Rushing /right/ into things since I am ever-so slightly approaching the midnight of 5/24/2024 (im so sorry) here's the new/fixed tools and fixed copper color :)

Now that I've caught your eye, time to quickly go over the huge technical stuff that doesn't have any fancy images to show *yet*: 1. It now is supported on Linux! (Windows and Apple too obviously) 2. Controller support! Play using whatever controller you'd like, or a standard mouse and keyboard. 3. There's now a saving state when quitting the game to ensure no file corruption when quitting to main screen

4. WE'VE STARTED THE SURVIVAL MODE AND WEIGHT-BASED INVENTORY SYSTEM LETS GOOOOOOO

Here's the WIP design of the HUD, followed by the concept draft for the inventory system:

Basically, as items are added to your backpack/player/whatever, they add to the total weight vs possible storage weight. similar to games like Fallout or Skyrim, but with the visual grid layout of inventories like Stardew Valley or Minecraft or Terraria. obviously as that list grows, itll expand the size of the GUI but if its *too* large itll have a scroll bar. no more worrying about having 347353 different flower types or random knick knacks. so long as you have the STR stat for it you're good to go!

Magazines/books are in the work now too! You can find and read tidbits of these across the world, ranging from top secret training manuals which give you permanent stat bonuses to learning how to make coffee or bits of lore and new customization options, they've got it all!

We are working on the details to have a musician now to work on our soundtrack with us.

All in all, a fantastic 2 weeks of progress that wouldn't have been possible without @andeditor7, like seriously this dude is a genius and I will hype my friend's technowizardry forever. P.s. we are thinking of changing the title to ReGrowAll instead of ReGrowal, let us know what you think. all in all im tired and missed the deadline by 16 minutes (sorry!!!) and im gonna pass out for the night. Linux Life Episode 83

Well, here we are again ladies and gentlemen back at the blog stuff regarding my ongoing Linux experience.

Well since we last spoke I am afraid I had to retire my Dell Inspiron M6800 (Mangelwurzel) as the sound card finally decided to give up. So that meant the touchpad, the sound card and the top pair of memory sockets had stopped working so it had to go.

I have recovered the two 480GB SSDs that it had so I can reuse them in another project should the time come for it. However when one machine exits stage right to the farm. Luck would have it I managed to get a new laptop.

The machine admittedly is another Dell laptop but this one is new. The machine in question is a Dell Inspiron 3525. It's a 15.6” laptop with a Ryzen 7 5200U with 16GB RAM, an Integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics card, and a 1TB NVME drive.

Sure enough for the first 2 hours of its new existence, it did have a copy of Windows 11 Home (stop spitting at the back there). However, after a bit of learning how to get around the BIOS, I managed to install Endeavour OS Galileo (the latest version).

As I had an AMD graphics card (even if it’s integrated) I decided to run KDE Plasma (in the past I have ran MATE but I thought I would change it up).

Now for the first few days, I was running just the basic setup but when I installed Steam only a few games would start. Terraria, Stardew Valley, and Starbound worked fine as they, I believe use Open GL. However, when I tried to run a game using Proton there was no dice as Vulkan was not listed.

I had to install the version of MESA with Vulkan from the extras and then I could get Untitled Goose Game to run including picking up my XBOX 360-style gamepad. However Path of Exile and Pacman Championship Edition 2 both threw errors running Linux native versions.

However, I then turned on Proton usage, and using the Windows versions both games worked without error. Strange but I am not going to argue they work and I am not going to question beyond that.

For some reason they work if it’s through DXVK but not through the actual Linux Vulkan driver go figure that. Considering I can now play them both fine I am not going to fight it.

Parkitect 1.9a works fine through Wine as it’s a GOG game version I am using.

I admit while I am not a huge game player it’s nice to see them in action.

I have also installed and tested various emulators the list includes Fuse (ZX Spectrum), VICE (c64), Caprice32 (Amstrad CPC), Atari800 (Atari 8 bit), and DOSBox-X (MSDOS). I will probably test a few more in time but all successful so far.

I even did my usual build of GDASH and it works fine. So I can play various incarnations of Boulder Dash should I ever feel so.

Set up OBS Studio, KDEnlive, VLC, Audacity, and more so it can be used to create videos or podcasts should the decision take me.

Also, Cairo-Dock is my choice of on-screen dock as it has been for many years. It’s pretty reliable and I can set it up pretty quickly now.

I have also installed some productivity apps in the form of LibreOffice, RedNotebook, Obsidian, and Focuswriter. I also installed InMyDiary via Wine as the Windows version is the most up-to-date one (I like Lotus Organiser and it looks/works the same).

So it has been running for over a week and I admit I am impressed with its capabilities.

However, it does seem the world of Linux is looking to dump X11 in favour of the Wayland compositor. Now on Mangelwurzel, I could not use Wayland as Nouveau could not run it.

But this new Dell (currently named Parsnip but could be subject to change) has a better graphics card and I have installed the version of KDE Plasma Wayland also.

So I can log out of X11 and switch to Wayland if necessary. It works and I admit speed-wise, it's slightly faster at program opening than X11, but Cairo Dock doesn’t support Wayland just yet.

However, I did manage to get a dock in the form of Latte Dock and it does work fine.

However Steam doesn’t like Wayland it works but man is slow and problematic so at this time I still have the system boot into X11 and change up to Wayland should I need it.

So where do I go with this new Dell laptop so far it has performed more than adequately. Also, EndeavourOS once again proves to be my preferred Linux flavour and I won’t be going back to a stable (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu) environment anytime soon unless forced.

Well, that’s a wrap for the moment… In turn, I will probably install MAME and maybe play with QEMU but that’s for the next episode should I get around to it.

The popular farming RPG Stardew Valley has posted an update detailing whats to come in the games 1.1 patch according to Next Save Point. Foraging for spring onions is a great way to earn money, especially once you’ve got Spring Onion Mastery. Stardew Valley Hints At Content For 1.1 Patch. Note: This was last confirmed to work during version 1.3.32. For those who don’t know, the Galaxy Sword is an awesome weapon with +4 speed and 60 to 80 damage. It may still work on an older version of the game. Note: This seems to have been patched out. This cheat works best when you use multiple Crystalariums. Some of the best cheats let you completely break the boundaries of games, and there’s one in Stardew Valley just for that. Note: This was last confirmed to be working in version 1.4.5. This cheat lets you have infinite energy, so you can get a ton done without having to worry about exhaustion. Fishing’s a pretty time consuming activity, and it’s a long slog to level 10. When the clock hits 2 a.m., your character will pass out wherever they are.

There are also keybinds and commands specific to some menus so do check out the lists for both in Mod Details page. There’s also a feature which Radar which plays a sound at objects nearby, since stardew valley does not support stereo sound, it is not that helpful in locating objects but this combined with a Path Finding feature in the future will make locating of objects like forages easier. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. A feature called Read Tile which tells us the name of the object on the tile, if the object is crop then it will also tell us if the crop is harvestable. E vamos lá para as intruções diferentes para diferentes plataformas!

Windows:

Crie uma pasta separada para cada grupo de mods, por exemplo Mods (a padrão) e Mods (multiplayer)

Crie um atalho para o StardewModdingAPI.exe dentro da pasta do Stardew

Clique com o botão direito, escolha propriedades e adicione isso no final do campo destino: --mods-path "Mods (multiplayer)" (mude o nome da pasta para ser igualzinho ao que tu colocou). Não apague nadinha desse texto e nem o texto anterior no campo destino! Tu deve adicionar aquela partezinha no final do que tem no caminho.

Tu pode renomear o atalho que fez do SMAPI para identificar que conjunto de mods ele vai usar com aquele atalho, daí é só clicar ali pra abrir e se divertir!

Windows (Steam):

Crie uma pasta separada para cada grupo de mods, por exemplo Mods (a padrão) e Mods (multiplayer)

Crie um atalho do arquivo steam.exe

Clique com o direito no atalho, escolha propriedades e adicione isso ao final do que tem no campo caminho: -applaunch 413150 --mods-path "Mods (multiplayer)" mudando o nome da pasta conforme o nome da sua pasta. Novamente não delete nada do que já tinha ali, só adicione ao final.

Dois cliques no atalho para jogar! Tu pode renomear também pra ficar mais fácil saber que modpacks ele vai ler.

Linux:

Crie um arquivo como SMAPI_multiplayer.sh na sua área de trabalho.

hi! do you have any carl headcanons??

Here are some leftovers from my pros and cons list :) 

He’s really absent minded- he’ll run into corners while walking and trip over things. 90% of the time his head is somewhere else, so MC absolutely has to ground him and remind him to stop scheming about whatever project or conversation he’s thinking about to be in the moment. He has a resting perplexed face, where he walks around looking like he’s confused but that’s because he’s working through something internally. 

 He’s not very politically active, but threats to net neutrality are something that get him calling and writing congress (or parliament? idk). If anyone ever tries to explain to him why it’s a good thing, he’ll absolutely go off with way more knowledge and data than the other person can even comprehend. He fucking hates Bill Gates and supports the open source coding movement. Carl will die before using anything other than Firefox and Linux. 

BIG OLD NERD!!! His taste is not great but he adores Marvel movies and knows all the deep lore. I think he’s also into some more niche stuff- like podcasts (and yes this is purely because I’m into podcasts). But Carl is so good at remembering all the characters and plot threads and foreshadowing. I picture him being a The Magnus Archives and Welcome To Night Vale kind of guy. He tried to play dnd once but was put off by the fantasy elements even though he loved the mechanics of it. MC surprises him by finding a roleplaying game with similar mechanics but in a sci fi setting, like Spelljammer or The Last Parsec. Carl absolutely falls in love with the latter, and MC and his campaign lasts over two years. The only tattoo Carl ever gets is their characters on his ribs. 

Carl doesn’t have a lot of his own friends. He works too much and isn’t great at keeping close contact with long-distance friends. It doesn’t bother him much, but he absolutely relies on MC to introduce him to people and help him see them regularly. Consequently, Carl ends up getting really close to Priya and Chelsea and Lottie, and he tags along to a lot of their late night wine and complain sessions. MC always says he doesn’t have to come, but he genuinely enjoys them.

When Carl gets drunk, he is SO needy. Like he’ll be all over MC hugging her and kissing her and saying “I love you so much, I’m so lucky I have you, do you love me?” He really only drinks with MC at their apartment because he gets overstimulated easily when drunk, but she adores it when he’s a vulnerable soft baby.

Carl knows first hand how much data ‘smart’ objects collect and how easy it is to hack into cloud-enable devices. There are absolutely NO google homes or amazon echos in their home, and he goes into both of their phones and disables the assistant features that enable the phones to listen to you at all times. If you know that meme where ‘tech enthusiasts hook everything up to the cloud including their microwave, tech workers only have an old printer that they keep with a shotgun to kill it if it starts acting out of turn’, that’s Carl. As a joke once, after getting into a debate about automated house locks, Carl hacks into one of his colleagues networks using their Smart Refrigerator, disables their locks, turns off their heating, and steals their data just to prove a point. He gives it back, of course, but point made. MC never really wanted to have automated keys/heating/lights anyways.

I headcanon him as autistic (no surprise coming from the autistic girl who is hyperfixated on a dumb mobile game). Here are his most recent special interests: Star Wars (will always be his hyperfixation but he’s re-reading the novels), brutalist architecture and the history of modern architecture, Boston Mechanics, the history of beanie babies, the 2013 bust of silk road, stardew valley, the Daisy Brown ARG, and cicada 3301. When he was a kid his go to were Cars the movie and dinosaurs. 

Carl is really uncomfortable asking other people for help. It’s not that he’s too prideful, it’s that he hates feeling like a burden and wants to be able to do things all on his own. When his company pressures him to get a secretary, he’s really uncomfortable asking them to do their job and prefers to make his own copies/schedule his own things. This can be a struggle in their personal life, and MC and Carl don’t communicate as well as they should. MC wants to be helpful and loving, but Carl doesn’t know how to ask for help when he needs it. 

He’s got a really low pain tolerance. If he gets a papercut or canker sore he’ll absolutely complain about it going away. When their A/C breaks, Carl books a hotel room for them until it’s fixed because he can’t deal with heat. MC asks him on a hike once and it was harder than they both thought, they didn’t finish it because Carl was exhausted. He’s really whiny when he’s uncomfortable. He loves his one tattoo, but he doesn’t want to get anymore because the pain suuucked (especially color packing on the ribs? oof.)

He really likes minimalism, both the appearance and the clean aesthetic, but he does it in a really wasteful way. His attitude is ‘you should never have more than what you directly need’, but that’s predicated on the ability to waste money/time obtaining new things when he needs them. He never buys food or clothing in bulk, instead buying individual portions and items, which ends up costing more and wasting packaging. 

I said this in my pros and cons, but I don’t think he’s a big laughter person- he more chuckles or exhales. But when you get him going? He’s the giggliest bitch and cannot stop his laughing fits. Some things that MC has figured out really gets him going is making up silly words or mispronouncing them (she texted him about their mutual friend Frank and spelled it ‘Farnk’ and he laughed at it in the middle of a business meeting) or abstract references to things (she told him ‘the green light in Great Gatsby was just Daisy’s vape, it’s not that deep’ and coffee came out of his nose).

 Stardew Valley is self-published and made 100% by ConcernedApe and is completely owned by ConcernedApe LLC. He started his own small team to continue development, and none of them are from or affiliated with Chucklefish. He and his team do all the development and publishing on PC, Mac, and Linux. CA also publishes the console versions, but the actual Xbox, Playstation, and Switch ports are done by Sickhead Games. Chucklefish publishes the Switch and mobile versions, though the mobile version is ported by The Secret Police.

 Stardew Valley is not a Chucklefish game, they have never owned it, and they should not be treated as if they do.

Please continue supporting developers like ConcernedApe and other small teams behind the games we all love. Chucklefish is under fire, but please keep in mind to not harass or demonize Chucklefish employees; very, very few employees have an influence on how the company functions.
