This poll might look a little familiar.... Due to a timing mix-up yesterday, I am proud to present the 'Best Non-Sword Weapon' poll take 2: Electric Boogaloo!
This time I've chosen to group the options by weapon with wielders in brackets*. Due to space issues, the media that each of them come from is under the read more, and this is definitely a non-exhaustive list!
*Except Xie Lian, who by virtue of winning the previous poll has been brought straight through to part two!
Thank you to everyone from the NiF discord and the watch party discord (and especially @shadaras) who have been amazing at suggesting characters with non-sword weapons! Couldn't have have done it without you! Also thank you to @thebansacredbanned who looked up the names of various obscure characters for me.
Propaganda, examples, and write-ins absolutely welcome!
Fan Wen Kexing (Word of Honour) Shen Qingqiu (SVSSS) Qing Ming (Yin Yang Master)
Umbrella Lord Grim (The King's Avatar) Chu Xuanji (Love and Redemption) Zhan Shiqi (Ancient Detective) Su Muyu (Blood of Youth)

SURVEY: I have about five other wips I haven't posted yet, and can’t decide which to do next.
1-- Another Calamity!Mu Qing AU. Mu Qing dies tragically just after Xianle's fall. He gets to the Kiln before Hua Cheng (yes I'm making it open more often). He and HC work things out, but when it comes to Xie Lian, he works in the shadows. But over the centuries, he develops a habit of annoying a certain southern god. His calamity name is Silver Sun Xuan Zhen. And he torments the sinful via dreams; that's also his "realm." Touching reveal.
I have about 10k words for it so far. No smut.
2-- Now, bear with me (I blame exhaustion sleepy brain for this). Xianle Quartet AU. Mpreg--non-mpreg. Xie Lian doesn't tell the Demon of Mei Niang Bridge to LiveLaughLove, and XL convinces them to let him keep Hong Hong-Er around. It's roughly ten years post his ascension, MQ, FX and HC are his officials and it's real nice. This is all thrown into a tailspin when through god-stuff and canonically being both genders (it is there), XL winds up pregnant. He gets "morning" sickness super duper bad and when he's complaining about it, Mu Qing says, "fine, I'll do it." So then Fem!MQ to be self sacrificial--I mean to save the day.
I'm doing so shit at summaries rn holy shit. 9k words thus far. No smut.
3-- Exhaustion sleepy brain: 2, Me: 0. Omegaverse--WAIT--because it'd be HILARIOUS to see them all in a tizzy because some drunk idiots thought it would be a funny idea and it spread like wildfire. Slight PQ and very jealous FX. FQ fic, as usual. No smut.
Don't ask how this became a thing, just accept it lmao. 2.2k words thus far. No smut. Non-traditional ABO.
4-- Mu Qing and Hua Cheng bro AU. Mu Qing doesn't save Hong Hong-Er from the fall, but he does in a different way and since then, the boy won't leave the stressed, working teen alone.
Very big bro MQ. 2k words thus far.
5-- Another C!MQ. God Rabies. Feng Xin kills Mu Qing. All the angsty feels from FX. He wears a cat mask. FX secretly ghost marries him but not in like a ghost-wedding way. Mostly FX point of veiw so far. Touching reveal.
4.8k words thus far. No smut.
Two Dark!Feng Xin (NOT in a non-con way) ideas. FX can't let MQ's "betrayal" go.
6- FX sabatages MQ’s goodhood to keep a torture fodder. MQ ain’t about to let him have his way. (Incorporates prompts 171. "You don't even know how lucky you are. I protect you and provide for you. Don't act so ungrateful. 170. "Do you think I like hurting you? Because I fucking love it.' 177. "I imagined my life without you and it was better. I was happier" 182. "Stick a knife in my chest, it would hurt less." 80. "i think i might be in some kind of love with you? 34. why are you so cold? 129. "This world doesn't deserve an angel like you.") Sorta leaning Wrath!MQ if not Calamity.
7- FX sees an opportunity to let MQ die during a mission and keep his hands clean and he takes it. He’s a real POS as he lets him die. MQ grows into an esp resentful ghost. FX eventually sees he was very much in the wrong and is terrified when MQ finally confronts him bc he’s an idiot and assumed after a while that MQ moved on. Sorta leaning Wrath!MQ if not Calamity.
No don’t just like this post pls I need guidance

My Journey To You - Thoughts and Impressions Part 1 of 2
Tumblr media
I realise that I've been missing these past few months, i've been on a consumption binge but with little to no bandwidth to write about any show/film irrespective of how much I may have loved them. (depression is an ass) But I can, once again, feel thoughts tingling in my brain and I've decided to get back to writing, something that I deeply enjoy. Anyway, enough about me, let's get started.
To keep the post from getting obscenely long, I'm going to split it into two. This post will be about the technical aspects of the show. Part 2 will focus on the characters.
My Journey To You is a 2023 fantasy, Wuxia show (shows/films that are based in ancient China with martial arts warriors being capable of superhuman feats, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). It was highly anticipated owing to the amazing trailer (one of the best I've seen)
youtube
Plot: The series tells the story of Yun Wei Shan, a spy longing for freedom, who infiltrates the Gong residence to complete a mission. In the eerie and treacherous Gong residence, she encounters love and friendship, embarks on a journey of self-discovery, and finds the determination to move forward. Together with the rebellious nobleman Gong Zi Yu, they grow and mature through their shared experiences. (via mydramalist)
It stars: Yu Shu Xin (Yun Wei Shan), Zhang Ling He(Gong Zi Yu), Ryan Cheng (Gong Shang Jue) and Lu Yu Xiao (Shangguan Qian), Tian Jia Rui (Gong Yuan Zhi), Jolin Jin (Gong Zi Shang) and Sun Chen Jun (Jin Fan)
Written by: Edward Guo.
Series directed by: Edward Guo & Luo Luo
Tumblr media
I'll talk about everything I liked before I get into the stuff that I didn't.
Right off the bat, this show has some of the most gorgeous characters you'll come across and this applies to both the men and the women. The costume and make-up departments do an amazing job making already attractive people look ridiculously attractive. They also help the actors really inhabit the world seamlessly. The costumes are especially incredibly detailed and intricate, you can see the care that went into crafting the look for each of these characters. Shout-out to Huang Wei (costume designer) and Shi Hui (Make-up)
One of the best aspects of the show is the cinematography by Wei Hong. This show is aesthetically beautiful, so many absolutely stunning shots. Chinese shows (and Korean shows) love slow-motion shots, and while at times, it can be a bit much, this show makes great use of them, especially during the fight scenes.
Tumblr media
The cinematography is helped to a great extent by the excellent production design, courtesy Jiyao Zhang. Like the costumes, the production design too is detailed and intricate. The world feels fully realised and yet also lived in. Each of the different clan mansions, the Front Hill and Back Hill are so incredibly different and distinct that you can immediately tell where you are. An insane amount of hard work went into the show and it shows in every frame.
You can tell that they had a good budget to work with and every bit of it was spent on making the show look as stylized as possible, there is not an ounce of realism to be found here, cue slow-motion beautiful hair flying shots. (Every day I bemoan my inability to make gifs) But the screencaps below illustrate the beauty of the show, it's so gorgeous that you could literally use screencaps as wallpapers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fight scenes in the show are some of the best I've seen. They are intense and thrilling and always coherent, you can always tell who's fighting who. The fight scenes are also so aesthetically pleasing, like an exceptionally deadly dance.
Tumblr media
Now, we come to the not-so-great stuff.
First off, the marketing. The show was marketed and advertised as an action fantasy show and while there is action and it is excellent, it's not an "action" show. The main focus of the show is on the characters and the internal power struggle of the Gong family. There are also whole scenes, sometimes making up the bulk of an entire episode which are just conversations. I've seen a lot of viewers disappointed and it makes sense. they thought they were coming for action and instead they got verbose conversations.
The pacing also comes to a near-halt in some of these scenes and instead we're treated to lengthy expositions which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it becomes tedious when it happens repetitively.
Now, let's come to the worst thing about the show, it's ending, specifically the last 5 minutes. This end is ridiculously mindbogglingly bad when you consider that there is almost no confirmation on a 2nd season. It's just such a bad idea to end on a cliffhanger like this. If they wanted to leave things open for a potential 2nd season, they could have ended with the Wufeng elders coming together at that character's home, possibly to hold them ransom or something, like literally anything else.
if you're planning on watching this show and I do recommend it, keep in mind that it does get slow and don't watch the last 5 mins of the show. Trust me, you'll like the show a whole lot more if you follow that approach.

Arte contemporanea cinese alla Biennale di Genova 2023
Tumblr media
Gli artisti sono: Bumubutai, Qiyun Chen, Shixun Chen, Yihan Chen, Yizhu Gong, Jianyong Guo, Boyang Hu, Jiali Mai, Roywang, RuRui, Shang, Chun Sun, Mingjun Sun, Yandi Wang, Yuchen Wang, Xin Xin, Jianwei Yao, Liu Yuan, Guoshuai Zhang, Zuhang Zhang, Hong Zheng. Pauline and Dai Xin’s Gothenburg Wedding Highlight Video
This is a Gothenburg wedding. We came to this small and beautiful city of Sweden from London, England in the summer. We provide our wedding photography, videography and bridal, bridesmaids & relative hair and makeup service for a lovely bride and groom who grew up in Sweden with Hong Kong, Chinese heritage.
This couple contacted us nearly 4 years ago before Covid19 pandemic and they had to postponed their pre-wedding and wedding until 2022 summer time. We have also provided them pre-wedding photography, videography and hair styling & makeup service in Windsor, Richmond Park also Mayfield Lavender Farm.
It was a full day coverage we have provided on their wedding day, which combined both Western culture and Chinese culture. It was challenging because it was very windy by the pier, where they had their outdoor ceremony. We started our day from 5am. Gothenburg is a harbour city. The wedding venue and hotel just located by the pier. It was refreshing.
Feel free to take a look at their pre-wedding photos and love story video on our website:
http://www.foreverlovejourney.com/
https://www.facebook.com/LondonUKEuropeEngagementWedding/
https://vimeo.com/738492106
The hotel is called Quality Hotel 11 & Eriksbergshallen, in Gothenburg, Sweden. After the hair and makeup process finished, we took their shoots during door games, tea ceremony, and group photos with bridesmaids and groomsmen also mothers & fathers of the bride and groom.
Before the civil ceremony, we went to a charming park in Gothenburg city centre, and took more photos and video clips with their bridesmaids and groomsmen. The sun came up at this point, introduced some warmth on their photos.
Their wedding was impressive because of the view overlooking the harbour and Gothenburg bridge. It was meaningful to go back to the place they grew up to have their wedding after they moved to England. Majority of their friends and family are living in Sweden. There were about 200 guests presented in their wedding. The ceremony took place on the pier which belongs to a restaurant, called River Restaurant On The Pier. The couple also gave more tea to elderlies and had a grand banquet there.
When the sun went down, we took a lot of amazing, sweet and romantic couple portraits with video clip. The lighthouse by the pier, the restaurant lightings and those little lamps on the pier helped us to create a nice vintage look for the shoot.
We finished our work with pleasure. It was really enjoyable to look at their photos and videos. Gothenburg is a lovely city. The couple was easy-going and nice, which also made it easier to capture great shots.
We wish them a happy married life ever after. Hope that we will meet them again to take their lovely pregnancy and newborn baby photos in the future.
Feel free to take a look at our Facebook page, Vimeo page and our website to see their more photos.
Thank you
https://www.facebook.com/LondonUKEuropeEngagementWedding/
https://vimeo.com/738492106
River Restaurant On The Pier。

(The tags can not cover every drama. So I have tried my best to pick out some I think would be more well-known among international fans.)

Had a few ideas related to my LMK oc Hou Zhu.
He might have been found and raised by spiders, but surely he had parents, actual monkey parents so...came up with these two, his Mum and Dad Hong Li and Lei Feng.
And because I can’t help but get carried away and not shutting up, i did a fair bit of extra stuff that probably wasn’t neccerasry. you can just ignore the rest of this post if you’d like.
I had even started coming up with a little backstory for these two. before Hou Zhu was born Hong Li and Lei Feng lived on FFM, before Sun Wukong got sealed under a mountain for 500 years by Buddha.  Lei Feng was one of the soldiers set to protect the mountain from hunters and was damn good at it and she did as she very well pleased. Hong Li on the other hand was a good natured and soft spoken monkey who looked after the little ones, pretty much a baby sitter.
Their courtship started when Lei Feng randomly went up to him one day, grabbed him by the fur and pronounced she wanted him and would accept no other. And some time after their courtship, they had their first son who they called Li Xin (he would later be re-named Hou Zhu after being taken in by his spider family) and were perfectly happy. Then Sun Wukong got sealed under a mountain and things went horribly wrong for those living on FFM.
What exactly their fates are from there, i’m not sure yet, might be alive, or died in the attacks on FFM, but whatever it ends up being. The outcome is that their son is taken in by a clan of spider demons and raised with them and becomes the little gold obsessed thief he is today.
I like these two quite a bit, clearly, especially the designs i made for them. though not certain what else to do with them, if i don't just kill them off, so for now this is all i got regarding them.
