Throughout the day I have seen enough to have lost my faith completely in the quota reform movement. I still believe in the students and I respect those protecting the mandirs and police stations in their neighborhood. But I saw a bunch of policemen being burnt alive and their corpses hung upside down in the police station. Whatever spirit of revenge led to this, nothing, absolutely nothing in this world can ever justify it.

Im not sure if anyone cares, but im back in contavt with my friends after nearly 100 hours of blackout in Bangladesh. Im so happy. I missed them so much. If this shows up on your feed, contact that one friend you have been meaning to talk to, call the people you love and tell them. You never know what might happen. More than anything, i am just glad that everyone is safe.
For context: bangladesh has been in a state of civil unrest for the last week. On july 18th, 9 pm bangladesh time, the govt effectively cut off cell reception and internet and the country was in complete black out until yesterday night when some regions started to regain network. This was the longest communication blackout in the country.
The reason for the civil unrest is simple: students protested against an unfair quota system over civil service jobs. The government responded with state violence which angered the poeple even more so it turned into a quota movement + overall antigovernment movement. There has been confirmed 300+ deaths and educated guesses estimate more than 1000 people died.

Marx "Polis kim? Asker kim?
Walter Benjamin II.

Students in Poland had 3 encampment protests in 2024. In capital, the protest lasted 21 days before the university called the police on the students. 32 people were charged with "messing the public peace" allegations. Protest in Cracow lasted 145 days. Students got an agreement with the university about building a structure of help for Palestinian students and professors. The last encampment ended in December after 194 days. Students made an agreement where the university stated that they would provide scholarships for Palestinians.
The main reason students in Poland are protesting is to show solidarity and fight to cut ties with Israeli universities. And so the universities make public statements about the genocide.
To see what is happening in Poland follow pro-palestinian student movement: academia for Palestine

SOCRATES’ UNWISDOM
Since our student movement led by post-pubescent lads and lassies, confident they know statecraft and everything else that I couldn’t even imagine at that age, I asked about Socrates:
“According to the account in Plato’s Apology, the Oracle at Delphi proclaimed that no one was wiser than Socrates. This puzzled Socrates, as he believed he possessed no special wisdom. Seeking to understand the oracle’s statement, he embarked on a quest to question those reputed to be wise—politicians, poets, and craftsmen.
Through this process, Socrates discovered that many who claimed to be wise were not; they thought they knew things they did not. In contrast, Socrates recognized the limits of his own knowledge. He concluded that his wisdom lay in this self-awareness: he knew that he did not know.
Thus, the god’s statement could be understood as highlighting the paradoxical wisdom of humility and intellectual honesty, which Socrates exemplified. By acknowledging his ignorance, Socrates was wiser than those who falsely believed themselves knowledgeable.”
