, the characters, don’t feel like the other is kin in the way we understand it.

“I want to show my two Mandalorians who are Partners In Bounty Hunting, but they are from the same clan. Does this work?”

No. I’m sorry, but it does not. We consider clan to be the SW equivalent of immediate family, a close circle, so it’s not the right event for this. But it does work if they are just from the same house or faction!

“Can I do two Jedi who are teammates and lovers?”

You can show any characters (two, three, four…) having a relationship that is sexual and based on love. As long as that love is not romantic.

If what moves your Jedi is the sense of purpose found in duty, the common love for the Light and the wider galaxy, the playfulness and affection shared between bed partners, these feelings can be as big as the moon, and it is still fine!

That is the whole point!

Feelings can be enormous and serious and important and still not be romantic or familial.

But if it’s shown or implied that the relationship is romantic/familial or turning so at some point, that is not what our event is focused on.

We know people are a bit tired from the holidays and that Valentine’s Day is a period often rich with events, which is why we put these conditions so it can be as low-pressure as possible. The point is to rejoice in all the breadth and the richness of the human sentient experience of love. In the love of Star Wars. And in the love of this community.

Be civil and show goodwill to participants and spectators. Be kind. YKINMKATO. Go crazy! Be creative! Have fun!

Pushing up from Alicent's lap, the child looks up directly into the eye of the sun. The light makes her pale lilac and coral eyes seem like they absorb the sun's rays; the strange colored eyes glittering.

A smile so bright graces her face, it makes Alicents cheeks hurt looking at it. In that moment, the Queen-Consort is sure the girl is sunshine reincarnated with all its radiant beauty.

OC in Three

No one tagged me for this but I really wanted to introduce this character, now that I have finally figured out her name.

Lupa Al-Rasil was born to a minor noble family on the Island nation of Nusa, to a Nusuan father and a Espalan mother. Her education and upbringing was somewhat atypical, as despite their low status, her parents ensured she had the best education, and her talent for Necromancy was discovered early. In Nusa, contrary to the majority of the Northern Continent, necromancy was seen as a way of ensuring peace and continuity between the souls of the newly dead and the living, and was not persecuted. Lupa was known for being strong-willed and lively, with a taste for adventure, and was caught several times having love affairs with sailors of her parents' shipping company. Three weeks after her betrothal was announced to an Espalan nobleman, Lupa disappeared.

Over a year later, Lupa arrived, alone and pregnant, in the ports of Themasshir. She gave birth to her daughter, Nicolette, 3 months later while living in the slums of the city, and remained in Themasshir until the girl was about a 4 years old. Then, for whatever reason, she and her daughter left the port city and began moving around, almost as if they were fleeing something. They rarely stayed anywhere more than a few months, and gave different names in different places. Finally, Lupa and Nicolette settled in the tiny, struggling town of Lincoln, where they remained. Lupa worked as the groundskeeper for the town cemetery, and sold minor potions on the side. At this time, Lupa changed her and her daughter's surnames to Dubois.

Lupa made sure to educate her daughter as best she could, including in the necromantic arts, which Nicolette also showed aptitude in. However, as Nicolette became a teenager, Lupa began to sicken. Shortly after Nicolette's 18th birthday, Lupa died of lung cancer. She was 39 years old.

Months later, when the ground had thawed enough to dig, Nicolette performed a forbidden ritual and attempted to revive her mother, but only managed to create an undead walking corpse, which now inhabits her home.

So I started rewatching Star Wars Rebels a few weeks ago and oh boy I think my dormant Star Wars hyperfixation is no longer dormant but instead coming back full force - AND NOW I WANT TO SEE THESE DORKS GETTING KISSES GODDAMMIT

Recap:

Hunter, still holding his head, could only muster a groan.  Omega was holding him and trying to soothe the pain. 

“Omega?” 

“I’m ok, just worried about Hunter.” 

“On my way over.  Sil...I’m gonna need help getting up.” Mad unbuckled herself out and swung the pilot’s chair around.  She didn’t need to enquire about Love.  Mad could feel Love’s relief and numbness to their injuries.  After these Force outbursts, Love would be in a silent, glazed over state for an hour or two. 

Sil helped Mad stand.  Immediately her vision went starry white as she slipped from Sil’s grasp and fell face first onto the floor...

...where she kept falling... 

...a long way down...into the darkness... 

"In The Beginning"

The Republic Venator blotted out the sun on this distant planet caught in the aftermath of the Separatist skirmish. 

The Nomaadi convoy followed the Republic ships for several weeks, hiding just out of sight. One ship at a time would land on the planet's surface in case they were spotted. The rest of the convoy hiding separately. They picked through the rubble, claiming whatever goods they could later sell to make a living. Occasionally a survivor, or several would be found and taken in.  

"I’m afraid there isn’t much here my love” Paapi Daal turned to his partner. “No luck this time.” 

She, with heavily tattooed skin, stood firm upon the littered soil. Maami Daal inhaled deeply, listening intensely...then turned and scanned the landscape. 

“Maybe...maybe not...” She cocked an ear. Some of the rubble shifted...the tiniest bit. 

She hurried across the loamy soil, bending down, furiously pulling away droid parts and shrapnel. Her partner followed in kind. They cleared away a crude wooden door built into the soil. A cold cellar. 

Paapi dug his fingers under the lip and with a groan lifted the door, pulling it open. The lid fell away. 

He was immediately knocked off his feet and onto his back by a small child. She kneeled upon his chest like a dead weight, scratching at his face, growling like a wild beast. Another child, terrified, grabbed the smaller one. 

“We’re sorry, sir...we didn’t mean....” This one was HORRIFIED. "She is protective." The larger dark-haired child embraced the smaller silver haired one, managing to pull her free, hugging tightly, smoothing her hair, and whispering singsong as she struggled. 

Paapi and Maami Daal watched as the larger child soothed the smaller one. The silver-haired one still bared her teeth at them but settled. 

“Is that your sister? Where are your parents, child?” Maami enquired. 

The larger child kept a hold on the smaller one, pondering for a few minutes before answering. “Who wants to know?” 

The couple glanced at each other quizzically. “We, of the Star People...The Nomaadi.” 

No answer. Just a nod to the now disappearing Venator on the horizon. 

“You’re from THAT ship?”  

The children both nodded. The Daals glanced at each other again.  

“Can’t be...” Pappi mused. “Only clone soldiers and Jedi aboard.” 

“I AM a clone!” Their gaze snapped back to the larger child. “A DEFECTIVE clone.” Defiant expression. “They wanted me to be a battlefield soldier. They wanted me to ‘act’ like a proper man. I told the Long Necks that IS NOT WHO I AM!!!” Tears appearing. 

Maami Daal knelt down in front of the big and the little. “What is your name, child?” 

Terror surged back into the larger child's face. Maami could tell their long dark curly locks had been cut short. Crudely and unevenly done by something other than haircutting shears. A vibroknife? Was this done as punishment? 

Both children stared deep into Maami’s eyes. They saw pools of deep black accented by tiny flecks of silver. As if looking into the galaxy...no, the universe...seeing endless hope and possibilities. They had nothing to fear from these people. In fact, these people had been searching for them and others like them since the beginning of time. 

“Speak your truth, child.” 

They would have a new home; the pain and abuse would finally end. Thank The Force. 

“CT-...” 

Maami slowly shook her head No and whispered, “Your REAL name.” 

They see us. More than a number. Not just an experiment.  

“SHE. My name is She.” 

“And who is THIS clone?” Now peering at the smaller child...still staring into Maami's eyes.  

“NOT a clone. A prisoner.” 

“What crimes do small children commit that The Republic must take them prisoner???” 

“The Kaminoan’s don’t name their experimental subjects. Whether they came with one or not.” 

The Daal’s flinched at this answer. 

"Well...that is over and done." Maami Daal smiled to the children. She gently booped the little one's nose. "Gift of The Force you two are, our family you shall be."

The little smiled back, sticking out her tongue and cooed. 

Paapi Daal chuckled as he used his scarf to blot the blood from the scratch on his face. “You’re a feral little oddling, yes?"

She threw her head back and howled in reply. 

“This one shall be named ‘Mad’.”  

 The Venator ascended out of the planet’s atmosphere. It’s Jedi General meditated in deep concentration; eyes closed. His squad of clone troopers milled around expectantly. When he opened his eyes and all hands snapped at attention. 

“They have been found!” 

A collective whoop went up from the men on board. 

“Let me REMIND ALL OF YOU that WE should NEVER smuggle out ANY MORE children from the Kaminoan Facility! We will ALL be sacked and sorry!!!” With his best cheesy smile and a wink. “I’ll trust NONE OF YOU will share a shred of this to anyone outside of this transport???” He didn’t believe it for a minute. 

The Clone Commander facepalmed “We are SO fucked!” 

“Do you NOT trust your Jedi General? I may have many crockpot schemes, but it’s smoothed over with the influence of The Force.” Side-eyed the Commander and waved his hand. “I won’t worry about this mission. We were successful.” 

The Commander repeated “I won’t worry about this mission. We were successful.” 

A trooper nearby snickered “You know when that finally wears off, he’s gonna be PISSED you did it AGAIN?” 

“He’ll forgive me. He can’t help it!” The Jedi playfully elbowed his Commander. 

His Commander managed an expression of concern and confusion. 

As the jovial banter continued, a group of clones stood around the window, watching the planet recede from view. 

“You think She and Little One have a chance?” 

“Much better than staying on Kamino. The Nomaadi will take good care of ‘em.” 

“Wish I could’a stayed behind. Kriffin' tired of this rat race.” 

“Miss them already...” 

“Shhh...we can’t. At least not right NOW.”  

“Maybe sometime...in the future...” 

“Yeah, younger ones go first.” 

“Gotta be REAL careful if we smuggle any more out.” 

A hush fell among the group as the ship and planet was swallowed up by the cold darkness of space...

Writing in General (For those who don't want to die like Stormtroopers)

SlickWrite: Completely free; online. Checks grammar, punctuation, flow, and writing style according to different settings (including fiction writing).

ProWritingAid: [RECOMMENDED] One of the most thorough online proofreader I've ever used. Although when using a free account gives extremely thorough feedback, it gives +20 different in-depth reports for only the first 500 words for free. However, you can earn a premium account license (for a year or for life) if you get 10 or 20 new users signing up for free; (if you wouldn't mind doing so using the link above and help me earn mine, please). The settings allow you to check your writing according to your needs, from general to formal to creative. It has a bonus that you can check depending on the genre you're writing. For example, in creative, you can choose romance or sci-fiction (there are 14 sub-genre in total). And just like google docs, you can share a document, and people can view, comment or edit.

LanguageTool: [RECOMMENDED] Another excellent proofreader. It also has a word limit in free accounts, but if you use the add-on for Google Docs, it counts each page as a new document, so hitting the limit is nearly impossible. It helps you to rewrite a sentence, even if it doesn't raise any flags; it's very useful for when your sentence is grammatically correct, but it doesn't feel quite right.

Grammarly, Hemingway Editor: No so great, but they do the basic job.

Hobie's Beaus - Hobie x Fandom!OCs Headcanons

[headcanons about my OC and other OCs who are emotionally involved with Hobie being besties]

It's not even like 'Oh him and Diane have a separate storyline universe-'

No they all have a unique and separate relationship with him. No they're not poly. Hobie is just everywhere where he needs to be. Even if it means being two places at once.

Hobie doesn't believe in logic.

Ansi sleeps in his bed nearly every night. When Mariah is there she'll take the couch or floor and they'll have a sleep over but Ansi is there way more and it's not unusual to hear Ansi in the background when Diane calls Hobie on the UniPhone (phone Hobie made her so they can talk across universes) or Ansi being the one to pick up the phone.

When Mariah and Ansi have bad flares the same day they lay around the boathouse and Hobie becomes the residential maid for the day.

It usually ends up with them watching The Princess Bride, the First Star Wars, or Halloween (the last two being Mariahs comfort movies)

Diane goes to Hobie's shows and vice versa - but he also hours to Josephine's show every Friday, and picks her up after practice when he can.

When Asa's kids run up to Diane asking for their mommy Diane knows that means they need Hobie

Wade Ansi and Diane be sitting on Hobies bedroom floor gushing about him and how cool he is then Hobie comes back in the room with the pizza like 'what are y'all talking about'

And they're like 'not u. loser...as if' because they all love him to death but they all think he's a dork

Diane standing next to Maitreyi at the food court and catches her looking at Hobie and she loudly goes "You have a crush on Hobie???!!! Me too 😄 You should join our Hobie fanclub!! For people who have LOVE him and crushes on Hobie-"

And Maitreyi is probably like "sis keep it down before he hears you PLEASE 😭"

His place is DROWNING in their stuff. Jo's ballet gear and pointe shoes on his dresser, Diane's makeup COVERS his bathroom counter. Maitreyi goes all out for Diwali on the boathouse.

They all hang out together and it's a SWELL ASS TIME.

Diane and Jo are both performers so sometimes they use the training rooms as dance practice rooms and run into each other.

The gang will be in a random disagreement about something like whether you put ketchup in the fridge or not and they'll call Asa to be the tiebreaker

Maitreyi may not be the most friendly but neither is Hobies MJ Mariah, so Mariah tries to be friends by sitting in silence with her. Chilling.

Mariah and Wade are both talkative as HELL so the two of them will talk up a storm and Hobie can hardly get a word in

All the SpiderBeaus eat lunch together with him and once a week they all have dinner on the houseboat with Wade and Mariah

There are no shipping wars we have ascended. All of this at once in my head
