cas is doing courtly love nonsense because that’s the framework for romantic/erotic love thats most compatible with his ideas of how angels are supposed to be. meanwhile dean is like hey lancelot can you cool it with the noble knight shtick for 10 minutes and just answer your damn texts?
#I’m dead serious tho courtly love is a very useful framework for understanding Cas’s ‘happiness isn’t in the having’ thing#and he hits the big points of it: transformative power of love. love as forever unconsummated. the ennobling power of love. etc#disclaimer that I am very much not a medievalist or expert in any way#genderstudiesnatural#<- not precisely but I want it in the tag bc I think arthurian chivalric conceptions of masculinity#are interesting to consider in relation to cas#cas studies#destiel studies#destiel#cas#dean#drift.txt#supernatural#spn#castiel

“If I could, I would erase from my mind every one of the results that our research team uncovered. It’s just…I…I just don’t have it in me to say what we concluded. For your sake, I think we’ll keep that to ourselves. Excuse me.” A teary-eyed Hart then reportedly walked off stage, called his wife and daughter, and told them he loved them very, very much.

@muffinlance I see your Zuko gets adopted by old sweepy and propose to you Zuko gets adopted by a random scholar at the Ba Sing Se University.
Look in Yuka's defense she has a lot of siblings, and Zuko at a quick glance could pass as her youngest brother. Yes, he should be at home still nowhere near Ba Sing Se, but her siblings end up in the strangest of places so she wouldn't put it past him to show up randomly. Doesn't help she already wears thick lens glasses, and her eyesight is just getting worse from all the reading in the dark she does. Also, she was deep in her research for the paper, and the kid she mistook as her brother was really useful at finding her just what she needed for her paper. He was also apparently an expert on Avatar research, able to spout off all kinds of facts and quotes where he got that research from. By the time she realizes this kid isn't her little brother, she's decided to adopt him anyway, and she will absolutely fight the Di Lee for him. He is her new research partner, and she'll list him as one of her sources if she has to. Then they can't take him as he is an integral part of the development of the culture of Ba Sing Se. Besides, the kid sucks at hiding the fact that he is a fire bender and needs someone to take him under their wing. Half her family are firebenders anyway. She may be small and mousy, but she can be mighty when it comes to her research. She is totally willing to throw hands with the Di Lee if it comes down to it.
Zuko isn't sure what to make of the small mousy scholar he accidentally stumbled upon while trying to find more research on the Avatar. Nor is he sure how he became her research assistant. All he knows is she started calling him Koji and talking to him like she knew him or rather knew this Koji and handing him scrolls to put away and requesting more works on the Avatar some he hadn't read before as Ba Sing Se was the one place he hadn't been able to break into until now. Then he starts spouting off his Avatar knowledge between what he knows of the current Avatar and what he read in old books and scrolls she just jots down what he said without ever once looking up at him. By the time she realizes he isn't this Koji person, she has apparently decided she is keeping him. She escorts him home or to the tea shop when she is done picking his brain for the day or treats him to good food and makes sure he gets enough to not only fill his belly but also to bring home to Uncle. When he gets fired from the tea shop for fighting Jet, she hires him permanently. She even argues that Jet is clearly delusional and needs help not to be carted off by the Culural Police. He is clearly scared so badly he can't see he is safe and that there is no war in Ba Sing Se. So Jet gets an involuntary stay in one of Ba Sing Se's finest mental hospitals with his own personal Joo Dee to look after him. It's around this time that Uncle realizes he may have to fight this young lady for custody of his nephew. At least he is staying out of trouble and expanding his intellectual knowledge.
#Zuko is a Avatar Expert#Zuko is integral to the culture if Ba Sing Se according to Yuka#Yuka refuses to give up her new assistant#Yuka may be shy but she will absolutely throw hands with the Di Lee if they try to take Zuko#Uncle is beginning to realize that Zuko’s new job may not be a good thing if it means he has to fight for custody#Its all fun and games until Yuka's actual younger siblings arrive for a visit and become fast friends with Zuko#Ba Sing Se may not survive the chaos they make#At least they free Appa in all the destruction they leave in their wake#they almost keep Appa but Yuka makes them return him after she studies him quickly#atla zuko#atla#Zuko gets adopted#avatar: tla#avatar the last airbender

hi there! im a fan of your page 💕
can you give me the best studying techniques?
hi angel!! @mythicalmarion tysm for asking about study techniques 🤍 i'm so excited to share my secret methods that helped me maintain perfect grades while still having a dreamy lifestyle + time for self-care!! and thank you for being a fan of my blog, it means everything to me. <3
~ ♡ my non-basic study secrets that actually work ♡ ~

(don't mind the number formatting)
the neural bridging technique this is literally my favorite discovery!! instead of traditional note-taking, i create what i call "neural bridges" between different subjects. for example, when studying both literature + history, i connect historical events with the literature written during that time. i use a special notebook divided into sections where each page has two columns - one for each subject. the connections help you understand both subjects deeper + create stronger memory patterns!!
here's how i do it:
example:
left column: historical event
right column: literary connection
middle: draw connecting lines + add small insights
bottom: write how they influenced each other
the shadow expert method this changed everything for me!! i pretend i'm going to be interviewed as an expert on the topic i'm studying. i create potential interview questions + prepare detailed answers. but here's the twist - i record myself answering these questions in three different ways:
basic explanation (like i'm talking to a friend)
detailed analysis (like i'm teaching a class)
complex discussion (like i'm at a conference)
this forces you to understand the topic from multiple angles + helps you explain concepts in different ways!!
the reverse engineering study system instead of starting with the basics, i begin with the most complex example i can find and work backwards to understand the fundamentals. for example, in calculus, i start with a complicated equation + break it down into smaller parts until i reach the basic concepts.
my process looks like:
find the hardest example in the textbook
list every concept needed to understand it
create a concept map working backwards
study each component separately
rebuild the complex example step by step
the sensory anchoring technique this is seriously game-changing!! i associate different types of information with specific sensory experiences:
theoretical concepts - study while standing
factual information - sitting at my desk
problem-solving - walking slowly
memorization - gentle swaying
review - lying down
your body literally creates muscle memory associated with different types of learning!!
the metacognition mapping strategy i created this method where i track my understanding using what i call "clarity scores":
level 1: can recognize it
level 2: can explain it simply
level 3: can teach it
level 4: can apply it to new situations
level 5: can connect it to other topics
i keep a spreadsheet tracking my clarity levels for each topic + focus my study time on moving everything to level 5!!
the information architecture method instead of linear notes, i create what i call "knowledge buildings":
foundation: basic principles
first floor: key concepts
second floor: applications
top floor: advanced ideas
roof: real-world connections
each "floor" must be solid before moving up + i review from top to bottom weekly!!
the cognitive stamina training this is my absolute secret weapon!! i use a special interval system based on brain wave patterns:
32 minutes of focused study
8 minutes of active recall
16 minutes of teaching the material to my plushies
4 minutes of complete rest
the specific timing helps maintain peak mental performance + prevents study fatigue!!
the synthesis spiral evolution this method literally transformed how i retain information:
create main concept spirals
add branch spirals for subtopics
connect related concepts with colored lines
review by tracing the spiral paths
add new connections each study session
your notes evolve into a beautiful web of knowledge that grows with your understanding!!
these methods might seem different from typical study advice, but they're based on how our brains actually process + store information!! i developed these through lots of research + personal experimentation, and they've helped me maintain perfect grades while still having time for self-care, hobbies + fun!!
sending you the biggest hug + all my good study vibes!! remember that effective studying is about working with your brain, not against it <3
p.s. if you try any of these methods, please let me know how they work for you!! i love hearing about your study journeys!!
xoxo, mindy 🤍

“this was always going to happen. she’s been dead since the beginning,” from robert icke’s oresteia, has specific resonance within the context of greek tragedy that modern forms of storytelling do not necessarily retain. like i don’t know if this is always applicable….iphigenia is dead since the beginning even when she survives, because iphigenia is the vessel that carries out the function of lost daughter in the greater machine of the oresteia. inevitability is crucial to the structure of greek tragedy, and iphigenia’s family is contaminated by a violent miasma. in order for the cycle of violence that defines the oresteia to begin, iphigenia has to play the role of already dead. modern characters tend to be more stylistically fleshed out than figures in greek tragedy, and modern stories don’t operate under quite the same level of assumed inevitability, unless this is an artistic statement being made deliberately. the decision to kill off a character in a work of fiction can be made for any number of reasons, but any given dead woman du jour may not have been dead since the beginning, iphigenia-style. she may have just been fridged.
#it speaks!#ive already gone into this under a mutual’s post (hi iki!!)#i’m not an expert in greek tragedy; i don’t study it i just like it. but i do feel confident in saying that inevitability is structurally ->#<- built into the stories in a way we don’t necessarily see with say superhero comics or shonen anime or network television for example#house of atreus#the oresteia

(Extreme on-brand post incoming) Some translation discourse about Chainsaw Man's latest chapter right now - in English this scene is translated as "slut":
But in the original it is 痴女/Chijo:
Literally "dumb woman" but almost always today used to mean "female molester". So people are complaining that, particularly given that Asa was the initiator of the current sexual encounter in question, that this is an incorrect translation - her anger is more over being a violator than shame over her sex drive or whatever.
I don't think they are right about that - "slut" is the best translation of 痴女. It doesn't not mean 'molester', it is used for someone who actually does that, but that is comparatively rare - its primarily used more metaphorically for a "sexually aggressive woman". Here is a typical dictionary entry for the word, which includes this line:
色情におぼれ迷う女
"to lose oneself in lust". Because the idea of this molester is that it isn't some calculating predator or anything, it is that she is overcome by her emotions, unable to reign herself in, and thus crosses boundaries. Hence the word origin - "dumb woman", right? Sounds like a slut to me, pretty similar to how we use that term - even if it has no connotations of sexual assault in English.
Also this is just the culturally accepted translation of the word, I think that counts for something.
But I want to go deeper - after all, there are other words in Japanese that mean "slut", like パンコ/Panko - yes like-but-not-exactly the breadcrumbs let's not get distracted okay? So why use 痴女? Here, I am going to note that this is a manga, it's part of a specific culture. Maybe you've noticed that in eroge male media - even tame ones like harem shows - compared to western porn the men are pretty passive? They don't make a lot of stories of chads pulling chicks, it is nerds having alien space hotties throw themselves at him.
This definitely comes from wider Japanese culture, don't get me wrong (and I lack expertise there, lets not oversell myself), but it is definitely the case than in animanga a male passivity streak is just sort of embedded as the default. And you can see that in the use of 痴女 in the medium.
So let's run an experiment! Let's go to e-hentai, and find the first relevant result with that word in the title. Here we go:
カースト上位のあの子は実は淫乱ドスケベ痴女
"The girl in the top caste is actually a lewd, perverted chijo"
And yeah, its about a hot, popular teen girl being paid to fuck some guys who propositioned her. The fourth page literally includes a guy saying "I am so excited, this rules". He isn't being consent violated in the slightest, the fantasy that makes her a chijo is how eager and lustful she is.
Audiences read all this stuff and cross reference each other, like language does. Its a pretty common term in the space. None of the cultural focus is on the violation aspect, all of the cultural focus is on the desire, and it has added punch as a sort of shameful secret ("Popular girl is actually..."). It's just slightly confusing because there are undercurrents of default norms in the sexual language that we in English don't have. The default Japanese slut is 20% more aggressive, as it were.
Slut, therefore, is the correct term for a manga translation. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
#chainsaw man#Ash Eroge Studies Adventures#As always when it comes to the japanese I am not an expert so def welcome corrections from the speakers on this one

In fanon, Jason Todd is often characterised as this big literature buff, more so than he ever is really in the comics. But can we talk about the number of literary parallels (intentionally or unintentionally) there are in his character...
(humour me, I'm also a big literature buff)
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen Lovers, in spite of their initial contempt, overcome biases and their own prejudices, disregarding of their differing social backgrounds. This is known to be Jason's favourite novel. Needless to say, Jason coming from abject poverty being adopted by billionaire Bruce Wayne definitely plays into this, and Jason's attitude towards defending Crime Alley and the particularly vulnerable in society.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley A Creature is brought back to life and shunned by his creator, has to learn how to survive in a new world that never planned for its existence and thus turns to violence to seek vengeance on its creator by systemically hurting those in his life - sound familiar? It's an almost piece for piece recollection of Jason's return from death and his feelings and actions towards Bruce, whom he deems to be responsible.
Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky A former student begins to believe that crimes such as murder can be committed for the greater good of society, commits said crimes and is forced to live with the psychological and literal consequences. The idea of 'killing for the greater good' is a hallmark of Jason's, and the crux of his entire character's ethics, especially his relationship with Bruce post-resurrection - not to mention the psychological torment he experiences.
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka The transformation of a man into an insect, and the way this isolates him from the rest of humanity, how his identity is changed and the psychological impact this has on him. This is most akin to Jason's resurrection and the feelings that come as a result - how he becomes something entirely different to who he was before very suddenly, grappling with his place and who he is in a world that didn't plan on having him back.
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens A novel about an orphaned, impoverished child who encounters an Artful Dodger and ultimately joins a criminal outfit who try and recruit him into their agenda, although he ultimately disagrees and flees. Although this isn't beat for beat Jason's story (as he ultimately ends up as the more criminal of the bunch), there are definitely parallels between Jason's experience with being taken into the role of Robin but disagreeing with Bruce's ethos as he evolves.
Cain & Abel (not a novel, I am aware) Two brothers make sacrifices to God to show their gratitude. Cain, the elder, is snubbed where Abel, the younger, is accepted. Cain goes on to kill Abel out of jealousy and become the first murderer. I know this isn't necessarily literary, but the parallels between Jason's attack of Tim when he returns to Gotham as Redhood are significant. Jason feels enraged at Bruce's replacement of him after he, ultimately, gave his life for the cause - his attack on Tim is one of jealousy and rage.

The Nobleman or 양반 (yangban): The smiling face represents the bluff and composure that an aristocrat is often known to have. The chin is a separate piece from the top of the mask, and the actors can lean forward and back to make the mask smile or frown as needed.
This monk who abandons his doctrines, or 취발이 (chwibari): Chwibari was originally a monk, but he had no intention of joining the monastic order, so he came down to the world and wanders. Represented with a forehead full of wrinkles and spots.
The widow or, 부네 (Punae/bune): represented to be a widow, or a kisaeng ( a woman who sang, danced, or played an instrument to provide entertainment for company at a drinking party), or a mistress of the Yangban. She has a very small mouth, round cheeks and forehead- giving a general look of happiness good-humor.
#skz#stray kids#skzedit#bystay#obligatory i am no expert take it with a grain of salt blah blah#theres no changbin bc you cant see the mask clearly and no hyunjin because as best I can figure his mask is a General/high ranking official#but most of those are modern productions and dont have any real descriptions or anything.#these plays were made to mock the upper classes so the nobleman is p much always treated like a fool or bastard lol#also these all change depending on the location- so like the chwibari is usually a negative portrayal of a monk who drinks and parties#and isnt very... monk-ly lets say- but then theres a story where he saves his lover from a lecherous monk and they get married so 🤷♀️#he wasnt a monk that iteration though or he abandoned his studies ?#and then the widow/concubine varies from sympathetic young widow to a kinda femme fatale who seduces the nobleman/scholars#Will any of this play into the concept? probably not. they dont really commit to concepts lbr#but still! it was interesting to look into and the masks are pretty to boot so this was fun :)#it'd be cool if they did a mask dance. i always loved thunderous for the traditional elements so i hope that happens#also YEAH a korean seungmin girl saying she was sad the foreign fans wouldnt get the significance bc she wants to see 'secondary art'#did inspire this (of course i'd wanna know why he was the only one given a womans mask dont act surprised)#bc im pretty sure i know what she means by secondary art and LMAO#i see right through you.... and into myself maybe#long post

Never getting over Fulcrum being a project manager...
Idk why, but something about that is so funny to me. Not just because the title of "project manager" is inherently kinda funny for a Decepticon, but also because-
1. It's vague sounding and hard to explain irl because it technically exists in multiple fields, like healthcare or manufacturing, which surely translates into canon in some way.
2. In canon, it's simultaneously a really mundane, innocuous sounding job, yet it's also a super morally awful position to reside over depending on the context. (*cough* forced colonization and cyberforming *cough*)
And 3. It solidifies the fact that behind all the surface level militaristic work we get with both the Decepticons and Autobots, there's also Cons and Bots with "normal" jobs in both factions.
Like, sure yeah we get scientists and doctors, engineers and programmers, but usually in big important or warfront positions. (For plot reasons, understandably.) But it's also really funny and interesting to think of those that worked background positions, or minor jobs.
Like an Autobot working in their equivalent of an HR department, or a Decepticon who runs one of their outpost's or starship's kitchens.
Just all the pre-war jobs that didn't just disappear with the war, but instead evolved to exist within the factions.
It's particularly funny with the Decepticons though, because it could be a super mundane job or situation, but because it's them, it has to have an air of ~e v i l~ to it, either legitimately and/or merely for the vibes, like Tarn's "performance reviews".
#theres this one comedy thing. a think its from that like. puppet comedian dude??? cant remember the name rn-#-buts theres a bit about a person in the crowd being a project manager and how silly the job sounds#at some point the person the project manager is with gets pointed out when the comedian asks smth along the lines of-#-''is he a project you're managing? he looks pretty managed to me.'' smth smth. thats fulcrum and the scavs to me#idw fulcrum#fulcrum#mtmte#tf idw#idw tarn#tarn#transformers#maccadam#Decepticons being cartoonishly evil while doing mundane shit will never not be funny to me#'i need to send an evil email to my evil boss about an evil supply chain issue involving my evil workers evil rations and evil mail'#<- fulcrum#sorry. yes he is a tragic yet simultaneously silly guy. but i will never not shut up about his stupid awful job#''he's a project manager!'' oh yay :D! ''he's overseeing the destruction and forced cyberformation of a whole planet'' ...what#not saying he deserved being turned into a bomb. but i think a solid uhh maybe 1000+ organics get a free chance to spit on him or smth#get his ass lmao. i swear hes one of my favs. its just he is objectively an asshole. and i must speak on it bcs i love him#sort of unrelated. but along the same vein of jobs and positions in the Decepticons. ive been trying to puzzle out Krok and Fulcrum's ranks#and. it might not be accurate. idk what sort of ranking system bullshit is going on in canon. so im going off what i know#but. im figuring krok was some sort of warrant-esque officer? aka. he was a general solider. who worked his way up through skill to NCO-#-then specialized in strategy to the point of becoming a warrant officer for strategy and studies. so. higher than NCO but lower than CO#so on the other hand. fulcrum is a CO. bcs he wasnt a solider. he was a technician. but also in advanced management. so. CO???#for irl comparison. NCO/Warrant = worked towards over time from low ranks. CO = fast tracked bcs of formal education or smth#(take the irl comparison with a grain of salt. im not an expert on that shit. i just considered becoming a CO bcs of pressure once)#((CO in this context stands for commissioned officer. not commanding officer btw. so. its like management shit))#(not that i think cons have commissions or anything. just using the terminology as a place holder or smth ig)#who outranks who is debatable bcs canon doesn't specify rank. but if going off this as a basis. fulc would outrank krok by a technicality#but. assumedly. battle experience is seen as more impressive and noteworthy to cons. so its more likely krok outranked fulc bcs of that

“Personally, I never pray after 8 p.m. The brilliant light of God shining down upon you can confuse your body into thinking it’s time to make a pilgrimage in service of the Almighty when it should be winding down for rest. Ideally, you should keep any Bibles or crucifixes out of your bedroom entirely so your mind only associates that space with sleep and sex and not the everlasting salvation of eternal life through Christ.” Hardy added that people struggling to avoid God’s light close to bedtime could purchase special glasses designed to block it by selling their soul to the devil.

Which LIS game (and Bloom and Rage/tell me why) because DontNod had your personal fav art style of them all? I think LIS2 is my fav because it’s still kind of cartoony? (Idk the right term but not as like realism) but it’s better detailed than LIS.
I love how LiS's art style worked with the limitations of the PS3's tech and DN's budget. The hand-painted textures and framerate still holds up today, and I adore the drawn in-game "photos" and the 2D animated wind, fire, and water effects that carried over into LiS2, they're so cute and charming.
But I really have to hand it to DN for how incredible Bloom & Rage looks. There are still little glitches like hands clipping through each other, skipped over animations, and object physics not quite working, but it seriously blows my mind how much better B&R looks in every way compared to LiS and TMW. The characters have detailed skin textures, cloth textures, and more details in their hair without looking uncanny. Some objects can look lower-fidelity compared to the characters, but the wide shots of scenery are just so gorgeous. Compared to games like The Last of Us or Death Stranding, I love that Dontnod strives to be unreal in their graphics, not hyperreal. Most AAA games kind of all look the same after awhile with the same gloomy lighting and attempts to be as realistic as possible, but you can recognize a Dontnod project because every game has an actual art direction that focuses on artistic concepts: colors, value, contrast, composition, cinematography, and more.
Bloom & Rage has such unique color palettes: in the past, the purple/green contrast in the playground sets this eerie, intriguing, liminal mood as the girls are getting to know each other late at night. Are purple skies and green lights realistic? Hell no, but it's a really fucking cool vibe. Then in Nora's garage when they're watching Swann's music video, the blues and reds evoke the neon lighting of a retro movie theater, something exciting and different from the everyday. All of the past segments have beautifully saturated summer colors to dial up the nostalgia factor, while the present segments are all washed out and in cool tones for winter. Dontnod's only commitment to realism was giving the characters realistic facial imperfections (acne, freckles, etc), diverse body types, and such expressive eyes. All of the closeups in this game are so beautiful to look at and also give the game a greater sense of intimacy.
Now I really wish we could've seen what a LiS game could look like in 2025 with DN's current art direction and tech. Deck Nine's games look fine enough, and they've always had the more expressive facial animations and lip sync between the two. But I have to agree with some fans who think the flat lighting and overly smooth textures make the characters look too much like Sims (in True Colors but even more in Double Exposure), whereas DN's softer, more reactive lighting engine is more visually interesting and pleasing to the eye.
Thanks for asking!

Learning about POTS, especially @mamoru's blogging about it and the dysautonomia health conference, has made me suspect... it's the sneaky bastard behind my chronic illness. Or, the start point!
POTS can just kinda happen to you. It did to me, though it was diagnosed a while after more notable things happened to my body. But. Around when my chronic illness kicked off, early 2020, a few other things happened which seemed unrelated:
-a random full body allergic rash, which turned into just a dry rash on my right hand and now reoccurs each spring — a sudden new hay fever allergy (I'd never had any allergies before)
-dizziness and blacking out when standing too quick or moving (classic POTS symptom)
-pins and needles when my feet fell asleep went from numb & annoying to Absolute AGONY, the worst pain, prone to happening extremely quickly amd kicking in after I take a few steps
-Lactose intolerance after being a lifelong dairyhead
-my horrible horrible chronic health issues began
....knowing POTS is linked to immune system things makes me consider: i might have developed it, and it may have caused these new allergies and even my chronic illness. I thought of it as just a weird other thing i noticed i might have a year or two post my other health changes.
#chronic illness blogging#i toe a fine line between provacy and wanting to share helpful ideas#but pots: much more than just bad blood pressure makes head dizzy#i need to reread mamorus summaries but i believe they mentioned a case study which similarly was#healthy enough person suddenly gets POTS @#and thats not all!#i havent counted everything wrong with me and i dont list it bc id seem like im bragging#(actually privacy). but i have a lot of mental and physical stuff going on and the physical mostly began all at once 2020#like riiiight before pandemic shutdown lol. it made getting medical care... easier? harder? weird time#youd assume the [chronic illness] would be the start point but as much as it weakens my immune system#i think it may indeed be more likely POTS came first. note. i dont know im not an expert#and knowing this wouldnt change anything bc theyre both chronic
